He is VP/Chief Architect at <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.altudo.co/">Altudo</a>, and a CMS Critic contributor. <hr /> When people talk about personalization, they often mean “the right content to the right person at the right time.” That idea is now past tense.I have watched this shift play out up close, from <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/products/sitecore">Sitecore’s</a> early rules-based personalization, through <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/products/contentstack">Contentstack’s</a> use of edge-based personalization in a composable architecture, to <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/products/optimizely">Optimizely’s</a> launch of Opal, a system of marketing AI agents. Personalization no longer stops at swapping content on a page. It now reaches into the interaction itself, and soon, into the relationships agents form with one another.<h3 id="when-agents-adapt-to-us">When Agents Adapt to Us</h3>That shift, from “what” to “how,” is where the major CMS players are already moving, and you can see it in the different bets they're making:<ul><li>Contentstack has put its weight behind <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/livin-on-the-edge-contentstacks-new-adaptive-dxp-might-just-rock-your-world">EDGE</a>, which they call a hyper-personalization platform. It blends their headless CMS with a real-time CDP, AI, and automation. The goal is simple but ambitious: deliver one-to-one experiences in the moment and at scale. Because it is composable, brands can adapt interactions without locking themselves into rigid patterns. What strikes me about EDGE is that it reframes personalization as something continuous, not a campaign you set and forget.</li><li>Optimizely has taken another route with <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/optimizely-opal-gets-supercharged-for-agentic-ai-powering-infinite-use-cases-for-marketers">Opal</a>. Instead of a single assistant, Opal is built as a collection of agents that act like members of a marketing team. There is a campaign manager agent, a personalization advisor, a market researcher, and more. With the 2.0 release, Optimizely put the emphasis on letting these agents collaborate and run multi-step workflows across content, data, and experimentation. I have seen teams spend weeks coordinating those same steps manually. Opal hints at a world where marketing execution is handled by an ensemble of digital teammates who can plan, act, and adjust together.</li><li>Sitecore has focused on bringing assistance directly into daily work. Through <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.sitecore.com/products/sitecore-stream">Stream</a>, they have introduced AI copilots that support authors and marketers in real time as they draft and optimize campaigns. On top of that, Sitecore’s partnership with <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/sitecore-sharpens-ai-focus-with-strategic-partnership-and-new-leadership-appointments">Gradial</a> shows how agentic workflows can extend into campaign execution. It is not just about smarter editors or quicker drafts. It is about agents that can carry intent through to delivery and adapt along the way. For a company that has lived for years in the world of static content publishing, that is a meaningful step forward.</li></ul>None of these approaches feels like a gimmick.They are different answers to the same problem: personalization is no longer about what content you are shown, it is about how the interaction unfolds. Whether that happens through hyper-personalization at the edge, through orchestrated marketing agents, or via copilots and execution partners, the shift is real and already in motion.<h3 id="what-nondeterminism-really-means">What Nondeterminism Really Means</h3>Most software behaves like math: 2 + 2 always equals 4. Generative AI does not. Ask it to draft a thank-you note and you will get three different answers, all plausible, none identical. That variability is what we call nondeterminism.It is the very thing that makes AI feel creative, but also the reason it needs personalization to stay useful. As <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://parivedasolutions.com/perspectives/managing-the-non-deterministic-nature-of-generative-ai/">Pariveda Solutions points out</a>, nondeterminism is what makes AI flexible and creative, but it also introduces governance challenges that remain unresolved. In my own work with <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://cmscritic.com/getting-loud-with-xm-cloud-sitecore-reports-100-growth-of-its-ai-powered-cloud-based-cms">XM Cloud,</a> I have seen how unpredictable outcomes can be a feature if the system adapts well – and a liability if it does not.<h3 id="when-agents-adapt-to-each-other">When Agents Adapt to Each Other</h3>The next frontier is agents adapting not just to us but to each other. Nondeterminism multiplies when two autonomous systems interact. They need ways to converge on workable outcomes.Sometimes that looks like adjusting communication style, where one agent is structured and terse, another free-form and verbose. Sometimes, it means learning to accept differences in task style, such as fast approximation versus cautious step-by-step reasoning. Other times it's about role negotiation: who leads, who validates, who escalates.And sometimes it is memory. Agents do not just adapt in the moment; they remember. That memory can look like a grudge. A search agent that hallucinated last time will get fact-checked the next. A procurement agent that botched a deal may face stricter oversight. Even first impressions stick. If an agent’s very first hand-off is sloppy, the other agent may never fully trust it, no matter how good the later work becomes.Humans behave the same way. In corporate life, one bad kickoff meeting can color a partnership for months. Agents will carry those patterns too.