JIRA 4.3 & Confluence 3.5 Released

Bitrix, Inc., announced the release of a new version of its content management system (CMS) today – Bitrix Site Manager ASP.NET 5.5, targeted at website content editors, designers and developers who prefer using the Microsoft ASP.NET platform for their web projects. Key changes in the new version include the availability of several quick-start solutions for typical website categories. Additionally, there has been significant improvement in performance and ORM modules.
Bitrix Site Manager ASP.NET 5.5 tremendously simplifies website development by offering turnkey websites – a set of ready-to-go design and content templates for corporate, personal, and community websites that are available from inside the regular install wizard.
Like the PHP-version of BSM, site solution structures can be changed at any time, and each has variations in general design and color schemes.
Special emphasis is placed on social tools in the new version: blogs have been greatly improved, as well as forums, personal communications systems and the ratings features.
Under the auspices of Microsoft’s representation company in the Russian Federation, a new project, GotDotNet.Ru , has been launched on the foundation of Bitrix Site Manager ASP.NET. The site is a community for .NET framework developers. Today the site has more than 80,000 visitors, over 2 million forum posts, and more than 10,000 blog entries.

Bitrix Site Manager ASP.NET launched

ocProducts are please to announced the final release of ocPortal version 6. This is a major new version, incorporating many improvements that improve the usability of ocPortal in a number of areas, whilst keeping compatibility high.
Key usability changes in this version of ocPortal include new “install profiles” built into the Setup Wizard allow you to easily set up a new site with many of the elements pre-configured for your needs. Choose from: blog, community site, info site, portfolio and shopping site. We've gone to significant efforts to tune each profile (particularly the blog profile) to ensure clean operation and suitability for purpose.
We have made it easier than ever to strip back your installation of ocPortal, keeping your installation small and efficient. We have achieved this by reducing the number of ocPortal modules that are designated as “core” features. These modules are still bundled by default, but this simplifies ocPortal for small sites and blogs. These revisions to the core system now make it it easy to:

<li>Disable RSS.</li>
<li>Cut back the Members system.</li>
<li>Cut back some of the forum features.</li>
<li>Remove more features, admin features or the whole collaboration zone.</li>

<h3>Helping users:</h3>
We have added two new features to help webmasters from within their own admin zone. The first is a new chat room for web masters, which enables them to talk with other ocPortal webmasters from their own admin zone. Secondly, we have made it very easy to file a usability report from within ocPortal. This feature is aimed at less experienced users, so they can let us know when something isn't as clear as it could be.
<h3>Performance testing</h3>
We have tested millions of entries to ensure huge ocPortal sites run smoother. We have improved speed performance meaning our speed is now similar to our competitors regardless of us being a much more flexible system. As part of the above, more things can be paginated in the system, such as comment topics or buddy lists.
Our new ‘Advanced admin cache' feature will blow your mind. Once enabled, Google Chrome webmasters will have page's cache locally on their own machines, whilst the server generates the latest version of the page in the background and delivers it slightly later (e.g. 1 second later, whatever it would be if the AAC cache was not enabled). This means you can click around ocPortal at lightning speed as the server has to do zero work, yet nothing is actually cached in the annoying sense. Saving a few seconds does not seem like much, but it really makes things much more fun.
Other Notable Changes include:

<li>We have a new WYSIWYG editor, we have Switched WYSIWYG editor to CKEditor: better editor, with added support for IE9, Safari, Google Chrome and Opera.</li>
<li>Gallery Improvements including galleries now support SWF files and now accepts direct Facebook and Youtube video links.</li>
<li>Our default theme now has Mobile support including better mobile theme detection and framework to meet modern hardware.</li>
<li>Added A new main_multi_content block has been added that allows you to embed sets of any kind of content, sorted in a number of ways.</li>
<li>Added webm and HTML5 video support.</li>
<li>New functionality for creating temporary usergroup memberships.</li>
<li>Improved Breadcrumb usability and flexibility.</li>
<li>New support for writing addons for associating to videos on external video sites, rather than it being limited to Facebook and Youtube via hard-coding.</li>
<li>Fixed issues with dark theme wizard themes.</li>
</ul>

pTools Content Management Expands into Canadian Market

Introducing PeecFW, an Open Source CMS

Kentico CMS is one of those content management systems that has continued to impress me with each new release. With version 5.5 R2, some of the additions made to the CMS include new document and project management, Microsoft Azure support, WebDAV, Workgroups and Sharepoint 2010 support.  Does it continue to impress? Read on to find out in today's Kentico Review.
In this review, I will be looking at the new features that have been added. If you are looking for a review of the back end functions and page editing, you can read my <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/kentico-review-net-at-its-finest/">previous review</a>.
First on the list of new features is…
<h3>Project Management</h3>
To access the new Project Management features of Kentico 5.5 R2, you need to log into your CMS desk. Once inside, navigate to the tools tab and you will see the new section:

Once inside, you will see a list of any existing projects as well as a number of tabs labelled: Projects, Tasks, Configuration.
On the main tab, Projects, the screen looks like this:

As you can see, I already have a Test Project which I've added here. It shows the name of the project, the deadline, any progress that has been made and of course, action icons to edit or delete the project.
If you want to add a new project, you simply click on the link and will be taken to a page where you can enter the new project's details.

