Minutes after posting our previous entry entitled “<a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/its-official-textpattern-cms-4-20-is-available/">Textpattern 4.20 released?</a>” the announcement is up on the Textpattern website.
The new Textpattern features a very nice new admin theme called Remora. It's not active by default, but it is an option from the back-end and for those who are looking for a dropdown menu-based admin theme, it's a nice choice.
The official announcement from Textpattern.com reads as follows:
<blockquote>Textpattern CMS 4.2.0 is immediately available for download.
We’ve added new features like admin-side themes, timezone support with automatic DST adjustment on capable servers, and core support for unlimited custom fields, readied Textpattern for compatibility with PHP 5.3, and fixed a number of  small bugs. Upgrades from previous 4.x versions are expected to work seamless under usual reserve of plugin compatibility.</blockquote>

It's official. Textpattern CMS 4.20 is available.

Although not announced yet, download links on the <a href="http://www.textpattern.com">Textpattern</a> website now point to a 4.20 release.
We're not sure if this is an intentional change or an official release yet but in an attempt to download the 4.08 release we noticed that the links now point to what appears to be an official 4.20 release of this open source content management system.
Textpattern 4.20 introduces some very cool admin theming functionality which, while it has been present in the past, appears to be much easier to use and there are already a number of interesting themes cropping up on <a href="http://textgarden.org/layouts/?c=txp-admin">Textgarden.</a>
<a href="http://textgarden.org/layouts/?c=txp-admin"></a>We're testing out this version as we type this to see what has changed and if it is indeed official, we expect to see an announcement from the Textpattern team soon.

Textpattern 4.20 released?

A new milestone release of the enterprise wiki platform, XWiki is available for download. This new release introduces a new skin for easy theming of your wiki and a number of other features.
Easy modification of the new skin is available via a new color control panel shown below:

There are also a number of predefined styles that can be quickly and easily applied:

Other improvements to the Wiki include:

New XWiki enterprise 2.0 milestone release available

There are a lot of great looking CMS products on the market.. but usually ease of use is not part in parcel with their beauty. Such is not the case with Firerift. This is one heck of a nice system.
Firerift is the result of three years worth of reincarnations from a php based CMS called Cobalt to where it is today and we have to say, we like the end result!

Firerift - An amazingly unique new CMS has arrived

<a href="http://www.striquent.com">Striquent</a> recently contacted us to let us know of their new content management system that they launched last week. This new product, entitled Webaptive is a but unique to the market.
What makes it unique?
Here is what they had to say: “Our offering is a bit different from the others in the market. Its targeted at custom ASP .Net applications and is unique in the sense that it doesn’t need an SDK, it’s based on a CMS as-a-service approach. This product took 3 years to build and was launched just last week.”
There is a <a href="http://www.striquent.com/download_center.aspx">30 day trial</a> available on their site and a <a href="http://www.striquent.com/quick_start_video.aspx">video</a> available that showcases the CMS and gives a good idea of what you can expect should you be interested in using it.

Striquent introduces Webaptive CMS

<a href="http://www.ektron.com">Ektron</a> Inc., a technology and market leader in Web content management software has made an impact on the nonprofit industry with a recent number of large organizations looking to Ektron’s Web content management platform to re-define and re-energize their online presence.
Nonprofit organizations have a unique set of needs when it comes to their online strategies. They have to take into consideration more than adding and managing content on their site. Requirements often include social computing tools to build membership communities, online donation platforms and easy integration with third party applications.
“Nonprofits are continuing to rethink their online strategies and the tools they need to execute and achieve their goals,” stated David Maffei, director of sales at Ektron. “We are seeing more and more organizations turning to Ektron because they require a solution that can offer the tools that they need out-of-the-box but also have the flexibility to integrate with their existing third party systems that are core to their business.”
Maffei pointed to the United Service Organization (USO) and C-SPAN as nonprofits which recently selected Ektron CMS400.NET to build their new sites for the reason noted above. Maffei continued, “The USO and C-SPAN are both examples of nonprofits looking for a single solution to build and manage their Web strategies.”
The USO provides morale, welfare and recreation-type services to service members and their families and wanted to incorporate social networking and Web content management as well as an online donation platform without having to implement multiple applications. C-SPAN needed the ability to immediately change content on their site as news stories break and ensure that separation is maintained between content being updated and the Web site’s style and display.
In addition to providing the tools nonprofits need to build their online strategies, Ektron has also considered the importance for nonprofits to be able to integrate with the existing systems they may already have in place. For Ektron customer, The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), it was critical that they could seamlessly integrate with TMA Resources’ Personify, their existing AMS (Association Management Software) package with their content management application. JDRF selected CMS400.NET-based on its open API that allowed them to easily access &amp; integrate with Personify.
“Ektron has witnessed a growing trend in the number of requests by nonprofit organizations for CMS400.NET,” said Maffei. “Not only do we expect this trend to continue but we also expect to see a rise in requests for Ektron’s Best Practices Services and Professional Services as nonprofit’s Web presence becomes more important to their success.”
Other nonprofit organizations and associations that have built their online strategies using Ektron CMS400.NET include: <a href="http://www.specialolympics.org/">Special Olympics</a> , <a href="http://www.unitedway.ca/splash/index.htm">The United Way of Canada – Centraide Canada (UWC-CC)</a> and <a href="http://www.artseveryday.org/">Art’s Every Day</a> which was recently honored with a Webby Award by <a href="http://www.iadas.net/">The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences</a> .

