Site Redirection, Automatic Device Detection Tailors Content to Mobile Devices
Whether the end user is on a tablet or mobile phone, site developers can use DotNetNuke 6.1 to redirect mobile users to landing pages optimized for their device. Using adaptive rendering techniques available with CSS and HTML 5, DotNetNuke 6.1 automatically detects the specific characteristics of thousands of mobile devices and tailors the design and content of the page as desired by the site authors.   Multiple site types can be supported for individual pages that allow for the delivery of specific experiences for tablets, Android phones or other devices.

Content Previewer Speeds Delivery with Early Testing
DotNetNuke 6.1 provides a mobile content previewer that makes it easy for developers, designers and content owners to optimize the mobile experience of their websites early in the process without requiring physical access to thousands of different mobile devices.  The content previewer supports Android, Apple iOS, Windows Phone 7 and Blackberry devices, all without leaving the DotNetNuke platform.
Mobile Website Template Speeds Design, Delivery
A mobile website template is provided with DotNetNuke 6.1 that sets a new standard for flexible and adaptive layout for various devices including smartphones and tablets. Out of the box, DotNetNuke 6.1 provides a best practice for delivering mobile content beyond device constraints. The template is responsive to different screen resolutions so visitors will always have the most optimal experience on their device.
Site Groups Simplifies User Management
DotNetNuke 6.1 provides a new capability to simplify the management of users across multiple websites.  In addition to a single sign-on capability for content owners, a simplified set of administration screens allows administrators to set up and manage granular permissions for the same users across many different sites.
Fastest DotNetNuke Ever
A number of client-side performance improvements have been incorporated into DotNetNuke 6.1 that have dramatically reduced the time it takes for website pages to be rendered.  Web requests required to render pages have been reduced by 70%, making this the fastest version of DotNetNuke ever released.
<blockquote>
“Our websites on DotNetNuke 6.1 load blazingly fast compared to previous versions,” stated Robb Bryn, vice president of operations at Cape Fear Webmasters, Inc.  “We now have one super-fast CMS platform that can easily manage all of our websites, regardless of the device viewing the website.  DotNetNuke 6.1 is a breath of fresh air to our content managers, designers and developers.”
 “Consumers and employees expect their mobile interactions to be just as good as their desktop experiences,” stated Mitch Bishop, chief marketing officer for DotNetNuke.  “The new release of DotNetNuke makes it easy for developers, designers and content owners to deliver customized experiences for the customers while leveraging the power of the world’s most popular content management system for the Microsoft ecosystem.”

docSTAR Releases Version 3.12

In today’s world customer relationship management systems are used by millions of businesses, have many applications and can provide extremely valuable information to companies. A good CRM information system will cover a number of areas within an enterprise, ranging from tracking and analytics to streamlining all areas of the sales process and marketing. This in turn allows business leaders to focus and fine-tune all aspects of commerce, leading to a reduction in unnecessary overheads and an increase in profitability.
A website should always be integrated with the business it serves, providing the consumer with a greater insight to the firm. With CRM software effectively merging the various areas of business, the incorporation of a content management system will provide the customer with a more personalised experience and a longer, more profitable relationship for the vendor.
With both systems being able to organise, sort and store large volumes of data, one may wonder how CRM differs from CMS. Whilst CMS is fantastic for information distribution, CRM systems allow for more personal content segmentation and analysis. When used in tandem, an integrated network delivers a targeted and effective distribution of information. This concept may come into play for example with an online clothing and fashion company. The CRM system will collect and hold information regarding the various aspects of the customers past purchases such as styles, sizes, brands and costs. These details can then be used for personalised email campaigns, focusing on the client’s shopping habits based on history. Synchronising the two platforms will also enable easy inventory management, using the CRM application to log item sales whilst the CSM software will track what is in stock.
Content management systems have allowed the separation of the technical and practical aspects of maintaining a website. Applying changes and making adjustments is now a lot simpler. This is highly useful in a world where quick decisions regarding areas such as marketing need to be made. There are many new CRM solutions that are now easy to manage yourself or companies that can help. With <a href="http://www.salesforce.com/crm/">CRM solutions</a> able to follow the spread of information, tracking “clicks”, “shares”, “likes” and responses, one is able to monitor and tweak on site campaigns and offers in real time. Synchronization between the two platforms also negates the necessity to manually transfer data, leading to a faster, cheaper and more accurate shift of information.
If your system is not yet merged or you are in the process of rethinking in house software solutions, it is well worth thinking ahead and bringing the two applications together. With greater competition, reducing profit margins and increased customer awareness, there may not be a more important time to take action.

