As Autonomy considers HP’s multi-billion dollar buy-out offer, <a href="http://www.laserfiche.com">Laserfiche</a> announces a trade-in program designed to help customers of acquired enterprise content management (ECM) vendors easily and cost-effectively upgrade to a full-featured—and fully supported—Laserfiche ECM system.
<blockquote>
“Due to mergers and acquisitions, a lot of ECM customers aren’t being looked after,” said Chris Wacker, Executive Vice President at Laserfiche. “New releases aren’t being supported, so customers are stuck paying maintenance fees for outdated legacy systems that aren’t meeting their needs, but which they can’t afford to replace.”
</blockquote>
Laserfiche’s trade-in program allows new customers to receive credit for the value of their existing ECM systems when converting from a competitor’s product to Laserfiche.
Laserfiche is a profitable company with a long track record of success in the ECM market. In a 2010 IDC Vendor Profile titled, “Laserfiche: A Company on the Move,” IDC states, “Laserfiche, a private company, has had several opportunities to be purchased. Conversations with senior management suggest that this is not the intent of [CEO Nien-Ling] Wacker, who seems to have made the decision long ago to continue as a viable private entity with the appropriate succession plans in place to keep the company's vision and strategy alive.”
According to IDC, “IDC's assessment of Laserfiche is that it provides a robust ECM offering in a simple yet elegant way… Laserfiche provides a complete offering without being overly complicated. Both its end-user functionality and its administrative capabilities can help organizations address the majority of their document and records management issues effectively and within a shorter time frame than other large enterprise content management providers.”
About Laserfiche Since 1987, Laserfiche® has used its Run Smarter® philosophy to create simple and elegant enterprise content management (ECM) solutions. More than 30,000 organizations worldwide—including federal, state and local government agencies and Fortune 1000 companies—use Laserfiche software to streamline document, records and business process management.
Laserfiche distributes its software through a worldwide network of value-added resellers (VARs), who tailor solutions to clients’ individual needs. The Laserfiche VAR program has received the Five-Star Rating from Computer Reseller News/VARBusiness magazine.

Laserfiche Announces Upgrade Offer for Acquired ECM Companies

<a href="http://www.bitrixsoft.com/">Bitrix</a>, Inc. announces the registration of the 6,000th partner in its ever-growing network. The Bitrix Partner Network, which includes web design, e-commerce and online marketing agencies, as well as solution integrators, has experienced a growth spurt since the beginning of 2011, adding well more than 100 new companies per month over that span. Bitrix is confident that this is the largest network of partners among independent CMS and intranet solution vendors.
Bitrix achieved this level of popularity by setting the standards in performance and security while delivering the power and freedom that professional designers demand. Bitrix provides a variety of product editions that allow these diverse service providers to develop a wide range of web solutions, from simple showcase websites to advanced, multi-language e-stores, massive social networks, mobile web projects and highly secure intranet solutions.
The Bitrix Partner Network includes companies from all inhabited continents, with the greatest density in Europe. The flagship products of Bitrix – Bitrix Site Manager and Bitrix Intranet – are supplied in three languages: English, German, and Russian, and thanks to the work of Bitrix Partners, they can be extended with 8 additional language packs. Partners are also encouraged to develop product extensions and distribute them via the Bitrix Marketplace.
<blockquote>
“It is a great advantage for our clients to have such a large network of Bitrix Partners at their disposal. We are really proud to be partnered with over 6,000 professional web-service providers who our clients can trust. Through this network, Bitrix has attained a virtuous cycle where the product is exposed to the full spectrum of market demands from small business to large enterprises and government institutions, allowing us to guide our development in accordance and even in anticipation of this steady stream of information.” — said Sergey Ryzhikov, CEO of Bitrix Inc.
</blockquote>
For clients needing assistance in finding the proper project implementer, the Bitrix sales department is able to identify one or a small set of contractors who can bring experience and insight to the project. Geographical proximity is sometimes essential; other times, a Partner working in the same niche is the best option. Having selected a web project developer or a Bitrix product reseller, our clients receive a full range of high-quality services and a guarantee that their Bitrix-based web project will be in good hands.

