Nuxeo Expands Global Team With Addition of Cheryl McKinnon as Chief Marketing Officer
Open Source Enterprise Content Management Pioneer Kicks Off Aggressive Staff Recruitment Program.
<a href="http://www.nuxeo.com">Nuxeo</a>, a leading provider of open source Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software and services, today announced Cheryl McKinnon as Chief Marketing Officer.
McKinnon brings to Nuxeo more than 16+ years of related industry experience. This key hire is the first of at least 15 new positions announced to accelerate sales, product development, and engineering capacity in both Boston and Paris.
“This is an extremely disruptive time in content management in part because of the tremendous ability of open source to drive rapid innovation. Open source allows vendors, customers and partners to work together to bring better solutions to the market faster,” said McKinnon.
“My move into the open source segment of the ECM market is the next logical step for me. Customers are under pressure to derive value from technology investments at an unprecedented rate. Content management is no longer a frill in today's knowledge economy — it's core to business. Nuxeo's open source ECM platform lets customers focus on their business, invest their limited resources to get their requirements met quickly and efficiently.
Nuxeo ECM is easily tailored to their needs without any obligation to purchase and adopt non-essential extras. I'm excited to be part of Nuxeo as they embark on a global expansion and hiring program. Working with a seasoned management team, we'll help Nuxeo customers become lean, competitive leaders in their own knowledge-economy industries.”
Most recently, McKinnon was Director, Program Management – Enterprise 2.0 at Open Text, an enterprise software company and leader in enterprise content management. She also oversaw the company's collaboration content management and flagship ECM products.
Prior to Open Text, McKinnon worked at Hummingbird, which Open Text later acquired, and PC DOCS. “Cheryl has a broad spectrum of ECM experience and is a superb marketer, strategist, trend spotter and evangelist, which makes her the perfect match for Nuxeo at this point in our growth,” said CEO Eric Barroca.
“Nuxeo's open source technology has a deep feature set and rich functionality that rivals far costlier, cumbersome and complex proprietary ECM systems. With 350+ customers, tens of thousand of downloads, nearly 65 percent of sales outside of France, and a strong demand from the North American market, Cheryl will be instrumental in helping Nuxeo evolve into a global force.”
McKinnon is actively involved with key industry associations such as AIIM and ARMA. She is a noted speaker, having presented at events throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, and published thought-leader on topics such as information governance, compliance in the era of Web. 2.0, demographic shifts in the online workplace, and unique information management needs of public sector. McKinnon holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Winnipeg, Master of Arts from Carleton University and has completed required coursework towards a PhD at the University of Ottawa.

Nuxeo Hires Ex Open Texter for CMO Role

Price and security are not considered important for a CMS.
The features offered and ease of use are what customers hold in highest regard when looking to purchase a content management system (CMS), but surprisingly, price and security are not considered particularly important factors, according to new findings released today.
The CMS buying poll, carried out by web design consultancy and CMS provider, <a href="http://www.webcredible.co.uk/">Webcredible</a>, revealed that the practical aspects of a CMS were by far the most important to potential buyers, with almost half of respondents identifying functionality/feature set (22 per cent) or ease of use (21 per cent) as the key factor in a purchase.
In addition, 16 per cent of respondents said that the ability to customise the functionality of a CMS was the key consideration when making a purchase, largely because customisation is identified as critical to longevity.
The research also revealed that despite the current price and online security-conscious environment, price and security were not seen as important in a CMS purchase with eight per cent and five per cent respectively, identifying them as the key factor.
With thousands of different CMS products available for both web and internal content and for businesses ranging from small to medium-sized to large enterprises, there are hundreds of brands active within the CMS marketplace.
However, the findings surprisingly revealed that brand name is a reasonably important consideration in a CMS purchase, with 13 per cent of respondents identifying it as the most important factor.
The research polled more than 1,000 online users between June and September 2009 on what would be the key factor in purchasing a content management system.
After features, ease of use, ability to customise and brand name, the license – whether open source or proprietary – was identified as the next most important consideration in a CMS purchase with nine per cent of respondents choosing this.
In addition, just one per cent of respondents identified the support on offer as the key factor and five per cent said that none of these would be the key factors when purchasing a CMS, citing factors such as working in all browsers, and providing correct HTML code as important.
Trenton Moss, Director at Webcredible comments, “The CMS market is one that crosses numerous sectors and business sizes and it seems that because of this diverse target market, the practical aspects of a product are crucial. The features on offer and the ease of use of a CMS are the most important considerations largely because the features are key to fulfilling user needs and an easy to use product can be used by somebody who is not particularly technically minded, which may be needed particularly in smaller businesses.
It is however, surprising that price and security are not considered particularly important with a CMS, especially in a time where many companies budgets are being squeezed and online vulnerabilities and attacks are still rife.”
This CMS buying research polled 1,021 visitors to the Webcredible website between June and September 2009.

Functionality and ease of use are key factors in content management system purchases

CMS Market today released the first version of UShorten, the automatic shortlink generator for Joomla! This release brings features similar to other major CMS's like WordPress and Drupal allowing any Joomla site to create and publish unique shortlink URLs for each page on their site.
Generation of shortlink's is fully configurable with different parameters for the length of shortlink, base domain– which allows for redirects from even shorter domain names, and allowed character-set.
Standard features include the insertion of the rel=”shortlink” tag on all pages for which a shortlink is available. Advanced configuration options allow for preventing shortlink generation based on their long URL or Joomla! component as well as reserving shortlink names for later use (faq, news, etc). Additionally, basic hit-tracking is included for monitoring usage of shortlink URLs.

In reponse to a security threat that allowed potential attackers to bypass a security check to verify a user requested a password reset, the WordPress team has announced a new release.
<a href="http://wordpress.org/development/2009/08/2-8-4-security-release/">WordPress</a> 2.8.4 is a security update to address this threat and keep the popular open source blog software free of security risks.
From the release:
<div class="storycontent">
“Yesterday a vulnerability was discovered: a specially crafted URL could be requested that would allow an attacker to bypass a security check to verify a user requested a password reset. As a result, the first account without a key in the database (usually the admin account) would have its password reset and a new password would be emailed to the account owner. This doesn’t allow remote access, but it is very annoying.
We fixed this problem last night and have been testing the fixes and looking for other problems since then. <a href="http://wordpress.org/download/">Version 2.8.4 which fixes all known problems is now available for download</a> and is highly recommended for all users of WordPress.”
