As you may have heard, Acquia recently picked up a Toronto based company named focused on personalization for websites / commerce sites called TruCentric.
We took this opportunity to chat with Acquia about this acquisition and find out their motivations behind the purchase.
What spurred the acquisition of TruCentric over other players in the industry?
Digital marketers need to gain a deep understanding of all site visitors, including those that are anonymous, in order to grow their audience and drive conversions. Acquia is acquiring TruCentric, because it provides high resolution, real-time customer profiling for every site visitor based on their online behavior and preferences. With that information, digital marketers can deliver engaging, hyper-personalized experiences that appeal to site visitors and compel them to take a desired action.
Will the employees of TruCentric be taking on similar roles within Acquia now?
All TruCentric employees will join Acquia.  
What are the long term plans for Acquia now that this acquisition has been announced?
Acquia helps businesses build and support digital properties, so they can out-compete their rivals among a the rapidly changing digital landscape. Personalized engagement and commerce are important revenue drivers for today’s digital-first businesses, so with this acquisition, Acquia is expanding the digital engagement and commerce segment of the business. TruCentric will extend the capabilities of Acquia Lift. TruCentric’s analytical insights, paired with Acquia Lift’s testing and personalization capabilities, will allow digital marketers to transform digital interactions into hyper-personalized experiences.
Can we expect to see a form of marketing suite integration into the Acquia platform?
Digital is disrupting every all modern business processes, not just marketing. In order for businesses to win against competitors, they need to drive digital transformation across their entire company, including commerce, customer support, employe engagement and more. We’re not building out a marketing suite, we’re building out a platform for digital business optimization — one that unifies content, community and commerce, offering much more than traditional marketing suites.
What type of competitive advantage does Acquia hope to gain from this new acquisition?
This acquisition will accelerate Acquia’s leadership in website personalization. The combination of  Acquia Lift and TruCentric will provide marketers with deep insight, and the ability to automate changes to Drupal-based sites accordingly. The joint solution will seamlessly integrate known data with anonymous data, building the level of understanding across customer segments necessary to increase conversions.

Today, I am pleased to announce that the Third Annual Critics' Choice CMS Awards will begin June 15, 2014!  For those of you who have been emailing me all year asking when they start, this post is for you ;).

The Third Annual Critics Choice CMS Awards

<a href="http://ez.no/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> eZ Publish</a> have released version 5.3 of their popular platform with an impressive 59 new features, 233 bug fixes &amp; 69 improvements.
The Content Management (CMS) &amp; Customer Experience (CXM) platform offers many tools to help publish content across multiple channels, create eCommerce websites, and more.
Version 5.3 of eZ Publish is the fourth major release in the 5 series, and has been labelled a Long Term Supported release (LTS). This means that it will be supported up to end of May 2019 with extended support.

eZ Publish 5.3 puts a lot of effort into making things easier for developers to use the platform efficiently.

One of the ways eZ Publish 5.3 helps developers, is through improved documentation that will naturally make it easier to anyone to get started.
Furthermore, version 5.3 brings about drastically improved integration of the Symfony environment, along with the capability to easily build websites relying on the “eZ Platform” stack (“New Stack”) – removing dependencies on the legacy stack (4.x).
The eZ Publish Demo Site has also been improved to progressively become the reference for developers to see how features can be used to build their Websites.
Among the many enhancements made to the Demo Site, is the ready-to-use feature called “Places”, which shows ou how to best deal with geolocation and how to search on geolocated data, thanks to the latest improvement in the eZ Publish API and in SolR. Essentially, the “Places” feature enables you to quickly create your own listing of places (such as a business directory) and display them efficiently.

eZ Publish Platform 5.3 Released

Today, <a href="http://www.wix.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wix</a> have treated their 46 million strong user base with a new and exciting animation feature which will bring Wix websites to life.
Wix is an extremely user-friendly website builder, giving users of all skill levels an opportunity to build a beautiful web presence for free, or on enhanced paid plans.
With this new animation feature, those beautiful websites can now get a face lift. Page elements like images and text can now be individually animated before visitors' eyes, which means they can fade in to view, slide in from the side, and more.

Wix Releases New Animation Feature

<a href="https://drupal.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Drupal</a> have released their second Drupal 7 update in a month, in the form of Drupal 7.28.
Drupal is an open source platform which boasts over 630,000 users and developers, many of whom help to maintain the product.
This is thanks to Drupal's open development model, which enables users and developers to constantly refine the platform, keeping it a cutting-edge CMS that supports the latest technologies that the Web has to offer.
Last month, <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/drupal-release-versions-7.27-and-6.31-to-fix-security-vulnerabilities/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Drupal released versions 7.27 and 6.2</a>3 with security updates and bug fixes. Today, Drupal users will be happy to hear that more bugs have been zapped.
<h3>Here are just a few of the changes made via Drupal 7.28:</h3>
<ul>
<li>Fixed a regression introduced in Drupal 7.27 that caused JavaScript to break on older browsers (such as Internet Explorer 8 and earlier) when Ajax was used.</li>
<li>Changed the pager on the Tracker module listing pages show the same number of items as other pagers throughout Drupal core (minor UI change).</li>
<li>Fixed a bug which caused caches not to be properly cleared when a file entity was saved or deleted.</li>
<li>Fixed a bug in the Taxonomy module update function introduced in Drupal 7.26 that caused memory and CPU problems on sites with very large numbers of unpublished nodes.</li>
</ul>
Drupal 7.28 contains bug fixes and small API/feature improvements only. The full list of changes between the 7.27 and 7.28 releases can be found by reading the <a href="http://drupal.org/drupal-7.28-release-notes">7.28 release notes</a>. Also, Drupal have made no changes to the .htaccess, web.config, robots.txt or default settings.php files in this new 7.28 release, so upgrading custom versions of those files is not necessary.

