<hr /> Change is a-brewin' for <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/products/sitecore">Sitecore</a>.Just over a year ago, the DXP appointed <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/big-shift-at-sitecore-dave-oflanagan-takes-the-helm-as-interim-ceo">Dave O’Flanagan</a> as its new CEO, assuming the role from <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/tzikakis/">Steve Tzikakis</a>, who had held the reins since 2020. During O'Flanagan's tenure, the company achieved some key wins, specifically around the growth of its popular AI-enhanced <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.sitecore.com/products/xm-cloud">XM Cloud offering</a> – a headless, cloud-native SaaS CMS that changed the game for the legacy player as the fastest-growing product in Sitecore’s history.As of this morning, the torch is passing to <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/eric-stine-49540a9/">COO Eric Stine</a>, who has been a visible force behind Sitecore’s recent traction. Effective immediately, Stine will assume the role of CEO, bringing deep experience and proven performance to the top job. The appointment comes at a time of rapid change for Sitecore. While the company has achieved notable growth, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/sonic-boom-sitecore-surges-past-500m-in-arr-heres-why-it-matters">surpassing $500 million in ARR</a> as of last October, it faces the same economic headwinds as its competitors. There’s also the persistent grudge of AI and deriving value from those investments in an increasingly crowded field. But Sitecore has been pushing the innovation envelope, reengineering the company’s core DXP and CMS for an AI era led by the agent revolution. While the company has steadily introduced solutions in AI/ML and GenAI, it released its <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.sitecore.com/resources/insights/artificial-intelligence/introducing-sitecore-stream">Sitecore Stream</a> solution at <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/sitecore-rocks-and-rolls-in-music-city-the-top-5-tracks-from-symposium-2024">last year’s Symposium event</a>, which brings integrated, brand-aware AI across its product ecosystem. With Stine’s experience leading enterprise software companies to grow at scale, he aims to accelerate Sitecore’s expansion to attract and retain even more of the world’s top brands.“I’m honored to lead Sitecore through the next phase of growth and innovation,” he said in the company’s press release. “Having spent a significant amount of time with our clients, our partners, and our talented team of employees, I am confident that we are uniquely positioned to help brands simplify how they reach, engage, and serve their customers.<h3 id="proven-experience-to-drive-the-next-wave-of-growth">Proven experience to drive the next wave of growth</h3>As mentioned, Stine was serving as Sitecore’s Chief Operating Officer and has been instrumental in building momentum across the company’s go-to-market organization. Under his leadership, Sitecore XM Cloud – an AI-enabled SaaS platform for delivering powerful digital experiences at scale – has significantly expanded its customer base, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.sitecore.com/company/newsroom/press-releases/2025/01/sitecore-closes-2024-with-100percents-growth-in-ai-enhanced-cloud-based-content-management-system">growing global revenues by 100% over the last year</a>.Stine’s impact on driving sustained revenue growth and aligning teams around customer success certainly gives the company an edge as it transitions through this period. A big part of his focus has been dedicated to deepening Sitecore’s partner ecosystem and improving customer retention – where it continues to be a trusted DXP to some of the world’s most notable brands, including Equifax, INEOS Automotive, Shure, and Zurich Insurance Group.“We have the most compelling and advanced AI-powered DX platform on the market, unlocking powerful, personalized connections at global scale,” Stine said. “Combine that with an ecosystem able to implement and drive value faster than any other vendor, and we are simply unrivalled.”Stine is no stranger to the C-Suite. Before joining Sitecore, he was Chief Executive Officer of <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.elemica.com/">Elemica</a>, a digital supply chain platform for manufacturers. Prior to that, he served as Chief Commercial Officer at <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.skillsoft.com/">Skillsoft</a>, an employee training platform provider, and Chief Revenue Officer at <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.qualtrics.com/">Qualtrics</a> – an experience management platform. Earlier in his career, Stine spent over a decade at <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.sap.com/index.html">SAP</a>, one of the world’s leading ERP providers, where he led industry go-to-market strategies and built customer-centric commercial operations across North America.