WordPress is, perhaps, the most prolific Content Management System of all time and it's always amazing to see how much it continues to grow year over year.  According to recent metrics, WordPress powers an amazing 14.7% of the top million websites in the world.
In this ‘State of the Word' address, Matt Mullenweg talks about this, and more. It's a very interesting watch for those who couldn't attend WordCamp San Franciso this year:

The Incredible Growth of WordPress

According to <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2011/aug/18/hewlett-packard-takeover-bid-autonomy">The Guardian</a>, Autonomy has confirmed that they have received a $10 billion takeover bid from Hewlett Packard. This news also comes amidst the recent news that HP has decided to officially discontinue all WebOS based products (ie: touchpad, phones, etc).
With the number of recent acquisitions within the CMS market, this purchase may be an attempt on HP's part to actually start turning a profit with one of their business units. They haven't had much success with products recently and Autonomy is certainly doing well for themselves within the CMS space.
Getting into the CMS space may very well be a smart move on their part given the predictions that the market will only continue to grow. The CMS market space has also been quite resilient throughout the recent recession with a number of vendors continuing to turn tidy profits.
We will continue to keep our ears to the ground and listen to see when/if this develops further.

HP in discussions to buy Autonomy

Contao CMS (formerly known as Typolight) 2.10.0 is available today. This release includes all new features that have been presented at the Contao conference such as HTML5 and CSS3 support, global style sheet variables, compressed CSS and JS files and much more. In addition, over 220 tickets have been incorporated into the new version.
Live Update
The Live Update from version 2.9.5 to 2.10.0 includes almost 1,500 files, if you upgrade from a prior version, it might be even more. This makes this update the biggest in the history of Contao which requires corresponding script timeout and memory limit settings. Therefore, check your server limits and php.ini settings before you start the Live Update.
In case the Live Update terminates prematurely, open the Contao installation directory (e.g. with your FTP client), find the system/constants.php file and reset VERSION and BUILD to the prior installed version (e.g. version 2.9 and build 5 for Contao 2.9.5). Then restart the Live Update.
Third-party extensions
Not all extensions in the Extension Repository are already available for version 2.10. Therefore, check your installed extensions before the update and update them accordingly or temporarily deactivate them in the back end settings.
If you need to use an extension which has not yet been approved for version 2.10, try to deactivate the request tokens in the back end settings. Most extensions should then run under Contao 2.10. Note, however, that this change decreases the security of your installation!

Telerik Delivers Complete Online Customer Experience with Added Ecommerce Support in Sitefinity ASP.NET CMS

