CrownPeak Unveils Digital Asset Management Solution

<p>After the <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/concrete5-5.7-released-and-updated/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">major release of Concrete5 5.7</a>, the Concrete5 team has just unveiled a new batch of updates concerning Grid Framework improvements, theme customization, and so forth.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.concrete5.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Concrete5</a> is a popular open-source content management system with a reputation for flexibility and its strong community. So strong in fact, that Concrete5 has just been awarded the <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/2014-best-free-php-cms/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">2014 People's Choice CMS Award for Best Free PHP CMS</a>.</p>
<p>Let's take a look at what version 5.7.2.1 of Concrete5 brings to the table.</p>

<p>The <a href="http://www.concrete5.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Concrete5 </a>  team has been busy recently, releasing version 5.7, before updating it twice. They've also released some developer resources for anybody wanting to delve into the code.</p>
<p>Concrete5 is an open-source content management system with a reputation for flexibility and its strong community.</p>
<p>Version 5.7 brought about a myriad of updates, and Concrete5 has continued to add to it since. The result? A long, long list of new stuff for Concrete5 users to enjoy.</p>
<h2>“Deep Changes” with Concrete5 5.7</h2>
<p>Concrete5 5.7 has enhancements for a long list of areas. Users will find that content editing, theme customization, and so forth have all been optimized.</p>
<p>Regarding the release, Concrete5 CTO Andrew Embler had this to say:</p>
<blockquote><p>“For the first time in 6 years, we’ve decided to not put backward compatibility first and foremost. We really wanted to have a clean slate, so we could embrace ideas that involved deep changes to the system.”</p></blockquote>
<p>Here's a breakdown of what's new with Concrete5.</p>
<h3>Editing</h3>
<ul>
<li>A completely new layout engine allows for inline editing of content, layouts and style customization. Blocks can be dragged into the page and easily rearranged.</li>
<li>Inline content editing uses the Redactor editor, a beautiful editor with deep integration to concrete5, and full bootstrap 3 interface integration.</li>
<li>The Dashboard user interface is completely updated. Navigating it is much easier, and the interface is much more attractive.</li>
<li>concrete5’s user interface is now powered by Bootstrap 3.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Themes and Blocks</h3>
<ul>
<li>Concrete5 now ships with the all-new and better looking Elemental theme.</li>
<li>The concrete5 Dashboard, main toolbar and Elemental theme are all fully responsive.</li>
<li>Themes can optionally refer to grid frameworks, and can have full grid support built-in. Layouts have been substantially updated to support these grid frameworks (as well as be fully responsive.)</li>
</ul>
<h3>Pages and Architecture</h3>
<ul>
<li>Page types and page templates are now two separate concepts. Page types refer to pages as objects – Blog Entry, Empty Page, Project, Product – and page templates refer to templates that actually appear in themes. The same page type can be run in multiple themes.</li>
<li>concrete5’s Composer is now a very flexible form builder that can route attributes and blocks into different page templates. Each page type has its own custom instance of Composer.</li>
<li>A Feed Object is available in the Dashboard (and created through the Page List block), giving Page Lists the ability to create RSS feeds that are permalinked.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Files</h3>
<ul>
<li>A completely new image editor is now built-in. Resize and crop images, and add filters.</li>
<li>File manager thumbnails are now completely extensible. Multiple thumbnails at different breakpoints can power the picture tag in a theme that supports it.</li>
<li>File storage locations are now pluggable. An adapter for Amazon S3 is coming shortly.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Conversations</h3>
<ul>
<li>Conversations are now built-in, with the Conversations block replacing the Guestbook block. Conversations is a reusable, object-oriented way to build conversations throughout a site, and use the same system for powering a guestbook as ultimately powering a forum. Conversations features threading, asynchronous loading, file attachments, spam filtering, flagging, rating and more.</li>
</ul>

<li>Added detail error message when attempting to use grid methods on areas in themes that don’t support them.</li>
<li>Fallback to GD if Imagemagick is older than version 6.2.9 (which previously triggered errors)</li>
<li>Context menu on sitemap, file manager and more moves to the right if there isn’t enough room to display top or bottom</li>

Kentico 8.1 Combines Greater Ease and Performance with New LinkedIn and SharePoint Integration