<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.deepset.ai/blog/ai-agents-and-deterministic-workflows-a-spectrum"> Deepset calls this the “spectrum of determinism to nondeterminism</a>.” I call it relationship management.<h3 id="everyday-illustrations">Everyday Illustrations</h3>Picture a grocery agent told to buy apples if they are $0.99 a pound. A deterministic system comes back empty because they are $1.09. An adaptive one checks with you, “They are a little higher today. Should I buy anyway?” That is useful, until the store’s own agent learns to nudge yours into paying even more.Or ride-hailing. You set a $20 target. The price surges to $23. Do you want your agent to decline, wait, or decide on its own? What happens when the ride-share’s agent starts upselling yours into priority pickup at $28?Or travel. You say, “Book me a flight under $500.” The system finds none. A flexible agent returns with, “There is one at $525 with better times. Should I grab it?” Helpful, but it shows how quickly rules can bend.In the enterprise, this gets thornier. Procurement policies might cap software licenses at $50 per seat. A deterministic agent halts the deal. A personalized one negotiates to $55 and closes it. That looks like a win until you realize the vendor’s agent deliberately anchored higher, knowing yours would flex upward.Healthcare raises the stakes even more. You ask for an appointment with your doctor next week. A rigid agent says none available. A personalized one offers a nurse practitioner tomorrow or a specialist in two weeks. That looks like a better experience, but it could also push you toward higher-margin services instead of the care you really wanted.<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.salesforce.com/blog/deterministic-ai/">Salesforce has written about this exact problem</a> of when to script agents tightly and when to let them roam. I see it every day in delivery projects. Too rigid and you frustrate users. Too loose and you open the door to manipulation.<h3 id="agents-that-carry-“you”-with-them">Agents That Carry “You” With Them</h3>Now push it further. Imagine your agent not only executes tasks but carries your personality footprint into every interaction. If you are cost-sensitive, it pushes harder. If you are time-poor, it pays more for speed. If you are detail-driven, it double-checks everything.What if you could swap personas entirely?<ul><li>"Frugal Andy" does the grocery shopping</li><li>"Executive Andy" books the flights</li><li>"Playful Andy" explores games and hobbies.</li></ul>Your agent would not only personalize to you. It would personalize as you.But there is risk in this. If the other agent knows who you are or which persona you are using, it can adapt back. That can be powerful when aligned with your goals, but it can also be exploited. Imagine a vendor agent that recognizes executive mode and steers you toward premium packages.This is not hypothetical. Optimizely’s Opal agents already act like different team members depending on context. Contentstack’s Brand Kit lets you define voice profiles and store guidelines so that every AI-generated artifact reflects your identity. Sitecore’s Stream copilots are designed to guide content creators in real time, aligning their work with brand and role expectations.These are early signals of a future where agents carry pieces of us, including quirks, preferences, and even biases, into every exchange.<h3 id="why-this-matters">Why This Matters</h3>This is why nondeterminism is not a flaw but the feature. Deterministic systems did not need personalization. There was only one output. Nondeterministic systems can go in many directions, and personalization is what prevents chaos.The best metaphor I know is jazz. Musicians improvising do not know exactly where the others will go. They adapt, they respond, they personalize their playing to the group. The music works not because it is scripted but because the players trust each other enough to bend and flex.<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.mckinsey.com/capabilities/quantumblack/our-insights/seizing-the-agentic-ai-advantage">McKinsey has argued</a> that this adaptability is the defining advantage of agentic AI. From what I have seen in publishing systems, SaaS cost optimization, and large-scale CMS migrations, I agree. The resilience comes not from rigid plans but from the ability to adapt in context.<h3 id="what-leaders-should-prepare-for">What Leaders Should Prepare For</h3>Leaders should focus on their readiness in key areas. For example, trust frameworks must extend beyond human-agent interactions into agent-to-agent ecosystems. Standards cannot stay as fixed APIs; they need flexibility built in. Identity management has to protect personality profiles and alter egos from misuse. And agents must be able to remember not just what they did for us, but how they worked with others.<h3 id="the-future-of-personalization">The Future of Personalization</h3>Personalization started with content. It evolved into experiences. Now, it is moving into interactions – first with humans and then with other agents.If we get this right, nondeterminism will not be something to suppress. It will be the source of resilience, adaptability, and creativity. The companies that thrive will not just personalize their websites. They will personalize their agents. Those agents will adapt to us, and to each other, in ways that reflect who we are or even who we choose to be.And like humans, they will remember. First impressions will matter. Grudges may form. Agent-to-Agent Personalization: Trust, First Impressions, and the 'Grudge' Factor