<h3 id="the-shift-to-a-cloud-first,-ai-powered-era">The shift to a cloud-first, AI-powered era</h3>During his time as CEO, Dave O’Flanagan made significant strides, leading Sitecore’s transformation as a modern cloud-focused AI-capable DXP. The rollout of Stream arguably gives Stine a faster runway for building more innovative solutions, particularly as agentic AI becomes a mandate for digital experiences. O’Flanagan initially joined Sitecore through the acquisition of Boxever – a customer data platform (CDP) – where he was founder and CEO. <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/sitecore-acquires-boxever-and-four51">The transaction</a>, which closed in 2021, happened simultaneously with Sitecore’s purchase of Four51, a digital commerce platform. At the time, these were viewed as key elements in completing Sitecore’s vision for its DXP.Following the integration of Boxever into Sitecore’s CDP, O’Flanagan became the company’s Chief Product Officer and later rose to CEO. Over the course of his tenure, he moved Sitecore into the Cloud as a feature-rich DXP with AI capabilities. Under his watch, XM Cloud became a key factor in the company’s roadmap, gaining significant adoption – thanks in large part to Stine’s guidance. While O’Flanagan will be moving on from the day-to-day management of the business, he will remain an advisor to the Board.<h3 id="why-it-matters">Why it matters</h3>Change at the top of an organization is always precarious. It can telegraph a wide range of signals to the market while leaving customers wondering about the broader implications. Managing the optics is always tricky. For Sitecore, Stine is exactly the kind of vocal consensus builder who can drive results. He brings the right mix of confidence and charisma to help reinforce the vision and address some of the persistent challenges that exist. This includes assurances to Sitecore’s legacy XP users and committing to support and enrich those tools while focusing on the future of XM Cloud.On that note, the growth of XM Cloud is a clear indicator that the company is moving in a solid direction from a composable perspective. In my recent assessment of the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/gettin-hygge-with-ai-and-more-a-few-cozy-takeaways-from-the-forrester-cms-wave-2025">Forrester Wave Report for CMS</a>, I discussed with <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/critics/mattmcqueeny">Matt McQueeny</a> – a CMS Critic contributor and three-time Sitecore MVP – how XM Cloud is showing up as a contender from a feature and pricing perspective. All positive points in its favor.One of Sitecore’s greatest strengths is its community. Stine is already a visible leadership figure among users and partners, and maintaining strong ties will be key to easing the transition and laying out future innovation. <hr /> In the icy doldrums of winter in the Northern Hemisphere, February might not seem like a haven for holidays. But look a little closer, and you’ll realize it’s jam-packed with reasons to celebrate. Like… Groundhog’s Day. Mardi Gras. Valentine’s Day. National “Ice Cream for Breakfast” Day (for real). Forget those. This is the month when the NFL's <a target="_blank" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_LIX">Super Bowl</a> tackles our attention with its gridiron action, over-the-top commercials, and epic seven-layer dips. Isn't that a holiday?The Big Game might be behind us, but February was also touchdown-worthy for <a target="_blank" href="https://cmscritic.com/products/sitecore">Sitecore</a>. That’s a lot of yards to rush. But this already felt like the status quo for Sitecore even before it kicked off 2025, steamrolling ahead under <a target="_blank" href="https://cmscritic.com/big-shift-at-sitecore-dave-oflanagan-takes-the-helm-as-interim-ceo">CEO Dave O’Flanagan.</a> I recently connected with <a target="_blank" href="https://cmscritic.com/getting-loud-with-xm-cloud-sitecore-reports-100-growth-of-its-ai-powered-cloud-based-cms">Sitecore's Chief Product Officer, Roger Connolly</a>, about the remarkable growth of the company’s <a target="_blank" href="https://www.sitecore.com/products/xm-cloud">XM Cloud platform</a>. Global revenue for the SaaS CMS exploded by 100% in 2024, scaling 130% in the U.S. alone. Originally Introduced at the company's <a target="_blank" href="https://cmscritic.com/sitecore-rocks-and-rolls-in-music-city-the-top-5-tracks-from-symposium-2024">Symposium 2024</a> conference, Sitecore Stream embeds three powerful capabilities across its products, blending control and more progressive <a target="_blank" href="https://aws.amazon.com/what-is/ai-agents/">agentic AI</a> features into the mix. Previously the domain of edge applications, the use of AI agents has become mainstream, and Sitecore has been innovating heavily in its development to help automate a wide range of tasks and functions.The first embedded feature is Sitecore’s powerful brand-aware AI, which keeps AI-driven actions on target and renders them smarter over time – enabling more