<p><a href="http://www.portlandlabs.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> PortlandLabs</a>, the company behind <a href="/products/concrete5/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Concrete5</a> CMS, has released new tools and pricing to serve enterprise organizations that want an easy way to edit their website.</p>
<p>Thanks to a simple point-and-click interface and editing toolbar, Concrete5 has become a popular choice for users who want a CMS that helps manage websites easily. And now, enterprise users can get in on the action.</p>
<p>Let's take a look at what larger companies can now enjoy.</p>
<h2>Internationalization to Centralization</h2>
<p>PortlandLabs have outlined four key tools that make up this enterprise release:</p>

<p>Have you ever wanted to try the new, popular blogging platform Ghost? Today, you are in luck. If you don't want to test out their hosted version, you can download and set up Ghost quickly and easily on your own hosting solution.</p>
<p>I happen to use <a href="https://www.servint.net/">Servint</a> and today, I'm going to show you how to to set up Ghost on it in a few short, simple steps.</p>
<p>Servint offers the perfect environment to install <a href="http://ghost.org/">Ghost</a> (the new blogging platform) on.</p>
<p>I'm going to walk you through the process quickly and easily with a number of straightforward steps. Let's get started.</p>
<ol>
<li>First, log into your WHM as root and navigate to Service Configuration &gt;&gt; Apache Configuration &gt;&gt; Reserved IPs Editor. From here, choose an IP address you wish to reserve for Ghost and click the checkmark in the Reserved box. This will release the IP address from Apache when you click save.</li>
<li>Once this is complete, you'll need to assign the IP address to the domain you wish to use. If you haven't set up your domain within WHM as of yet, you'll need to Create a New Account for the domain. You can do so at Account Functions » Create a New Account.</li>
<li>Once the account is created, it's time to assign the IP address you reserved to the domain you wish to use. To get started, go to Account Information » List Accounts. Find the domain in question and click on the + sign beside it. This will give you a number of buttons and options. Click on <strong>Change IP Address</strong>. You will be presented with a dropdown box of IP addresses, find the one that you reserved and select it. Click save. It may take upwards of 24 hours for the changes to propagate globally so if you cannot access the domain on that newly assigned IP address quite yet, don't worry, it will work soon. In the interim, you can access your ghost install via your IP address when we are done.</li>
<li>The next step will be to FTP into your account using the domain (or IP address you just assigned) and the credentials you specified when you created the new account in step 2. You'll want to have downloaded the Ghost source code from <a href="http://ghost.org/">http://ghost.org</a> and extracted the file. Now, connect using an FTP client and upload the contents of this folder into your www directory. Do not upload the ghost folder itself, just the contents (ie: folders and files within the zip).</li>
<li>Now it's time to SSH into your server and get things set up. If you do not have root access via SSH to your server, you can submit a request to ServInt via the support portal and they will activate it for you straight away. Do be careful, however, as root access to your server enabled can be dangerous if you do not have a strong password. In the hands of the wrong person, they can wipe all of your stuff and cause some serious damage. Once you have root access, ssh into your box using a program such as <a href="http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/%7Esgtatham/putty/">Putty</a> or something similar.</li>
<li>Now, we're going to install node and npm. Thankfully, ServInt uses CentOS and already has the right repository set up so that makes it easy. Run the command <code>yum install npm --enablerepo=epel</code>. This will begin the installation process. When complete, run <code>npm -v</code> and <code>node -v</code> and you should get back version numbers for each. If you do, you are ready for the next step.</li>
<li>From within your www (or public html) folder, run the command <code>npm install --production</code>. This will install Ghost and get it ready for your site.</li>
<li>Now, the first time you run Ghost it will copy the config.example.js file to config.js. Personally, I did this myself and then made the necessary modifications, so go ahead and run the command <code>cp config.example.js config.js</code>. Now you'll need to edit this file, so run <code>nano config.js</code>.</li>
<li>With the file open in the editor, change all instances of <code>http://my-ghost-blog.com</code> to your own domain. You will find it listed twice, once under Development and once under Production. Now change all instances of <code>127.0.0.1</code> to your IP address (the one you assigned to your domain) and all instances of <code>2368</code> to <code>80</code>. Now hit <code>ctrl-x</code> and <code>s</code> to save.</li>
<li>Now, in my instance, I didn't want to have to keep a ssh session open to run Ghost so I decided to do so using forever. Forever is an app that will monitor your node.js (Ghost) session and keep it running. If it stops for some reason it will restart it for you automatically. To install forever run these commands: <code>npm -g install forever</code>.</li>
<li>Once installed, you can start your new Ghost installation. The first time you start it, set the environment to production using this command: <code>NODE_ENV=production forever start index.js</code>. Once you've started it, you can leave the shell and access your new Ghost installation on either your domain or the IP address followed by /ghost in your browser. The first time you access Ghost, you'll need to set up a user. Once done, you'll be up and running. To stop your installation in the future, SSH into your server and run <code>forever stop index.js</code> from within the www directory for your account (ie: /home/domain/www/).</li>
</ol>

