<li>TERMINALFOUR Site Manager Named SIIA Content CODiE Award Finalist for Best Content Management Platform</li>
</ul>
<h2>eForms/Self-Service &amp; User Interface</h2>
TERMINALFOUR Site Manager 7.3 was driven by direct client feedback and market demand for an out-of-the-box solution that delivers maximum online impact for minimal resources. The latest version of the release has witnessed significant progress towards greater web developer productivity with notable improvements to the user interface and self-service capabilities. An enhanced Form builder (eForms), direct edit and digital marketing tools have all received significant development. Other areas include improvements supporting responsive design and multi channel publishing, web services and email marketing, all contributing to greater ease-of-use.
In addition, there have been more enhancements to TERMINALFOUR Site Manager's integration capabilities with greater functionality added to our key integration tool ‘enterprise content syncer' (originally launched in our TERMINALFOUR Site Manager 7.2 release) and social media integration with the integrated TERMINALFOUR “social poster” allowing controlled authoring, approval and posting to social media systems such as Twitter, Facebook and other Social Media systems.
<h2>Cloud/SaaS</h2>
TERMINALFOUR Site Manager 7.3 also benefits from major performance and enterprise security features and support. A big focus was improvements to scalability and publishing performance, especially within cloud environments, and already the new release has been deployed to clients with websites with more than 1+ million web pages. The latest release also benefits from enhancements to clustering capabilities allowing for the management of some of the world’s largest websites and intranets.
<h2>Migration</h2>
There are also significant improvements to auto migration features including a highly configurable HTML importer. This powerful feature allows clients to quickly migrate their existing website into TERMINALFOUR Site Manager, from either static websites or legacy web content management solutions. More than 60% of TERMINALFOUR's new business in the past twelve months has involved migrations from other WCM systems. The list of other CMS systems the company has migrated from has risen to more than fifteen and includes Interwoven, Vignette, OpenText, Immediacy, Iron Point, Squiz, Drupal and Documentum.
Piero Tintori, CEO and Founder, TERMINALFOUR said, “TERMINALFOUR Site Manager 7.3 is internally called our ‘championing the web developer' release. The focus was to enhance developer productivity and enable them to do big things with minimal resources. We believe we've delivered on these objectives resulting in a system that's a tour de force in the web content management market.”

DotNetNuke Corp. (DNN) today announced the beta availability of its Extension Verification Service (EVS).  This new offering will empower all developers with a simple, easy-to-use service to test the compatibility of their extensions with different DNN versions and give buyers the ability to more quickly identify which are usable with their platform.  Extensions can be in the form of an Authentication System Container, Dashboard Control, Language Pack (Core Language Pack or Extension Language Pack), Library, Module, Provider, Skin, Skin Object, Widget or any combination of the aforementioned that add new levels of customization to a website. Developers will also be provided with relevant guidance so errors can be quickly pinpointed and corrections easily made, thereby simplifying the advantage of DNN’s extreme extensibility.
“As a Gold Certified partner and provider of DNN modules and websites, we already see the immense value DNN brings to our business – especially in regards to its popular DNN Store.  With EVS, we are able to improve the calibre of our products in an automated fashion, while affording customers greater confidence in the quality of their purchases,” said Chris Risner, CEO of PackFlash and founding partner of BlueBolt Solutions. “Most importantly, we truly anticipate that DNN’s EVS will help boost both sales and satisfaction of our products.  This is yet another move from DNN that helps simplify my experience and the experiences of my customers.”
As a cloud-based service, EVS simplifies verification testing for DNN modules, skins and more by testing minimum version compatibility with DNN and Windows Azure SQL Database. It also checks that extensions are properly built and packaged correctly, saving developers valuable time and providing buyers with clearer guidance regarding DNN platform version compatibility.
EVS is useful to all extension developers, including vendors who sell products through the DNN Store, a consultant, or corporate developer and includes capabilities suited to the type of extension being created.  The service helps to ensure compatibility and quality of extensions with the different DNN platforms available today. Users of the Enterprise, Professional and Community editions can also leverage EVS free of charge and have the ability to upload any number of extensions for testing or re-testing. Users will see results displayed immediately, adding to the value and simplicity of the service.  For future reference, results can also be downloaded or emailed to the user in three separate file formats including CVS, XLS, and XML.
<blockquote>
“Extensibility is a hallmark of the DotNetNuke platform, so being able to test compatibility increases quality, reliability and provides a measure of future-proofing,” said Shaun Walker, CTO and co-founder of DotNetNuke. “Use of the service to evaluate packages, check assemblies, and report incompatibilities is amazingly simple!”
</blockquote>
Interested parties can register for the EVS beta here: <a href="http://evs.dotnetnuke.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">//evs.dotnetnuke.com</a>. DNN would also appreciate tester feedback at <a href="http://bit.ly/evsfeedback" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">//bit.ly/evsfeedback.</a>