This week, <a href="https://www.socialengine.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">SocialEngine PHP</a> received a number of updates and bug fixes, as version 4.8 was released.
SocialEngine is a social networking platform which lets you build a social website or online community. Separate from SocialEngine Cloud, SocialEngine PHP is the non-hosted version of SocialEngine, which gives you a simple, unbranded network that you can customize in any way. It allows you the freedom to maintain fine-grained control over all aspects of your site and content.
Version 4.8 brings about five core changes, which are:
<ul>
<li>Option to hide subscription plans for users after they sign up</li>
<li>Upgraded Zend Framework to v1.12.3</li>
<li>Improved the robustness of the email queue</li>
<li>Improved compatibility with older FFMpeg versions</li>
<li>Added bot sign-up mitigation</li>
</ul>
Furthermore, SocialEngine have also made a long list of bug fixes relating to poll searching, PayPal payment gateway testing, forum quote buttons, ReCaptcha for SSL and sign ins, along with much more.
SocialEngine users can grab the new version from the client area. Although, SocialEngine have made it a point to remind users that they should make a complete backup of their installation before performing an upgrade.
Also, significant custom changes which you may have made to your source code may pose problems during the upgrade process. If which case, SocialEngine also encourages users to enlist a developer to help you if you’re not comfortable with the process yourself.

