In reponse to a security threat that allowed potential attackers to bypass a security check to verify a user requested a password reset, the WordPress team has announced a new release.
<a href="http://wordpress.org/development/2009/08/2-8-4-security-release/">WordPress</a> 2.8.4 is a security update to address this threat and keep the popular open source blog software free of security risks.

“Yesterday a vulnerability was discovered: a specially crafted URL could be requested that would allow an attacker to bypass a security check to verify a user requested a password reset. As a result, the first account without a key in the database (usually the admin account) would have its password reset and a new password would be emailed to the account owner. This doesn’t allow remote access, but it is very annoying.
We fixed this problem last night and have been testing the fixes and looking for other problems since then. <a href="http://wordpress.org/download/">Version 2.8.4 which fixes all known problems is now available for download</a> and is highly recommended for all users of WordPress.”

WordPress 2.8.4 Security Release available

Open Text will release Vignette Content Management version 8.0 and Vignette Portal version 8.0 in the second half of 2009. There seems to be quite a bit of confusion with regards to the value of the open source CMS market. For this reason, we're asking why you use open source cms products?
What makes you choose them over commercial options?
I've noticed more and more that there are quite a few comments being said that are not factual with regards to the value of open source products. Some commercial vendors, for instance, tend to weigh in with the argument that open source products are not well supported and are less secure than theirs.
What is your take on this? How do you defend the open source CMS market? Or do you agree with these arguments?

Why do you use open source CMS products?

AxCMS.net is known as a powerful enterprise web content management system – with separated systems for managing the content and a second (or more in load balanced scenarios) for the productive environment.

<a href="http://e107.org">e107</a> has finally released a new version with 0.7.16. This popular open source cms appeared to have gone on hiatus for quite some time but it appears they were in fact working on a new release.

It has been way too long since we've seen a release from e107 but the wait is over with 0.7.16

<a href="http://www.pligg.com">Pligg</a> CMS began a template design competition today that offers cash prizes to the top Pligg templates.
The purpose of the competition is to foster new Pligg templates and to give Pligg designers an opportunity to earn both prominence and money for their efforts.
Pligg's recent Design Gallery addition to Pligg.com has been a great resource for Pligg designers. It showcases the best Pligg templates and lets users comment and vote on Pligg sites.
This contest will bring some fresh styles to Pligg CMS for others to work from and hopefully make it easier for designers to find a template closer to their specifications without having to alter much.
All templates entered into the contest must select an open source license so that others will be able to re-use the template on their own projects.

Impress CMS is a popular open source CMS that spawned not too long ago from the Xoops project. It has since gained increasing recognition and proven itself to be here to stay.

The Edentity team has been hard at work this summer preparing for an onslaught of new features and bug fixes for their flagship product, <a href="https://agilitycms.com">Agility CMS</a>.
With the August update, they are providing a whopping 31 new features and 189 bug fixes. Some of the primary improvements are:
Per page template editing which means you can quickly alter each individual page's display with a few clicks.
