OmniUpdate has released version 9.15 of its OU Campus CMS. This product release includes a significant enhancement to the existing Assets feature.
Assets, like Snippets and file includes, are part of the Reusable Content functionality in OU Campus. This new release brings powerful improvements to the Assets feature in the CMS, providing many new capabilities for users and administrators. There are new options for users to filter by type, such as web content, plain text, source code, image galleries, and managed forms; filter by site, allowing users to apply Assets across OU Campus managed sites; and filter by tag, allowing for collection, aggregation, and quick selection of desired Assets. The powerful new Tagging system also makes it easier to assign tags or metadata to Assets by automatically suggesting tags. In addition to existing access settings, administrators can now choose which users have access to use specific Assets. Assets Workflow has also been enhanced with scheduled publishing options.

<h3>What is new with Constellation?</h3>
A couple new features recently added to the Constellation Suite are the ability to share data between sites/portals and automatic detection of duplicate content and assignment of canonical URL. Wow! Those words sound so nice, but what are you talking about? Lets take these features one at a time.
<h4>Data Sharing Between Sites</h4>
“Why oh why would I want to share content between websites?” Pretend for a moment that you built your site to look beautiful only on your typical browser. You did not have the foresight to make it mobile friendly so all those many thousands of tablet and smartphone users have to zoom and scroll or send your articles to a Read It Later app to keep from squinting. So, being the smart person you are, you make a mobile version of your site. Wouldn't it be nice to “share” the content from your regular site to your mobile friendly site? Wow! That would be great! That is just one example of what this “sharing” feature will allow.
<blockquote>“When shared, the content is treated like it is part of the new site instead of taking the user back to the original website. This is to make sure that the shared data doesn’t take the user off the site that they are currently browsing, prioritizing engagement on the existing site. Administrators that have permission to see all of the sites are allowed to choose what websites can share data with each other, while website administrators have the ability to decide when to use the data from another website on their particular website pages.”</blockquote>
<h4>Duplicate Content Detection</h4>
The problem that may arise is duplicate content with all this sharing going on. PackFlash has this issue covered with the update to their Friendly URLs module.

Sharing content across different sites can come in to play also when a company wants to aggregate content from child sites to a parent site. Example: Newspaper main site with content shared from multiple child sites (op-ed, sports, news, etc).

Time savings come to mind right away when thinking of the benefits of this functionality. Really anything that makes content management easier bring multiple benefits.

Real Magnet Integrates Social and Email Messaging and Tracking

In a move that's bound to cause speculation in the social media world, Twitter, the popular micro-blogging site, has snapped up staff from an email marketing startup named RestEngine. While we're not 100% clear what exact services or products RestEngine offered, we did find this diagram on their site which might help clear things up for some people:

Twitter picks up staff from Email Marketing startup RestEngine

Amazon Web Services announce AWS re: Invent Conference for Partners and Customers

Yesterday, they announced that they are rolling out this same experience for users of low bandwidth networks and older browsers. The advantage, of course, is that the incredibly popular social network is now more accessible than ever.

EpiServer ramps up Search Capabilities by acquiring Enterprise Search Solutions Provider

This new release of ExpressionEngine features a new Rich Text Editor field type, a Rich Text Editor Module to allow use of the editor on the front end, and a Cookie Consent Module designed to help European Union (EU) users comply with privacy laws impacting cookie use. In addition to a number of new features, this release improves XSS filtering and redirect behavior. For developers there are a number of new hooks and improvements, and everyone will benefit from the stability improvements provided by over 50 bug fixes.
The new Rich Text Editor provides a native way to add very lightweight ‘what you see is what you get’ (WYSIWYG) fields to the publish page. This allows content editors to work directly with rich text elements in their written content— elements like bold and italicized text, block quotes, and links— without being subjected to the HTML markup underneath. Toolsets, which consist of the various buttons that can be included in the editor, are customizable and may be saved on a per member basis. The editor can also be added to textarea fields on the frontend by using the RTE Module, which allows WYSIWYG capabilities in SafeCracker and Comments. The new editor is also developer friendly, and new buttons may be easily created using the Button API.
Another new module is the Cookie Consent Module, which was designed to help EU users meet the demands of privacy laws that prohibit setting cookies without prior consent from end users. The module prevents setting cookies using ExpressionEngine’s native cookie setting function unless consent has been granted. The module also provides means of conditionally display data based on consent status, and mechanisms for gaining such consent. See the documentation for more details.
Developers will benefit from a number of additions in this release. In addition to the developer friendly new editor, several new hooks have been added.