Jahia have released the latest edition of their open source, enterprise content management system, Jahia 7. Jahia 7 brings with it some significant improvements over previous version of the ECM including powerful Distributed Development features &amp; Private App Stores to re-use and distribute components securely with a new OSGi integration.

Jahia announce the release of Jahia 7

DPCI, an interactive technology agency that helps organizations create, publish, enrich and deliver content to Web, print, mobile, and tablet devices, today announced the release of <a href="http://www.databasepublish.com/dpsbridge">DPSBridge</a>, a Drupal contributed module that allows customers of Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (Enterprise Edition) to upload Web content from Drupal into Adobe DPS folios as HTML Articles. By connecting Drupal with DPS, organizations now have the option to create folios for Adobe DPS apps straight from source content within Drupal.

The DPSBridge module, which is an open-source Drupal module maintained by DPCI, converts selected web articles into HTML stacks and then uploads the articles directly to the Folio Producer Service in DPS by utilizing the Folio Producer APIs. In addition, DPSBridge compares each selected Drupal article with the version in the folio and indicates when the content is out of sync. An authorized user can then update the contents of the folio to utilize the most current version of the Drupal article. This functionality can all be accessed directly from within Drupal’s admin interface without having to jump out to the desktop or another application interface.

Kentico have released the latest version of their popular web content management solution.
Kentico 8 represents a significant improvement over previous releases with a completely redesigned and improved interface and a number of enhancements to their integrated marketing suite as well.

There are three key reasons to use the SDK when building mobile apps. These are:

Mobile apps designed by retail companies for their customers for instance, could take advantage of shopping catalog integration to quickly develop a native mobile e-commerce app. The experience could also be further enhanced with the phone’s camera and location services.
For the long-term, Liferay is hoping that its portal can be used as a central hub that aggregates data and interactions from mobile devices to help companies understand the needs and preferences of their customers and employees. Although in facing privacy issues, Liferay will naturally need to consider how companies can give more control of personal information to the users of the mobile apps they create.

Liferay Releases SDK to Streamline Custom Mobile App Development

Squarespace, like most vendors, is constantly adding updates to improve the functionality of their product and bring new and useful features to their customers. Recently, they introduced a couple of new features that are now available for Squarespace customers to add to their websites.
The first new feature is the addition of a Mobile Information Bar. Here's how it works:
When the Mobile Information Bar is enabled, visitors accessing your site from mobile devices will see a simple shortcut bar that helps them quickly find your most important business information: your address, email, phone number, and business hours (see below).

The recent shortcomings of the healthcare.gov website may have put health information management (HIM) in the United States in a particularly uncomfortable spotlight – but the truth is, managing content for the vast and vital systems that the healthcare industry requires is a constant and enormous challenge everywhere across the globe.

SageFrame 3.0 Community Version Released

Earlier today we had a chance to sit down and speak with Jon Voigt, CEO and Founder of Agility to get his take on where he sees the company going and his plans for the future of Agility since taking over his new role as CEO late last year.
Can you tell me a bit about yourself, your background and how you became involved with Agility CMS?
Sure, I went to the University of Guelph for Systems and Computing Engineering. I started working in downtown Toronto as a software developer after I graduated. I ended up moving into the same building as Michael Assad, who I went to high school with years before. 
We ended up hanging out again, and began to discuss starting a company. It was originally called Edentity Consulting. I left my current position, and Mike and I founded Edentity after we signed a few deals. Two years or so later, we started development of our CMS platform; it was called WebConnect. We rebranded it a year later as Agility CMS. Then in 2006, we rebranded the company as Agility Inc. when we started focusing all of our efforts in to the CMS Platform.
This past year, Michael left Agility to strike out on his own leaving you at the helm of the company. Can you tell us a bit about what brought about that decision, was it mutual or unexpected and are you confident in your new position?

Mike and I had been running the business for almost 12 years together, and it has worked very well – even up until the last few days of working together. The decision was not an easy one. We had been discussing which direction to take things and where to focus.
We agreed on a lot, but not everything in terms of the direction of Agility. We came up with this setup, and he still owns part of the company; and Mike will continue to help with any transitions going forward. He took a position with an engineering company and is helping them out with sales and marketing. I took over as CEO and am pushing forward. We both really looked at each other’s roles over the last year and we were both ready to jump in if either one left. The transition was very quick and easy.
I'm feeling really good in this position. We refocused a few roles and started a new brand realignment with the launch of our new website. We just hired another employee, and we’re currently looking for a developer. We have a few other positions which we plan to open in Q2. 
Mike and I are still great friends. He's in my wedding party next month, and there are no hard feelings. It really couldn't have worked out better for him, myself, or Agility.