Drupal 7.28 Released With Numerous Bug Fixes

<a href="https://www.socialengine.com/">SocialEngine</a> PHP users will be pleased to hear of the platform's latest release, version 4.8.2.
The widely popular social network software comes in two editions; SocialEngine Cloud and SocialEngine PHP (non-hosted).
SocialEngine is completely unbranded and can be customized to no end. Thanks to the large SocialEngine Community, there are also plenty of addons and themes to be experimented with.
With SocialEngine PHP 4.8.2, numerous bug and performance fixes have been introduced. Here's a quick overview of what SocialEngine PHP users can expect.
<h3>SocialEngine 4.8.2 Features:</h3>
<ul>
<li>Added ability to sort and filter login history</li>
<li>Added option to not automatically friend request invited members</li>
<li>Select language based on the browser’s Accept-Language header</li>
</ul>
<h3>SocialEngine 4.8.2 Bug fixes:</h3>
<ul>
<li>Improved request backoff for activity feed and chat polling</li>
<li>Deleting a photo from an album no longer will remove album from your activity feed</li>
<li>Made searching members less strict</li>
<li>Users who don’t meet the privacy criteria cannot be added as guests to an event</li>
</ul>
Additionally, SocialEngine have also implemented a Core Zend update, which was originally outlined in their <a href="/socialengine-php-4-8-released/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">4.8.0 Release Notes</a>. They upgraded Zend to 1.12.3, which resolved a long list of bugs in the software. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite work for everybody who upgraded to 4.8.0 at the time – but with 4.8.2, all Zend-related issues have been fixed.

SocialEngine PHP 4.8.2 Released

<a href="http://joomla.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Joomla</a> today announced the immediate availability of the newest version of the world-renewed content management system, Joomla 3.3.
Powering just over <a href="http://w3techs.com/technologies/details/cm-joomla/all/all" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">3% of the entire Internet</a>, Joomla is used for all kinds of online projects, from websites to blogs to custom apps to Intranets.
The newest Joomla CMS overhauls its approach to security, enables microdata for the first time, and replaces MooTools-based JavaScript with jQuery equivalents. These new features make Joomla 3.3 the most secure, searchable, and fastest-loading Joomla CMS yet, ensuring the most efficient developer experience for Joomla out of the box.

Sarah Watz, the newly elected president of Open Source Matters — a nonprofit that provides organizational, legal and financial support to the Joomla project — had this to say upon the new release:

Despite this massive surge, we are continuing to make improvements to ensure Joomla is cutting-edge for our user community of millions of people around the globe.”</blockquote>
Joomla 3.3 brings about three key features:
<ul>
<li> Minimum PHP version is 5.3.10:   This substantially enhances the level of cryptography that can be used for securing passwords.</li>
<li> jQuery JavaScript:   By moving from MooTools to jQuery JavaScript, the size of Joomla websites will be reduced, ultimately enabling sites to load faster.</li>
<li> Microdata implementation:   This allows many aspects of the content rendered by the Joomla CMS to be explained to search engines using semantic information. Ultimately, this enables Joomla websites to be more searchable.</li>
</ul>
Chad Windnagle, Google Summer of Code Co-Admin for Joomla, also commented on Joomla's latest release:
<blockquote>“Some of the enhancements in Joomla 3.3 came from Joomla student developers from last summer’s <a href="http://www.marketwired.com/press-release/joomla-gives-university-students-around-world-opportunity-develop-core-features-upcoming-1820907.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Google Summer of Code</a>, and we expect more cutting-edge developments from those contributors in upcoming releases. Magnolia International, the company behind the <a href="http://www.magnolia-cms.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Magnolia CMS</a>, today announced record global growth figures along with news of a newly appointed Chief Financial Officer and Chief Marketing Officer.
Used in more than 100 countries across the world by governments and leading Fortune 500 enterprises, Magnolia CMS is an  Open Source, Enterprise Content Management System with rapidly growing ambitions.
From amongst Magnolia's customers include Nissan, Virgin America, Al Arabiya, Sony, Allianz, and Airbus Group.
<h2>Growth &amp; Expansion</h2>
Since 2012, Magnolia has doubled global revenue. This growth was a result of significant sales increases in all Magnolia offices. Worldwide headcount has also doubled during this period.
In 2013 alone, Magnolia's global customer base grew by 25%. The U.S. market is the fastest growing market, accounting for 30% of new licenses in 2013. U.S.-based customers include Nissan, Virgin America, Abbott Diabetes, US Navy, and Vision Service Plan.
Magnolia's revenue and client growth has spurred additional global expansion in Beijing, and satellite offices in Gothenburg and Helsinki. Office expansion and additional headcount is occurring in every office, including Miami, U.S., Madrid, Spain, and Kromeriz, Czech Republic.
Due to this record growth, Magnolia will soon run out of space in the current Basel, Switzerland headquarters. As a result, the company is building a new headquarters in Basel, with move-in scheduled summer 2015.

