A new open source content management system based on the BSD license has surfaced. It's called Stackbox CMS and it looks pretty slick. Stackbox CMS is an ambitious new open source content management system aimed to end the “backend” editing paradigm for good. All content editing is done directly in-place and on-page through drag-and-drop, JavaScript and AJAX methods.

Newscoop 3.5.3, the open source content management system for professional journalists, was released by Sourcefabric on May 19th. Three is the magic number for Newscoop 3.5.3, with 33 bug fixes ranging from the powerful search interface, to the wysiwyg article edit screen, to the installation process itself.
Community bug reports led to a detailed examination and improvement of the way Newscoop handles lists of articles. A couple of issues relating to user permissions and selecting articles have been dealt with, but perhaps the most significant improvement relates to searching for content in translated issues. Search now pulls up all content from translated issues meaning it’s easier than ever before to manage multilingual sites.
Improvements to the TinyMCE editor performance mean article creation is now more stable. Reported bugs involving the HTML button unnecessarily cleaning code for embedded objects and an occasional failure to save content were identified and zapped. Upgrading also no longer creates an occasional error in the TinyMCE editor.
Newspapers interested in freemium, paywall or enhanced content models will be pleased to know ReCaptcha for Newscoop’s subscription feature is now implemented – bye-bye bots! Blog listings (blogs, entries, comments) were also improved with new pagination and a link to blog entries list added to make finding content easier.
Finally, install, login, backup and restore – the cornerstones of your system engineer’s happiness – all continue to be improved in an effort to make everything on the backend safer and easier to use.

Newscoop 3.5.3 CMS Released for Journalists

The team of developers working on Moodle have recently released Moodle 2.0.3 and Moodle 1.9.12. In addition to a number of bug fixes and small improvements, five security vulnerabilities (4 major, 1 minor) in 2.0.2 and two security vulnerabilities (both major) in 1.9.11 have been discovered and fixed.
As always, they recommend that you upgrade your sites to these latest versions as soon as possible. All 50,000 admins of registered Moodle sites have been notified previously.
Upgrading from 2.0.x or 1.9.x should be very straightforward. LightCMS to offer eCommerce functionality

Holland chooses content management system from GX Software

A new beta of ExpressionEngine CMS has been released to the public.  The most significant change in this release is the move to storing file information in the database. The release also includes includes over 50 bug fixes, the removal of the Blogger API module, as well as the addition of some feature requests.
File Upload Preferences have been moved from the Admin section to the File Manager, and a new permission has been added to control who accesses upload preferences.  Also added is the ability to set ‘thumbnail’ image sizes and watermark preferences per upload directory.  These thumbnails will be created whenever a new image file is uploaded.
A simple ‘Synchronization’ on the File Upload Preferences page allows you to have all files in that directory imported into the database, with the appropriate thumbnails added.  You’ll want to synchronize your files as soon as you’re done updating!
Significant changes have also occurred within the file upload modal, which is now used in both the File Manager and the Publish page.  Expect more changes here as we add back image manipulation, category and other metadata fields, and greater flexibility when using the new thumbnail features.
There are several known issues with this release:
<ul>
<li>The ‘File’ module is available in the installable modules, though tags are not yet available for frontend use</li>
<li>Editing images is not yet reflected in the database records and can result in improper dimensions used in system generated HTML when an edited image is inserted into a textarea field</li>
<li>The Profiler is displayed during a new install or update</li>
</ul>

ExpressionEngine CMS 2.1.5 Beta Released

In preparation for a potential June launch of a stable version, WordPress has begun working on version 3.2.  Today, they released the first beta of this upcoming release for testing. From the announcement:

It seems like just yesterday that we released WordPress 3.1, but it’s actually been almost three months. We’ve spent that time putting together a new release focused on performance improvements, and are ready for our first beta testers!
As always, this is software still in development and we don’t recommend that you run it on a production site — set up a test site just to play with the new version. If you break it (find a bug), please report it, and if you’re a developer, try to help us fix it.
If all goes well, we hope to release WordPress 3.2 by the end of June, though that is (again, as always) subject to change depending on how the beta period goes. The more help we get with testing and fixing bugs, the sooner we will be able to release the final version. <li>New Default Theme. Introducing Twenty Eleven, based on the popular Duster theme. Rotating header images, post format support, and more.</li>
<li>Browse Happy. WordPress is made to work with modern browsers. If you visit your Dashboard using an outdated web browser, we’ll let you know there’s a newer version available.</li>
<li>Admin Bar. We’ve added more links to the admin bar to make it even more useful.</li>
</ul>
Be Aware:
<ul>
<li>WordPress has new system requirements: PHP 5.2.4 and MySQL 5.0.</li>
<li>Internet Explorer 6 will no longer be supported.</li>
<li>The favorites menu has been removed. If you’ve written any plugins that use this menu, it’s time to switch over to an admin bar placement.</li>
</ul>
Known Issues:
<ul>
<li>We haven’t updated the blue admin color scheme yet, so do your testing in the gray zone for best results.</li>
</ul>

Theme and plugin authors, if you haven’t been following the 3.2 development cycle, please start now so that you can update your themes and plugins to be compatible with the newest version of WordPress.
Note to developers: WordPress is built by the contributions of hundreds of developers. If you’d like to see this release come out on time, I encourage you to pitch in. Even if you don’t have time to do testing on the beta version, you could help us by contributing a fix for one of the many bugs we already know about.
