Piwik 1.8 is so packed with new features its hard to pick which ones to highlight. This is good. In the world of web analytics the more features and abilities the better. It is important to know if your hard work and efforts are making the difference and bringing traffic to your site. Let us examine some of the features shall we?
<h3>Historical Analytics Report of any row</h3>
Row Evolution allows to visualize a detailed report for a given row in any report table in Piwik. You can now hover over the row and see the graph icon. Click on it to open what Piwik calls the Row Evolution report. This report contains a graph of the last 30 days (or weeks or months etc.), below the graph you will find the main metrics: visits, page views, conversions, etc. along with a sparkline and a % change over the period. It is easy to change the metric being plotted so you can easily visualize the number of visits over the last 30 weeks of a particular search engine keyword. Still you are only one click away from plotting on the graph the number of conversions for this keyword.

<h3>Dashboard Mega Improvements &amp; Custom Dashboards</h3>
You can now create Custom Dashboards! They will be added as a submenu, you can create unlimited dashboards. It is also possible to set the default Widgets layout used for all newly created dashboard, the rename a dashboard, remove it (delete), or reset to the default widget selection &amp; default layout.
Dashboard now automatically records &amp; restore the full state of the widgets, including for example the columns you chose to plot on the graph.
Along with the ability to customize the columns layout (change to 4 columns, or one wide and 2 small for example), it makes it easy to create exactly the dashboard you need and reuse it over and over again, customizing it along the way.
Dashboard can now be embed via Iframe and token_auth and it works like a charm. Piwik also added widgets for the Visitor Log and for the All Websites dashboard. Really quite a lot of users were eagerly waiting for these improvements making it trivial to export ANY Piwik report anywhere… as an Iframe or direct link!

<h3>DoNotTrack support enabled by default</h3>
When users click “Tell websites I do not want to be tracked” in their web browser, Piwik will listen and not track the user. Piwik is proud to support this privacy initiative. It is of course possible to disable the DoNotTrack support, in Settings &gt; Privacy.
Note: DoNotTrack will not solve the (lack of) privacy online, it is however a small step towards a better world.
New Javascript function to disable all first party cookies from being read/set, existing cookies will be deleted. New function is: disableCookies(). This is particularly useful since the UK started requesting website owners to disclose the use of cookies, and make it easy to opt-out of all first party analytics cookies.

SiteExecutive 2012 release

Symphony proudly releases version 2.3 of their open source XML/XSLT content management system. It has been over a year since the last major release and the team at Symphony is ready to show you new features and improvements they have been fine tuning.
Just as it takes many instruments playing perfectly together to produce a “symphony” of sound, many tweaks and upgrades have come together to produce this release. Here are some of the features of this update:

DotNetNuke 6.2 now available

With a full release just on the horizon, SilverStripe proudly releases version 3.0 beta 3 for download and review. This update consists of many “under the hood” changes but the two most highlighted improvements are the new UI and a separate framework release.
<h4>The new “paint job”</h4>
SilverStripe is giving great attention to usability with the totally redesigned user interface. Users tested and SilverStripe listened basing many of their improvements off of the usability testing results. They have come up with a UI that allows content editors to easily update content and even site structure with simple text editing skills. This should allow for a shorter implementation to production time period. SilverStripe has also simplified the media embedding process. Whether it is from YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr or other sites it is simply a matter of inserting the media's URL and SilverStripe does the rest.
<h4>Framework release for developers</h4>
The beta release is unique also in that the SilverStripe framework is now also available. This allows developers to extend SilverStripe from just a website to a full blown web application. API's have been either replaced or improved to give developers advanced control. With namespace support, PHP 5.3+ support, and a responsive default theme, developers are given a head-start to begin building applications. Designers are not left out because this framework includes a “template engine” which keeps the PHP scripting in its place so front-end user experience experts can have complete creative control over HTML and CSS.

SocialEngine 4.2.4 release

Love them or hate them, WordPress plugins are a big part of what makes the CMS so versatile. From event management, social syndication, and contact forms to performing backups and creating a social network; there is a plugin to fit almost endless needs. Lately the “code poets” at WordPress.org have made some changes to the Plugins Directory pages.
One of my favorite (ha pun intended) new feature is the ability to “favorite” plugins.

Getting support is very important when choosing and implementing a plugin. Now each plugin has its own forum under the support tab on the plugin's page. These will support “sticky” posts as well so that FAQs can be nicely fit at the top.

A few other upgrades include visual changes such as authors displayed with larger gravatars. Stats will eventually display two months of information. Also these subtle but important updates:

<li>“Plugin headers” or those cool graphics you see at the top of plugin pages have really taken off, there are over 1,600 active now.</li>
<li>You can now subscribe to get an email whenever a commit is made to a plugin repository even if it isn’t yours. There is no better way to follow the development of your favorite plugins. There’s nothing like the smell of fresh changesets in the morning.</li>
<li>Behind the scenes, we’ve dramatically ramped up proactive scanning of the entire repository to help authors fix security and other problems they might not even know about yet. The quality level of the repo has gone way, way up.</li>

WordPress refreshes their Plugin pages

Users of the social networking CMS, Elgg, should be aware of a new update that has been posted on the main website. Version 1.8.5 has been made available and resolves a number of outstanding issues including:
<ul>
<li>a security fix that prevents a potential XSS attack against users who click a specially crafted URL.</li>
<li>a fix that closes a loophole which allowed users to create a new account without requiring validation.</li>
<li>a third fix that addresses an access bug that could inadvertently reveal private entities to users who wouldn’t otherwise have access.</li>
</ul>
There are also a few minor bug fixes in this release:
<ul>
<li>For those networks that have enabled the Twitter API plugin, new users are forwarded to the correct page after creating an account with Twitter.</li>
<li>PDF files display in the browser instead of downloading directly to users computers.</li>
<li>Fixed some upgrade issues related to the system log.</li>
</ul>
Users of prior version should consider upgrading as soon as possible.

Serious content marketers know how powerful a tool video is when capturing and holding the attention of site visitors. Brightcove is a solid choice for video content delivery thanks to their robust “in the cloud” approach.
Long story short, Brightcove is a top notch web video solution. Recently they have announced exciting integrations with some of the most widely used Content Management Systems: Adobe CQ5, Agility, Atex Polopoly, Drupal, Ektron, Microsoft Sharepoint 2010, PaperThin CommonSpot, Sitecore, and WordPress. Jeff Whatcott, chief marketing officer at Brightcove, had this to say about how important video is as part of your web content strategy:
