SubHub Lite is a new SaaS web CMS which launched on November 1st.
SubHub Lite is built on the latest release of Drupal 7, with a unique admin layer, site builder, design themes and apps (drag and drop functionality). As a hosted platform there's nothing to download to upgrade.
SubHub Lite has been built around the concept of outstanding ease of use.
So many content management systems / platforms have been built with the assumption that their users will have a certain level of technical expertise. This ignores a lot of people who would like to build and manage their own website, but are clueless about how to install plugins and modules, add design themes and generally customize things.
SubHub Lite embraces any kind of user and make it as easy to set up and manage a website, even if you're not particularly technically minded.
From an easy to use site builder, to the use of drag and drop apps and simple design tools, the SubHub team have tried to make their Lite platform as intuitive to use as possible.
Currently, users can add apps to their pages for YouTube, Twitter, Disqus, Flickr and MailChimp. Over the coming weeks and months they'll be adding new apps on a continuous basis. These will include store apps, subscription apps, ad-serving apps, video CDN apps and a lot more besides.
SubHub Lite is currently completely free. In the coming months however optional premium apps will be made available through the SubHub Lite app store. The opportunity will also be made available for developers and designers to build their own apps and design themes, which they can either make available to users for free or at a charge.

<a href="http://www.fatwire.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">FatWire Software</a>, the largest independent provider of Web Experience Management (WEM) solutions, today announced the availability of the next-generation of its FatWire Mobility Server product.  The solution gives organizations the power to easily mobile-enable their web presence by reusing website content to create optimized mobile web experiences across devices.  The FatWire Mobility Server enables organizations to incorporate the mobile channel as a key component of their marketing and customer experience initiatives.
Increasingly, customers are accessing the web via mobile devices and thus the mobile web has become a critical touch point for businesses to reach customers and prospects.  Websites viewed on mobile devices like the BlackBerry, iPhone, iPad and Android, not to mention thousands of other mobile device types, have become critical competitive differentiators.  Like the traditional web, the mobile web is not only essential for delivering product and service information, but also for fostering deeper, richer customer engagement.
“With the explosive growth in mobile web connectivity, the mobile web has become an essential tool for organizations,” said Kathleen Reidy, senior analyst at The 451 Group. “A mobile web presence that is rich, engaging and efficiently managed will be a significant driver of a positive customer experience, and successful business initiatives.”
Traditionally, deploying and managing mobile websites has been wrought with difficulty and expense due to the large number of different mobile devices, and the difficulty of creating and maintaining multiple versions of the same site for each device type.  FatWire Mobility Server eliminates this pain by enabling organizations to build and manage their site in a single place for deployment across thousands of mobile device types.
Using FatWire Mobility Server, organizations can:
<ul>
<li>Easily build a mobile web presence. Content from traditional websites can be easily repurposed for the mobile channel.  Navigation structures from the traditional site can be edited and repurposed for mobile websites. Out-of-the-box mobile webpage templates enable fast, easy creation of mobile sites.</li>
<li>Edit content from one user interface. A central user interface for managing the traditional website and mobile websites enables great efficiencies by eliminating the need to build, format and maintain individual mobile applications or websites for different devices.</li>
<li>Preview mobile sites in-context. In-context preview of what the site will look like on different mobile device types enables easy management of mobile website content.</li>
<li>Offer location-based services. FatWire Mobility Server makes use of device GPS data to deliver location-based content and services to mobile website visitors. </li>
<li>Optimize websites automatically for thousands of different mobile devices. Automatic reformatting of existing website content, including video and rich media, makes it easy to optimize content for display on every type of mobile handset.</li>
<li>Enable a social mobile web experience. FatWire Mobility Server enables organizations to easily mobile-enable user-generated content and other social features </li>
</ul>
“Delivering on today’s high expectations for mobile web interactions across a wide range of mobile devices is proving to be too complex, costly and inefficient for organizations,” said Yogesh Gupta, president and CEO of FatWire Software.  “Organizations today need a centralized online strategy to manage both the traditional and mobile web channels from a single platform.  FatWire Mobility Server is the right solution for delivering a rich cross-channel experience, and doing so extremely efficiently.”
FatWire’s Web Experience Management suite enables enterprises to offer an engaging online customer experience.  The FatWire WEM suite is a scalable platform for enterprises to author and design websites, target and optimize content for specific audiences, deploy sites in multiple languages, offer social computing features including gadgets and user-generated content, and more.  FatWire Mobility Server is the key component of the FatWire solution set enabling websites to be deployed to the mobile channel.

