<p><a href="https://www.weebly.com/" target="_blank">Weebly</a>, the website builder, has released some features that befit a marketing automation system.</p>
<p>The website builder recently ran into trouble with some hackers who reportedly <a href="/weebly-hacked-43m-customer-records-stolen/" target="_blank">stole 43 million Weebly customer credentials</a>. Weebly acknowledged the breach and urged their customers to change their passwords.</p>
<p>But that fiasco hasn't stopped them from working on new features in the meantime. Here's what's new with Weebly.</p>

<h2>Automated Emails</h2>

<p>First up, Weebly users can now schedule and automate emails that get sent when a user interacts with your website in a specific way.</p>
<p>Here are some examples of how that can help:</p>
<ul>
<li>Send a thank you when someone buys something from your store.</li>
<li>Send a happy birthday message (and discount) on a user's birthday.</li>
<li>Say hello to a customer who hasn't visited your store in a while.</li>
<li>Welcome new customers who sign up for your email list.</li>
<li>Send a survey to ask shoppers about their online experience.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Pop-up Lead Capture Forms</h2>

<p>Next, Weebly have rolled out lead capture forms to help you collect emails and contact information from your website's visitors. Once again, we're very much in marketing automation territory here.</p>
<p>According to Weebly, this new feature syncs with the platform's ‘Promote' list to capture emails and make it easy for visitors to join your mailng list. You can control the design, layout and timing of the promotion that pops up over pages or from the bottom corner when new users visit your website.</p>
<h2>Abandoned Shopping Cart Tracking</h2>

<p>Weebly also unveiled a feature that lets you track the number of abandoned shopping carts on your website. That means every time a visitor leaves your site during the checkout process – but before handing over their cash – you'll know about it.</p>
<p>Also, this new Abandoned Cart feature saves the cart for every registered user and creates a link for you to email them a reminder to complete their purchase. Plus, the email can be automatically sent (thanks, automated emails!).</p>
<p>In fact, after a customer has made it to your checkout flow and entered an email, you can configure the amount of time that elapses before sending the customer an abandoned cart email.</p>
<h2>Weebly: Blurred Lines?</h2>
<p>Just a year ago, I would have been quite shocked to find a website builder like Weebly – which prides itself on simplicity – releasing features like the ones detailed above. .</p>
<p>Lead capture forms and abandoned shopping cart tracking? Those are relatively advanced webmaster tools that are typically reserved for enterprise-grade platforms. Or at least, they used to be.</p>
<p>Perhaps now we're looking at the new face of website building, where marketing automation comes as part of even the most basic package.</p>
<p>For me, it's exciting, but I'm not sure how well this all suits the newbie who just wants to make a simple website for a new business. It feels like the lines are getting blurred over at Weebly.</p>

Weebly Unveils Marketing Automation Features

<p><a href="https://www.weebly.com/">Weebly</a> is a user-friendly website builder that first launched in 2006 and hit 1 million users by 2008. The platform now hosts over 30 million sites and it's touted as one of the most popular drag-and-drop website builders around.</p>
<p>Weebly has undergone many revamps since its initial launch, and its latest facelift for 2016 offers more features than ever before. The popular site allows individuals to create a website in less than an hour, regardless of their level of expertise, and it’s become popular with both hobbyists and professionals alike.</p>
<p>Seems too good to be true, right? I decided to check it out and see for myself.</p>
<h2>Getting Set-Up</h2>
<p>Getting started with Weebly is simple. Users can log in with Google Plus, Facebook, or by inserting their email address – all you need for this is your name, email, and password.</p>
<p>One thing I’d add here is a ‘sign up with Twitter’ function, as it just seemed a bit odd to have left it out. Maybe that’s just me, though, being the Twitter addict that I am.</p>

<p>There’s a little box you can tick if you want to sign up for updates and offers which is pretty standard, but what I really liked about this was that it was unticked by default. Many sites leave it ticked automatically, so you have to go and untick it if you’re not actually interested in receiving these emails. It’s one of my pet peeves because you just <em>know</em> they’re trying to catch you out. Sneaky rascals.</p>
<p>Once you’ve registered, the below screen will pop up and you’ll be asked what the focus of your site is, i.e. standard website, blog, or store.</p>

