Content continues to be a crucial marketing strategy for any organization. When it comes to creation and structuring of content in WordPress, information is managed through posts and pages. Posts are added to an existing blog and displayed with the newest at the top. In a headless CMS environment, content and structuring are done through a web-based interface. The interface is accessible by content editors and authorized users who can create, edit, organize, and tag specific content. Content is generally stored in a database and available through API, so it can be displayed appropriately on any device.

<h4>Content Operations</h4>
Once the content is created and structured, it needs to be organized and produced to meet the needs of the target audience – also known as content operations.
In a monolithic environment, content management and organization involve scheduling, automatic notifications when new content is published, and configuring user permissions. Often, this occurs through third-party plugins, which can increase compatibility issues, security vulnerabilities, and more.
In a headless CMS, web-based interfaces can be accessed by any user on any device. WYSIWYG editor options, custom page types, workflow creation, and localization all provide a flexible and dynamic solution to content creation for a wide variety of audiences.
<h4>Content Management</h4>
Content management can be<a href="https://buttercms.com/blog/enterprise-content-management-challenges/"> your ultimate competitive edge</a>, increasing lead generation and conversion. This only happens, however, when you strategically plan your publication calendar.
In WordPress, content management includes SEO optimization tools (typically plugins) as well as automated publishing and scheduling processes.

Because content does not exist in solely written words, it is important for content teams to pay attention to how content types integrate with one another. In WordPress, this typically happens through third-party plug-ins and themes.
In a headless CMS, things like Rest API, webhooks, CDNs and microservices all handle integration and functionality based on the needs of a particular application. APIs can retrieve and utilize content in the CMS regardless of technology stack or programming language to create a unique, functional user experience.
<h4>Front-end Execution</h4>
In WordPress, front-end rendering is done through code and WordPress templates. Through a system of templates and template tags, you can control the execution of the pages, their structure and layout. In a headless CMS, front-end rendering happens through a separate application that takes the content and places it in an API, resulting in the rendering the user sees.
<h2>The Use of Headless WordPress</h2>
WordPress does have a headless option. However, technically, it’s decoupled, rather than truly headless. That’s because the head is still attached to the backend. In other words, when you use Headless WordPress, you still have to deal, at least partially, with the UI when installing things like main plugins and performing the setup. 
Drawbacks to a decoupled WordPress environment include increased maintenance, need for heightened development experience, plugin dependency, and potential increased cost to get what other truly headless CMS options give you right out of the gate.

However, there are important limitations to consider as you look to align your CMS with long term strategies.

The holidays call for a lot of cooking – and one essential ingredient is butter.

This marks the second acquisition for Tiugo in 2022. In addition to its core consultancy, the company appears to be building an API-first portfolio of developer platforms – with a keen focus on content creation and digital collaboration.

<h2>Collaboration brings new opportunities for ButterCMS</h2>

<h2>Tiugo expansion continues</h2>
Tiugo Technologies, a PSG portfolio company, also <a href="https://www.tiugotech.com/news/tiugo-technologies-cksource-acquisition" target="_blank">acquired CKSource</a> in May 2022.
“We’re excited to support Tiugo as it continues to broaden its capabilities through acquisitions of companies like Butter with an aim to deliver a comprehensive set of platforms for the software developer community,” said <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/marco-ferrari-59877425/" target="_blank">Marco Ferrari</a>, Managing Director at PSG.
Tiugo did not disclose any of the acquisition's financial details for ButterCMS. That said, the company does expect to acquire additional software brands in 2023.

<h2 id="a-new-way-of-doing-things">A new way of doing things</h2>
As ButterCMS Founder Jake Lumetta points out, the addition of components adds new layers of flexibility and control that traditional CMS doesn’t offer.
“Many marketers have to schedule a developer each time they want to make a change to a page. Even marketers who already have a good CMS are often limited to controlling content within a static layout,” says Lumetta. “Components give marketers the ability to add, remove, and reorder the elements of a page. This is a level of control some marketers have never had before.”
Today’s results-oriented marketing teams need the ability to continually test content and page variations. Components enable this, and they allow the marketing team to implement many changes on their own, without a developer.
Engineering configures a standard set of components upfront and creates the code to render those components as desired. Marketing can then choose which components to include in a page, and also gets complete control over the content.
<h2 id="how-components-work">How components work</h2>
While this change represents a major turning point in the workflow for developers and content marketers, it is a relatively small change to the ButterCMS user interface. Two new field types enable the component-based approach.
The first new field type is components. A component is essentially a repeatable grouping of fields. One component might include all of the copy and images for the page’s hero section, while another might include all of the links for the footer.
Components enable marketing teams to create standardized page elements, control their content, and easily reorder them within a page.
The second new field type is the component picker. The component picker provides a library of components that marketing can use to build whole pages. Components can be repeated and reordered within a page, providing the flexibility to use any combination and any number of components.
The result is that engineering builds one template, while marketing gets access to many dynamic landing pages.
<h2 id="building-a-page-with-buttercms-components">Building a page with ButterCMS components</h2>
Building a page with components is simple and intuitive. To illustrate, let’s look at the process you would follow to create this landing page:

When your components have been configured, the component picker allows you to choose which of them you want to include in the layout of your current page. You can choose as many custom components as you need, and you can repeat them within a page. Just click on the plus “+” sign to see all available components that your team has customized for you.

Setting up a page like this is a simple, straightforward process for both engineering and marketing.
After a component has been configured, it can be reused any number of times. ButterCMS maintains a library of your configured components, and you can use them every time you create a new page, even across different page types.
<h2 id="working-with-component-repeaters">Working with component repeaters</h2>
Component repeaters bring even more flexibility to a page by allowing users to repeat groups of fields for related items. It’s a great way to handle image galleries, feature grids, content sliders, and much more.

Looking at the e-commerce site below, you can see that there are multiple product slides that rotate within the hero section.

To model this in Butter, you would create a page with a hero component, add a repeater to the component, and finally, add fields to the repeater.

ButterCMS, in particular, has recently made some impressive product updates that have led to productivity enhancements for their users, both content editors as well as developers. This tool can be consistently modified to perform new commands and improve older ones according to your customization requirements.