personalized and conversational experiences at scale.Second, Sitecore’s AI copilots and agents – now available for brand, campaign, content, experience, and optimization – give marketers more freedom to strategize, execute, and scale. Finally, agentic workflows help to “harmonize” human input with AI automation, achieving what Sitecore calls a “balance of automation with authenticity.” Sitecore provides degrees of tolerance with these agentic capabilities; users can select automation levels that include “chain of thought” prompting, “human in the loop”, and fully agentic.Together, these features are delivering new levels of AI performance for Sitecore users. <h3 id="250-business-boosting-innovations-for-marketers">250 business-boosting innovations for marketers</h3>So what’s on the scoreboard in this seasonal release? As stated, the company has released hundreds of new innovations targeted at marketers. They encompass specific tools and capabilities designed for creating, building, and optimizing digital experiences. With these features, users and brands will be better equipped to boost engagement and conversions and drive their business objectives across channels. There are too many to list them all, but here’s the highlight reel: <h4 id="brand-centric-ai-enhancements">Brand-centric AI enhancements</h4>Staying on-brand for large enterprises is challenging – especially with components and objects spread far and wide. Sitecore Stream is bringing order to the brand chaos with some dynamite enhancements, many of which were gleaned from customer feedback. Stream can digest and comprehend schemas in XM Cloud or XP, learn from previous campaigns, and even recommend actions that align with a customer’s brand and marketing strategy.Along with the brand-centric benefits, Stream’s content copilot is along for the ride to back things up. The tool is available in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.sitecore.com/products/experience-platform">Sitecore XP</a>, allowing customers to leverage brand-aware AI. Stream orchestration capabilities are also available in XP, enabling users to manage projects, deliverables, and tasks.  <h4 id="cms-tools-focused-on-marketers-and-content-creators">CMS tools focused on marketers and content creators</h4><a target="_blank" href="https://cmscritic.com/what-is-a-content-management-system-cms">Content management</a> is still the foundation of the experience hub, and Sitecore is doubling down on enriching its CMS capabilities. Like its brand-savvy AI, a content copilot powered by Stream helps creators and editors generate on-brand content and personalized variants to tailor messaging, optimize performance, and maintain relevance across platforms and contexts. From an observability perspective, Site Collections gives marketers a visually intuitive way to view, manage, and maintain multiple sites with ease. Meanwhile, a new marketer dashboard provides a comprehensive view of website performance, workflow, and language version support.On the personalization front, A/B/n testing is now fully integrated into the XM Cloud authoring experience, empowering marketers to create and analyze up to six component variants to determine the most effective version. An A/B test insights feature also gives marketers access to critical performance data – and their winning variants – so they can optimize with confidence.From a composability standpoint, XM Cloud is becoming more flexible and providing greater choice. In addition to <a target="_blank" href="https://nextjs.org/">Next.js</a>, it now supports <a target="_blank" href="https://angular.dev/">Angular</a> and .<a target="_blank" href="https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/apps/aspnet">NET Core frameworks</a>. This means developers can use their preferred technologies while leveraging XM Cloud’s server-side rendering and editing capabilities. <h4 id="game-changing-dam-features">Game-changing DAM features</h4>DAM has been an active category over the last year, with many pure-play stand-alone products investing in AI-powered capabilities. As part of its DXP ecosystem, Sitecore has introduced more generative features to its DAM, helping users create and refine content and grammar with greater speed and efficacy.Search is still a key part of the experience, and an area with AI is having a profound impact. Sitecore’s DAM now includes enhanced visual search, helping users surface content assets even without exact keyword and taxonomy matches. It brings the biggest players in American football to the field, hunting for glory, bragging rights, and a big payday. Sometimes, the battle is epic. This year, it was a blowout.In the DXP leagues, there isn’t a single game that decides the seasonal outcome for a team. Instead, we have analyst grids and reports that attempt to crystallize the state of the market. As such, we have to dig deeper and probe the broader optics before throwing our weight behind a franchise.This year’s Gartner MQ for DXPs revealed some surprising shifts, but Sitecore continues to drive its visionary status with key innovation. This includes its XM Cloud product, visual builder, Stream AI, and enhanced workflow capabilities. It has also made significant strides in developing a more composable posture, enabling more of its components to function in a stand-alone fashion.  <figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:59.62%"><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2025/02/image-1740603215935.jpeg" alt="Gartner MQ diagram for 2025" /></figure> One big advantage has been Sitecore’s investment in governance. At last year’s Sitecore Symposium, the company announced that its core products – XM Cloud, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.sitecore.com/products/content-hub">Content Hub</a>, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.sitecore.com/products/customer-data-platform">CDP</a>, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.sitecore.com/products/personalize">Personalize</a> – were now HIPAA compliant. This gives the company a strategic edge with large enterprises focused on regulatory challenges.While XM Cloud has certainly led Sitecore’s explosive growth over the last year, there are still headwinds relative to adoption. Customers and agencies felt a deep concern that legacy products would not be supported as the company looked ahead. But as I heard from many attendees at Symposium 2024, CEO Dave O’Flanagan’s presence at the company’s MVP and community sessions quelled some of the concern and provided a roadmap of confidence – particularly for marketers who rely on the stability of their tools. “We wanted to make sure that customers don't feel that they have to go to SaaS to deliver for their business,” O’Flanagan said. “That’s an important piece. The SaaS solution has great capabilities, and it will deliver in a more intuitive, innovative way. I think customers can do more with XM Cloud. However, with XM and XP, customers can achieve almost everything they need with that product if properly configured and understood.”There’s also the persistent challenge of navigating Sitecore’s complex ecosystem of products, which continues to grow with each acquisition. This often requires certified practitioners (vis-a-vis Sitecore partner agencies) to help implement and support the tools and customizations. But greater automation is entering the equation, and that’s where Sitecore’s continued investment in new innovations – and a keen focus on leveraging AI – is making an impact. “We've always thought about our DXP’s capabilities as being able to serve the full content life cycle, and that there's only a handful of vendors that truly deliver on that promise,” O’Flanagan shared. “That's everything from the ideation of a campaign right through to the creation of the assets and the content into the CMS to distribute and publish to the consumer.”One of Sitecore’s key strengths is its legacy of innovation, which is reinforced by its vast community of builders. While the company is at a point of transformation with XM Cloud, it seems to be telegraphing the right messages to its customers and the market – and bolstering its Visionary spirit. That said, this change is not without its bumps in the road, and continued engagement with users will be key to shaping the next wave of products. As evidenced by the Gartner MQ, enterprise DXPs face a challenging landscape. However, the pace of these new innovations is yet another demonstration of Sitecore’s resolve to win, underscored by its investment in AI and its grasp of the business considerations. Ultimately, it’s all about understanding what matters to customers. <a target="_blank" href="https://cmscritic.com/critics/mattmcqueeny">Matthew McQueeny</a> is a North American Peer Group Leader for <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/boye-co/posts/?feedView=all">Boye &amp; Company</a>, Head of Relationships at <a target="_blank" href="https://konabos.com/">Konabos,</a> and a CMS Critic contributor. <hr /> Last week, <a target="_blank" href="https://cmscritic.com/products/sitecore">Sitecore</a> unveiled its 2025 class of <a target="_blank" href="https://mvp.sitecore.com/">Most Valuable Professionals</a>, known across the industry as “Sitecore MVPs.” This hallowed tradition, now in its nineteenth year, celebrates individuals who display outstanding engagement and support of the Sitecore community worldwide.The latest cohort includes 241 Sitecore experts, featuring 61 Ambassadors, 34 Strategy members, 145 Technology members, and one Honorary member. Of these, 43 were welcomed as new Sitecore MVPs.Earning my third Sitecore MVP is an honor that carries deep meaning for me. When I joined <a target="_blank" href="https://konabos.com/">Konabos</a> nearly four years ago, Sitecore was already a platform this team was renowned for. Led by several multi-time MVPs, the company had a strong reputation in the digital experience space. My own history with Sitecore had been more distant. I knew it as a powerful <a target="_blank" href="https://cmscritic.com/what-is-a-content-management-system-cms">enterprise