<p>After this, you can categorize it as business, personal, group/organizational, wedding, education, or portfolio. If you don’t want to or none of these apply, you simply can tell them to stop asking you (they’re cool like that – there’s even a tick box for it).</p>

<p>Then comes the fun part, choosing a design theme.</p>
<h2>Themes and Design</h2>
<p>Weebly offers over 100 attractive, professional, and well laid-out themes, so it’ll be difficult <em>not </em>to find one you like. Most come with customizable color sets too, so you’re spoilt for choice.</p>
<p>Every single theme is mobile responsive and just one click at the top of the screen allows you see your site as a mobile viewer would. You can’t add elements to the mobile version but you can get a like for like preview that should allow you to see them.</p>

<h2>Choosing Your URL</h2>
<p>If you have a free account, you’ll receive a ‘weebly.com’ domain name. If you want your own custom domain then you’ll have to sign up to a $39.95 registration fee. Is it a little high? Maybe, but I think it’s worth it if you want to create a professional site. Weebly make this whole process really easy, but you can also run it through an independent domain registrar such as <a href="http://www.godaddy.com">Godaddy</a>.</p>
<h2>Website Editing</h2>
<p>The website building interface is very easy to use, with a double row of elements/apps on the left hand site and a menu bar at the top. In a lot of sites like Weebly, adding pages can be a bit of a treasure hunt. But Weebly has its Pages section clearly labelled and easily editable, so you can just add pages and rearrange them with your mouse as you see fit.</p>
<p>Designing each page is simple. Want to edit that title? Just click on it and type. Want to make it bold? There’s a familiar toolset to let you edit it on the screen. There are no gimmicks and no multiple click paths – you just edit what you see and it’s done, instantly.</p>
<p>Everything is very clearly labeled and users can design a site by dragging elements onto the various pages. There are a variety of elements available such as a contact form, map, social buttons, slideshows, and more.</p>

<p>The contact form offers tons of options, such a custom confirmation URL, file uploads, drop-down selects, a phone number field. It definitely gets a thumbs up from me.</p>

<p>However, the real player here is the App Center which launched in August 2015. The new and improved App Center is a real bonus to the site, and you can now add any number of site boosting elements to your Weebly site with a minimum of fuss.</p>
<p>Everything is drag and drop. They have a number of apps for free and, as you’d expect, a number of premium ones too. All of these add value and are handily categorized into their retrospective uses – Marketing, Site Tools, eCommerce, Communication.</p>

<p>Everything is cleanly laid out and all of the apps are compatible with Weebly, so you won’t encounter any of the plug-in mishaps that can happen with sites like <a href="https://wordpress.com/">WordPress</a>.</p>