OpenCMS Days 2011 scheduled

Joomla (<a href="http://www.joomla.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">http://www.joomla.org</a>), the world’s most popular open source CMS (content management system), today announced the immediate availability of Joomla 1.6. Users will be able to download the latest version effective this evening from the Joomla website. Designed to offer enhanced site control and a more polished user experience, Joomla 1.6 delivers a variety of new tools to improve website management and access, a more robust organizational structure for content control, and various other user-experience improvements throughout the software. “With new features and capabilities such as the hierarchical design of the access control system, semantic XHTML layouts, one-click extension updates and multi-language functionality, Joomla 1.6 has evolved to become the most user-friendly and powerful tool to develop a web presence,” said Ryan Ozimek, president of Open Source Matters, a not-for-profit created to provide organization, legal, and financial support to the Joomla project. “This has been accomplished through the tireless feedback and work on 1.6 by the thousands of members of the Joomla community over the past year.” Joomla’s ease-of-use and extensibility has made it the most popular and downloaded open source website software in the industry today (it has been downloaded more than 22 million times). It is used for everything from small personal websites to the backend management for some of the largest enterprises and highest traffic sites on the Web, including sites operated by Citibank, eBay, General Electric, Harvard University, Ikea, McDonald’s and <a href="http://community.joomla.org/labels/joomla-portfolio.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">many more</a>. Key Features in Joomla 1.6: ·    New Access Control System – Allows site administrators control over who can view and manage content. ·    Unlimited Depth Organizational Model – Gives site administrators and content creators user-defined category levels that allow for the creation of a category tree with as many or as few levels for organizing articles and other content as needed. ·    One-Click Extension Updates – Allows users to keep sites secure and controlled by simplifying the process of updating extensions. ·      Semantic XHTML Layouts – Provides a better baseline for content presentation. ·      Multi-language Functionality – Allows site builders to implement a multi-language site. In addition, developers and implementers will enjoy the new ability Joomla 1.6 provides in allowing extensions to be built with granular control and permissions. This makes it easier to create more advanced, enterprise-focused applications and extensions for Joomla. Furthermore, there are numerous improvements in areas like code reuse, and considerable success in ensuring the stability of application programming interfaces via unit testing. “The current Joomla Platform provides developers with the tools they need to rapidly build the Web of the future,” said Ron Severdia, a member of the Joomla production leadership team. “Although 1.6 is being released today, the Joomla production team is not resting on its laurels. We're hard at work developing even more powerful Joomla features for the future, such as new search capabilities and new ways to leverage website content.” Visit <a href="http://www.joomla.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">http://www.joomla.org</a> to download Joomla 1.6 today. About Joomla! Joomla is the world’s most popular open source CMS (content management system). With 2.5 percent of the web running on Joomla, the software is used by individuals, small and medium-sized businesses, and large organizations worldwide to easily create and build a variety of websites and web-enabled applications. Due to its power and elegance, it can be used by the most inexperienced user to the most seasoned web developer. From the announcement:
<blockquote>
Since the last release candidate a week ago, we have fixed numerous bugs, including bugs with PostgreSQL and a critical issue with the password upgrade path which corrupts password hashes. Affected sites' users will need to reset passwords after their second log-in. Sorry about that!
For the full list of changes, see the <a href="http://drupal.org/node/1010382" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">release notes</a>.

Drupal 7.0 RC 4 Released

Some updates from the Geeklog universe:
Geeklog 1.7.1sr1 addresses an XSS in the Configuration admin panel, reported by Aung Khant of the YGN Ethical Hacker Group. Due to the built-in CSRF protection this weakness is somewhat harder to exploit but we would nonetheless advise that you secure your site by installing this update ASAP.
In addition to the <a href="http://www.geeklog.net/filemgmt/index.php/1044">complete 1.7.1sr1 tarball</a>, there are also update files <a href="http://www.geeklog.net/filemgmt/index.php/1043">for Geeklog 1.7.1</a> and <a href="http://www.geeklog.net/filemgmt/index.php/1042">for Geeklog 1.6.1sr1</a> that contain only a fixed version of the affected file (see the included README file for installation instructions).
Users of older Geeklog releases should consider upgrading to Geeklog 1.7.1sr1 soon (use the complete 1.7.1sr1 tarball to upgrade from any older version).
A note for those who are still running on PHP 4: There's a <a href="http://project.geeklog.net/tracking/view.php?id=1239">known bug</a> in the Static Pages plugin in Geeklog 1.7.1 that makes it incompatible with PHP 4. We will address this issue in <a href="http://www.geeklog.net/article.php/end-of-php4-support#releases">a future bugfix</a> update. In the meantime, consider upgrading to Geeklog 1.6.1sr2 – or upgrade to PHP 5, if possible.