CMS (Content Management System)</a> and DXP (Digital Experience Platform), but my previous agency primarily worked with <a target="_blank" href="https://cmscritic.com/products/wordpress">WordPress</a> and <a target="_blank" href="https://cmscritic.com/products/kentico">Kentico</a>. While that agency’s own website was built on Sitecore, there was little exposure to its customer base or the broader Sitecore community. Konabos, however, provided a gateway into an ecosystem I hadn’t fully explored. It’s funny to think back to how it all started—through Konabos co-founder <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/akshaysura/">Akshay Sura</a>, who I worked with at that previous agency many years ago when we originally launched that Sitecore site. It all makes sense now!<h3 id="starting-my-sitecore-mvp-journey">Starting my Sitecore MVP journey</h3>In my first year at Konabos, I gained more hands-on experience with Sitecore as many of our customers were deeply embedded in the platform. I took a shot at earning my first MVP title but quickly realized I hadn’t yet contributed enough to the community to warrant the distinction. The following year, I made a deliberate shift—not just in learning the technology, but in engaging with the Sitecore community at a deeper level. Through <a target="_blank" href="https://konaverse.konabos.com/ ">Konabos’ Konaverse podcast,</a> I interviewed executives, MVPs, and practitioners. I attended Sitecore events that felt as high-level and exclusive as major tech conferences. More importantly, I shared my insights through articles, webinars, social media posts, and podcasts, focusing on Sitecore’s value from a business perspective. That year, I earned my first MVP, and with it came access to an inner circle of thought leaders and innovators. Suddenly, I was having meaningful discussions—both recorded and unrecorded—with Sitecore leaders like CEO <a target="_blank" href="https://cmscritic.com/big-shift-at-sitecore-dave-oflanagan-takes-the-helm-as-interim-ceo">Dave O’Flanagan</a> and Chief Product Officer <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/rogerconnolly/">Roger Connolly</a>, as well as agency leaders like <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/sureshdevanan/">Suresh Devanan</a>, Founder and CEO of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/nish-tech-inc./">Nishtech</a>, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/rolandvillemoes/">Roland Villemoes</a>, CTO of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/alpha-solutions-usa/">Alpha Solutions</a>, who, coincidentally, lives only 30 minutes away from me in New Jersey by way of Denmark.<h3 id="globetrotting-with-the-mvp-crew">Globetrotting with the MVP crew</h3>It's crazy to think that the Sitecore MVP program has been an institution for almost two decades, celebrating the efforts of amazing builders, architects, strategists, and visionaries from around the world. In fact, six MVPs are celebrating their ten-year anniversaries in 2025, including <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/baslijten/">Bas Lijten</a> and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/robhabraken/">Rob Habraken</a> of the Netherlands, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/jasonmwilkerson/">Jason Wilkerson</a> of the USA, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/mohammedsyam/">Mohammed Syam</a> of Jordan, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/rodrigopeplau/">Rodrigo Peplau</a> of Brazil, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/troyouttram/">Troy Outtram</a> of Australia.Becoming an MVP opened doors I hadn’t anticipated. It provided direct access to Sitecore’s roadmap through NDA-level discussions, private Slack channels, and MVP Summits. It also took me across the world—from reporting at <a target="_blank" href="https://community.sitecore.com/community?id=community_event&amp;sys_id=05403a571b74e19038a46421b24bcb37">SUGCON Europe 2023</a> from a rooftop overlooking the stunning Alboran Sea to pub-hopping along the River Thames with my newfound friend – and, of course, another Sitecore MVP—<a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/peter-clisby-sitecore/">Peter Clisby</a>.  <figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:75.94%"><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2025/02/matt-mcqueeny-sitecore-mvp-photo-2.jpg" alt="" /></figure>At SUGCON Europe 2023 on a rooftop in Malaga, Spain. Source: Matthew McQueeny There were so many memorable moments, like experiencing the awe-inspiring Croke Park in Dublin for <a target="_blank" href="https://community.sitecore.com/community?id=community_event&amp;sys_id=25403e571bbf791038a46421b24bcbec">SUGCON Europe 2024</a>, belting out songs at MVP karaoke nights, and collaborating from 4,000 miles away with Rodrigo Peplau on our own rendition of Pride (In The Name of Love) by U2, with me on guitar and bass and him on vocals. And, of course, all those nights along Broadway in Nashville and at Opryland for the impressive <a target="_blank" href="https://cmscritic.com/sitecore-rocks-and-rolls-in-music-city-the-top-5-tracks-from-symposium-2024">Sitecore Symposium 2024.