<p>As you may know, I was in attendance at the Magnolia Conference last month in Basel, Switzerland and was asked to participate in a roundtable called “Mastering Customer Experience Management.”</p>

<p>Concrete5 has finally slapped a <a href="http://www.concrete5.org/about/blog/core-releases/5-7-beta-release-date/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> date on the beta release of version 5.7</a> of their open-source CMS. That date, is July 21st, 2014.</p>
<p>Users of Concrete5 have been waiting a long time to get their hands on version 5.7, particularly because <a href="http://www.concrete5.org/about/blog/core-releases/concrete5-5-6-0-now-available/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">version 5.6 was released way back in August 2012</a>.</p>
<p>Concrete5 is a CMS that helps users manage websites easily, via a simple point-and-click interface and editing toolbar.</p>
<p>This announcement also comes a couple of months after Concrete5 gave users a <a href="/concrete5-offer-up-developer-sneak-peak-of-version-5.7/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> developer sneak peek of version 5.7</a>.</p>

Concrete5 5.7 Beta Release Date Announced

<p><a href="https://www.kentico.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kentico</a> have announced the release date of the latest version of their integrated marketing solution, Kentico 8.1.</p>
<p>The date they have given is August 22nd, 2014. In addition, thanks to listening to some feedback, Kentico have also said that they will make the upgrade procedure available on the same date.</p>
<p>Also, Kentico have announced that the beta version of Kentico 8.1 will be available by the end of July 2014.</p>
<p>This news comes just a few months after the <a href="/kentico-8-introduces-slick-new-interface-and-improved-marketing-suite/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">release of Kentico 8</a>, which brought along with it a completely revamped interface, as well as a number of enhancements for Kentico's integrated marketing suite.</p>
<h2>Social Marketing &amp; Sharepoint Integration</h2>
<p>So, what can Kentico users expect from version 8.1? Well, here's what Kentico have unveiled so far:</p>
<ul>
<li>Upgrade improvements</li>
<li>Pages usability enhancements</li>

Kentico 8.1 Release Date Revealed

<p>I've just finished publishing the announcement over on our awards site that breaks down the new categories this year for the CMS awards.</p>
<p>As you know, there are two portions of the awards; Peoples Choice and Critics Choice. These categories apply to both Peoples Choice and Critics Choice. Submissions for both will be considered but in the end, the judges will decide which projects are best suited to receive each type of award.</p>

<p>Consumers today don’t just expect relevant and contextual experiences and interactions with brands; they demand it. With the amount of data brands are collecting from consumers across various touchpoints, marketers are being pressed more than ever to leverage that data and consistently deliver meaningful, relevant experiences. At a time when consumers use multiple devices during their customer journeys, brands are often challenged with understanding each customer’s current needs specifically in context, in order to anticipate their next steps.</p>
<p>When it comes to the Web, data-driven insights are generated when consumers visit a brand’s Web and mobile sites. Marketers must be able to apply these insights and integrate them with valuable customer data from other interaction channels. Often times, organizations rely on multiple technologies that lack seamless integration to provide the relevant data points needed to drive the customer experience. The result tends to be a disjointed brand experience in the form of sporadic, ineffective campaigns.</p>

In my view as a CMO, context cannot be ignored, as it will play an increasingly significant role in customer experience as consumer demands grow and attention spans dwindle.</p>