Atlassian, an award-winning developer of software development and collaboration tools including JIRA and Confluence, has chosen <a href="http://www.magnolia-cms.com">Magnolia CMS</a> to build ‘Atlassian University’, a state-of-the-art product training site, as well as a new corporate site.
After developing their own proof of concept, Atlassian selected Magnolia CMS, a Java-based open source content management system.
<blockquote>
“Our company had grown, but our website had hit a wall,” said Jay Simons, Atlassian Marketing VP. “We were managing content using JSP pages and SVN, which was incredibly time-consuming as every change needed to be funneled through a small team of web developers. As our product portfolio and geographic reach expanded significantly, we needed to step up to a very robust, enterprise-class CMS, that would be able to integrate with our planned websites, while making it easier for our marketing staff to create and edit content themselves.”
</blockquote>
Atlassian’s Simons describes Magnolia’s advantages:
<blockquote>
“We have extensive in-house skills for working with Java, so it made sense for us to go with a solution built on a technology stack with which we’re familiar, save time and benefit from its proven standards. Magnolia CMS is extremely flexible, enabling us to rapidly create ‘self-service’ pages for content creators. We now have a robust content creation, validation, localization, and publication workflow.”
</blockquote>
With Atlassian’s rapid growth and expansion into European markets, the company needed to make the process of publishing content in multiple languages quicker and easier.
<blockquote>
“Everyone wants a CMS to be simple, but this means different things to different users in an organization,” said Boris Kraft, President of Magnolia Americas. “Atlassian is a perfect example – their skilled web development team needs the ability to achieve complex integrations but wants the simplicity of using a proven Java technology stack that they know well. Their business users want the ability to create customized web content themselves but without the headache of dealing with complex interfaces. It’s great that Atlassian can meet both needs with Magnolia.”
</blockquote>
About Magnolia CMS Magnolia’s open source content management system delivers simplicity on an enterprise scale. Its outstanding combination of ease-of-use with a flexible, standards-based Java architecture has led to its adoption by enterprises and governments throughout the world, including ING, the U.S. Navy, JBoss.org, Johnson &amp; Johnson, Lloyds TSB, Sony, Unilever, and the U.S. Department of Defense. Liferay, Inc. today announced a 50 percent growth in revenue through its core business during the first half of 2011 from the same period last year, largely driven by strengthening adoption from industries such as financial services, health care, manufacturing and higher education. These sectors are seeing growing needs for the cost-effective, flexible web portal strategies that Liferay offers.
As the provider of the world’s leading enterprise-class open source portal, Liferay has a rapidly growing community of 46,000 registered users. The web portal leader is on track to see its financial performance continue to strengthen and accelerate through the second half of 2011.
<blockquote>
“Liferay, Inc.’s solid fiscal performance underscores the enduring strength and adaptability of the Liferay platform, which our customers in a broad array of industries are using to solve complex business problems quickly and efficiently,” said Bryan Cheung, CEO of Liferay, Inc. “Our continuing growth also reflects the passion found across our ecosystem, from our employees to our partners to our open source community—together, we have built one of the best web application platforms on the market today.”
</blockquote>
Liferay’s total global revenue saw an approximate 50 percent increase in its core business of providing support and other professional services over the same six-month period in 2010. The 50 percent increase is in addition to growing OEM business with major vendors in technology, telecom, and information services.
Enterprise leaders are increasingly choosing Liferay over much bigger competitors for their enterprise portal and collaboration needs, according to Cheung. In an economic environment requiring fiscal responsibility, efficiency and innovation, companies choosing Liferay cite the product’s flexibility and modularity, breadth of features and ease of use, which together help businesses respond quickly in an agile fashion to changing markets. Financial services companies are building highly personalized online user experiences, health care companies are providing greater information transparency, and universities are responding to students accustomed to highly dynamic, collaborative web environments.
The financial performance reflects strong enthusiasm for Liferay among developers and decision makers. In the first half of this year, Liferay saw its average rate of downloads nearly double to 125,000 downloads per month, compared to the average 64,000 downloads per month in the same period last year.
Web traffic is also accelerating–Liferay has seen in the first six months of 2011 a 41 percent jump in monthly visits to the company’s website from more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. Weekly site visits are up by 25 percent.
Business outlook: In the second half of 2011, Liferay will embark on new opportunities for its ecosystem of partners and developers with the launch of the highly anticipated Liferay Marketplace. End users will be able to find, purchase, download and install third-party Liferay applications through the new site. The collaboration is aimed to make Marketplace the premier destination for solutions built on the Liferay platform.
Liferay is also set to unveil Liferay Portal 6.1EE, the platform’s newest version, at the upcoming West Coast Symposium (Anaheim, Calif., Sept. 21 and 22).

A new version of Symphony CMS has been made available. This new release of the open source XSLT content management system offers a myriad of bugfixes and improvements.
Symphony, for those unaware, is an XSLT based CMS that offers plenty of power with a minimalist interface (which I personally love). You can read our <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/symphony-cms-review/">Symphony CMS review</a> if you are unfamiliar with the system.

<li>Allow filters and prepopulate to be passed as arrays allowing multiple backend filters</li>

<li>Add <code>__get()</code> to the <code>EmailGateway</code> allowing variables to be accessed once they are set</li>
<li>Symphony's Javascript is now documented with JSDoc.</li>