As you can see in the screenshot above, you have a number of options to configure for the project. The name, code name, goals of the project as well as the start date and deadline. If you wish to assign an owner different then yourself, you can do so using the selection dialog and you will be given the option to choose another user from within the CMS.
There are a number of status options such as On track, At risk, Finished, etc. that can be changed as the project progresses. There is even an option to select a specific page from within the CMS to use as a project page. As an example, let's say you work for a large corporate entity who has a number of projects going on at any given time.
You have the ability to custom design a page that is not published to the the public facing side of the website and use it as a basis for your project. You could incorporate any of Kentico's many features into this page and assign page specific security if you like. This gives your project managers a great deal of flexibility.
To modify your project, click the Pencil icon beside the project name and you will see a screen similar to this:

Within the Tasks tab, you will see a list of each task within the project, including their assignee, progress and status. To get a description of the status, simply hover your mouse over the status icon.
On the General tab you can edit your project details and the Security tab gives you access to Kentico's powerful security options for the project.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the Project Management component in a nutshell.
<h3>Document Management</h3>
Managing documents on your site can be done using a web part or component that you add to the site.
Once added, you gain full document management capabilities such as:
<ul>
<li>Direct editing using Microsoft Office or other applications via WebDAV</li>
<li>File management – Copy/Delete/Open/Edit/Upload</li>
<li>Permissions management per file and per document library</li>
<li>Check-in/check-out</li>
<li>Workflow</li>
<li>Document archiving</li>
<li>Version history</li>
</ul>
Within the module, you are able to manage the library, add new documents and manage existing ones directly on the page.

Clicking on the dropdown to the left of each of the individual documents brings up a context menu with a number of options:

From within this menu, you can view everything from Version History to the properties of the document itself. You can even archive or modify the permissions directly from here.  The Document library allows you to upload translated versions of the document in other languages. This is great for a multilingual website.
Security Permissions are set with simply check boxes as shown below:

This is a very welcome addition to the CMS and adds a new level of capabilities to an already capable system.
<h3>Webdav Support</h3>
For those who are unfamiliar with Webdav, it is a protocol that has been incorporated into this version of Kentico and allows you to edit documents within Microsoft Office and save directly back to the document repository on the CMS.  The Kentico website describes it as follows:
<blockquote>Kentico CMS comes with built-in WebDAV support which allows you to open, edit and save documents from Kentico CMS using Microsoft Office and some other applications. It means you do not have to save the document on the disk, make changes locally and then upload them. So it greatly simplifies the way you work with documents published on your website or intranet.</blockquote>
This is one of those handy additions that further enhances the user friendliness of the CMS and works exactly as one might expect. <h3>Conclusion</h3>
The addition of these new features put Kentico a level above it's competitors. The development team continues to impress and add user friendly functionality that puts creativity into the hands of the end user with style and simplicity.

MBC Chooses Magnolia CMS

A new version of CMS Made Simple 1.9.4 has been announced. This new release includes a number of important issues such as supporting newer versions of MySQL, and miscelaneous caching issues. They have also implemented a few performance improvements that should result in a minor performance boost for most websites.

File Path Shortening: Ensures Nothing Gets Lost in Translation
For many developers, the file path length limitation inherent with the Windows operating system has been a challenge. Now, with TDS Version 3.0, the original file path name chosen by a developer is captured and safely
stored in the TDS project, and the developer can then create a shorter, more universal file path nickname for everyone on the team to use when storing the item on a file system – all without compromising the structure of the content within Sitecore and Visual Studio. The new shortened name only appears in the file system and source control system, while the original name is retained in Sitecore and Visual Studio.
Field-Level Syncing: Change Field Values Automatically Without Changing Entire Item
Sitecore development teams and content editors can now enjoy a more harmonious and productive relationship while eliminating the risk for error thanks to TDS 3.0’s new field-level synchronization feature. It extends the “Deploy Once” feature on previous versions of TDS and gives more flexibility to the development team without compromising the field values set by editors.
With field level syncing, the development team can change or set specific field values for content items like security workflow, and rendering values, even after a skeleton hierarchy has already been deployed. This is all done seamlessly, without overwriting field values set by content editors. A valuable time saver, TDS 3.0 ensures an error-free sync, letting you manage all the different types of items offered by Sitecore at any time.
Template Diagrammer Tool: Document Solutions Down To the Smallest Detail
Gone are the days of seeing only “the forest” and not the “trees” within the hierarchy of a solution architecture in Sitecore. With Version 3.0 of TDS, you can visualize the depth of every single relationship within a site’s entire architectural structure down to the smallest detail with our enhanced template diagrammer tool. Plus, now when you zoom in, you will see color-coded dotted lines that serve to more clearly distinguish between different relationships. Also adding to viewer clarity in Version 3.0 is the ability to move items around, filter down and isolate sections, and even print them. Hedgehog Development Releases 3.0 Version of Team Development for Sitecore

KnowledgeTree, a provider of cloud-based document management solutions, today announced the beta release of KnowledgeTree for Outlook, a new product that lets users securely store emails and attachments in KnowledgeTree’s online document vault and interact seamlessly with KnowledgeTree-hosted content directly from their Microsoft Outlook® email application.
KnowledgeTree for Outlook complements KnowledgeTree’s existing KnowledgeTree for Office product, released in December 2010, which allows collaborative editing of cloud-based documents from Microsoft Word®, Excel® and PowerPoint® applications.
Many business users view Microsoft Outlook as their primary productivity application, and using KnowledgeTree for Outlook means they no longer need to toggle between different applications.