<h2>Executive Team Additions</h2>
To complement their impressive growth figures, Magnolia also announced key additions to the executive management team, adding a Chief Financial Officer and Chief Marketing Officer.
The two key hires were Christopher Justice coming on as the Chief Marketing Officer and Alain Kugelmann as the Chief Financial Officer.
Justice, a serial entrepreneur and advisor to multiple U.S. tech startups, has designed, developed, and marketed enterprise software and content management solutions since 1996 with Computer Associates, IBM, Vignette, and with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). He will champion Magnolia's brand through effective marketing, community management and technical communications.
Kugelmann spent the last 14 years in various financial positions with the French multinational conglomerate Alstom. At Magnolia, Kugelmann will oversee the accounting, controlling, treasury, investor relations, insurance, and tax functions.

Magnolia Adds Key Members to Executive Team & Reports Record Growth

Drupal versions 7.27 and Drupal 6.31 which now available for download, containing several fixes for security vulnerabilities.
<a href="https://drupal.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Drupal</a> is an open-source platform maintained and developed by a community of 630,000+ users and developers. The nature of Drupal's open development model means that people are constantly working to make sure Drupal is a cutting-edge platform that supports the latest technologies that the Web has to offer.
The security releases introduce small API changes which may require code updates on sites that expose Ajax or multi-step forms to anonymous users, and where the forms are displayed on pages that are cached (either by Drupal or by an external system).
Although there are no new features or non-security-related bug fixes in these releases, Drupal “strongly recommends” that users of both Drupal 7 and Drupal 6 download these security updates.

Drupal Release Versions 7.27 and 6.31 to Fix Security Vulnerabilities

<a href="http://www.nuxeo.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Nuxeo</a> have today announced the release of their latest Fast Track version of their popular content management system – Nuxeo Platform 5.9.3.
Nuxeo is an open source CMS platform used primarily by architects and developers to build, deploy, and run content-centric business applications. The Enterprise Content Management (ECM) system offered by Nuxeo allows for document management, case management, digital asset management and other applications.
With the release of version 5.9.3, Nuxeo have introduced a host of new features and enhancements for users, administrators and developers.
<h2>Elasticsearch, Collections &amp; Much More</h2>
One of the most notable features of this new Nuxeo release is the integration of <a href="http://www.elasticsearch.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Elasticsearch</a>. It brings greater scalability to the Nuxeo Platform thanks to its uses regarding document indexing as one example.
Another great addition that comes with 5.9.3 is the Collections type. A Collection is a folder-like document in which you can classify existing content. Documents are not actually copied or moved into the collection, as it only houses links to the document in its original location.
Furthermore, Nuxeo have released an <a href="http://www.nuxeo.com/blog/development/2014/03/introducing-open-source-box-api/">open-source implementation of the Box API</a> that runs on top of a Nuxeo repository. This enables the Nuxeo Box API to:
<ul>
<li>Allow developers to run “their own local Box server” using the Nuxeo Platform. This enables them to run a Box server locally, in a continuous integration chain, great for testing Box-based applications.</li>
<li>Serve customers with on premises requirements (or different cloud infrastructures).</li>
</ul>
Additional enhancements to Nuxeo include a full-screen mode, user invitations, UI tweaks and much more.

Telerik Sitefinity 7.0 Released: Delivers More Engaging Web Experiences, Productivity & Granular Control

<a href="http://automattic.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Automattic</a>, the company behind WordPress, have purchased Longreads for an undisclosed fee – according to the <a href="http://blog.longreads.com/post/longreads-is-joining-the-automattic-family/?utm_content=bufferc09b0&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Longreads blog</a>. 
 Longreads describe themselves as providing, “the best storytelling on the web”. 
The online publication offers one story per day through its website, Twitter feed, email newsletter subscription, and iPad app. These daily stories surpass 1,500 words, bringing news and editorials together from both lesser known websites and established publications. 
 With a small team of just six members shouldering their wide-ranging success, it is not entirely surprising that Longreads have now decided to join forces with a larger company. 
Founded by <a href="http://ma.tt/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Matt Mullenweg</a>, Automattic are of course well known for ventures such as WordPress, Akismet, VaultPress, Grvatar and other notable services.  
 Regarding the news, Mark Armstrong, who founded Longreads in 2009, had this to say:
