Two new <a href="http://www.drupal.org">Drupal</a> releases have shown up on the Drupal website. Both the 5.x series and 6.x series have been updated.
These two new releases bring together a number of security fixes and address some critical security vulnerabilities that have arisen since the previous releases.

The security issues that were address can be found in the <a href="http://drupal.org/node/579482">security advisory</a>.
As expected, it's a good idea to upgrade right away to avoid exposing your site to any potential threats.

<a href="http://www.acquia.com">Acquia</a> has announced that they will provide the free Acquia Hosting.
According to the post by Dries on his website:
Today, we are happy to announce that we'll start to provide free Acquia Hosting accounts to not for profit sites that promote Drupal adoption and usage. For example, DrupalCamp websites and local Drupal user group websites would qualify for free Acquia Hosting. The program starts in October or November, but <a href="http://acquia.com/products-services/acquia-hosting/free-acquia-hosting">you can sign-up now</a> if you have a site that qualifies.
In exchange for free hosting, we require that the footer section of each page displays “Hosted by Acquia”, and that an Acquia logo is displayed somewhere on your homepage.

The <a href="http://www.sitefinity.com">Sitefinity</a> team is happy to announce the release of Sitefinity ASP.NET CMS v3.7 SP1.
The release is available for immediate download in client accounts. In this Service Pack they have included a number of optimizations and fixes for the recently introduced Wiki module.

MovableType 5 is available for beta testing from the <a href="http://www.movabletype.org">movabletype.org</a> website. We strongly encourage you to help them test it out if you have the time.
Some of the advancements with this new release are single click theme installation, the adoption of jquery to replace the older js libraries, new permissions and default roles, webpage and blog structure overhaul, more advanced custom fields and many more enhancements.

In reponse to a security threat that allowed potential attackers to bypass a security check to verify a user requested a password reset, the WordPress team has announced a new release.
<a href="http://wordpress.org/development/2009/08/2-8-4-security-release/">WordPress</a> 2.8.4 is a security update to address this threat and keep the popular open source blog software free of security risks.

“Yesterday a vulnerability was discovered: a specially crafted URL could be requested that would allow an attacker to bypass a security check to verify a user requested a password reset. As a result, the first account without a key in the database (usually the admin account) would have its password reset and a new password would be emailed to the account owner. This doesn’t allow remote access, but it is very annoying.
We fixed this problem last night and have been testing the fixes and looking for other problems since then. <a href="http://wordpress.org/download/">Version 2.8.4 which fixes all known problems is now available for download</a> and is highly recommended for all users of WordPress.”

WordPress 2.8.4 Security Release available

There seems to be quite a bit of confusion with regards to the value of the open source CMS market. For this reason, we're asking why you use open source cms products?
What makes you choose them over commercial options?
I've noticed more and more that there are quite a few comments being said that are not factual with regards to the value of open source products. Some commercial vendors, for instance, tend to weigh in with the argument that open source products are not well supported and are less secure than theirs.

Open Text announces its plans for Vignette since the Acquisition

AxCMS.net is known as a powerful enterprise web content management system – with separated systems for managing the content and a second (or more in load balanced scenarios) for the productive environment.

The Elgg team have released a new update to the popular open source social networking cms.
Version 1.6.1 brings about the following changes:

<a href="http://e107.org">e107</a> has finally released a new version with 0.7.16. This popular open source cms appeared to have gone on hiatus for quite some time but it appears they were in fact working on a new release.
