A new version of PHPFox has been released. Version 3.30 became publicly available on the 1st of this month and includes some new features for this popular software for <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/list-of-social-network-software/">social networking</a>. For those who are unfamiliar with PHPFox, check out our <a href="/phpfox-review/">PHPFox Review</a> to learn more.
On with the changes!
<h2>Timeline</h2>
The timeline feature includes an update on the users profile. Admins can control if the Timeline should be forced on all users or whether they will have the option to enable Timeline on their own profiles. If  optional, it can be enabled by visiting: Profile &gt;&gt; Edit Profile. This is somewhat similar to the way Facebook Timelines work and is a pretty cool addition.

<h2>Theater Mode for Photos</h2>
By blending Facebook and Google's photo viewing capabilities, the PHPFox developers have come up with a new feature called Theater Mode  that looks great and, in my opinion, is the best of both worlds for your users when they are viewing photos on your social networking website.

<h2> Membership Comparisons</h2>
Perhaps your social networking website is set up with membership levels. You can now add a comparison chart to showcase the differences between the two quickly and easily.

<h2>New Sharing Features</h2>
Perhaps you've uploaded a great photo and (since the point of social networking is sharing) you want to share it on a friend's wall. Now you can, as this capability has now been included in version 3.30.

This is just a sampling of the changes in this release. The development team at PHPFox have really been working hard on making their software more and more powerful and it shows with this release. There aren't many products on the market that stay on top of the trends as well as these guys do so if you are looking for a solid piece of software to run your social networking based site, you can't go wrong with PHPFox.

PHPFox Social Networking Software Updated to Version 3.30

The latest version of <a href="https://www.phpfox.com/" target="_blank"> PHPFox </a>  has been announced, making the social networking platform sleeker and sexier than ever before.
<a href="/phpfox-rebrands-to-moxi9-reveals-pricing-changes/" target="_blank">Freshly re-branded as Moxi9</a>, PHPFox has enjoyed its status as a popular community-building CMS, giving users the ability to offer features found on Facebook, MySpace, and other networks.
With PHPFox V4 – which is due for release during Fall 2014 – brings about a new look and feel. It also pairs with Moxi9 Unity, allowing developers to create powerful apps. Let's take a closer look.
<h2>PHPFox Streamlined</h2>
Reading through the improvements that PHPFox V4 is soon to bring, one word sprung to my mind. Streamlining.
The team behind Moxi9 are pushing PHPFox into modernity with a host of needed features, bells and whistles. And it looks pretty damn good.

In fact, users can look forward to a revamped user interface, including cleaner activity feeds, side panels, user profiles an pages in general.
Additionally, Moxi9 have stated that they will include a responsive theme with V4 by default, which all future themes can extend with ease.

Perhaps one of the most notable changes though – particularly for developers – is the Moxi9 Unity pairing.
Moxi9 Unity opens the doors to developers to create powerful apps without needing access any server. Plus, they won't be bound to a specific programing language. That means secure, one-click installs for clients and easy updates for developers.

Moxi9 Introduces Enterprise Services

<a href="https://www.phpfox.com/" target="_blank"> PHPFox</a>, the widely popular social networking CMS, has rebranded. From here on out, <a href="http://moxi9.com/announcement/welcome-to-moxi9" target="_blank"> PHPFox goes by the name of Moxi9</a>.
Moxi9 has been around for a number of years as PHPFox, giving users the ability to create unique online communities which can include many of the features found on sites like Facebook and MySpace.
Although I personally like the sound of Moxi9, users and potential users of the platform will be interested to hear that this rebranding brings about more than just a name change.
<h2>PHPFox 4, Pricing &amp; Support</h2>
The PHPFox/Moxi9 team have announced that they are currently working on v4, which is based on a stripped down version of the v3 engine. They say that:
<blockquote>“We have removed many of the default modules that are included with v3 and our new pricing takes this into account, which we will get into below. Our goal with v4 is to develop a strong and stable core, with a brand new way to deliver Apps, Themes and Language Packs to you by using Unity [a feature which will allow you to install Apps, Themes and/or Language Packages with no need to upload files or have developers access your server].”</blockquote>

Furthermore, the Moxi9 team have unveiled some pricing and support changes, which alters the way users pay for support.
Firstly, the PHPFox product itself has been reduced in price from $299,to $99. A sizeable reduction. However, support options must now be purchased separately via the following two plans:
<ol>
<li> Starter Support Plan – This comes with a 48 hour response time during a 5 day working week, with 30 responses per month at $19 per month.</li>
<li> Pro Support Plan – This comes with a 12 hour response time during a 5 day working week, with 60 responses per month at $49 per month.</li>
</ol>
Also, a Q/A section is currently in private beta, a place where members of Unity or those with active support plans can get assistance from other members and company agents.

PHPFox Rebrands to Moxi9, Reveals Pricing Changes

<a target="_blank" href="https://www.phpfox.com/">phpFox</a> is one of many social networking packages that are commercially available for those looking to deploy a Facebook or MySpace style social network. Given the response I've had to our <a href="/socialengine-review/">Social Engine Review</a> and the apparent lack of support offered by that company, I thought we'd explore some other, potentially better supported social networking options such as this one in order to provide alternatives. As a result, I bring you my phpFox Review. This social networking software is very popular with a large community and today, we'll find out if it's a suitable option for those in the market.For those unfamiliar with phpFox, it has been on the market for quite some time and offers a well priced system packed with quite a few features such as:<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/features-__-phpfox-social-networking-script-google-chrome_2012-02-13_14-36-44-450x403.png" alt="phpfox review" /><h2>First Impressions</h2>The interface is simple but functional and as you can see from the screenshot below, once populated with content and users, the system has a nice clean flow to it. It resembles what we've all come to expect from most systems of this caliber.<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/feature_banner-450x218.png" alt="phpFox Review" />I chose to use the phpFox demo as the basis of this phpFox review since it's already populated with some content and member profiles.Signing up for a new account on the demo site was fast and painless and I received a confirmation email immediately. Moving around the interface and adding profile data was both snappy and easy to do. In a matter of a few moments, I had customized my profile, added a profile pic and cropped it.<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/evoqcontent_dxdunw.png" alt="phpFox Review" />Adding blog posts, videos and comments works without issue and I did not detect any issues doing so. The system seemed to respond quickly to every task I've tried so far without issue.Every installation of phpFox comes with a mobile friendly version as well which is great for those looking to be accessible on multiple platforms. Here's a screenshot of the mobile version of the site:<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/social-networking-community-powered-by-phpfox-google-chrome_2012-02-13_14-39-40-450x246.png" alt="phpFox Review" />Everything on the mobile system from my tests was without incident and worked as expected as well.I'm not going to focus too much on the front end of this system as it's fairly easy for you to test it out for yourself using their demo system. What I will say is that it works and appears to not have any glaring bugs that I can see!<h2>Administering the System</h2>Once a user has been set up as an administrator of the system, an AdminCP link becomes available on the top right of the main site once you've logged in. Clicking on this brings you to the admin dashboard where you can modify the settings for the system.<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2021/07/admin-cp-__-dashboard-__-social-networking-community-google-chrome_2012-02-13_14-46-33-620x396_ars2vf.png" alt="phpfox review" />As you can see, the user of drop-down menus is applied to the admin panel giving you quick and easy access to the settings within each setting of the CMS.Should you wish to modify any of the many menus on the website itself, you can do so quickly and easily using the Manage Menus option under CMS. From there, you can change the order, edit a menu item or delete it completely. If you wish to simply deactivate it, you can do so with a simple check box.Adding menus or individual items is extremely simple and is done through the following interface:<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/phpfox-adding-menu-items-450x356.png" alt="phpFox Review" />The system layout is handled using blocks, which can be managed in two different ways depending on your tastes. The traditional interface or a slick visual drag and drop mode.Traditional:<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/baremetrics1_d0urry.png" alt="phpFox Review" />Drag and Drop:<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/greenshot_2012-02-13_15-21-17-450x356.png" alt="phpFox Review" />Regardless of which way you choose, adding content to the various areas of the site is quick and easy.Taking a look at user management, I was surprised to see how granular one can be with security permissions.