The Importance of Integrated CMS & CRM Systems

Verst, the intelligent, all-in-one website platform that helps content creators build incredible brands and businesses, today announced new product enhancements, details on customer success, and a partnership with SendGrid. The rapid innovation and adoption of the publishing platform demonstrates significant interest in a new solution that levels the playing field for all publishers.
One of the most powerful effects of ubiquitous internet access is the plethora of outlets for expression and communication. However, this abundance of channels has come at a cost, as managing and monetizing content, improving performance, and developing deeper audience relationships is now increasingly difficult, time-consuming and often requires technical expertise. Whether the goal is financial independence or to share a passion and make money doing it, content creators need a powerful hub for their digital presence. To meet the demands of their audience and their business, creators must look beyond cobbled-together toolsets and leverage the same first-class tools and insights that make major media brands successful. This is what Verst delivers, out of the box.
“I’m super excited about this release because of the emerging paradigm shift towards subscription revenue and other forms of direct monetization as a core component of all content creators' businesses,” said AJ Frank, CEO of Verst. “Our vision is to democratize these powerful monetization mechanisms by radically simplifying the setup and management involved. Ultimately, we want to empower creators to focus on what they do best: growing and differentiating their brands by creating compelling content.”
<h2>NEW FEATURES</h2>
● Paid Content Subscriptions. A turnkey way for any creator to activate a subscription offering and get paid for the value they create. By simply flipping a switch, Verst publishers can start delineating specific posts as premium content that sits behind a paywall. While advertising rewards quantity over quality, this type of monetization aligns the interests of publishers and consumers by minimizing reliance on third parties and creating a better user experience.
● Homepages. Verst makes it simple for creators to add a fully customized and professionally designed homepage to the front of their site. Creators pick the modules, content, and design they love.
● New pricing tier. Newer creators who don’t yet have the audience size for monetization and optimization can now take advantage of an entry-level pricing tier. Users can leverage Verst’s unparalleled simplicity to get their media business started with all the personalized branding they require for just $12/month.
● Content migration. Creators seeking to evolve beyond an outdated WordPress site or expand beyond Medium can keep their existing domain and Verst will import all of the content, ensuring every link to the old site lands in the right place. Creators can establish a fresh redesign, own their audience, boost their SEO score, and cure their publishing pain points by making the switch.
● SendGrid partnership. Email remains the number one communication method to keep people engaged. With this partnership Verst creators can integrate with SendGrid’s award-winning email delivery platform so they can master this fundamental touchpoint. And SendGrid customers can easily migrate their current website to Verst, gaining aesthetics and sophistication to rival the web’s top media brands.
Verst levels the playing field for publishers of all sizes. In a cacophonous landscape of clickbait, filtered photos, and ad-covered pages, creators deserve a clean, beautiful, manageable platform to call home. With Verst, the creators of today and tomorrow get the same tech that powers BuzzFeed and the New York Times, right out of the box.
CUSTOMERS TELL THE STORY
● Ian Capstick: Social entrepreneur, political analyst, builds his brand, drives community
Ian is one of Canada's best known political pundits, technologists and social activists. He is using Verst to actively generate speaking opportunities, aggregate his media appearances, and develop community with his fans/followers who can set up 1:1 conversations with him directly through his site. “Verst enables and empowers me to be one of the most connected and interactive political analysts in my field. A lot of political commentators hide behind the scenes. Love me or hate me, you’ll be able to access me,” said Ian. “Through optimization, A/B testing, CTAs, Verst gives me a better understanding of my audience. I need to know what they care about and why. In turn, Verst also gives my audience access to me, in a manageable way.”
● Shout!: Building a Gen Z global citizen media business
After visiting refugee camps in Iraq and Syria in 2015 and 2016, Flavius Mihaies created Shout! to share global stories that Americans should take note of that are often ignored by mainstream media outlets, from the perspective of those who are living the reality. The content is created by a combination of aspiring Gen Z and established (Al Jazeera, Reuters, Politico, et al.) reporters and commentators. “Our goal with Verst will be to engage with the audience in a more direct way than we’ve been able to do on Facebook,” said Flavius. “We want to develop interaction directly between our audience and our journalists and we’re very excited about the upcoming paid subscription feature to solidify our place as a legitimate, growing, global media brand.”
● Stigma: From #1 mental health app to community, content, and monetization online
In order to generate new users, Stigma needed a marketing channel that went beyond organic App Store growth. “The biggest testament is that we recently closed a partnership with one of the largest resources for health information, and I don’t think we could’ve done that without Verst,” said Dan Seider, founder, Stigma. “The site represents our brand, and the quality of it speaks to our high standards as a company. I love how Verst allows us to help inspire people and promote social good.”

Siteimprove, a global software-as-a-service (SaaS) company that empowers website editors to continuously test, fix and optimize their work through actionable content and analytics insights, has launched a new Content Management System (CMS) plug-in.
“Our efficient and convenient CMS plug-in helps bring a superior digital experience to life,” said Nicolai Munch Andersen, Product Owner, Siteimprove. “Web editors and content creators can now put Siteimprove to work where our service is most valuable to them: during the content creation and editing process in their CMS platforms.”

Most readers of CMS Critic will be familiar with WordPress’s huge user numbers. What you might be less familiar with is the extent to which the semantic publishing platform’s popularity might in part be driven by its friendliness to the digital marketing community and, in particular, SEO professionals.
Search engine optimisation specialists have become major standard bearers for WordPress. An SEO specialist often runs at least one website outside of their main job and WordPress is nearly always the chosen platform. By why is WP so favoured by this particular community; what are the features that SEO types love; and what plugins should be in your WordPress SEO toolbox?
<h3>SEOs aren’t technical</h3>
While search engine optimisation specialists are often very literate and numerate they very rarely have any technical or coding skills. So a CMS that sets up a brand new website in under 10 minutes with no need for advanced technical knowledge is a gift to them.
Search professionals appreciate not only the ease of set up but the huge WordPress community and masses of ‘how to’ style articles on the web. This vast cache of resources means that despite very little coding know-how an SEO specialist can make sizeable customisations to their WordPress site by accessing the hive-mind.
<h3>WordPress has SEO baked in</h3>
Straight out of the box WordPress has a ton of SEO-friendly features.
<ul>
<li>URLs are a factor in how a page ranks. WordPress lets you choose from a variety of permalinks to increase the chances of other sites linking back to you and to get all important keywords into the URL of a page.</li>
<li>Pingbacks and Trackbacks join WordPress sites together in something resembling a social network. Other site owners are notified when you reference them and vice-versa, increasing the chances that they’ll link back to you.</li>
<li>Images are increasingly important to SEO as search engines pulls them into results pages and social networks like Google+, LinkedIn and Facebook pull them into posts. WordPress makes image formatting easy and lets you edit the all-important alt-image attribute without any extra plugins or customisation.</li>
<li>A huge number of available themes lets you pick a site structure that compliments your SEO efforts without requiring any technical input.</li>
</ul>
Of course many of these features have been prompted by a desire to follow best digital publishing practices rather than a desire to make WordPress a great platform for SEO. But a large part of the work of an SEO specialist is ensuring web pages adhere to best practice in the eyes of Google and the other search engines, so the benefits are there regardless of intent.
<h3>There are a ton of WordPress plugins for SEO</h3>
Here are a few of the most important:
<ul>
<li><a href="http://wordpress.org/plugins/google-analytics-for-wordpress/">Google Analytics for WordPress</a> inserts tracking code into all your pages automatically so that all your traffic data is available in Google’s Analytics tool. This plugin from Yoast doesn’t just provide vanilla tracking but also lets you customise where the tracking code is placed, how downloads and clicks on outbound links are tracked etc.</li>
<li><a href="http://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-seo/">WordPress SEO</a>, also authored by Yoast, is an extremely powerful and feature-packed SEO plugin that lets you edit meta-data alongside a page’s content, analyse the page for optimisation based on a specified keyword phrase, <a href="http://moz.com/learn/seo/canonicalization">canonicalise your content</a>, exclude specified pages from being indexed by search engines and it can generate tags and data to help social networks like Facebook recognise your content. It even lets you edit your robots.txt and ht.access files from WordPress.</li>