</a> <figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:72.63%"><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2025/02/matt-mcqueeny-sitecore-mvp-photo-3.jpg" alt="" /></figure>At SUGCON Europe 2024 at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland. The MVP badge comes with pride, but it’s the relationships built within this community that are the real reward. Whether it was devouring a Juicy Lucy burger on a food tour organized by Sitecore MVP <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/chesterpotvin/">Chet Potvin</a> during Sitecore’s North American 2023 event in Minneapolis, exploring the massive Mall of America, or working alongside an extraordinary group of Sitecore MVPs at Konabos—who have collectively amassed over 60 MVP awards—I’ve felt deeply embedded in this ecosystem.  <figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:72.52%"><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2025/02/matt-mcqueeny-sitecore-mvp-photo-1.jpg" alt="" /></figure>Sitecore North American event in Minneapolis, USA. Through their leadership and the camaraderie of this group, I’ve gained a global perspective on enterprise technology.Of course, none of this would be possible without the man behind the Sitecore MVP curtain, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/vargat/">Tamas Varga</a>. He is a “lifer” who truly devotes himself to leading and advocating for this MVP community from within Sitecore. This program would not be what it is without him.<h3 id="standing-on-the-shoulders-of-giants">Standing on the shoulders of giants</h3>Even with three MVP titles to my name, I still sometimes feel like an impostor in a room full of brilliant technical minds. Yet, I remind myself that my value lies in my unique perspective—bringing visibility to the community and Sitecore’s positioning within the composable DXP landscape. As an Ambassador MVP, I use my strengths in storytelling, strategic insight, and relationship-building to highlight the platform’s evolution and foster connections within the industry. This program has given me opportunities beyond what I could have imagined—traveling, collaborating, and learning from some of the most talented professionals in the field. Through it all, one thing remains clear: this isn’t just about technology. <hr /> Big changes are afoot at the very top of <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/products/sitecore">Sitecore</a>. The global leader in end-to-end digital experience management software recently announced that <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/daveof/">Dave O'Flanagan</a> has been appointed as Interim CEO, replacing incumbent <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/tzikakis/">Steve Tzikakis</a> – who held the role for the last three and a half years.Prior to the promotion, O'Flanagan served as Sitecore's Chief Product Officer. According to the company's press release, O'Flanagan's focus on technology and customers will drive a deeper investment in <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.sitecore.com/">Sitecore's Digital Experience Platform (DXP)</a>. This includes advancing its operational capabilities and better enabling its partner ecosystem to help users of its software to effectively differentiate, innovate, and grow. Tzikakis will remain as a special advisor to the Sitecore Board and support O'Flanagan through the transition.<h3 id="a-seasoned-ceo-with-sitecore-lineage">A seasoned CEO with Sitecore lineage</h3>O'Flanagan himself is no stranger to the Chief Executive role, having led <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/sitecore-acquires-boxever-and-four51">Boxever</a> – a customer data platform (CDP) – before it was acquired by Sitecore in 2021. This was a milestone moment for Sitecore, as the Boxever purchase was completed at the same time as the acquisition of commerce platform <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/sitecore-acquires-boxever-and-four51">Four51</a>.“I am honored to lead Sitecore into this next wave of growth,” said O'Flanagan. "We have a compelling product that delivers digital experiences that our peers simply cannot match; our commitment to composability and choice further differentiates us in how our customers buy; and simply put, we have the most innovative solutions, respected partners and committed workforce I could ask for. Roos is a proven technology leader with a track record for transforming and rapidly scaling global software businesses. He previously served as CEO at <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/ifs/">IFS</a> – an ERP vendor – where he also serves as Chairman of the Board. “I would like to thank both Steve Tzikakis and Jonas Persson, former Chair of the Board, for their incredible passion and hard work which has brought Sitecore to this point,” said