OmniUpdate, the leading web content management system (CMS) provider for higher education, has released version 9.10 of its OU Campus™ CMS. This release includes Image Galleries and Comments that are features of the product's Live Delivery Platform (LDP).
The LDP Image Galleries feature allows users to easily create and manage image galleries in OU Campus. Users can upload images into the gallery; provide a title, caption, and description information; and drag and drop images to modify the order. OU Campus will automatically generate thumbnails based on user-defined settings. LDP Image Galleries are centrally managed assets that can be used on multiple pages, even with a different look and feel.
The LDP Comments feature gives website visitors an opportunity to have their voice heard on the institutional website. Visitors can provide their perspective on a topic, like or dislike a page or another visitor's comment, create comment threads, and much more. Administrators have the tools to monitor all feedback, approve and moderate comments, and have Granular Control over who can input a comment.
Image galleries and interactive feedback are commonly used throughout college websites. OU Campus makes these capabilities easier to deploy using the LDP Image Galleries and Comments features. Customers may opt to use one or both features. Lance Merker, President and CEO of OmniUpdate, stated, “Our clients use a lot of image galleries. We designed the LDP Image Galleries user interface to work very differently than any other image gallery interface in the CMS market. What we've done makes it incredibly simple for users to add and manage image collections on their website — a functionality that is extremely difficult to do in other CMS products. Based on pre-release feedback, I know our customers are going to love this.”

WordPress 3.1.4 is available now and is a maintenance and security update for all previous versions.
This release fixes an issue that could allow a malicious Editor-level user to gain further access to the site. Thanks K. Gudinavicius of SEC Consult for bringing this to our attention. Version 3.1.4 also incorporates several other security fixes and hardening measures thanks to the work of WordPress developers Alexander Concha and Jon Cave of our security team. Consult the <a href="http://core.trac.wordpress.org/log/branches/3.1/?action=stop_on_copy&amp;mode=stop_on_copy&amp;rev=18375&amp;stop_rev=18047&amp;limit=100">change log</a> for more details.

WordPress 3.1.4 released

The new OpenCms 8 contains a greatly improved user interface for content managers and numerous other enhancements. The “Advanced Direct Edit” mode allows content managers to create page content by drag &amp; drop. The new sitemap editor allows creating new pages and rearranging the navigation tree by drag &amp; drop.
OpenCms 8.0.1 is a maintenance release that fixes a number of issues that persisted in the initial release of OpenCms 8. Some new features have been added as well.
The sitemap and ADE configuration has been greatly simplified and improved. The properties of a page can now be modified directly in the ADE editor and a “log out” option has been added to the its menu.
In the sitemap editor there is a new option to go back to the last page viewed in the ADE editor. Moreover the sitemap editor now displays the lock status of pages and sub-pages and handles lock conflicts.
The full text search now also works on MS Office Open XML based documents (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx).
To demonstrate a possible multi language setup, German content was added to the Template III flower showcase.
OpenCms 8 is fully backward compatible to all prior 7.x versions. Templates and other OpenCms developed code from version 7.0 or 7.5 should work “out of the box” with version 8.
An easy to use update wizard is available, too.

Drupal 7.4 has been released as a maintenance release of the popular open source content management system. We're not entirely sure why they chose to release 7.3 and 7.4 side by side as opposed to just calling it 7.4 and being done with it, but hey, all that matters is that there's a new release right?
The fourth maintenance release of the Drupal 7 series. Only bugfixes have been committed. No security fixes are included in this release. New features are only being added to the forthcoming Drupal 8.0 release.
This release includes the security fixes from <a rel="nofollow" href="http://drupal.org/node/1204628">Drupal 7.3</a> which was released alongside Drupal 7.4. No additional security fixes are included.

The Accrisoft story begins back in 1999 when Entrepreneur Jeff Kline, owner of a technology hardware company called Accris, co-founded InternetCoast, a nonprofit initiative to support technology ventures in South Florida and position the region as a global science and technology hub.
They needed a website, so they hired a company called I-Network, who did an excellent job. Realizing that rapid, effective development of powerful websites was the future of computing and technology, Accris acquired the company and built a separate organization concentrating on the software side of the business. Accrisoft was launched as an independent company in 2001.
However, as they built more and more websites, they realized the frustration of working from scratch every time; the answer, Accrisoft decided, was to build a software platform that automated the commonalities so websites could be built in a fraction of the time. There was also the issue of being able to make updates to a website without technical expertise. The new system would have to make it easy for anyone in the organization to update and manage the site.
Accrisoft’s first product was Freedom CMS, a content management system for rapidly building and maintaining dynamic, database-driven websites. Several years later, Accrisoft developed a customer relationship management tool to be known as Endeavor CRM. This product is used to manage every stage of the website development life cycle, from generating leads to providing support.
Closely aligning themselves with the web hosting company Verio, Accrisoft distributed their products through Verio’s reseller channel, where they found great success with other Verio resellers and distributors, developing a global presence.
The company steadily grew over the next decade. The next major milestone came in 2009, when Accrisoft products moved to a software as a service (SaaS) platform, meaning that installation and server management were performed by Accrisoft, allowing resellers to focus on their core businesses.
In 2010, realizing the need to provide both sides of the business with focused attention, the company spun off its website development branch into a separate company called Accrinet, which uses Accrisoft’s software to build websites for its clients. Accrisoft continues to focus on software development, with Accrinet its largest reseller.
Entering their second decade of existence, Accrisoft is well-positioned to capture an ever-larger user base and continue its growth.

