This feature is available both for internal and external communications and requires a simple browser plug-in.
Thanks to the integrated Send&amp;Save™ technology, organizations can solve a major headache associated with the fact that email remains the main business communication tool. Correspondence is usually dispersed among user mailboxes without proper archiving and sharing, thus leaving no significant footprint after employee dismissal. The new feature duplicates email in the intranet, stores messages in dedicated discussions with shared user access rights and indexes it for the D.I.G. The integrated SMTP server sorts incoming email to dedicated discussions in Bitrix Intranet Portal and delivers notifications about group announcements, replies and new topics back to user inboxes. Jaws 0.8.13 released

SilverStripe 2.4 has been released and this release comes with a ton of new changes, highlighted below.
<h3>Hierarchical URLs</h3>
If your website contains a large number of pages, you may find SilverStripe's default way of handling URLs a little limiting. Until now, URLs could only be one level deep, for example:
<pre>http://website.com/new-york-staff-john-smith</pre>
With hierarchical URLs, the address for such a page might be:
<pre>http://website.com/offices/new-york/staff/john-smith</pre>
One of the principles of this feature is that it provides a logical “bread crumb” for a page. Each URL segment (as separated by a slash) is a page in itself that can be visited. Hierarchical URLs also reduce the problem of “running out” of URLs, where you might be forced to have URLs like http://website.com/staff-2.
SilverStripe 2.4 allows you to run the website in either simple or hierarchical URL mode.

<h3>Microsoft SQL Server database support</h3>
We have seen strong demand for SilverStripe to run on the Microsoft platform—in recent months there have been tens of thousands of downloads via the Microsoft.com web application gallery alone. We have therefore worked hard to allow SilverStripe to natively run on a SQL Server 2008 database, eliminating the requirement to run SilverStripe on MySQL (though, of course, it still runs great on MySQL). We're really happy with the results, and we have government websites like www.gw.govt.nz already running on this platform.
Running SilverStripe on SQL Server requires the installation of the SilverStripe SQL Server module.
<h3>PostgreSQL database support</h3>
SilverStripe 2.4 can also run on a PostgreSQL 8.3 or later database. We are continuosly testing this feature; however, our testing has not been as extensive as it has been for Microsoft SQL Server. We'd love for you to install SilverStripe 2.4 with the PostgreSQL Database Support module and let us know how it goes.
<h3>Performance and memory use optimisations</h3>
Memory use optimisations mean that the CMS backend interface for the “Site Content” section easily scales to well over 10,000 pages. Changes include:
<ul>
<li>Performance improvements around Object and ViewableData property access.</li>
<li>Improved unit test execution speed.</li>
<li>Decreased memory usage in “Files &amp; Images” section.</li>
<li>Ability to cache parts of templates, providing a middle ground between the speed of fully cached pages and the richness of fully dynamic database-driven pages.</li>
<li>Batch action handling handles larger tree structures, provides better visual feedback, and respects permissions on individual pages.</li>
<li>Tests that SilverStripe is compatible with Microsoft's new WinCache PHP bytecode cache. Anecdotal tests show that WinCache provides a 50% speed improvement in generating SilverStripe webpages.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Introducing roles</h3>
SilverStripe has long had support for setting granular security permissions on pages. Users can be a member of one or more groups, and groups can be configured to have various system rights. We also allow various view and edit permissions on a page-by-page basis. This provides a great deal of flexibility, but in complex organisations the task of setting up the permission structures can mean spending a lot of time creating security groups.
With SilverStripe 2.4 we've made it easier to manage more complex security configurations with the introduction of roles. Roles allows you to create groupings of people who
<ul>
<li>Have the same system rights (e.g., access to create pages but not create users.)</li>
<li>Have those rights for different sections of a website (e.g., news section, product catalogue, corporate profile, etc.)</li>
</ul>
Roles are optional.
<h3>Other security features</h3>
<ul>
<li>A group can be limited to only edit a certain language in the CMS.</li>
<li>Team members can get permissions to see the draft version of a page in preview mode without requiring CMS access.</li>
<li>Pages of type “Virtual Page” have improved stability in regards to their permission control, translation, and publication.</li>
<li>More fine-grained permission control for translators.</li>
<li>Better XSS security of the autologin token by using HTTPOnly cookies.</li>
<li>More secure against brute force login attempts.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Other key improvements</h3>
<ul>
<li>Our new SiteConfig feature allows you to store site-wide settings including permissions and languages used on your site.</li>
<li>The CMS now searches for broken internal links to other pages and broken file references, and highlights them in the WYSIWYG editor. A report can be used to show broken links across the website.</li>
<li>Improved API to allow custom tags to be parsed within CMS content before being presented on webpages.</li>
<li>Improved reporting API to unify the CMS sidebar reports and full-page reports on their own section. It's easier to add custom filters to reports.</li>
<li>Added dropdown to choose from existing anchor links when inserting a link from the CMS sidebar.</li>
<li>Improved broken link detection.</li>
<li>Removed the jsparty/ toplevel folder, and moved all its dependencies into sapphire/thirdparty and cms/thirdparty.</li>
<li>More than 350 bugfix and enhancement commits, plus over 200 minor changes.</li>