Major Nonprofit Organizations Re-define Their Web Strategy with Ektron CMS400.NET

The announcement has finally come. Elgg, the popular open source social networking CMS has a new release with version 1.6.
Details are still sparse on the <a href="http://elgg.org">Elgg.org</a> site about what exactly is included in this release but the announcement has been made according to this post on Twitter:
“Elgg 1.6 has been released! Grab it from <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="http://tinyurl.com/elgg1-6" target="_blank">http://tinyurl.com/elgg1-6</a> and let us know how your installation or upgrade goes!”

Elgg Social Networking CMS 1.6 has been released

<a href="http://www.open-blog.info" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Open Blog</a> is a lightweight blog platform built on the CodeIgniter PHP Framework. <a href="http://plone.org">Plone</a>, the open source content management system that runs on the Zope platform has seen a new incremental release.
Version 3.3 of the popular open source CMS brings the following enhancements and changes to the platform:
<ul>
<li>Automatic redirection when accessing link objects;</li>
<li>Resource registry improvements that make it easier to organize IE fixes;</li>
<li>More consistent HTML that makes theming with collective.xdv or Deliverance easier;</li>
<li>Improvements to the Windows installer, so it asks for password when it doesn't have the right permissions when being run;</li>
<li>Improvements to document locking behavior and timeouts, as well as the ability to disable it entirely;</li>
<li>Fixes for Internet Explorer 8;</li>
<li>Default disabling of in-line editing, which is invaluable in some use contexts, but causes usability problems in others;</li>
<li>A new view to render calendar events using the iCalendar standard;</li>
<li>Improved access to content histories;</li>
<li>The ability to customize indexing strategies with adapters; and,</li>

Plone CMS 3.3 has been released

There is a new release of Tribiq CMS available in which they have redesigned the back-end of the system to function and look similar to a desktop-like look and feel.
Tribiq is an open source cms that offers a number of iterations up to, and including, an enterprise product. This new releases brings the following new/updated features to the table:

<li>A new admin backend called Storekeeper, giving you a desktop-like look at feel for all of a site's content and other resources</li>
<li>Improved Admin Toolbar</li>
<li>a slimmed-down CMS Core, which can now be enhanced by using a range of Plugins</li>

KnowledgeTree®, an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) provider focusing on affordable document management software that is easily installed and used by business professionals, today announced the release of a developer snapshot of its product that includes an implementation of the draft Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification.
This snapshot is available for testing in the community. CMIS clients, such as CMIS Spaces, will work with the KnowledgeTree CMIS interface and allow users to access content as they would with any other CMIS interface implementation.
The CMIS initiative is led by the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS), which drives the development, convergence and adoption of open standards for the global information society. OASIS open standards offer the potential to lower cost, stimulate innovation, grow global markets and protect the right of free choice of technology. KnowledgeTree is a sponsoring member of OASIS.
“KnowledgeTree is being proactive in adopting and integrating CMIS into our product suite,” said Philip Arkcoll, product manager, KnowledgeTree. “This will allow users of ECM products to extend their software investments by gaining visibility into all enterprise document repositories that have a CMIS interface as well as realize benefits such as reduced vendor lock-in, improved interoperability between content management systems, and a richer content management ecosystem.”
In addition to the CMIS API, KnowledgeTree is also releasing a proof-of-concept CMIS client module to the Drupal web content management application community. This module demonstrates accessing content in the KnowledgeTree repository from the popular web content management server.
The KnowledgeTree CMIS module is built on the core CMIS module, maintained by Optaros. Practice Director of ECM for Optaros, Jeff Potts, said “I've worked directly with implementations of other standards for various purposes and have long been a fan of standardized communication mechanisms allowing people to share their data without having to worry about format conversions and communication issues. We’re pleased to see other organizations like KnowledgeTree that are passionate about open standards.”

Enterprise Content Management Provider KnowledgeTree® Incorporates OASIS CMIS Interface

The developers of dotCMS have introduced a new scripting plugin that brings a number of new integration possibilities to the popular content management system. With the introduction of this plugin, it is now possible to use Ruby, Python, PHP, Groovy and Javascript.
Here are some additional details about this new development:
The plugin is designed to allow developers who are familiar with other scripting languages to build dynamic, content driven web pages and applications and manage them through the dotCMS interface. Scripting developers can have access to the dotCMS content repository through standard contentAPIs and mix and mashup scripting and content in their applications.
“It is really the best of both worlds”, say Jason Tesser, a lead developer for dotCMS and authors of the plugin. “It allows content owners to manage content within a structured, enterprise class CMS and web developers to leverage what they already know to build rich content driven applications.”
“Long story short, I just deployed a complete php app – pastebin (www.pastebin.com) – via webDAV into dotCMS. It is permissioned, versioned, managed and served in dotCMS. Now that is just cool.”