Roos. “Reaching the milestone of over €450m in ARR makes Sitecore one of the largest software leaders in the world, trusted by the world's largest and most respected brands. The company's investment in technologies like Boxever and Four51 helped advance its completeness of vision, and its channel continues to be an important part of its continued growth – and upholding its household name status in the CMS and DXP industry.At the same time, competition is increasing both up and downstream. Challenges from other players on the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/the-dxp-kerfuffle-finding-the-big-chords-in-the-2024-gartner-magic-quadrant">Gartner MQ for DXP</a> (where Sitecore saw a shift from the Leaders to the Visionaries quadrant) are creating significant headwinds for enterprise players. The drive to embrace a more composable posture is also creating an urgency to evolve – all underpinned by a deafening volume around AI innovation that proves value to users, brands, and organizations.Additionally, a possible <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-06-13/eqt-is-said-to-weigh-sale-of-2-billion-danish-software-maker">sale by majority stakeholder EQT</a> has been volleyed publicly and could affect the optics – and confidence – for both existing customers and buyers. “Unifying and leveraging data to deliver compelling digital experiences is a high priority for all growing brands,” said <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/christian-shin-h%C3%B8egh-andersen-1199051/">Christian Shin Høegh Andersen</a>, partner at EQT. “The work Sitecore has already done to advance its Digital Experience Platform beyond that of its peers lays great foundations for what's to come. As the company conducts its search for a longer-term Chief Executive, O'Flanagan will likely be in the running, but much of that will be based on the coming weeks and months. One thing is certain: Sitecore continues to be a market force. Sitecore Symposium Takeaway Sessions 2022 Coming to London, Copenhagen, Stockholm

These days, if you're not beating the DXP drum of "composable" and "scalable," you might seem out of step with the direction of the market. That's been a challenge for traditionally monolithic platforms that have invested in a vision of completeness for enterprise customers, but still want to be perceived as flexible amidst a growing stack of services. 
In an effort to MACHify (more on that in a minute), <a href="https://www.sitecore.com/" target="_blank">Sitecore</a> is evolving its own monolithic legacy position by adapting its fully-integrated platform of solutions. At last week's <a href="https://symposium.sitecore.com/en/world-tour/London" target="_blank">Sitecore Symposium World Tour</a> in London, the company outlined a composable product portfolio, showcasing customers delivering digital experiences at scale with its own composable offerings. 
<h2>Driving DXP growth through strategic acquisitions</h2>
In case you missed the barrage of stories we covered, Sitecore has been making headlines since announcing its <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/sitecore-embarks-on-1-2b-investment-plan-to-accelerate-growth/" target="_blank">$1.2 billion capital investment</a> last year – which, at the time, was unprecedented in the industry. 
As part of its growth plan, the company went on an acquisition spree. In just one year, it purchased four technologies that addressed key gaps in its DXP strategy: <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/sitecore-acquires-ai-powered-search-platform-reflektion/" target="_blank">Reflektion</a>, an AI-powered digital search solution; <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/sitecore-acquires-moosend-adds-ai-powered-email-marketing-automation/" target="_blank">Moosend</a>, an e-mail marketing automation, and campaign management platform; <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/sitecore-acquires-boxever-and-four51/" target="_blank">Boxever</a>, a SaaS-based Customer Data Platform (CDP); and <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/sitecore-acquires-boxever-and-four51/" target="_blank">Four51</a>, a digital commerce platform for e-Commerce B2B marketplace solutions. 
According to the company, these platforms are now fully integrated into Sitecore, achieving a significant milestone in delivering a complete, SaaS-based DXP.
<h2>MACH vs. monolith... or can we all just get along?</h2>
We've talked a lot about <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/mach-alliance-releases-study-on-adoption-of-mach-technologies-by-tech-leaders-qa-with-sonja-keerl/">MACH</a>-based composable architectures and how they're being adopted at a wild pace, particularly as brands look to scale faster and faster. Following the seismic shift in digital transformation following the Covid-19 pandemic, many CMS and DXP companies doubled down on a composable market posture – and Sitecore was among the enterprise crop that announced its intentions to invest in a more composable DXP position.