<a href="http://www.reallysimplesystems.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Really Simple Systems</a> has announced the extension of its Free Edition. The Cloud CRM vendor will be offering their mobile CRM and the ability to integrate with Kashflow accounting software for free. These features are currently chargeable but will now be included in Really Simple Systems’ Free Edition, allowing customers to get more from their CRM system.
John Paterson, CEO, Really Simple Systems, comments, “As cloud systems continue to go mainstream, and vendors as well as customers reap the benefits of economies of scale, we expect prices to continue to fall for commodity systems like accounting and CRM, as well as office and email systems.”
He continues, “We are very excited to be offering these new features as part of our free edition. We'd rather get customers using these features and our CRM than ’nickel and dime’ them for small amounts.”
Really Simple Systems’ Free Edition is a free version of the vendor’s flagship product that gives users the software and hosting for a two-user sales system free of charge, forever. Augmenting the offering with these two latest features is part of the company’s strategy to be the largest global CRM vendor in terms of users in the next three years. Existing Premium Edition customers who currently pay for these additional features will automatically no longer be billed for them. Offering these services free of charge will allow Really Simple Systems to continue its reputation for great value for money, excellent service and continued growth.
John Paterson concludes, “Cloud Computing offers customers a radical new way to buy sophisticated applications at a low cost. <a href="http://www.sourcefabric.org/en/newscoop/">Newscoop</a> 4.0.4 follows hot on the heels of the latest Newscoop upgrade to improve comment management for sites whose community contributes a large amount of comments. Flagged by Newscoop users Brasil 247 (55 million page views per month and counting!), we fixed this issue and improved the way Newscoop handles dependencies.
We improved comment management hugely in Newscoop 4 as part of our drive to make Newscoop better for building communities around news. However when faced with a lot of comments, journalists noticed that they experienced a problem loading the edit screen for articles.
With this latest Newscoop release there has been an improvement to this section allowing users to load more comments with a simple pagination function. The “Show more comments” button makes it much easier to read and navigate feedback from readers.
Alongside this new feature, there were a number of bug fixes related to the upgrade from the previous version, plus improvement of library handling with the use of Composer (a very cool dependency manager for PHP).
Bug fixes include…
<ul>
<li>Improved 3rd party library management by using Composer</li>
<li>Removed handling of include_path from application.php</li>
<li>Removed unnecessary use of spl auto-loading from create_themes.php upgrade script</li>
<li>Various exciting maintenance tasks</li>
<li>Some missing strings in user management mainly have been added to the localizer</li>
</ul>
What was new in Newscoop 4?
Back in April we published <a href="http://www.sourcefabric.org/en/community/blog/1199/Your-guide-to-what's-new-in-Newscoop-4.htm">this series of screencasts</a> outlining the major features in Newscoop 4. New features for this series included an overhauled media archive, drag-and-drop front page management, intelligent image renditions, Dynamic Maps and numerous citizen journalist and community management tools.

What's ahead for Open Source CMS?

