Atlassian chooses Magnolia CMS for groundbreaking product training website

There are plenty of people who contribute to the amazing success of the popular open source content management system, Joomla!, but none have managed to capture as much admiration as long time contributor and member of the Joomla Leadership team, Louis Landry. Without intentionally trying, Louis' name has been synonymous with Joomla! and everything the project strives to be.
Yesterday, Louis Landry <a href="https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/joomla-leadership/Ua25RAHgdWQ/discussion">announced his retirement</a> from Joomla Leadership after years of hard work:

Louis, to me, has long been considered the “go to” guy for information on Joomla and how it's progressing and during “<a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/a-conversation-with-louis-landry-of-the-joomla-cms-project/">our conversation with Louis Landry</a>” post, my admiration for this man grew immeasurably.For those who have not yet had a chance to read the above post, I strongly suggest you do so, it's a fascinating read. 
While some may consider this a great loss for the Joomla project, I consider it a great addition to the developer community and am excited to see where Louis' name shows up next.

Release of jAPS 2.0 Entando version 2.2.2

A new version of Symphony CMS has been made available. This new release of the open source XSLT content management system offers a myriad of bugfixes and improvements.
Symphony, for those unaware, is an XSLT based CMS that offers plenty of power with a minimalist interface (which I personally love). You can read our <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/symphony-cms-review/">Symphony CMS review</a> if you are unfamiliar with the system.
A quick breakdown of the new features (this may be over the head of some people if you are unfamiliar with the system):

<li>Allow filters and prepopulate to be passed as arrays allowing multiple backend filters</li>
<li>The <code>EventPreSaveFilter</code> now gets passed the <code>$entry_id</code> when an Event is editing entries. This will be <code>null</code> on new entries</li>
<li>Add <code>__get()</code> to the <code>EmailGateway</code> allowing variables to be accessed once they are set</li>

Symphony CMS 2.2.2 released

ExpressionEngine 2.2.2 has been released today.  Version 2.2.2 is a minor update targeting membership sites who use “Manual activation by an administrator” only.  It is not a necessary upgrade for other sites, and the handful of fixes in this release will be included in our next scheduled release targeting all users.
A change in behavior was introduced in 2.2 with respect to the “Pending” member group’s ability to log in to an ExpressionEngine web site.  While template access restrictions, and member group access permissions are customizable for this special member group, previous versions of ExpressionEngine did not allow members assigned to this group to log in, but 2.2 did.  The change was substantial enough to treat it as a critical bug for the small percentage of sites that are affected by this behavior, prompting today’s release.
If you have a membership based site running version 2.2 or 2.2.1, and are using manual activation for your newly registered members, and have content on your site that is available to registered members but not protected by template access or the Pending member group’s membership preferences, please <a href="https://secure.expressionengine.com/download.php">download</a> and <a href="http://expressionengine.com/user_guide/installation/update.html">update</a> to version 2.2.2.

Russian Parliament Begins Open Government Era with Bitrix

Packt launches its sixth annual Open Source Awards

If your site runs on the powerful SquareSpace CMS (see our <a href="/squarespace-review-the-long-awaited-commerce-solution/">squarespace review</a> for more info) and you own an iPad, you absolutely must try their iPad app.
SquareSpace for iOS is an exceptional app that allows you to post and manage your SquareSpace site directly from your iPad and it's one of the best apps we've seen so far for content management. As you can see from the video above, it's a slick and powerful interface that allows you to easily add post content, pictures and more to your site.
Using the text editor is quite easy and allows input in a variety of formats such as Markdown, Textile, Plain text and HTML. The editor works very well and is nice and clean. Adding pictures from the iPad is as easy as selecting from the camera roll / photo library and they too work without issue.
One of the best inclusions that they made with this app was that of the metrics. It's nice to be able to have a quick look at your stats on the go and they are formatted well for the iPad screen with more than enough stats for the metrics obsessed.
In my time using the app, I experienced only smoothness and no issues with forced closures or crashes. It's a slick interface that makes you actually WANT to use the app for publishing.

In what is probably the most most confusing release announcement I've read yet, a new release of Drupal has been made available. I believe it's 7.7 that's out, but 7.5 and 7.6 are also mentioned so it's a bit confusing. See for yourself:

Long story short, if you run Drupal 7.x, you should probably upgrade. Hopefully, we'll see more clarity in future release announcements.

Drupal 7.7 is out (or maybe it's 7.5... or 7.6?)

This latest edition provides a wealth of new features including: customizable metadata, new preview plug-in architecture and a dedicated JavaScript scripting engine.