<h2>Pricing</h2>
<p>There are 4 pricing options available on Weebly, ranging from Free, Starter ($4 p/m), Pro ($8 p/m), and Business ($25 p/m). The free account is decent enough and provides unlimited pages, but you’ll also have to deal with Weebly branding and promotions. With the Starter Plan, you can add your own URL and the Weebly branding is removed. You also get to avail of premium support.</p>
<p>If you opt for the Pro account you’ll get additional multimedia features and added password protection. And the next step after this is a Business account, which offers SSL support and fully integrated ecommerce. <h2>Should You Use Weebly For Your Website?</h2>
<p>For me, it’s a no-brainer. Weebly is a superb site with an excellent and intuitive design system that makes everything as easy as possible, for even the most novice user.</p>
<p>Weebly’s biggest strength is the intuitiveness of its layout. Everything just ‘makes sense’, and everything that is clickable – is editable.</p>
<p>It really seems to have something for everyone. Want a simple drag and drop? It’s there. Want more sophistication? You can add media, embed code, add Google Analytics – all from the one page and taskbar.</p>
<p>The learning curve is very graduated and it can be scaled to adapt to the skill levels of all users. Personally, I’d rate this as the best site builder out there right now.</p>
<p>The prices are pretty reasonable too, with Weebly’s premium package coming in at a quite reasonable $25 a month. The basic package is maybe a little thin on features like HD video and audio, but they are the little extras worth paying extra for.</p>
<p>The guys behind Weebly seem to really care about their users and continuously strive to meet the needs to those users by improving their service offering. <p>Regarding the release of Weebly for Enterprise, I managed to get some questions answered by Nick Dellis, Weebly's Vice President of Business Development. Here is our full discussion:</p>
<h3><strong>1) What has spurred Weebly into moving into the Enterprise space?</strong></h3>
<p>The idea for Weebly for Enterprise grew out of organic demand. Organizations of all types regularly approach Weebly to leverage our intuitive consumer experience for a wide-variety of applications.</p>
<p>The main requirement they had was for enterprise features like the ability to manage staff and clients, permission control, APIs, automation and things like that. We already have thousands of companies of all sizes using Weebly in this way in a pilot program we kicked off to understand these use cases.</p>
<p>When we dug into the reasons people reached out, the main driver was that the expectations of the average employee are changing, and they want to use enterprise software that’s intuitive, effective and easy to use, just as they can at home. It shouldn’t be so difficult and expensive to build and manage dozens or hundreds of websites, but surprisingly most enterprises are using a costly internal CMS or open source solutions that don’t scale effectively and are extremely resource intensive. We heard horror stories from IT managers who had dozens of requests for simple marketing and content changes to sites that couldn't be done for months. Marketing departments and staff were frustrated because they couldn't just do it themselves.</p>
<p>With Weebly, we can provide the same intuitive site creation and editing experience every customer gets, while also integrating the tools, controls and scalability required in the Enterprise space.</p>
<p>Weebly for Enterprise is the end result, and is a simple, turn-key solution for any organization to build and scale their business on top of the Weebly platform. <p>The “normal” consumer version of Weebly is a product more intended for a person or a small company who wants to build their own website, blog or eCommerce store — they can choose a theme, drag and drop elements like images or video and enter text quickly and effectively, publishing a site in minutes. It’s perfect for a person or organization who wants to build just one or a handful of sites.</p>
<p>However, for an organization that needs dozens of websites (or hundreds), things get complicated quickly. You need to manage staff members, admins, control branding elements and assets, integrate into your internal workflows and systems, add your own themes, develop your own apps/elements and so on. Weebly for Enterprise is the core Weebly consumer experience with a “layer” on top designed for enterprises to easily do those things.</p>
<h3><strong>3) What does the future hold for Weebly Enterprise, both short term and long term?</strong></h3>
<p>We see expansion into new verticals, where we use Weebly for Enterprise as a base and add components that are specific to certain industries on top.</p>
<p>For example, we are pretty sure that hosting companies who want to sell 100,000 websites to their clients are going to have different needs than a large hospital who is using Weebly for Enterprise to create and lock down 1,500+ physician sites. When you think about digital agencies, universities, franchises and dozens of other use cases, we have a lot of work ahead of us.</p>

<h2>Order Notes, Quickbooks &amp; CSV Exporting</h2>
<p>Giving customers a voice when they make an order is important, and Weebly have recognized this. Now, all of your customers have the option to leave an optional “Note to Seller” during checkout, letting you know if they want you to handle any other specifics.</p>

<p>The simple drag-and-drop system is brilliantly implemented by Weebly, giving its users direct, detailed control over the content of their websites. The process requires no knowledge of coding or web design, as elements can be quickly dragged, dropped, modified and deleted via easy to grasp interfaces.</p>

<p>The All New Weebly also brings about a new mobile editor, allowing you to preview and modify the mobile version of your website. Changes made to your website in either browser or mobile view will be automatically synced between both, maintaining a steady appearance to all of your visitors.</p>
<p>Additionally, Weebly now has a built-in Site Planner, which takes users through a step-by-step guide of their powerful new admin panel, setting goals, learning new skills and understanding the basic principals of website growth and success along the way.</p>
<p>Setting user interface updates aside, the All New Weebly update also brings a re-worked pricing plan. A totally free Weebly is still available to users, whilst both a Starter and Pro plan are offered at $4 and $8 per month respectively.</p>