<li><a href="http://wordpress.org/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/">Google XML sitemaps</a> generates a new XML sitemap every time you update your site’s content. An XML sitemap helps the spiders of Google, Bing et al to find all the pages on your site, increasing both the likelihood and speed with which they get indexed by search engines.</li>
<li>Social media and SEO are becoming increasingly intertwined as the search engines incorporate social data into their algorithms. This <a href="http://wordpress.org/plugins/social/screenshots/">plugin from Mailchimp</a> allows your users to comment via their social media profiles, lets you pull in social media mentions as comments and lets you automatically broadcast your new posts to your social networks. <a href="http://wordpress.org/plugins/digg-digg/">Digg Digg</a> adds the essential social sharing buttons to your pages and posts.</li>
<li>Tracking the end goals of your SEO efforts is vital. <a href="http://wordpress.org/plugins/contact-form-7/">Contact form 7</a> provides simple but very customisable contact forms to which it is easy to add Google analytics tracking.</li>
</ul>
The vast number of plugins available for WordPress mean that whatever your SEO strategy you’ll almost certainly find a combination to suit. By leveraging the power of WP plugins you can make major SEO changes to your site without ever having to login to an FTP server or write a single line of code.
<h3>You can write your own SEO-friendly theme</h3>
The main problem with using plugins for all your SEO needs is that they have the potential to slow down your page load times – another increasingly important factor in search engine algorithms.
Luckily a decent WordPress developer can bake all the features that an SEO consultant specifies, and which would otherwise be provided by plugins, directly into a customised theme. This allows for faster page load times, a better user experience and better rankings in search.
<h3>An admission</h3>
I have to admit here that I don’t have a great deal of experience with using other Content Management Systems. But, from the perspective of an SEO professional who’s never written a line of code in his life, it would take a lot of persuasion to pull me away from a platform that requires so little programming knowledge, that offers so many options for customisation, that has so many bespoke SEO plugins and that is supported by such a large community of search experts.

Why WordPress is a gift to SEO professionals

When thinking about which landing page platform to use for your brand, the quantity of your landing pages matter just as much as their quality. Choose a platform that can generate many landing pages, all the while keeping personalization at scale without compromising quality.
The benefits to having more landing pages are the various conversion and inbound marketing opportunities. More landing pages means a higher chance that visitors convert, in addition to more places to display social media links and promotions.
More landing pages also mean more targeting opportunities. Most leading landing page platforms have integrated analytics that gather information from incoming traffic, such as location, interests, search activity, and more. This will give you more data to work with to optimize your marketing campaign.
With each landing page platform comes unique strengths that cater to each brand’s needs.
It’s also important to keep in mind that most features are universal across all landing page platforms. To list a couple of strengths of some leading platforms: Unbounce has a vast array of features including full customizable templates and fast page load times; Leadpages allows for generating quick high-quality pages; Instapage has a user-friendly interface with diverse templates; OptimizePress provide options for a more “branded” look; <a href="https://rallymind.com" target="_blank">RallyMind</a> deploys 10s to 100s of landing pages with unique fields.
The ideal landing page platform is able keep up with both small and large-scale campaigns with the ability to efficiently customize specific fields within each landing page. Rethink scalability for your brand.

Rethink Scalability When Generating Landing Pages