Why don't you tell us a bit about your plans for Agility now that you are at the helm. What do you see yourself doing differently from what we've seen in the past (whether it be direction wise or technology wise or a combination of the two).
A couple years ago, we announced that we were fully getting rid of our professional services. We moved most services to our partners. Now, we’re reintroducing a portion of our services; mainly around setup, configuration and content architecture. We can bring premium expertise and business strategy to the table, and help setup and organize projects on Agility for success.
We are also building out our partner network to include a wider variety of suppliers/implementers – this includes everything from content strategy and content entry to moderation, architecture, development, and low level load testing.
On the product side, we’ve refocused the Magazine Suite, a product built on Agility called which was used by print publications, blogs, content marketing sites and online magazines. We've renamed the product the Publishing Package which is focused specifically on magazines and online publications. We’ve then also created a new package called the Content Marketing Package, which is focused specifically on content marketing.
These two Packages are just the start. We’re looking to partners and other industry leaders to build out packages that are tailored to different industries. The idea is that they are more than just templates and modules, but are sites that are setup and are optimized to benefits their specific industry.  All with support and help of partners and experts that know those industries.
The pricing for these Packages is a one-time setup fee of $2000 for the design and setup, with Agility licensing on top for support, hosting and software licensing.  This really makes these sites affordable for these industries while allowing these customers to customize and expand the site as much as they want going forward.
Another big push this year will be our focus on brand cohesion. Starting with our newly launched site, we plan to refresh and optimize every aspect of our company. Thus includes our support systems, developer support, training, help, finance and the Agility Platform itself.
We are seeing a shift in the way a typical CMS needs to work. In the past, as you know, it used to be the technical people that managed the CMS and the marketing people who looked after trying to stay on top of trends and promote their organizations. Nowadays, things have changed and the people in control are a blend of both. How does Agility assist these individuals in achieving the goals of keeping their organizations on top of the latest changes in the industry (Whether it be the mobile space, social integration or connectivity with marketing suites and platforms). Further to this, do you have any plans to offer some form of marketing suite or integration with an existing one?
Agility has always been great for companies who look to expand and adopt new technologies and trends, whether this is a marketing team or on the development side. Its architecture allows integration with other systems and the ability to easily add built-in custom modules. Therefore, many companies can retain their current investments and add features in the future. This is true for both developers and marketing professionals. They can either easily integrate other systems or manage things themselves. This has been proven with Cineplex, Shoppers Drug Mart, and many more.  Customers continually add new features, integrations and continually adopt new trends and they needed a system that can expand with them. Many of our customers are already driven by the requirements of the sales and marketing teams.
Marketing teams now get more say and more push in decisions, which has been a benefit for us. We take the approach that integrating with different best-of-breed systems versus building everything into one system.  Most companies that are driven by their marketing team come to us and say they want a CMS, and they want it to integrate with specific systems. Most of the time, they want to integrate with systems and marketing platforms that they are already using, so we work with them to make that possible. It’s a win-win on both sides. It allows us to put more energy into how Agility publishes content, integrates with systems and the support and hosting around our platform while they get to use the systems they want.
If you could achieve one major goal with Agility in the next 2 years what would it be and why?
One major goal would be to double our team over the next year, and expand more aggressively into the US by opening offices there.
Whom do you see as your biggest competitors there?
Our biggest competitors vary, depending on the industry – with larger sites, probably Kentico and SiteCore. With smaller sites, WordPress and Drupal.
What do you think separates your product from Drupal and WordPress?
The biggest thing is our expertise, support, hosting and the fact that we have a true cloud solution. Most CMS platforms that say they are cloud mean they are just hosted in the cloud but the benefit of SaaS is that there is one platform that everyone is one and everyone benefits from the new features, upgrades and one strong support team.  Since Agility is a multi-tenant SaaS offering, we have one version of the software that constantly get updates. As we roll out updates, everyone gets them, and there are no annoying upgrades.  We can provide support on a single system and news features benefit everyone!  We also have the benefits of cloud with scalability and performance as well.  Our unique approach to a separate SaaS platform for the admin and a website portion that can be 100% is needed allows us to get the benefits of SaaS and the flexibility of a completely custom system if desired.
Integrations are huge as well. We have so many ways to plug-in systems, and lots of enterprise-level examples of integrations.  WordPress was originally a blog and has been enhanced a lot since the initial days but it does have its limitations without completely rewriting it and therefore removing any chance of upgrading or using new plugins.
What about the Aquia Cloud though, how do you see Agility against their implementation?
Aquia Cloud is cloud hosting for Drupal, which means each instance is separate; you still need to worry about upgrades and plug-in compatibility. WordPress and Drupal are still great platforms for specific situations; we just solve things a little differently. We prefer to be able to roll out new features and enhancements to everyone all at once and support everyone not just the customers on the latest versions because every one of our customers is on the latest version.
Makes sense, where do you see Agility in the next 5 years?
Agility will be much more focused on an array of verticals and working with different partners across North America. We will be accessible on any device both from an admin and from a front end perspective.
Are there any upcoming integrations in the works that you can share with us?
We have a number of smaller integrations that we're working on with Adobe and Google as well as smaller integrations with different forum packages.