<p>Weebly's elegantly designed templates are inspiring to look over, and selecting your favourite one definitely gets the ball rolling in the right direction.</p>
<h3><strong> The Site Planner </strong></h3>
<p>After selecting your websites theme, it's time to take a glance at Weebly's Site Planner. The planner is divided into three main sections, which are Plan, Build and Grow.</p>
<p>Each section includes an informative, instructional video, which walks you through various useful processes. For example, the first step in the Build section contains a video demonstrating the page creation and organization process.</p>

<p>Moving away from the Site Planner, Weebly allows you to dive right into the customization process, by offering up your unpopulated homepage for you to fiddle with.</p>
<p>Your website will be displayed in preview mode on the right, whilst the recently revamped admin panel takes up the left-hand side of the screen.</p>

<p>Areas such as the website logo can be edited by hovering and clicking on the available options. For example, I chose to import an image to act as the logo, whereas other options allowed by to type in standard text, or remove the logo entirely.</p>

<p>The same hovering rule applies to all other elements on the website, so long as you are in preview mode. Images, blocks of text and so forth can be hovered over, resulting in some options being displayed. Modifying or deleting the element is then a piece of cake.</p>
<p>Generally, the drag-and-drop system adopted by Weebly works a charm. Anybody can understand the process, and adding your own layout and design touches is incredibly easy.</p>
<h3><strong> Themes &amp; Design<br />
</strong></h3>
<p>Across the top of the preview page, tabs are displayed. One of which is entitled “Design”. Within this page, you can select a different theme, or modify your existing one.</p>

<p>Options such as the base colour of your theme can be changed, along with font styles, social icons and phone number location. Despite a healthy range of options, it would have been nice to see a full colour palette being made available, instead of just the pre-set colours currently on offer.</p>
<p>As well as being able to select a different theme altogether, Weebly also gives you full access to the HTML and CSS coding behind all of its themes, allowing you to tinker with the design and functionality.</p>
<h3><strong> Adding Pages </strong></h3>
<p>A web page doesn't make a website, so it's good news that Weebly allows you to quickly and easily add as many different pages as you want.</p>
<p>Heading over to the “Pages” tab at the top of the preview page, you will be presented with the option to create a new page, and alter the order and settings of your existing pages.</p>

<p>Adding a page is simple. You enter the title, followed by the layout you wish to utilise, which largely depends on the theme you are currently using.</p>

</strong></h2>
<p>One of Weebly's key strengths is its sheer flexibility. It does a superb job with the basics, allowing elements such as maps, contact forms and slide shows to be seamlessly incorporated. But on top of that, Weebly offers a wide range of other functionalities.</p>
<p>Uploading images for example can be done in a variety of ways. They can be uploaded from your computer, via a URL or even via Weebly's built in image search function.</p>

<p>Selling products on Weebly can be done with relative ease. Dragging and dropping the “product” element from the admin panel will allow you to modify your product image, set a price and add a description.</p>

However, it must be said that Weebly does have some limitations in the ecommerce department. Payments can only be taken via PayPal and Google checkout, and it doesn't offer an integrated order management system.</p>

<p>Weebly also offers a fairly comprehensive discussion forum solution, which can be dragged and dropped on to any page. You may then go ahead and customize your forum, adding log in buttons for Facebook, Twitter, Google and other services.</p>

Social icons such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn buttons are often built in to certain Weebly themes, with the option to remove them, or add your personal social profile links to them.</p>

<p>As with any CMS, being able to find useful help pages and contact details is vital, and Weebly helps you do just that. Across the top of the preview page lies a question mark icon, which leads you to the Weebly Support Centre.</p>

<p>Being able to market and monetize your website is hugely important. Simply publishing content on your homepage willl not help bring in visitors. Instead, Weebly offers a helping hand by being SEO friendly, allowing title, meta and description tags to be customized at page level, along with image ALT tags.</p>
<h3>Blogging</h3>
<p>Maintaining a blog relevant to your website is an extremely efficient way of driving traffic to your website. Good quality blog posts will eventually rank in the search engines, and will also do well on social media networks.</p>

