<a href="https://www.hyland.com/en">Hyland</a>, an enterprise content management (ECM) and process management provider, has <a href="https://news.hyland.com/hyland-enters-into-agreement-for-the-acquisition-of-nuxeo">signed an agreement</a> providing for exclusive negotiations to acquire <a href="https://www.nuxeo.com/">Nuxeo</a> – a content services and digital asset management (DAM) platform.
A leading ECM provider, Hyland is best known for its <a href="https://www.onbase.com/en">Onbase</a> and <a href="https://www.hyland.com/en/perceptive">Perceptive</a> content management products, which securely centralize enterprise content and deliver relevant information to users across a wide variety of industries – including healthcare, finance, insurance, higher education, and manufacturing.
Nuxeo offers a cloud-native, open-source, low-code platform with content services and DAM capabilities, among others.

Following suit with many other CMS and DXP platforms in the last year, Hyland <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/hyland-acquires-alfresco-focuses-on-cloud-and-global-expansion-of-enterprise-cms/">acquired Alfresco</a> in 2020, eliminating their next closest competitor and changing the game in the leadership grid.
While buying a competitor is far from novel, Alfresco’s low-code tools – combined with its ability to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) services from <a href="https://www.alfresco.com/ecm-software/aws">cloud providers like AWS</a> – were likely key factors in Hyland's decision, enabling them to accelerate their modernization efforts.
<h3>Adding Nuxeo's low-code AI service and DAM capabilities</h3>
With the Nuxeo acquisition, Hyland is consuming another competitor – this time from the Visionary quadrant of Gartner's MQ for Content Services Platforms.
Nuxeo brings some unique assets to Hyland that may translate into significant advantages against Microsoft and Sharepoint. First, it gains <a href="https://www.nuxeo.com/content-services-platform/ai/">Nuxeo Insight</a> – an AI offering that enables customers to use their own data and content to train custom ML models for a variety of business applications. This includes enriching content with metadata, classifying people, products and records, automating forms processing, and more.
The critical advantage with Nuxeo Insight is that it generates ML models that are trained with a customer’s own data – rendering them far more accurate and insightful than typical AI services offered through public clouds (like AWS).
Nuxeo is also known for its strong enterprise <a href="https://www.nuxeo.com/solutions/dam-digital-asset-management/">DAM capabilities</a>, which provide out-of-the-box solutions for enterprises. Additionally, its large-scale repository – which includes NoSQL and distributed file system options – provides storage and scalability support for organizations with a large number of documents.
In fact, last year, Nuxeo proved its scalability performance with an <a href="https://benchmarks.nuxeo.com/11-billion-benchmark-story/">11-billion-object benchmark test</a> on AWS.
<h3>What does the Nuxeo acquisition mean for Hyland?</h3>
Considering some of Hyland’s core industry verticals – specifically finance – Nuxeo may be well worth the investment. Along with its cloud-native, low-code solutions, Nuxeo's open source community and AI-driven capabilities address key gaps in Hyland's modernization strategy, and will likely be a source of continued product innovation.
The transaction is expected to close in April 2021. Until that time, both companies will continue to operate as two companies. Upon transaction close, Nuxeo's business will be integrated into Hyland.

Nuxeo Announces the Latest Edition of its Modern Content Services Platform

Nuxeo Platform is an open-source content management system used primarily by architects and developers to build, deploy, and run content-centric business applications.

This latest release from Nuxeo, Nuxeo Platform Fast Track 7.3, brings about integration with cloud file sharing platforms, secure Elasticsearch queries with built-in permission checks, better branch management and new options to store files locally or in the cloud.
There's a lot ere's a detailed look at the new features and improvements introduced with Nuxeo Platform FT 7.3.
<h2>Nuxeo Live Connect</h2>
First up, this new feature provides Nuxeo developers with native integration with Cloud-Based Enterprise File Sync and Share (EFSS) platforms. Nuxeo has added native support to natively connect to files stored in EFSS systems including Google Drive and Dropbox.

