Team Jaws have announced a new version of their open-source CMS, Jaws.  If you haven't used Jaws, it's a very simple and unique (and small!) CMS that you should definitely at least try once to see if it fits your needs. Jaws CMS version 0.8.14 available

A new version of the popular open-source social networking CMS, Elgg has been released!  1.7.2 is primarily a bugfix release.
Here is a brief list of some of the more annoying bugs that were squashed:
<ul>
<li>Saving drafts and previewing blogs works as expected.</li>
<li>Page titles can now be edited in the Pages plugin.</li>
<li>Group names no longer show up in Friends Collections.</li>
<li>Added a group member listing page.</li>
<li>Group forum topics can be edited.</li>
<li>User data for usernames with UTF8 characters are correctly migrated to the new data scheme.</li>
</ul>
Plugin developers will be pleased to know that a number of bugs in the API were also fixed.  These include:
<ul>
<li>Numerous bug fixes to the elgg_get_*() functions.</li>
<li>Added a generic email sending function (elgg_send_email()).</li>
<li>Added ability to remove river items by ID (remove_from_river_by_id()).</li>
<li>Added a generic excerpt function (elgg_get_excerpt()).</li>

Elgg, the open source social networking CMS announced version 1.7.2

The Umbraco team have announced that Umbraco 4.5.2 beta which fixes 46 bugs that have been reported by our awesome community. Please download it today and help us test it so we can get a fast release. You'll find a full change log in the downloads.
This brings the total number of bug fixes up to 88 since we released Umbraco 4.5 two months ago. There's no way we could have achieved this without the many people who've helped testing, reporting and submitting patches to the issues. Thanks a million!
With Umbraco 4.5.2 we'll finally have an ultra stable version of Umbraco 4.5!
In retrospect – did we release v4.5 too fast?
With almost a hundred bug fixes in just two months it's tempting to question whether we should have released v4.5 at all. It's hard to say as most of the issues was reported after Umbraco 4.5 was released and we've had a beta versions for quite some time. There'll always be bugs in software and when you push the release button is always a question of when it's good enough. If you never push the button, there'll never be a release.
However, I personally think we made a couple of mistakes. That's alright. If we turn the mistakes into lessons learned it means progress for the team and the project. And we're doing our very best to learn. Here's what we've found so far:
<ul>
<li>First of all our test cases were too simple, too narrow and didn't change at all. We had a checklist of various editing actions in combination with testing the Runway and Creative Website Starter packages. This was very helpful in order to find and fix bugs along the way, but this should have been combined with random install of community packages in the Repository.</li>
<li>Unit testing won't find everything. With Umbraco 4.5 we finally added a testing suite with more than 100 unit tests and loads of hidden bugs were found. However, a simple test suite will never be able to cover the many scenarios where Umbraco is used and as such should only be a foundation. This is a no-brainer, yet crucial to remember. With the many things covered by unit tests, there's no longer a Core Team member not believing in Unit tests as heaven sent. But robots will always be the smartest of idiots.</li>
<li>Enthusiasm is awesome but never overshadow the pursuit of attention to detail. One of the things that always have given me the biggest thrill is when tiny details in Umbraco gets improved. In the enthusiasm of the major UI and performance enhancements added to Umbraco 4.5 it was (too) easy to forget this craving for nano management. But it's one of the things makes Umbraco special – even though it can seem silly to spend days on minor things. heck, I even wrote a blog post about this four years ago.</li>
<li>Don't live in a silo. While Umbraco might work perfect for the scenarios used by members of the Core Team, we're only a fraction of the active users. This means that we should be much better to use 3rd party implementations, packages and un-official “tricks” when testing a release. In addition to this, we should involve 3rd party package developers as early as possible and help with a plan on how to ensure that their packages work when we release. Today an Umbraco implementation is often the sum of the Core combined with a number of packages. If they don't work together it can leave a beautiful Core useless.</li>
<li>Raise the community to take even more responsibility. As a community member who's business depending on Umbraco, it's only natural to become disillusioned when a new release doesn't work, forces you to change habits or makes an upgrade impossible. Believe me, the Core Team have no intention on doing this on purpose and it hurts badly when seeing people frustrated. But we're no better than the information given us. So be active. Tell us about what doesn't work and log issues in the Codeplex issue tracker with thorough steps to reproduce. Good bug reports take a lot of effort but in return you get better software. And even better – participate in our beta programs. Many of the bugs reported and fixed the past two months could have been discovered weeks before the release if only we had gotten help with better and more extensive testing. So help us, helping you.</li>
</ul>
We'll use this knowledge while we're building Umbraco 5. You'll see more blog postings, more videos and more documentation about the next version than ever before. We've learned a lesson.