The first release candidate (RC1) for WordPress 3.1 is now available.
An RC comes after the beta period and before final release. There are currently no known issues or bugs to squash. But with tens of millions of users, a variety of configurations, and thousands of plugins, it’s possible something has been missed. So if you haven’t tested WordPress 3.1 yet, now is the time! Please though, not on your live site unless you’re extra adventurous.
Things to keep in mind:
<ul>
<li>With nearly 700 tickets closed, there are tons of changes. Plugin and theme authors, please test your plugins and themes now, so that if there is a compatibility issue, they can figure it out before the final release.</li>
<li>Users are also encouraged to test things out. If you find problems, let your plugin/theme authors know so they can figure out the cause.</li>
<li>If any known issues crop up, you’ll be able to <a href="http://core.trac.wordpress.org/report/5" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">find them here</a>.</li>
</ul>
If you are testing the release candidate and think you’ve found a bug, there are a few ways to let us know:
<ul>
<li>Post it to the <a href="http://wordpress.org/support/forum/alphabeta/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Alpha/Beta area in the support forums</a></li>
<li>Report it to the <a href="http://lists.automattic.com/mailman/listinfo/wp-testers" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">wp-testers mailing list</a></li>
<li>Join the development IRC channel and tell us live at irc.freenode.net #wordpress-dev</li>
<li>File a bug ticket on the <a href="http://core.trac.wordpress.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">WordPress Trac</a></li>
</ul>

Or you can <a href="http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.1-RC1.zip" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">download the release candidate here</a> (zip).

WordPress 3.1 Release Candidate

Matt Mullenweg has written a new post declaring the latest update of WordPress critical and highly recommending everyone update immediately.
From the post:
<blockquote>
Version 3.0.4 of WordPress, available immediately through the update page in your dashboard or <a href="http://wordpress.org/download/">for download here</a>, is a very important update to apply to your sites as soon as possible because it fixes a core security bug in our HTML sanitation library, called KSES. I would rate this release as “critical.”
I realize an update during the holidays is no fun, but this one is worth putting down the eggnog for. In the spirit of the holidays, consider helping your friends as well.
If you are a security researcher, we’d appreciate you <a href="http://core.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/17172/branches/3.0">taking a look over this changeset</a> as well to review our update.

