Reading UK— Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (F.A.Z), one of Germany’s largest newspapers, has signed an agreement with Atex to deploy the Polopoly Web content management solution across all of its properties including its main news website FAZ.NET, which averages 22 million visits and more than 116 million page impressions per month.
F.A.Z chose the Atex solution after having carried out an extensive testing phase with many of the market vendors. Throughout the evaluation process Polopoly proved its ability to adapt to the publisher’s editorial requirements. Polopoly also showed ease of integrating with F.A.Z’s existing applications including the publisher’s photo archive and Atex Editorial CMS.
The test phase was conducted in cooperation with Netpioneer, an Atex certified implementation partner who will be responsible for the global roll out of Polopoly at F.A.Z.
“We were delighted to see how fast the system could adapt to our requirements,” said Kai N. Pritzsche, Responsible Editor for FAZ.NET. “In addition, we felt that Netpioneer’s profound understanding of editorial processes was a decisive factor for the efficient implementation of the project.”
Florian Pütz, Manager of FAZ.NET, added: “The test phase approach, the Polopoly platform itself, and the close interaction between Atex and Netpioneer strongly influenced our selection process.”
“We are delighted to count F.A.Z. as one of our prestigious customers. This is further proof that Polopoly is one of the only solutions on the market that supports dynamic publishing of content in large scale environments,” said Gustaf Sahlman, Atex’s Global Director of Products. “Our sophisticated caching technology will enable F.A.Z. to handle traffic peaks with reasonable hardware requirements.”

Flypaper Studio, Inc., making Flash and motion graphics creation simple for digital signage networks, announces today the release version 3.3. The latest updates and new components included with this version support the growing demand in digital signage for faster, better quality content with a focus on touch-screen interactive experiences. The newest multi-touch features, including the ability to slide, swipe and flick at all components on a screen, allow companies to do cooler things with digital signage, and do them more affordably and in significantly less time.
“The demand for digital signage is growing so exponentially, that companies are struggling to keep up and continually improve on the content itself. Flypaper is working tirelessly to stay ahead of the curve and give digital signage network owners and operators more options for creating killer content,” said Don Pierson, founder and president of Flypaper. “Multi-touch is the latest functionality that everyone is looking to incorporate, and this latest version of Flypaper helps showcase it beautifully.”
Flypaper's Version 3.3 has several new features and updates aimed at making the customer experience with digital signage more interactive. New components that are especially powerful for kiosk displays include a virtual keyboard, a timer that kicks in during periods of inactivity, and a print button. Gesture support has been added to all components so users can slide, swipe and flick the display, making it a more engaging experience. Developers can also now add in Media RSS feeds and scrollers, run video within text, and input real-time weather data. In total, Flypaper added nearly 40 new features, updates and enhancements to version 3.3.
“Just when we think we've reached the limit for a touch screen display, Flypaper brings in new elements that raise the bar even higher,” said Scott Mathews, CEO of MG Digital Media Network. “They have done a great job of staying one step ahead of what the industry needs.”
Flypaper is revolutionizing the digital signage world by enabling the development of high-quality, affordable Flash content that is very fast to create and easy to edit. The Flypaper Flash Content Creation Platform is a licensed environment where companies can create and share vast amounts of digital signage content and motion graphics. Users benefit from hundreds of already available templates and components, or can create their own quickly and easily, with no prior development experience.
About Flypaper Studio, Inc. Flypaper Studio, Inc. is the leading Flash Content Creation Platform that empowers programmers and non-programmers alike to create, edit, share, track and reuse high-impact Flash and video content. The Flypaper platform allows anyone to edit and manipulate components without touching programming code. Through an SDK that converts Flash elements into Flypaper Components, Flash Programmers can create components, which can be edited and reused. Output from the application rivals the interactivity and quality of custom Flash development, but in a fraction of time and cost typically associated with such projects. Multi-award winning software platform Intranet DASHBOARD (iD) has announced the release of an all new SharePoint Connector, offering unprecedented connectivity with the enterprise collaboration giant.
iD has expanded the software to include an all new iD API that delivers the ability to extend and customize the out of the box intranet offering. The SharePoint Connector is the first application to be developed using the iD API, and both are included at no extra cost.
“We wanted to create the SharePoint Connector to enable clients to leverage the respective strengths of both software products,” said Connie Pandos, Director of Intranet DASHBOARD.
The SharePoint Connector showcases ease of use from both a usability and development perspective. Requiring no technical nous to operate, iD provides the ideal platform to quickly and easily make SharePoint content accessible for a wide range of users.
iD’s SharePoint Connector acts as a window to SharePoint for intranet users, enabling content including Task Lists and Document Libraries to be surfaced seamlessly within iD’s usable intranet interface.
“SharePoint’s collaboration capabilities are great, but the challenge lies in providing a user-friendly intranet framework for managing and accessing its content,” said Connie Pandos, Director of iD. “That’s where iD comes in.”
iD now delivers all the benefits of an off the shelf solution with the flexibility of a bespoke offering.
“iD is more versatile and customizable than ever before – an agile, adaptive intranet platform.”