#ffffff

Simply put, I review a LOT of content management systems. So many, in fact, that I often am asked how I manage to stay focused enough to not lose interest in what I do. Let me tell you, it's not easy. One of the things that I have begun to pay attention to is my initial reactions when I first log into the administration interface for a CMS I'm reviewing. Specifically, I try to pay attention to any feelings that might overtake me as I look at what I'm being presented and, more often than I'd like, one of those feelings is that of being overwhelmed and a feeling of instant frustration. Why? Due to feature overload and duplication.
Let's explore this shall we?
I had a conversation recently with someone I have developed quite a bit of respect for, a gentleman by the name of Dragan Marjanovic, who resides here in Edmonton and works in the CMS industry. Dragan and I have discovered that we both have similar belief systems when it comes to how a CMS should be designed and developed and we had an interesting conversation about his battle, as a business owner, to steer his developers away from adding multiple methods of accomplishing a single task within his CMS.
The logic, for a developer, is simple. You need a feature, so I added it. Here's a new button for it. Now it works.
The problem, however, is that developers are technical individuals who have no problem navigating these complex interfaces. They also have no problem with technical manuals and documentation whereas end users nowadays, however, are much less technically inclined. So it then becomes the burden of the “person with the vision” to help simplify and standardize their system so that the experience is a pleasant one for non-technical users. It's a daunting task for sure.
<h2>Why is feature duplication such a bad thing?</h2>
Let's take the ever popular iOS platform for an example.
On your iPad, iPhone or iPod, there is one way to open an app, you click on the square. To close the app, you click on the home button and the app goes away. It's simple (for some, too simple) but it's effective and if I was asked to recommend a system to someone who has never used a tablet or smart phone before, i wouldn't hesitate to point at an Apple device because I know the learning curve is minimal. I can hand one to my grandfather or mother and know that they will get it far faster than if I handed them a device with a hundred ways to do those same tasks. Why? It's due to the fact that people want to feel that they get it. They don't want to be overwhelmed with 100 different ways to accomplish something, they want it to work. They want to get the job done and while Apple, for some, might not be their favorite company, you have to give them credit for “getting” how to establish a solid customer experience.
This same logic applies to content management systems. If I log into your system and I see a dashboard that has thousands of links and tabs with dropdowns and buttons everywhere, I tend to get overwhelmed almost immediately  Is it because I don't think I can use it? No. The chances are, I can figure it out just fine, but I'm a technical person so I'm good at discovering how things are done. For those less technical people, the ones who'll most likely be using your CMS, that's not necessarily the case.
It's not just duplication that's a problem, however, it's also feature overload. If you are the person that makes the final say before your product is shipped, it's your responsibility to the end user to ensure that you really understand what type of product you are trying to sell them. Are you developing a CMS or an Experience? If the former, then by all means, go ahead and add as many buttons as you want and watch your sales drop. If the latter, then you need to consider what type of experience you are selling. The reason I am calling this an experience is simply because there are hundreds, nay thousands, of content management systems on the market and, for the most part, they all do pretty much the same things. What separates the good from the bad, however, is how they do it.
Look at WordPress as an example. It's a blog platform primarily but because it's been designed to be streamlined, logical, friendly and “just work”, people have taken it to a level far exceeding that which it was originally intended for. It's now turned into a pretty solid CMS. Sure, it can't do your taxes or invoicing (yet) but with WordPress, it's about the experience and making it as easy as possible. Want to add a tweet to a post? Paste in the URL of the tweet and you are done. Need to share a YouTube video? Paste in the link and it's sized and embedded automatically. Want to add a post? There's only one way to do it, click add new post. Are you catching my drift?
In a nutshell what I'm getting at is this, in it's simplest form, “Feature overload and feature duplication are bad”.
If you are looking to get a piece of this market, you need to stop thinking like a developer, start thinking like a creator and stop selling a product. Sell an experience. Think of your target audience and make it the product cater to them. Don't try to make the audience cater to the product because you will not succeed. You will simply create frustration and eventually, drive your customer away.
And that ladies and gentlemen, is my rant for today. What are your thoughts?

About SetSeed
Developed in England by Ben Vallack, SetSeed is a Content Management System for web professionals that simplifies the process of building CMS-powered websites for their clients. By providing a robust system with a clear distinction between content and style, it solves the age-old problem of clients breaking a site's design when editing their content.