New ExpressionEngine security update released

It’s that time of the year when analysts, pundits, and vendors announce their bold predictions for the upcoming year. 2010 was a banner year for Web CMS, as companies realized the benefit of integrating Web CMS into critical business processes like marketing, sales, and customer support. Corporate websites took a giant leap forward, evolving from static to dynamic, and from generic to personal. The explosive growth of mobile devices in new form factors like the iPad caused CMOs to rethink their mobile strategies.
So let’s get started with my ten predictions for Web CMS in 2011:
1) WEM, the acronym, will remain vendor jargon. WEM, the concept, will transform the future of Web CMS.
WEM, or Web Engagement Management (or is it Web Experience Management?) has emerged as a potential challenger to replace CMS as the acronym that describes how companies use content to drive site visitor engagement and deliver business outcomes. Although WEM has been heavily discussed and debated among analysts and journalists, it remains a mystery to the only audience that matters- the users and buyers of Web CMS. While the capabilities described by WEM are paramount to the future of Web CMS, buyers will reject WEM the acronym but will come to expect that the existing acronyms WCM and CMS will include the capabilities of delivering and measuring site customer engagement.
2) Companies will evolve their mobile strategy beyond “mobile friendly”.
2010 was the year where mobile devices finally drove enough site traffic to compel companies to craft a mobile strategy. Yet most organizations stopped at mobile friendly, assuming the battle was over once the website and marketing campaigns rendered correctly on mobile devices. In 2011, we’ll see marketers take advantage of device capabilities and characteristics to deliver mobile experiences, not mobile friendly websites. Users are open to more immersive experiences on tablets but will look for more transactional experiences on smartphones. Mobile development will no longer be an afterthought, and innovative companies will develop for mobile first, and progressively enhance the experience based on the capabilities of the browser or device.
3) Web CMS vendors will differentiate through their decisions to build vs. integrate.
The decision to “build vs. integrate” has become a battleground for vendors trying to establish unique identities in the Web CMS space. Some vendors are focused on creating all-encompassing suites of capabilities, while others are more focused on integration with existing business applications. In 2011, vendor strategies will diverge even more strongly in this area, with vendors picking sides and aggressively committing to their strategy. For those vendors that choose to integrate, their success will be predicated on their ability to deliver deep technology integrations, not the fluffy “press release integrations” of the past.
4) Content is king. Context is queen. Together, they rule the fiefdom of web engagement.
It’s long been said the content is king, and as marketing shifts from outbound to inbound, content has evolved into a strategic corporate asset. While context is king, context is its queen. Context provides an understanding of the content consumer, and her unique set of circumstances. With context, you can match the right content, at the right moment of opportunity to encourage, support, or persuade the visitor to take action. In 2011, being able to understand the context of site visitors will transform how organizations view Web CMS and dynamic content delivery.
5) Web CMS acquisition fever will slow down, or maybe even stop.
The last five years have seen transformative acquisitions in the Web CMS vendor landscape. Oracle bought Stellent. Open Text acquired RedDot. Autonomy purchased Interwoven. Open Text bought Vignette. And most recently, Adobe acquired Day Software. In 2011, the acquisition fever will slow down as the remaining best-of-breed vendors focus on growth and differentiation in the next wave of Web CMS.
6) Multichannel publishing will drive a resurgence in structured content authoring
While newer authoring interfaces like in-context editing and drag+drop page creation have emerged as important tools for Web CMS users, the need for multichannel publishing will push users back towards more traditional, structured authoring interfaces. Publishing to multiple channels requires additional structure to ensure the right content is delivered to the right channel. Users will tag content for usage in specific channels, ranging from traditional long-form channels like the desktop web browser to short form channels like mobile devices and Twitter.
7) Platform will become less important in the Web CMS selection process
In the past, companies would have a strong preference for platform when selecting a Web CMS platform, typically Java or .NET in the enterprise. The platform requirement will become less of a decision point as the viral growth of Sharepoint created .NET expertise in even the most formidable Java strongholds like financial services and insurance. While some companies will still prefer a particular platform, it will become increasingly less important in 2011. Buyers will pick the products that best fit their business and technical requirements, regardless of platform.
8) Enterprise search is sexy again
Search and Web CMS have always enjoyed a symbiotic relationship, and the relationship will grow deeper in 2011. Enterprise search platforms provided by vendors like Microsoft, Endeca, and Autonomy do far more than just keyword searches. They power mission critical business processes like commerce and customer support, and play a significant role in the overall customer experience of a website. Search is an important part of a customer engagement strategy, and Web CMS vendors will use enterprise search platforms to provide new sets of capabilities focused on engagement and experience.
9) Social media will permeate the corporate website
The website of the future will be a seamless blend of corporate generated and user generated content. Social is no longer just a disconnected feature of a website, it's a fundamental shift in how companies embrace customer relationships, transparency, and authenticity. In 2011, we’ll finally start to see companies and brands adopt the principals outlined by Jeremiah Owyang in his 2007 blog how on How to Evolve Your Irrelevant Corporate Website (http://www.web-strategist.com/blog/2007/05/29/web-strategy-how-to-evolve-your-irrelevant-corporate-website/).
10) Developers. Developers. Developers.
Web CMS vendors have spent the last few years catering to marketing departments and business users, addressing usability and innovating new ways to use Web CMS to run marketing campaigns. Web CMS vendors will place the same emphasis on transforming the developer experience, providing better tools, APIs, code samples, documentation, and more.
So those are my predictions for 2011. 2010 was a great year for Web CMS, and I think we’ll look back and identify 2010 as an inflection point in the market, driven by both the emergence of web engagement and the growth of new channels like mobile and social media. Please share your thoughts and predictions in the comments, or on Twitter using the hashtag #futurewcm.