Tiki 6.0 Beta Now Available

A new release of mojoPortal has been made available. This is a compatibility update for the changes in ASP.NET that resulted from the <a href="http://www.mojoportal.com/the-fix-for-the-aspnet-security-bug-is-now-available-on-windows-update.aspx">security patch recently released by Microsoft and now available from Windows Update</a>.
<blockquote>
Before the security update, there was a possibility for a System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException when decrypting the role cookie if the machine key had changed and the user was already authenticated. We already had error handling for this error, but after the security update the behavior changed and it would throw a more generic HttpException there which we were not handling, and this would cause users who were previously authenticated to experience an error until they cleared the cookie.
Even without a machine key change, the same error could happen if a user was authenticated before the windows update was applied, the error could happen for that user after the update was applied (because there were also changes to how cookies are encrypted in the security update) In this release we have added handling for the new more generic exception so the cookie will be reset if this error occurs and the user will not experience an error on your site.
</blockquote>
New features include:
<ul>
<li> upgrade to CKeditor 3.4.1</li>
<li> upgrade to TinyMCE 3.3.9.2</li>
<li> updated Italian resource files thanks to Diego Mora</li>
<li> fixed a bug where menu items that were configured as unclickable were still clickable in the breadcrumbs</li>
</ul>

mojoPortal 2.3.5.4 Released

Until recently, Danish developer Composite have been distributing the company’s professional content management system – Composite C1 – on commercial terms. But now Composite has decided to go open source and allow anyone to download and use the complete product for free.
Composite C1 allow website builders to get a user friendly CMS up and running fast and allow for customizations via free and commercial packages as well as tools targeting both frontend and backend developers. .NET developers can use technologies like .NET 4, LINQ, ASP.NET Controls and MVC while frontend developers are capable of completing many more tasks than they usually can in a CMS.
– The whole mindset behind Composite C1 as a .NET-based product was originally to make it successful on the commercial marketplace – which it is on a regional basis. This background bring a much more intuitive and user-friendly experience to market than other Open Source based CMS-alternatives. Actually, I think we’re one of the very first companies worldwide to convert a fully-featured, commercial .NET-based CMS into an Open Source project, says partner Oskar Lauritzen, Composite.
– Our Open Source initiative aims at making Composite C1 accessible worldwide to a significantly larger population of companies and organizations. At the same time, it gives us a tremendous opportunity to widen the base of developers working to strengthen the product as well as to develop C1 add-ons of their own, he continues.
With a history spanning the last decade, Composite is already regarded as a proven and experienced commercially focused developing house, “so it’s perfectly understandable if our venture into Open Source will raise a few eyebrows out there,” says Oskar Lauritzen.
But not so amongst the company’s existing paying customers, who backs the initiative unanimously. Even Microsoft, who has lent significant developing support to the C1-project during the last three years, feels that the initiative is a pretty good idea.
– Composite’s Open Source initiative is really remarkable and exciting. First and foremost because it makes good sense to open up the code of a .NET-based product, as there’s simply so many gifted developers out there who’s already familiar with the platform, says Ole Kjeldsen, Enterprise &amp; Platforms Director, Microsoft Denmark.
– Actually, I think that Composite is one of the really interesting developing houses to follow right now, concludes Ole Kjeldsen.
In the near future, Composite will establish a marketplace where professional developers can cooperate on Composite C1 add-ons and make them commercially or freely available, depending on which model makes the best sense from the developer’s perspective.

Alfresco, the open platform for social content management, today announced the immediate availability ofAlfresco Community 3.4 for download. Alfresco 3.4 broadens the reach of the company’s open source and open standards-based content management platform with new tools and services for Spring developers, Web Quick Start for easy web site deployment and content integration with enterprise portals. This builds on Alfresco’s strategy of offering the industry’s only content platform that delivers the flexibility and affordability required across the enterprise.
“The demand for collaboration and social sharing around enterprise content is rising – and content that was once meant just for the intranet is now being repurposed for the public web, external portals or even to destination sites across the web,” said John Newton, Alfresco CTO. “Through our implementation of CMIS as a core standard and new features in Alfresco 3.4, our content services platform can now manage and deliver enterprise content to any internal or external application in a way that traditional, monolithic ECM products can’t enable without significant time and expense.”
Key product capabilities for the Alfresco Community 3.4 release include:
<ul>
<li>Collaborative Web Authoring – Alfresco Web Quick Start is a set of out-of-the-box templates for building content-rich websites on top of Alfresco Share. Quick Start combines the power of Alfresco Share for web team collaboration, with powerful content authoring and publishing services like in-context web editing.</li>
<li>Office-to-Web Framework* – Using Microsoft’s Office SharePoint Protocol and CIFS (shared file drive), along with a new API integration with Google Docs, users can now author documents in their native office suite, collaborate in Alfresco or Google Docs, transform and re-purpose if required, and then publish straight to the web – even with sophisticated approval workflows.</li>
<li>Web Content Services for Spring – Built using the popular Spring and Spring Surf frameworks, Alfresco now offers key content management services that can be accessed via OpenCMIS and integrated into any web application. A combination of standard development tools and lightweight scripting gives Spring and Surf developers many options for building content-rich apps.</li>
<li>Integration with Enterprise Portals and Social Software – The new DocLib portlets allow seamless integration with enterprise portals like Liferay, Quickr and Confluence. Using Single Sign On (SSO), the portlets provide access to both content and project repositories from within any JSR168 compliant portal.</li>
<li>Distributed Content Replication – Native support for content replication allows organizations to run federated content repositories. Key documents can now be replicated to remote offices, enabling greater sharing of information, quicker access, reduced wide area network traffic and removes the dependency on a single system.</li>
</ul>
“The increasingly networked nature of business has amplified existing requirements for individuals to collaboratively author, review, and publish content, as well as to quickly build websites using that content,” said Larry Hawes, Lead Analyst, Collaboration &amp; Enterprise Social Software, Gilbane Group. “Alfresco's 3.4 release exposes more content management features within Share and third-party collaboration environments, empowering business people to quickly work together to create and publish content to websites, portals, and social software.”