Sitecore's product updates have been fundamental to expanding its advanced, SaaS-enabled capabilities, which do align with several principles of MACH architectures (which stands for Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native SaaS, and Headless). Sitecore says that its suite of capabilities will enable brands to provide real-time, personalized digital experiences across every touchpoint, from content to commerce – powered by the cloud. 
One of the key challenges for vendors in the MACH space is the ability to prove their "MACH centricity" under the tenants established by the <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/mach-alliance-releases-study-on-adoption-of-mach-technologies-by-tech-leaders-qa-with-sonja-keerl/">MACH Alliance</a>. The industry organization has become a bellwether for all things MACH and established strict requirements for members that reinforce the underlying fundamentals of the movement – all in an effort to help companies invest in the most composable solutions on the market.  For platforms like Sitecore, this has become an opportunity to tout the benefits of its broader market offerings while future-proofing products like <a href="https://www.sitecore.com/blog/headless/what-is-mach-architecture" target="_blank">Sitecore OrderCloud as "MACH Certified."</a>

<h2>Sitecore OrderCloud</h2>
<a href="https://ordercloud.io/" target="_blank">Sitecore OrderCloud</a> is an API-first, headless cloud platform for B2B, B2C, and B2X. This capability comes from the Four51 acquisition, which originally designed the platform. The new updates expand OrderCloud's marketplace support capabilities with the release of new order routing flexibility, supplier empowerment, and pricing flexibility. And as mentioned, OrderCloud is powered by a MACH architecture, giving it greater flexibility within the Sitecore stack.  
In addition, OrderCloud released a new Inventory Records feature to provide management flexibility that enables manufacturers, distributors, and retailers with seamless operational and commerce capabilities.
"With Sitecore OrderCloud, we are excited about the possibilities of connecting our customers with products they need and want to play sports and have fun," said Jason McConnell, Director of Product at NBC Sports Next. "We picked Sitecore OrderCloud because we're impressed with its composable developer-first functionality, which should give us all the flexibility needed to seamlessly weave commerce into our existing technology platforms." 
<h3>Sitecore Send</h3>
<a href="https://www.sitecore.com/products/send" target="_blank">Sitecore Send</a> is an e-mail marketing automation tool that evolved from the Moosend acquisition. Sitecore's updates include six additional languages: Spanish, French, German, Greek, Japanese, and Portuguese. Sitecore also announced a new pricing plan with a 30-day free trial for the full range of Send's enterprise-level features.
<h3>Sitecore Discover</h3>
<a href="https://www.sitecore.com/products/discover" target="_blank">Sitecore Discover</a> is an AI-powered product search and merchandising solution that came with the acquisition of Reflektion. It helps understand and predict an individual shopper's purchase intent based on patterns, context, and needs – all of which help convert browsers into buyers.
The updates provide Sitecore Discover's Commerce Engagement Console (CEC) with a revamped appearance library and editor, providing a better user experience and more control over merchandising. It also improves its widgets with type filters and rule exports, adding more convenience for users.
<h3>Sitecore Personalize</h3>
<a href="https://www.sitecore.com/products/sitecore-personalize" target="_blank">Sitecore Personalize</a> is an AI-driven, cloud-native solution for delivering tailored experiences to every customer. The product stems from the acquisition of Boxever, a SaaS-based Customer Data Platform (CDP) that provides decisioning and experimentation capabilities.
As part of the update package, Sitecore Personalize has completed its integration with Sitecore Experience Manager, offering channel diagnostic testing and real-time personalization that complements Sitecore's market-leading CMS – and is all delivered in the cloud.
<h3>Expanded integrations for Salesforce and more</h3>
Sitecore also published several new connectors on its Sitecore Marketplace for several product integrations, including Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Responsys, and Klaviyo. The company also added new AI-powered product discovery capabilities to support a broad range of commerce-related use cases, including intelligent search, product listing pages, and product recommendations.
<h2>Ramping up the competition</h2>
Sitecore has been a consistent Leader on <a href="https://www.gartner.com/en/webinars/4005210/the-gartner-magic-quadrant-for-digital-experience-platforms" target="_blank">Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Digital Experience Platforms</a>. However, in the most recent 2022 assessment, the platform has fallen slightly behind its chief competitors, Acquia and Optimizely, while Adobe continues to maintain its dominance.