Alfresco Announces Alfresco Team for Powerful Content Collaboration

Today's big story is the acquisition of FatWire Software by none other than Oracle. This is a surprise purchase of a successful CMS vendor and appears to be a trend that is developing of late whereby larger companies such as Adobe (see <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/adobe-acquire-day-software/">Adobe/Day Acquisition</a>) and Oracle are building up their content management offerings.
<blockquote>
“Together, Oracle and FatWire plan to deliver the most complete web experience management solution that will enable companies to fully optimize the customer experience with innovative social tools that enable user generated content in a managed environment,” said Hasan Rizvi, Senior Vice President at Oracle. “The addition of FatWire products will give Oracle the ability to provide a complete suite of software that empowers web marketers to engage visitors, converting more prospects to customers, and enhancing customer loyalty.”
</blockquote>
According to the reports, the transaction is expected to close mid-year 2011. Until the deal closes, each company will continue to operate independently. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
<blockquote>
“FatWire solutions help organizations drive customer engagement and loyalty by offering a targeted and interactive online experience across web and mobile channels,” said Yogesh Gupta, President and CEO, FatWire Software. “This acquisition is expected to provide FatWire customers with dramatically expanded products and services to help them achieve their online customer experience goals.”
</blockquote>
FatWire complements Oracle's leading technology products including Oracle Fusion Middleware, Business Intelligence, Enterprise Content Management, and Portal technology. It also complements Oracle's leading application products including Oracle Customer Relationship Management and ATG Web Commerce.
Full info can be found here: <a href="http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/acquisitions/fatwire/index.html">http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/acquisitions/fatwire/index.html</a>
With the recent batch of acquisitions over the last couple of years, it lends one to wonder whether there will be further trimming in the CMS space and whether we can expect to see more vendors merging or gobbling each other up.

Oracle Buys FatWire Software - More CMS Acquisitions on the way?

The development of the new Kajona version 3.4.0 took nearly ten months, but it was worth waiting. The Kajona team used the time to refactor many aspects of the system, providing both, visible changes at the user-interface and invisible changes under the hood. Like the release name “berlin” hints at, most of the feedback from this year's LinuxTag in Berlin was already implemented in Kajona 3.4.0.
Portaleditor Editors responsible for maintaining the websites' content will love the improved in-site-editing. For the first time it's now possible to even create new pages right in the portal. This means, the editor may maintain the website using the portaleditor only – the backend is only required for more sophisticated tasks. By the improved in-site-editing support of galleries and downloads, the workflow is optimized even more.
Administration By switching from the portal to the comprehensive backend, the editor or administrator is supported by consequently used dialogs. Those dialogs and the usage of AJAX speed up the interface-experience noticeable and at many aspects. Working with forms is now easier than ever since mandatory fields are marked automatically by the system. The developer of a module only has to declare the mandatory fields, everything else, rendering and validation, is made by the framework transparently in the background.
In addition, the backend now supports optional “aspects” to categorize the backend into logical groups reflecting the current use case. When using those aspects, unused modules are removed from the interface reducing the complexity even more.
Navigations Besides the classical, manual maintenance of navigation-trees and the flexibility achieved by this approach, it is now possible to generate navigations completely automatically.
Therefore the page-structure is analysed and transformed into a navigation-structure on-the-fly. Since new pages appear in the navigation immediately, the effort required to maintain the navigation is reduced to somewhere near zero.
New Modules By popular request, Kajona 3.4.0 ships with an initial implementation of a new event-manager. The module will be extended and improved in upcoming version reflecting the feedback of the users.
Furthermore, the support of tags was introduced, providing a way to enrich records with meta-information. Those tags may be rendered in the portal as a tag-cloud or as a keyword-list.
The PDF functionality was declared as stable and added to the default set of modules.
Framework The framework was optimized at many places, providing an even faster way of extending the framework by adding new functionality.
One of the main new features is the introduced support of prepared statements. In this context the Kajona-internal database-drivers mysql and sqlite had to be removed from the packages – by the usage of the even more modern drivers mysqli and sqlite3 there shouldn't emerge any problems. Up from version 3.4.0 the list of officially supported databases comprises MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite and PostgreSQL.
While queries using the old schema are still fully functional, developers should migrate to prepared statements as soon as possible.
By adding new lifecyle-methods such as class_element_admin::doBeforeSaveToDb() and class_model::doAdditionalActionsOnStatusChange($strSystemid), developers are now able to react on even more events triggered by the system. The controller now resolves the actions to call transparently by reflection, a module-internal resolving and dispatching by the developer is no longer necessary.
Changes made to objects may be logged by the new changelog-mechanism. If activated, the system tracks all changes made to objects by using a separate log-table and thus provides a way to trace changes on a very granular base.