Open Standards
CRX 2.1 adds support for both the JSR-283 and CMIS standards. JSR-283 support follows the December ratification of this successor standard to JSR-170, capping a multi-year effort led by CTO David Nuescheler in the Java Community Process (JCP) and Apache Jackrabbit project. Along with support for JCR 2.0, CRX 2.1 also adds support for the upcoming CMIS standard, which is scheduled for final voting and ratification 30 April 2010. CRX’s support for CMIS follows nearly one year after Day’s announcement of the Apache Chemistry project to provide a common, vendor-neutral reference implementation of the CMIS standard to promote development and adoption of the new standard. With major vendors like SAP and OpenText part of the Apache Chemistry project, CRX 2.1 provides standardized support for CMIS in addition to support for JCR.
Virtualization and IT Consolidation
Day extends CRX’s virtual repository to extend a JSR-283 and CMIS interface to leading enterprise content management repositories, including Microsoft SharePoint. Leveraging CRX 2.1, organizations can now federate any number of Microsoft SharePoint servers to provide a consolidated platform for composite content application development leveraging industry-standards.
Rapid Composite Content Application Development
CRX 2.1 introduces new tools for developer productivity. For web developers, CRX 2.1 introduces a new browser-based development environment, CRXDE Lite, that offers code-editing, packaging and deployment support for composite content applications, along with integration with leading source code management (SCM) systems like Subversion. For developers building and testing new CRX-based content applications in the Cloud, CRXDE Lite’s browser-based experience simplifies the development process and provides a fun-to-use developer experience.
On-Demand Scalability with the Cloud
CRX 2.1 adds new support for elastic storage capability with native support for Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3. Leveraging S3, enterprise customers can scale their Amazon-hosted content repositories on-demand. CRX 2.1 also now pioneers a new hybrid Cloud deployment model, enabling enterprise customers deploying on-premises software to rapidly add new CRX servers in the Cloud on-demand to accommodate increased site or application loads. With CRX 2.1, these new instances can be “hot-joined” to a running on-premises cluster with zero downtime, enabling organizations to build virtual clusters across both on-premises and off-premises servers to best leverage elastic scalability through the Cloud.
Cloud-hosted PackageShare Service
In addition to its native Cloud support, Day also introduces with CRX 2.1 its first Cloud-hosted service, PackageShare. PackageShare is Day’s online service for enabling CRX developers worldwide to package and share composite content applications, providing a global catalog of pre-built solutions and components. CRX developers can browse PackageShare directly from their CRX development environment, download, install and subscribe to updates for packages shared by other developers in the CRX community. CRX developers can easily post new packages to PackageShare, view community feedback and ratings on posted packages, and easily find new, useful packages leveraging integrated search and pre-set filters.

Day Software Advances Standards Support with New CMIS and JSR-283-compliant ECM Platform

Contributor Agreement (JCA), the project’s new general public license (GPL). As a result, Joomla! users will experience improved Internet Information Services (IIS) compatibility and support in Joomla! 1.5.16. In addition, key Microsoft code contributions will be included in the trunk of the upcoming Joomla! 1.6, allowing the system to benefit from increased speed and efficiency by leveraging the Windows® Cache Extension for PHP.
“Microsoft signing the JCA is big news for the Joomla! community. Not only is this the largest organization to ever contribute code and to agree to the terms of our contributor agreement, but this means Joomla! users will get improved performance and usability of Joomla! on Microsoft’s IIS,” said Ryan Ozimek, President of Open Source Matters. “We’ve always had a portion of our community that has been IIS-based, yet we haven’t been able to offer the ideal level of IIS support and integration.
