concrete CMS was commercial software that went open source in late 2008, quickly winning project of the month on SourceForge and much attention from a community of open source fans used to dealing with painful user experiences and scattered code. During the last year the core team behind concrete5 has been flushing out features in their CMS, along with building an active community and marketplace at <a href="http://concrete5.org" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">concrete5.org</a>. Now with the release of version 5.4 concrete5 has really hit its stride and the core team expects continued great growth this summer.
concrete5 powers over 35,000 websites today, with a developer community some 18,000 members strong. “We've grown very quickly since going open source,” says CTO Andrew Embler. “The core application has always been very stable, but in the past we knew there were a few areas we wanted to clean up. With the sitemap improvements and even faster AJAX editing in 5.4 we've really covered the big items on my radar. “
Some architectural changes to better support the needs of enterprise level clients have already allowed some larger organizations to choose concrete5 over Drupal, Joomla!, and WordPress. The additional changes to fully embrace the Zend framework by using Zend Cache and Zend Translate has proven well worth the investment.
“It was great fun showing off the release candidate of 5.4 at SXSW:Interactive this year,' says Franz Maruna, CEO. “We met a lot of Joomla! and Drupal developers who begrudgingly gave us 5 minutes to see the competition, only to walk away 20 minutes later lamenting about time they'd wasted on other systems. I think we showed quite a few people that you can build big powerful sites with concrete5 that really are easy to use.”

Daydream (www.daydream.co.uk), leading Open Source Enterprise Digital Asset Management (DAM) specialists have released a whitepaper that describes a number of best practice techniques IT professionals can use to ensure that DAM is implemented successfully in large or medium sized enterprises.
The report condenses Daydream's experiences of the enterprise DAM market into a report packed with useful advice, checklists and best practice guidelines that will provide IT managers with a useful framework for developing their Digital Asset Management strategy.
The subjects covered include:
<ul>
<li>The benefits DAM systems can offer</li>
<li>Outsourcing vs Insourcing: How to decide which is best</li>
<li>A typical DAM project team: staffing requirements</li>
<li>Roles and responsibilities for IT managers</li>
<li>The importance of training to successful implementations</li>
<li>Hosting, support and maintenance of DAM systems</li>
<li>Selecting a vendor: what to consider</li>
</ul>
Ralph Windsor, Managing Director of Daydream said:
<blockquote>
“Although most DAM systems tend to be procured by marketing departments, we have found that IT managers are frequently asked to act as internal consultants and advise on best practice. There is a limited amount of information available about what to expect at an enterprise level and how to formulate an effective strategy.”
</blockquote>
Windsor continues:
<blockquote>
“Many IT managers may wrongly assume DAM to either simply about storage facilities or the same as ECM systems like SharePoint. This can be problematic when they come to discuss requirements with marketers. In this report, we aim to dispel some myths and present practical advice for successfully delivering DAM whether using internal or outsourced resources.”
</blockquote>
The 30 page report: “Enterprise Digital Asset Management for IT Professionals” is being made available free of charge via the reports section on Daydream's website: <a href="http://www.daydream.co.uk/reports.asp">http://www.daydream.co.uk/reports.asp</a>

From within the pTools CMS, social media content can be easily re-distributed to any site anytime in any format on any social network.
A key feature, pTools ‘TwitterDocs’, allows users to post to Twitter as they publish content through the CMS. There is no need to separately login to Twitter, and the content-related Tweet is controlled and managed within the CMS and its workflows.
In addition to Twitter, customer content is presented on Facebook, LinkedIn, and indexed in live search engine results such as Google &amp; Bing with no pre-or post-publishing tweaking required.
The new features, which will be launched at the Digital Media Conference in Dublin at the end of the month, meaning that businesses can now manage multiple online campaigns for different demographics through one content management engine.
Commenting on the development, Lee Annett, customer relationship and business development manager at pTools says: “Content is at the heart of the social networking experience and pTools Content Management Software (CMS) is helping customers get the most from their online content without the need to manually republish content to every ‘current’ social media site.  From within the CMS, content can be pushed out to potentially thousands of online locations and draws visitors back into the central website.
pTools is a leading enterprise web content management software vendor providing high-level feature functionality that delivers powerful content management for critical enterprise initiatives.

CMS Provider pTools Adds Social Media Content Distribution To Its Software

<a href="http://www.vyre.com">VYRE</a> Ltd, developer of award winning content management platform VYRE Unify, is pleased to announce a new strategic partnership with publishing software specialist Wave2 Media Solutions Ltd. The two companies have signed an OEM agreement for VYRE to license Wave2’s core product, The Wave2 Publishing Platform, for integration within VYRE Unify.
The Wave2 Publishing Platform is a highly scalable and powerful rules engine for the automatic creation of any type of document from simple display ads through to highly creative layouts and complex multi page documents. It allows publishers, marketers and content providers to create their own advertising and marketing material whilst enabling them to both save costs and generate new revenue.
Chris Hodges, founder of Wave2, says. “We are very pleased to have formed this relationship with VYRE. The combination of the Wave2 Publishing Platform and the VYRE Unify product will create an unbeatable solution for anyone needing to implement a multimedia brand management service. From the very beginning of our discussions with VYRE, it was obvious to us that our respective products would be a perfect fit. They share the same architecture and technology, as well as complement each other perfectly in terms of functionality. As a result, the integration work is already very advanced”
VYRE is integrating The Wave2 Publishing Platform into its next release of VYRE Unify version 4.5.1 to provide its own automated creative functions.  VYRE Unify 4.5.1 will be available in spring 2010.
Andy Peters, CEO of VYRE, explains: “Integrating this kind of technology into the VYRE Unify platform has been a part of the overall development strategy for a while, but finding the right partner and solution was key. We looked at more than 25 different partners before we decided on Wave2. In the end it had become increasingly clear that Wave2 stood out head and shoulders above the competition, for all sorts of reasons: the flexibility of the solution, the development environment, the attitude of Wave2 themselves and the understanding that they brought to the table of our needs and our clients’ all being critical.”
Andy continues: “We have had a number of clients express a need for this technology, and we are confident that, as an integrated component of VYRE Unify, we will be able to deliver fast, efficient, high quality and highly cost effective solutions to our clients that will allow them to gain more control over the production of their marketing and other collateral. It will improve their speed to market, their overall production quality, their brand consistency, their bottom line and ease their workload. We are delighted to be working with Wave2.”

A security issue was introduced with phpBB 3.07 which allowed users to bypass permission settings if any of the following conditions were met:
<ul>
<li>Feeds are enabled</li>
<li>Any of the posts or topics feeds are enabled</li>
<li>The unauthorised user – or one of the groups they are a member of – have forum permissions set on a private forum</li>
<li>If you have excluded a forum from the list of forums that provide feeds, it is unaffected</li>
</ul>
The full announcement:
<blockquote>
We are sorry to announce the immediate release of phpBB 3.0.7-PL1 to address a security issue which was introduced in 3.0.7, unfortunately the issue wasn't noticed during testing and has only surfaced a week after the release of 3.0.7.
We promised working feeds for phpBB 3.0.7. Sadly, we were not able to deliver on that promise – a critical bug in the permission handling for feeds slipped past. To all people who already have updated to 3.0.7, it is of critical importance to update to 3.0.7-PL1.
</blockquote>
You can do so by downloading the latest release from <a href="http://www.phpbb.com/downloads/">their website</a>.