<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2021/07/admin-cp-__-social-networking-community-google-chrome_2012-02-13_15-28-09-620x376_y15ash.png" alt="phpfox review" />I've used a number of scripts similar to phpFox and a large number of them are lacking in the area of user security so it's nice to see this one is the exception to the rule.On the expandability front, there are tons of themes and plugins for phpFox, all of which can be managed from within the Extensions menu. You can even create language packs, manage phrases and much more. On the phpFox website, they also list a number of user created modules and themes which are available both for purchase and free. At a glance, it appears there are over 400 apps/modules and over 100 themes available through their website.On the social front, phpFox provides the ability for your users to use their Facebook, Twitter, Google, OpenID and more to login to your site and if speed is a concern, it can also be configured to work with Amazon's CDN network.<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2021/07/admin-cp-__-manage-settings-__-social-networking-community-google-chrome_2012-02-14_10-32-14-620x409_c6ogzs.png" alt="phpfox review" />Looking to integrate a payment system into your social networking software platform? phpFox has you covered there as well with integrations from PayPal and 2checkout.The list of configurable options goes on and on and there is no way I can hope to cover them all in this review other than to say, there's a lot you can configure if you choose to do so. One key thing I do want to highlight is the maintenance and backup options within the admin panel. This is a great addition and gives administrators the ability to optimize and repair tables within their database as well as the option to perform backups quickly and easily.<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2021/07/admin-cp-__-sql-maintenance-__-social-networking-community-google-chrome_2012-02-14_10-42-53-620x353_m4j0kl.png" alt="phpfox review" /><h2>Conclusion</h2>The purpose of this phpFox review was to determine if the software was suitable for the average consumer and I can confidently say that yes, it is. If you are looking for social networking software that offers a myriad of options with a great community and ease of use, look no further. Using the system was a pleasure and throughout my testing I did not encounter any bugs or hiccups within the software. When it comes to social networking software, PHPFox has always been one of the market leaders, and with the updates brought about by their newly released platform version 3.7.0, they will be hoping to make further steps in the right direction.
The latest PHPFox update introduces a four core features, all of which administrators will directly benefit from and make use of.
With the popular community building CMS is in contention for this year's <a href="/announcing-the-people-s-choice-for-best-social-networking-solution-nominees/" target="_blank">People's Choice for Best Social Networking Solution</a>, it's fair to say that these updates will be transforming the way quite a few social networking websites manage and present their content. So, let's have a look at what's new.
<h2>Hashtags &amp; Improved Registration Forms</h2>
The first change PHPFox users will notice, is the implementation of hashtags. Users can add hashtags to images, threads, blogs and so forth, in order to help categorize content, making it easier for others to find whilst searching or browsing.

Also, PHPFox 3.7.0 also brings about a slightly updated user registration form, which now gives the option for users to enter their City along with the rest of their profile credentials.

<h2>MultiAds &amp; HTML5 Photo Uploading</h2>
Additionally, a brand new MultiAd feature means that you can display ads throughout your online community in a highly professional fashion. Using the MultiAd feature allows you to display multiple ads in a vertical block beside your content. PHPFox have also stated that custom ads from the AdminCP can be be created in line with the new MultiAd function.

Last, but not least, is the improved photo uploading function, which makes use of a HTML5 mass uploader. According to PHPFox, they aim to use the HTML5 mass uploader to replace the flash-based Massuploader currently provided for their user base.

They offer response technical support, the product is well established and has a good base with which to work from, there are a wide variety of customization options and for every person I've referred to phpFox, I've had not one come back to me complaining that it didn't suit their needs.As my choice for this year, when asked to offer suggestions for the best social networking software, I will point to phpFox.