SetSeed is fully featured out of the box so developers don't need to worry about installing, debugging and updating plugins just to create a standard website. SetSeed websites can include features like a full shop with stock control, a blog, images galleries, contact forms, video, calendars, email newsletter, live chat, multiple languages, password protection and much more. SetSeed CMS Launches New Hosted Cloud Solution Built on Standing Cloud Platform

Hippo today announced the launch of Hippo CMS 7.8 and its new Relevance Module. As the first open source CMS to address delivering customer engagement, Hippo puts marketers in charge of creating and maintaining contextualized experiences across the customer journey covering web, mobile and social channels.
Hippo CMS 7.8 actually makes targeting usable to the marketer by delivering a solution that is comprehensive, easy to use and easy to maintain.
Comprehensive. Hippo CMS 7.8 utilizes progressive profiling to contextualize all stages of the customer journey:
<ul>
<li>Persona. Marketing teams that are using personas can aggregate visitor characteristics and segments to define personas from within the CMS. These personas can be used to individualize in addition to situational context also through behavioral targeting, taking interest and engagement levels into account. Hippo Personas are dynamic to accommodate different modes a visitor might be in when interacting with digital properties.</li>
<li>Personal History. Organizations which have a known or authenticated audience can target in addition to the above also based on explicit information from third party solutions, such as CRM systems or transactional systems like eCommerce or booking engines. Marketers can hereby combine personalization and targeting techniques into one personal  and relevant experience.</li>
<li>Situation. Hippo CMS brings relevance from the first click by giving marketers the power to target content and banners based on context, session and device information. Amongst these capabilities are targeting based on geo-targeting, targeting based on time and day, referral information, search keywords, new vs. returning visitor.</li>
</ul>
Hippo’s open platform allows marketers to tap into 3rd party data sources to create personas and targeting rules. The real-time visitor analysis gives marketers insight into actual customer journeys of real visitors and is a powerful dashboard to discover and adjust these personas.
<blockquote>
“The targeting capabilities of our new Relevance Module give our clients the means to have continuously meaningful conversations with their customers to drive engagement, loyalty and ultimately revenues,” says Arjé Cahn, CTO and Founder.
</blockquote>
Easy to use and maintain. Hippo CMS 7.8 gives marketers the control over targeting configuration and persona definition for web, mobile and social channels. In the intuitive Channel Manager, marketers define variants for widgets or content components depending on customer characteristics or persona in every channel. In a preview environment, marketers can then create an alter ego to experience their sites as a persona or individual customer would.
Hippo’s content centric philosophy is already a core strength behind Hippo’s advanced multichannel capabilities and now also drives the ease of maintenance for the Hippo Relevance Module: Marketers manage targeting in a few templates rather than on every single page in every single channel. This brings significant efficiency improvements and faster time to market for new initiatives.
Next to targeting capabilities, Hippo CMS 7.8 brings extended support for DTAP processes and CMS usability improvements. Customers will also benefit from performance improvements and advanced caching mechanisms that have been optimized to cater for the targeting capabilities.

Sitecore has announced availability of a new application. The HiSoftware Compliance Sheriff App scans content for privacy, accessibility and website quality issues prior to publishing and reports on violations to ensure compliance with regulatory and other internal policies. By adding this application to Sitecore’s Customer Engagement Platform, organizations can reduce the risk of litigation, fines and penalties, and ensure digital content is in line with privacy guidelines.
Available through the Sitecore App Center – an online marketplace of pre-integrated, on-demand applications, services, and integration solutions developed for Sitecore’s Customer Engagement Platform – Sitecore provides enhanced compliance capabilities that validate web content and applications against standards-based and organization-specific policies for accessibility and privacy. HiSoftware Compliance Sheriff for Sitecore App Center is based on technology from HiSoftware, a leading developer of content-aware compliance and security software.
“The increase of information and transactions on websites and intranets has helped to streamline processes and achieve economies of scale,” said Kurt Mueffelmann, president and chief executive officer, HiSoftware. “However, maintaining compliance of online content is a perpetual risk that escalates as organizations empower more people to post content at a faster rate. With so much information being made available online, the business risk associated with poor compliance is high, and growing. Companies must adopt a comprehensive approach to address content compliance and mitigate risk.”
The HiSoftware Compliance Sheriff App allows organizations to scan content on-demand in Sitecore to ensure compliance with over 75 pre-defined checkpoints built-into the app, including pre-defined checkpoint groups for WCAG 2.0, and select privacy and site quality checks.
The HiSoftware App provides easy to select and configure tests against pre-defined policies – eliminating the need for costly consulting and/or programming resources.