Editors on these platforms, e.g. Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets, can be viewed and accessed within the Nuxeo environment, providing free and open collaboration without having to copy files and store them locally.
With this release, Nuxeo customers can not only access the standard editors on these platforms but also the wealth of third party editors that have been created. Notably, two or more users can collaborate on a given file – for example, a legal contract or a press release being readied for distribution – within the Nuxeo environment or outside of it while maintaining the approval workflow and publishing capabilities.
<h2>Elasticsearch Query API with Automatic, Dynamic Security Filtering</h2>
Developers can now use a new Elasticsearch API to query the Nuxeo repository.
This new feature also allows developers to build custom Elasticsearch frontend applications, with no need to worry about user authentication or permissioning, which are now automatically enforced by the Nuxeo Platform.
Furthermore, Nuxeo developers are now able to use the native Elasticsearch Query DSL, with the Elasticsearch client of their choice (JavaScript, Python, etc.), to build search functionality in the Web UI of the Nuxeo Platform. From here on out, Nuxeo will dynamically apply permission filters to end user search queries, ensuring that only those objects that the user has access to are presented in search results.
<h2>Branch Management and Collaborative Configuration with Nuxeo Studio</h2>
Nuxeo users can create and manage branches of their Nuxeo Studio Projects.

This allows developers to collaborate while building applications by configuration. Development time can be accelerated and Nuxeo developers can easily use Nuxeo Studio in their development workflow and integration tools.
<h2>Cloud Media Publishing</h2>
Nuxeo customers now have an easy way to push digital media, managed by the Nuxeo Platform, to video publishing platforms. The 7.3 release introduces the ability to publish videos directly to YouTube and Wistia out of the box with the ability to easily add other providers.

Last but not least, is the introduction of HSM.
Nuxeo developers can now implement a HSM policy that complies with business rules while also improving application performance and storage cost efficiencies.
The platform's new File Storage Dispatcher empowers developers to specify which BLOBs are to be stored in Amazon Simple Storage Services (S3), locally, or on a different on-premises storage system. This can be determined based on multiple criteria, including document metadata, file path, file type, or as specified within written code.

Nuxeo Platform 7.3 Released: Automates Elasticsearch Security, Integrates With Google Drive & Dropbox

<a href="http://www.nuxeo.com/" target="_blank">Nuxeo Platform Fast Track 7.1</a> has been released, bringing about new features such as enhanced computed picture views and workflow graphs.

<h2>Foundations For Major Innovations Laid</h2>
Nuxeo Platform Fast Track 7.1 makes it simple to declare new metadata read / write processors and metadata document property mappings. It provides the features needed for using this mapping in custom automation chains context.
With the Nuxeo Platform FT 7.1, developers can easily configure metadata extraction and edits on metadata embedded files, such as:

<li>Office, PDF metadata</li>
<li>EXIF, IPTC, XMP metadata</li>
<li>Media information (especially on video, pictures, and sound)</li>

Furthermore, Nuxeo now offers the ability to easily declare and configure new views using Automation Chains. This enables developers to offer end users a selection of file sizes that can easily be downloaded from the summary tab.

As a service of <a href="https://connect.nuxeo.com/nuxeo/site/connect/trial/form" target="_blank">Nuxeo Connect</a> – the subscription service providing support, maintenance and access to Nuxeo Studio – Nuxeo.io is a development environment offering quick and easy access to lightweight Nuxeo Platform instances on demand.

<h2>Arken Built, Docker Based</h2>
The cloud-based development environment offered by Nuxeo.io makes for quick and easy access to lightweight Nuxeo Platform instances on demand.

Naturally, Nuxeo.io was built with developers with content-centric apps in mind. Nuxeo Rolls Out Beta of Hosting Service Nuxeo.io

<a href="http://www.nuxeo.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Nuxeo</a> have today announced the release of their latest Fast Track version of their popular content management system – Nuxeo Platform 5.9.3.
Nuxeo is an open source CMS platform used primarily by architects and developers to build, deploy, and run content-centric business applications. The Enterprise Content Management (ECM) system offered by Nuxeo allows for document management, case management, digital asset management and other applications.
With the release of version 5.9.3, Nuxeo have introduced a host of new features and enhancements for users, administrators and developers.
<h2>Elasticsearch, Collections &amp; Much More</h2>
One of the most notable features of this new Nuxeo release is the integration of <a href="http://www.elasticsearch.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Elasticsearch</a>. It brings greater scalability to the Nuxeo Platform thanks to its uses regarding document indexing as one example.
Another great addition that comes with 5.9.3 is the Collections type. A Collection is a folder-like document in which you can classify existing content. Documents are not actually copied or moved into the collection, as it only houses links to the document in its original location.
Furthermore, Nuxeo have released an <a href="http://www.nuxeo.com/blog/development/2014/03/introducing-open-source-box-api/">open-source implementation of the Box API</a> that runs on top of a Nuxeo repository. This enables the Nuxeo Box API to:
<ul>
<li>Allow developers to run “their own local Box server” using the Nuxeo Platform. This enables them to run a Box server locally, in a continuous integration chain, great for testing Box-based applications.</li>
<li>Serve customers with on premises requirements (or different cloud infrastructures).</li>
</ul>
Additional enhancements to Nuxeo include a full-screen mode, user invitations, UI tweaks and much more.