<p>However, users who are using the free version of Weebly will be giving up 50% of their Google Adsense revenue until they upgrade their accounts. On top of a handful of other restrictions impose on free Weebly users, some users may find such a large percentage unfair.</p>

<p>Along with the traditional option of Google Analytics, Weebly also offers its users a free, in-house Site Stats page, which keeps track of visitors, search terms, referring websites and so forth.</p>
<p>Monitoring your audience is vital when it comes to understanding the strengths and weaknesses of your website, and Weebly's inclusion of a built-in Site Stats page is therefore extremely useful.</p>
<h2>Price Plans</h2>
<p>Along with the release of the All New Weebly, a new price structure was unveiled. Before the update, Weebly offered their Starter plan at $3.29 per month, along with their Pro plan from $6.63 per month. In comparison to their competitors, Wix and Webs, these fees were very reasonable.</p>

The uncluttered user interface, paired with the extremely easy to use drag-and-drop system, makes Weebly a brilliant choice for a novice web site builders, and for those who know exactly what they're doing.</p>
<p>Weebly's speedy service and cloud-based servers allow you to get your website up and running in minutes, without compromising on the sleek, professional presentation which is manages to capture in all of its themes and widgets.</p>

<li>Ecommerce and Forum options are great examples of the impressive flexibility of Weebly.</li>
<li>Built-in Site Stats and a Blogging feature are a tremendous help in terms of marketing and visitor engagement.</li>
<li>Prices are agreeable in comparison to Weebly's competitors.</li>

<li>Along with a long list of restrictions, including Weebly's logo on their website's footer, users of the free Weebly service are only entitled to half of their Google Adsense earnings, which will understandably disgruntle some users.</li>

<p>As mentioned in <a href="/weebly-review/"> our last Weebly review </a> , the quirky web site builder has always been packed full of features, offering an easy, unintimidating solution to those with no coding experience, and perhaps even for those with no web experience at all.</p>
<p>Additionally, to put it simply – which is the Weebly way, the recently introduced updates have injected a new spirit into the service, making it leaner and more flexible than ever before. The core features have remained, but they have now been expertly polished and presented within the elegance of the new admin panel.</p>
<p>Weebly's drag-and-drop site creation system has served it well in the past, and will surely continue to do so, especially now that it works in tandem with a brand new mobile editor, a user-friendly site planner, and a modern user interface. After the All New Weebly release, it would seem that both Wix, Webs and the rest of Weebly's competition have some catching up to do.</p>

