Generis has released version 3 of its <a href="http://www.generiscorp.com/cara.html">CARA</a> product – the world's full functionality document management web application that provides a single interface to all CMIS-compliant repositories. Generis has released CARA3 for Documentum, SharePoint and Alfresco, with releases for the file system, FileNet and LiveLink in the coming months. CARA3 connects to the repositories using the very latest CMIS (Content Management Interoperability Services) functionality agreed by the major content management vendors which allows building of a common set of functionality to be used on the multiple repositories. Functions that are missing in CMIS support for individual repositories are either built by Generis (and will be replaced once that platform fully supports CMIS) or not available. Each repository implementation also features many additional features not yet part of the CMIS specification.
Built on the Google Web Toolkit, using the <a href="http://www.extjs.com">EXT JS</a> extensions CARA3 provides full authoring, review, approval and publishing functionality to end users together with:
<ul>
<li>Faster performance</li>
<li>Improved ergononmics, including many functions reduced from 7+ clicks to 1 click, and from 3 screens to 1 screen.</li>
<li>Functionality for complex documents in true multi-user environment.</li>
<li>Ease of use which reduces training and implementation costs.</li>

According to a recent post on the Exponent CMS website, a large number of websites running Exponent CMS have been successfully attacked by hackers.
From the post:
The type of hack and process for execution has been identified. With the combination of some clever SQL passed through via url to certain Exponent Modules lacking proper request value sanitation, the hackers were able to pull up information from the user table. The password for Exponent users are converted to an MD5 hash before being saved to the database, but if the password isn't strong enough, the hackers were able to easily take the MD5 hash to any number of websites that will <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=reverse+md5&amp;ie=utf-8&amp;oe=utf-8&amp;aq=t&amp;rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&amp;client=firefox-a" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reverse the md5 hash</a>, giving the hacker's the access they need to mess with an exponent site to their liking.
Details about how this hack was accomplished, and how to protect your site against these attacks are <a href="http://www.exponentcms.org/index.php?module=bbmodule&amp;section=75&amp;action=view_thread&amp;id=10269&amp;src=@random44ca678e9ecf0" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">explained in detail on this thread</a>.

The second alpha of the upcoming <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/tag/drupal">Drupal</a> 7 release has been made available.
From the <a href="http://drupal.org/drupal-7.0-alpha2">announcement</a>:
Our first Drupal 7 alpha version was released just over a month ago. Today, we're proud to announce the release of the second alpha version of Drupal 7.x for your further testing and feedback. <a href="http://drupal.org/drupal-7.0-alpha1">The first alpha announcement</a> provided a comprehensive list of improvements made since Drupal 6.x, so in this announcement we'll concentrate on how you can help ensure that Drupal 7 is released as soon as possible and is as rock solid as the previous Drupal releases that you've grown to love!
The most notable change for developers is moving <code>$form['#field']</code> to <code>$form_state</code>. This makes field forms more resilient to form_alters and debugging became a lot less tedious. Comment body became a field and new fields can be added to comments through the field UI module. And congratulations to the docs team and associated helpers for their outstanding work in enhancing and correcting lots of API documentation this release.
We've also fixed a number of issues since the previous alpha, most importantly one that caused all files to be deleted after six hours.
You can download from the <a href="http://drupal.org/drupal-7.0-alpha2">announcement</a> or Drupal.org

Drupal 7.0 Alpha 2 has been released

A new release of the open source cms, e107 has been made available. See below for an except from the post by McFly of the dev team:
This is a non-urgent upgrade. We've produced this release for a few reasons:
1) As part of the move to subversion, we changed the headers of most files to contain the new svn related keywords. Unfortunately this means that all users must replace their current files with the new ones, otherwise the file inspector won't like it. You will notice the upgrade packages are much larger for this upgrade.
2) I have a script that I wrote that creates the builds from cvs. I was able to set a few values in a configuration file, kick of the script, and have nice release files a minute or so later. Well, obviously the cvs related commands are no longer valid. I've recoded most of the script and it now uses svn commands. It can now also handle 0.7 and 0.8 builds (previous version could not). It was used to create this build, so it needs live testing.
3) We needed to get everyone upgraded successfully to .19 with the new build system, just in case we needed to get a security release out quickly (nothing known about currently). Allowing everyone to carefully upgrade now as they find time is much easier than trying to do it quickly later.
Please carefully perform your upgrades and let us know of any problems you find.
As always, you can find the link to downloads here: <a href="http://e107.org/edownload.php">http://e107.org/edownload.php</a>

OpenText has tendered an offer to purchase Nstein Technologies for $35 million, pending approval by shareholders. According to Open Text President and Chief Executive Officer John Shackleton, Nstein will extend the breadth of Open Text's ECM offerings and further Open Text's position as the leading independent ECM vendor in the marketplace. Based in Montreal, Nstein's solutions are sold across major market segments, such as media and information services, life sciences and government.
“This is a good fit for two strong Canadian companies,” said Shackleton. “With Nstein, we have an opportunity to continue to grow as Canada's largest software company, expanding Open Text's presence in Quebec. Nstein will also add complementary technology and expertise that enhances our ECM solutions portfolio.”
“This agreement helps Nstein take its next major step into the future,” said Luc Filiatreault, President and Chief Executive Officer of Nstein. “We've always been committed to delivering innovative solutions to our customers and partners. Our agreement with Open Text is in keeping with this commitment. Customers will benefit from an expanded ECM solutions portfolio, and a shared vision for innovative solutions going forward.”
The transaction is expected to close in the second calendar quarter and is subject to customary closing conditions, including approval of two-thirds of the votes cast by Nstein s shareholders and applicable regulatory and stock exchange approvals. A special meeting of Nstein's shareholders is expected to be held to consider the amalgamation in early April, 2010.
The definitive agreement includes customary non-solicitation and right to match provisions and Nstein has agreed to pay Open Text a termination fee in certain circumstances if the amalgamation is not completed. Nstein's Board of Directors received a fairness opinion from Pagemill Partners L.L.P. that the consideration to be received under the amalgamation is fair from a financial point of view to Nstein shareholders. The directors and officers of Nstein, and certain shareholders of Nstein, collectively representing in aggregate approximately 48 percent of the issued and outstanding shares of Nstein have agreed to enter into voting agreements with Open Text to vote in favour of the amalgamation.