Nuxeo Platform 5.9.3 Released

Nuxeo, the provider of a content management platform for business applications, today announced the availability of Nuxeo Platform 5.8, a major Long Term Support version of the open-source content management platform. With advances in workflow, content synchronization, and REST APIs, this version is a major step forward for developers and product managers who build content-centric applications to manage business information.
An accumulation of three previously released 5.7.x Fast Track versions, this new version contains a host of new features and enhancements for developers, administrators, and end-users that have already been fully vetted by early adopters in the Nuxeo community. Nuxeo Platform 5.8 includes a new set of resource-oriented endpoints for the REST API, adaptive capabilities for the integrated workflow engine, improved processing and navigation of digital assets, and Nuxeo Drive, a desktop synchronization client for the Nuxeo content repository.
In addition, this version benefits from the initial groundwork for nuxeo.io, the upcoming PaaS offering, with expanded REST API endpoints and increased flexibility for quickly building web applications.

<li>A new, highly configurable media asset navigation user interface for Digital Asset Management applications,</li>
<li>Deep application monitoring and metrics collection using the Yammer Metrics library, with easy integration with most metrics storage systems,</li>
<li>Full OSGi compliance for the Content Automation client, a fluid Java wrapper for the Nuxeo REST API which runs on the JVM or on Android,</li>
<li>Optimizations in the Nuxeo content persistence engine such as support for Oracle on Amazon RDS and Microsoft SQL Server 2012, and faster updates of complex properties,</li>
<li>Enhanced user experience with saved search sharing, a workflow tab to group tasks and run bulk operations, and a CSV importer, among many other new features.</li>

Nuxeo Platform 5.8 is available for download immediately. The installation wizard gives access to a free 30-day trial of Nuxeo Connect, a portal providing maintenance upgrades, easy installation of add-ons, and Nuxeo Studio, a design environment for easy configuration and customization of the platform. Nuxeo Releases a Major Version of the Nuxeo Platform

Nuxeo have officially launched their latest update in the form of Nuxeo Platform 5.7.3, bringing with it a host of new improvements for administrators, general users and also developers.
The open-source platform is primed for building content-centric business applications, with an aim to integrate and align with existing IT infrastructures which many organizations may already have in place.
The 5.7.3 update offers features that can help users and administrators get work done quicker as they use the platform's interface, whilst also offering some more technical improvements.
<h2>Enhanced User Interface &amp; Workflow Features</h2>
One of the ways in which Nuxeo have improved the user interface, is through some simple, yet effective ways. A “Form Submit Shield” for example deters errors and unhappy users who wish to crazily click the “Submit” buttons more times than necessary. Now, the interface will simply present the user with a message telling them that their request is being processed.
Another handy feature comes in the form of an inactivity screen, which alerts users to the fat that their session has expired, and that they need to log back in to continue.

Additionally, some interesting Workflow improvements have been added. Workflow tasks can now be specifically assigned to other users, and a clever multitasking feature creates a different task per assignee.

Nuxeo also further enhanced Workflow by implementing a visual graph, allowing users to visualize the tasks at hand, their context, relevance and structure. All of these useful improvements will almost certainly streamline tasks and make life easier for all Nuxeo users.
<h2>Automation, Widgets and Much More</h2>
As well as all the new interface and Workflow enhancements detailed above, Nuxeo have piled on quite a few more updates which may pique the interest of developers and technically minded Nuxeo users.
The Nuxeo REST API provides several new endpoints for documents, users, groups and more. Additionally, users can now enable tracing of Content Automation call using the Automation trace feature.
What's more is, UI/UX frameworks have been re-worked, Select2 widgets have been integrated, and much more has been done behind the scenes, to help the entire platform run smoother than ever before.

Content Management Vendor Nuxeo has announced that they have acquired an additionsal $3.8 million in funding from venture capital firms. This brings the total amount raised to $9.5 million to date.
Acording to Nuxeo, they will use the new capital to support their rapid growth in the U.S. market. Nuxeo launched a presence in the U.S. market in 2009, and has exceeded revenue expectations in the region in the past 3 years, with over 100% growth annually since 2011. The U.S. market now represents more than 50% of new subscription sales for the company.
The capital will support a range of activities, such as building out consulting and support teams, and expanding the sales presence in North America.

Nuxeo's business model centers on a subscription offering that includes support, maintenance, and application design and deployment tools. Nuxeo is sustaining a monthly subscription renewal rate of 105% globally, indicating both a high level of customer satisfaction and bigger renewal contracts to accompany growing projects. This corresponds to a negative churn rate, which is much better than average for the software industry.