It's a platform that has continued to gain recognition on the web for its ease of use. For that reason, I decided to take a look at this website builder and write up a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.weebly.com/">Weebly</a> review to investigate whether it's a good option for those looking for something similar. Without further adieu, here is my Weebly Review.</p><p>First let me say this. A lot of people use Weebly. It's an incredibly popular website builder boasting over 12 million people and businesses. A pretty impressive feat which, one would think, means it's got to be an impressive tool right? Let's dig into our Weebly Review.</p><h2>Weebly Review – Let's Get Started</h2><p>When I first chose to review <a target="_blank" href="https://www.weebly.com/">Weebly</a>, I was greeted with a quick and simple sign in box to get you started. Immediately after you fill out these details, you are asked for a site name and category:</p><h3>Weebly Review – Enter a Title for your Site:</h3><p><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/recyclebin_cwlhwx.png" alt="Weebly Review" /></p><p>Once you've submitted this form, you get the option to make your own <strong>weebly.com</strong> address, purchase a domain or transfer an existing one to use with the site. Most people will likely start off with a subdomain and purchase a domain from Weebly (or somewhere else) later, but the choice is yours.</p><p>Once you've got a domain, you are immediately put into the Weebly website builder so you can get building.</p><h3>Weebly Review – The Weebly Editor:</h3><p><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/weebly3-620x413.jpg" alt="weebly review" /></p><p>What I love about the Weebly website builder is its speed. It's incredibly fast and the modules update immediately unlike some other builders I've used. To add a new module, you simply drag and drop it into your site. Once it's dropped, if configuration is required, you'll get a popup from Weebly that allows you to complete the setup. You'll notice that you can add a ton of different elements to your Weebly page from basic eCommerce (redirects to PayPal or Google Checkout) to photo galleries, slideshows, flash components, videos, maps and text / images. There's definitely more than enough for the average website. In fact, I'm not sure there's anything missing at all, now that I think about it.</p><p>To add a component, like I mentioned, just drag and drop it onto your new Weebly website. You'll notice that below I dragged the Multiple Columns element into the site and was quickly given the option to choose the number of columns and resize them if necessary.</p><h3>Weebly Review – The Multiple Columns Element:</h3><p><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/office-620822_960_720_ptvexi.jpg" alt="weebly review" /></p><p>Once done, I can then drag any of the above elements are shown below into any of the columns as well. It's generally just fun to use this tool given how easy and fast it is. I know I've said that a few times but you really have to try it to get the full feel for the speed of this tool.</p><p>Spicing up your new Weebly website is easy as well and Weebly has plenty of theme and design choices to choose from. You can, of course, also edit the HTML/CSS directly.</p><h3>Weebly Review – Selecting a Theme:</h3><p><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/weebly16-620x82.jpg" alt="weebly review" /></p><p>I browsed through the designs they offered and there are some decent choices with more being added daily. It shouldn't be hard to find a good one to use as a basis of your site and then build from there. I like that they have a large collection as some similar tools lack in this department.</p><p>Once you've got your design, perhaps you'll want to add a page to the site or even a blog? You can do that through the Pages tab and it's just as quick and easy as the rest of the stuff I've shown you.</p><h3>Weebly Review – Managing Pages:</h3><p><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2021/07/weebly17-620x410_xhvdtm.jpg" alt="weebly review" /></p><p>For fun, I added a blog to my Weebly page, gave it a title and it immediately showed up on the site ready to be populated.</p><h3>Weebly Review – Blogging Functionality:</h3><p><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/weebly18-620x505.jpg" alt="weebly review" /></p><p>Clicking on the <i>Blog Settings</i> button, I was presented with a quick set of options for my new Weebly blog page. I expected that this would bring up a simple text editor where I'd be able to add an image and some content with a post title. I was wrong. Instead, I was given far more!</p><h3>Weebly Review – Adding a Blog Post:</h3><p><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/weebly20-620x478.jpg" alt="weebly review" /></p><p>Admittedly, I didn't expect to be able to use elements for my blog post so I was pleasantly surprised to be given such a great selection of ways to add content and media to my post. For those looking to use Weebly for blogging or should you want to incorporate blogging into your Weebly site, this is a great editor and truly fun to use and create with. You won't be lacking in features.</p><p>The next tab, <i>Editors</i>, allows you to add additional people to the site that can contribute content or administer it for you. Once you add them, you can manage them from this screen as well.</p><h3>Weebly Review – Working with Multiple Editors:</h3><p><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/coffee-desk-notes-workspace_cdxdsd.jpg" alt="weebly review" />Last but not least, the Settings tab. First on the tab are your site settings where you can change the address, title, favicon, etc.</p><h3>Weebly Review – Site Settings:</h3><p><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/weebly8.jpg" alt="weebly review" /></p><p>You are also given some SEO functionality where you can change / add a site description, meta keywords, header and footer code (good for analytics or adsense code) and add 301 redirects.</p><h3>Weebly Review – SEO Functionality:</h3><p><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/weebly9.jpg" alt="weebly review" /></p><p>On the eCommerce Settings tab, you can choose between PayPal or Google Checkout as your preferred means of processing payments. On the Mobile Settings, you can tell Weebly to display the mobile-optimized version of this website when someone visits from a mobile device. This is a great option that I was surprised to find and means that your site will be mobile responsive without any effort on your part. Lastly, you can un-publish your site or download a complete zipped version of it.</p><h2>Conclusion</h2><p>Simply put, I love Weebly. This website builder is incredibly fast, feature rich and full of all kinds of great options that allow anyone to make a great website with no coding experience at all.  I was blown away by the speed of the tool (in case you didn't notice) and as I navigated it, was repeatedly surprised by the depth of the options within.
