82 Percent of Time Spent with Mobile Media Happens Via Apps
Mobile Metrix 2.0 enables reporting of unduplicated audience sizes across app and browser usage, providing a comprehensive view of the complete media brand reach on mobile devices. Among smartphone users age 18 and older accessing from iOS, Android and RIM smartphones, Google Sites ranked as the top property with nearly 94 million unique visitors, representing 96.9 percent of the mobile audience. Facebook ranked second with 78.0 million visitors (80.4 percent reach), followed by Yahoo! Sites with 66.2 million visitors (68.2 percent reach) and Amazon Sites 44.0 million visitors (45.4 percent reach).
Analysis of the share of time spent across apps and browsers revealed that even though these access methods had similar audience sizes, apps drove the lion’s share of engagement, representing 4 in every 5 mobile media minutes. Analysis of the top properties also revealed widely varying degrees of time spent between app and browser access methods. On Facebook, the top ranked mobile media property by engagement, 80 percent of time spent was represented by app usage compared to 20 percent via browser. Twitter saw an even higher percentage of time spent with apps at 96.5 percent of all minutes. In contrast, Microsoft Sites was among brands that saw browser access driving a majority of usage at 82.1 percent.

Top Apps Vary by iOS and Android Users 
Mobile Metrix 2.0 also offers the ability to segment consumer activity across iOS, Android and RIM platforms, providing further insight into today’s smartphone consumer. Analysis of the top iPhone and Android apps by size of audience found differences in the top apps accessed by the two operating systems. System apps topped the list for both iOS and Android, with Apple iTunes reaching nearly the entire iPhone app audience in March while 93.2 percent of Android users visited the Android app market.
Google Search ranked as the second largest app by Android audience size reaching 44.9 million users (84.1 percent reach). Google Maps led as the top map app on both platforms reaching 91.2 percent of iPhone users and 74.5 percent of Android users. The Facebook mobile app ranked within the top five apps on both platforms, securing the #3 spot among iPhone users (80 percent reach) and the #5 position with Android users (68.9 percent reach).

Smartphones Drive Significant Engagement for Leading Social Networking Brands
Social networking proved to be a particularly popular activity on smartphones with several brands demonstrating exceptionally high engagement, in some cases higher than the corresponding time spent by users via traditional web access. Facebook once again led the pack among social networking brands, with the average Facebook mobile user engaging for more than 7 hours via browser or app in March. The 25.6 million Twitter mobile users (excluding usage via third-party apps) had an average engagement of nearly 2 hours during the month. By comparison, people visiting on their computers spent just 20.4 minutes on Twitter.com, highlighting the importance of mobile engagement for mobile-centric brands. Pinterest, which has seen its adoption explode in recent months, reached 7.5 million smartphone visitors who engaged with the brand for nearly an hour. Location-based social network Foursquare attracted 5.5 million mobile visitors at an average of nearly 2.5 hours, while Tumblr reached an audience of nearly 4.5 million who engaged for 68 minutes during the month.

dotCMS 2.0 Raises the Bar in Java-based Web Content Management

MailChimp is integrating their service into so many other apps it is almost time to ask: “Which service does not have MailChimp integration?” The latest apps to join the list are: Pinterest, Instagram, and Hootsuite.
<h3>Put a Pin in it</h3>
Pinterest has a sharp inclining user base to say the least. With over 100 million (yes I said million) unique site visits in one month it is easy to see why it has MailChimp's attention.

So Pinterest is wildly popular attracting more and more users because of its easy to share pinboard style interface. Do you want to have a fun way to “bookmark” your interests? Done. Do you want to share these “pinboards” with whomever you wish? Done. But why is this integration between MailChimp and Pinterest attractive to businesses already using MailChimp for email newsletters?
For years a challenge for a typical company was connecting to their customers. It seems that the larger the company the easier it is for a communication gap to develop between said company and the end customer. What are our typical customers interested in? How do they communicate everyday? These questions beg answers and marketing departments need to tailor campaigns to the customer demographic and easily track the success or lack of success of a particular campaign. “Oh what ever can be done?” (southern ‘damsel in distress' voice)
Aha, now we see why this app integration and others like it are so meaningful for a company. If company “A” is submitting traffic on networks that potential customers frequent, company “A” stands a much better chance of engaging these individuals perhaps becoming part of their “circle” if you will.
Now you may think that it would be difficult to work with this “merging” of two different apps. MailChimp does not do “difficult”.

Founded by Dan Lopez and Ben Edmunds, Open Source runs deep with them. Both of the founders have extensive backgrounds in Open Source software and community involvement, Lopez rearchitected Linux.com and has close ties to the Joomla community, and Edmunds is the author and maintainer of Ion_auth library for Codeigniter that has been integrated into the core PyroCMS.  Lopez and Edmunds have been collaborating on software and project ideas for some time, and put together AppStucco during some brainstorming sessions, with a common goal to help move PyroCMS and Codeigniter development into the enterprise. Their hope is to create a thriving and growing worldwide community of active members, developers, and clients through AppStucco.
Lopez and Edmunds are aiming for the AppStucco commercial extension product library to continually grow as AppStuccos's offerings gain traction over the next several months. Lopez says that they are providing a unique blend of best-of-breed solutions to fit the budget and requirements of developers, small businesses and large enterprises. AppStucco will also be offering Joomla, CodeIgniter, Drupal, and integration expertise, though their concentration will be on enterprise and cloud Codeigniter and PyroCMS technologies for the foreseeable future. Edmunds says that the product roadmap is slated for monthly and quarterly releases, and that they expect exciting times ahead with cool new functionality that are in the works.

ImpressPages 2.1 now available

OpenCms 8.0.4 is an update that improves browser compatibility and fixes several issues that persisted in the 8.0.3 release.
In OpenCms 8.0.4 the TinyMCE editor has been integrated to support Microsoft's Internet Explorer 9. TinyMCE is a platform independent web based Javascript HTML WYSIWYG editor with Multilanguage support.
Italian and Russian localization of OpenCms has been contributed by the OpenCms community.
Configurable context menu dialogs have been added to the Advanced Direct Edit (ADE) mode.
OpenCms 8.0.4 offers an improved handling of deleted users in its account management's permissions dialog, an improved sitemap editor change handling and an improved synchronized lock behavior for offline indexing.
OpenCms 8.0.4 is fully backward compatible to all prior 8.x and 7.x versions. Templates and other OpenCms developed code from these version should work “out of the box” with version 8.0.4.
An easy to use update wizard for upgrading to OpenCms 8.0.4 is available, too.