Nuxeo adds $3.8 million in funding

Nuxeo, the Open Source Enterprise Content Management (ECM) company, today announced that it has seen significant growth in the ECM marketplace – particularly in North America. In 2009, Nuxeo more than doubled its revenue, launched several new products and features developed in conjunction with the open source community and won several industry accolades. The open source document management company also now has expanded to 50+ employees in Paris and Boston and more than 50 partners worldwide.
“Our experience over the past 12 + months in North America is that there is a large segment of the market that want the breadth and depth of larger content management systems from first generation ECM vendors such as EMC, IBM, Open Text and Oracle – but today they require more modern, extensible architectures and lower overall costs,” said Eric Barroca, CEO of Nuxeo. “Our appeal is a feature rich ECM platform and packaged applications that address the architectural and functional needs of large enterprises, but are also easily deployable in a wide range of environments and extended and developed by customers themselves.”
2009 highlights include:
– Major Growth of Subscriber Base – Nuxeo has tripled their customer base in 2009, boosted by a move to the North American market and the improvement of its Nuxeo Connect, the company's flagship subscription offering delivering software maintenance &amp; support to its customers. New global customers in 2009 include Orange, one of the world's leading telecommunications and network services companies; Jeppesen, a division of Boeing; EllisDon, one of the largest building contractors in Canada; Serimax, an international full service welding company; Cengage Learning, which makes customized learning solutions for universities, instructors, students, libraries, government agencies, corporations, and professionals; Frequentis, which supports state and local governments with emergency response/command and control applications; and Vilogia, a France-based privately held property management company.
– Revenue Growth: In line with its growing subscriber base, Nuxeo has seen a 285% growth in 2009 revenue compared to close of 2008. This validates the company's strategy to deliver an open source ECM platform as a foundation for content applications. This growth also demonstrates a successful expansion into the North American market and ability to compete with and beat proprietary and open source ECM vendors alike. With demand for Nuxeo Connect subscriptions on the rise, the Nuxeo revenue mix has shifted to more packaged support and maintenance deals. At close of 2009, Nuxeo's revenue is largely driven by its subscription offering.
– Galaxy Partner Program launched – 50 partners — integrators and application providers — have signed up for the Nuxeo Galaxy Partner program since its launch in July 2009. The Nuxeo Galaxy Program gives business and field experts the ability to package their knowledge and offer both horizontal and vertical applications, designed to meet specific content management challenges. Galaxy partners deliver their domain expertise and solutions to their customers as well as to the broader, ever growing Nuxeo community.
– Significant community contributions – Nuxeo was able to expand its product in a number of meaningful ways including through contributions from its open source community. For example, Nuxeo added support for OpenSocial through the contributions of one of its larger customers Leroy Merlin with the Nuxeo DM 5.3 release in October 2009.
– Gained industry accolades – Nuxeo continues to be recognized by leading publications and win awards. It recently won TechWeb’s Intelligent Enterprise Editors’ Choice award that recognizes the most influential technology companies impacting enterprises today. It was also <a href="http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/10things/?p=1147" target="_blank">listed</a> as one of “10 open source projects worth checking out” by TechRepublic.
– Now has more than 50 employees, up from 38 in 2008 – Nuxeo continued to grow the number of employees both in Paris, as well as the new office in Boston. Among the high-profile hires was appointing David Cloyd, General Manager of the Americas and Cheryl McKinnon as its first Chief Marketing Officer. McKinnon brought more than fifteen years experience in the ECM space, most recently with Open Text. – Leadership role with Apache Chemistry incubator project &amp; CMIS – Nuxeo spearheaded the creation of the vendor-neutral Apache Chemistry incubator project, which is developing a generic, open source Java reference implementation of the Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) standard. Nuxeo also participates on the OASIS CMIS technical committee, which is working on creating a standard web services infrastructure to allow enterprises to more easily share information with multiple ECM systems as well as between ERP and CRM systems.
2010 also off to a record start with the releases of Nuxeo DAM and Nuxeo Studio. The Nuxeo Digital Asset Management offering, Nuxeo DAM, helps organizations catalogue, process, store, retrieve, and distribute rich media content, including images, audio, and video. Nuxeo Studio is the configuration and customization environment for Nuxeo EP, Nuxeo DM and Nuxeo DAM. Nuxeo Studio is available to subscription customers to help them accelerate application building with a simple web-hosted design tool. Nuxeo DAM is driving new deals early in 2010, with the first closed contract achieved within 30 days of product launch.