BigBlueButton and Multilingual Improvements Emerge from TikiFest Ottawa
At the most recent TikiFest in Ottawa, Canada, several Tiki Community members met to socialize and contribute their talents to the future of Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware. For four days (August 15 – 18), the attendees (including several remote participants) discussed, planned, and coded many features and enhancements planned for Tiki 6.
The TikiFest ended with a wine-and-cheese social at the Code Factory in Ottawa, hosted by Citadel Rock, Blindside Networks, Pondstone Communications, and AvanTech.net, all of whom are active participants in the Tiki and BigBlueButton communities.
The cornerstone of the TikiFest was to improve the integration between Tiki and BigBlueButton that was first introduced in Tiki 5. Additionally, a full day of the event was reserved for various internationalization (i18n) topics, including:
<ul>
<li> Establishing a collaborative multilingual glossary</li>
<li> Creating a translation server</li>
<li> Making it easier for the Tiki Community to contribute translations</li>
</ul>

BigBlueButton and Multilingual Improvements Emerge from TikiFest  Ottawa

e107 v.0.7.23 is now available. This release is primarily aimed at reducing vulnerabilities and increasing e107's protection against exploits. (a special thank you to Justin Klein Keane (“MadIrish”) for alerting us to the vulnerabilities, and commenting on the fixes.) One of the changes will also affect users who include youtube videos or other embedded media within their site; please see the included readme for more information.
This release also includes some minor feature enhancements:
Download Flood Protection (simultaneous downloads) Found in admin under downloads-&gt;options. Option to prevent a user from downloading multiple files within a short time-period.
YouTube bbcode ([youtube][/youtube]) Allows you to easily add youtube videos to pages of your website. A conversion script is provided for those who have utilized html-code from Youtube already and wish to convert to the bbcode equivalent. (see included README.txt for details). By default, ‘dangerous' HTML (such as the 'embed' code used with many media) is neutralised when it is displayed. This traps malicious code that may have entered the database before the latest updates were put in place. This filter can be disabled through the preference ‘Filter HTML content'.
Language-pack Creator Found in admin under languages-&gt;tools. For those who are translating e107 into other languages, this tool will zip up your core language files into the standard language-pack format so that they can be shared easily with the e107 community. Important information on using this tool can be found <a href="http://wiki.e107.org/index.php?title=How_can_I_post_my_e107_language_file%3F">here</a>.
Support for security include scripts. e107 now supports 3rd-Party security includes such as ZB Block without having to manually modify core scripts. Just install them in your root directory as you would normally. To include ZB Block, you would add the following to e107_config.php: $CLASS2_INCLUDE = ‘zbblock/zbblock.php'; . e107 would then automatically include it in every page of your site.

Release candidates serve as proposed final releases for the project.  While Plone 4.0 has been tested by many members of the Plone developer community, and is already running in production on a number of sites, it needs wider testing to flush out any remaining critical bugs before we can stamp it as a “final release.”  And that's where we need you.
Here's what you can do to help:

They just announced a new release of Symphony CMS, version 2.1.1. Highlights of this release include:
<h4>Bug Fixes</h4>

<li>#341: Clarify copy on limits in DS editor.</li>
<li>#374: Fixes Random sorting bug.</li>
<li>#375: If the appendFormattedElement() function gets NULL data, it will return before attempting to create an XMLElement object.</li>
<li>#375: Using isfile() instead of fileexists(), as the later returns true if the path is a directory or file.</li>
<li>#376: Section editor menu-hiding copy tweak.</li>
<li>#379: Initialising ExtensionManager before calling isLoggedIn(). This prevents fatal error thrown when trying to set authors non-english language preference.</li>
<li>#380: Removing a file now works as expected.</li>
<li>#381: Don’t overwrite file when page is a duplicate.</li>
<li>#385: Fixed logic in Session class, which was faulty and caused regular logout.</li>

<h4>Minor Updates</h4>

<li>This tweak allows the DS editor to keep custom sort values, instead of forcing ‘asc’, ‘desc’ or ‘random’. This is handy if you want to use dynamic values. E.G. {$order:asc} and still be able to edit the DS via the admin interface. The custom value will show as an item in the select box. So long as it is not changed, the value will persist.</li>
<li>Added ‘image/pjpeg’ to the list of image mime types.</li>

The latest release of OpenCMS has been announced. OpenCMS is a professional, easy to use website content management system. OpenCms helps content managers worldwide to create and maintain beautiful websites fast and efficiently.

OpenCMS version 7.53 has been released

Strelin CMS is a new fork of the popular open source content management system, Joomla!. Forked from version 1.5, this new CMS is described as having an advanced ACL that Joomla! currently is lacking.
The first beta was released on July 12, 2010.
This is a very new project and right now, there's minimal information available on the site about why they decided to fork Joomla! as opposed to contribute to it directly.
As far as we can tell, there is currently very little to differentiate it from from Joomla! (other than an ACL option which is forthcoming in Joomla 1.6) and the website needs quite a bit of work, but regardless, we wanted our readers to know that it's out there.