Ecommerce features have only recently been available to <a href="https://www.weebly.com/" target="_blank"> Weebly</a> users, but this week, Weebly have introduced yet more ecommerce improvements, along with an updated Stock Photo library.
Early in 2014, <a href="/weebly-introduces-ecommerce-and-ssl-features/#.UzP8Wvl_vvU" target="_blank"> Weebly released an integrated shopping cart</a> along with a myriad of ecommerce features, enabling its user base to sell physical and digital goods.
Now, after listening to user requests and suggestions, <a href="https://www.weebly.com/">Weebly</a> have added further ecommerce enhancements. So, let's have a look at what's new.
<h2>Order Notes, Quickbooks &amp; CSV Exporting</h2>
Giving customers a voice when they make an order is important, and Weebly have recognized this. Now, all of your customers have the option to leave an optional “Note to Seller” during checkout, letting you know if they want you to handle any other specifics.
This new feature can be configured via the Store tab under Settings &gt; General.

What's also new for Weebly merchants, is the ability to export orders directly from your store dashboard. One-click data conversion and collection makes it easy to sync store order information with your Quickbooks software.
CSV exporting is available for free on all Weebly plans, whilst only Business Plan users can enjoy the Quickbooks exporting feature.

<h2>Google Analytics, Pixel Tracking &amp; Stock Photos</h2>
Knowing how your customers and visitors behave when they visit your store is vital to knowing where to improve.
To help you out with that, you can now add Google Analytics to your store and tracking pixels to your Cart, Payment, or Receipt pages from the advanced settings interface.

Finally, Weebly have also made improvements to their Stock Photo library, which offers 12 million professional and free stock photos. The professional photos can even be purchased directly from the Weebly interface.

Photos taken from the library can not only be used in pages and blog posts, but also within backgrounds to help give your store a more personalised look and feel.

Weebly Introduce Further Ecommerce & Stock Photo Updates

The 2014 Adobe Digital Marketing Summit is underway and the two opening keynotes have come to completion. With over 5,500 guests in attendance this year, this has to be one of the biggest conferences we've attended in 2014.
These conferences aren't just about Adobe, however, even though the name would imply as much. They are more about how companies and marketers are having to work together to stay on top of the ever growing digital marketplace. With technology advancing at such a rapid pace nowadays, entire teams have to be dedicated to marketing and the development of strong digital strategies in order to stay competitive.
What we find at these annual summits is that more and more marketers are looking for ways to bring their organizations into the digital world and merge the many silos that exist within their organizations (IT, Marketing, Executive Office, Sales, etc). These conferences help give insight into what some large successful companies are doing and, more importantly, how they are doing it. Sure, the organizations and individuals that are often brought to the stage are in relationships with Adobe but this doesn't make the information any less useful or interesting for marketers using other platforms. There is inspiration in their words and we often leave these sessions feeling energized and ready to tackle new challenges.
There is no doubt that Adobe is at the forefront of innovation when it comes to digital marketing. They are investing enormous amounts of money and time developing their product to suit the needs of massive enterprises such as FedEx, Audi, Condé Nast, SAP to name a few and they are certainly doing a good job at it. Their interface is easy to use, visually attractive and works relatively seamlessly and they are tireless in their desire to continue to advance their product, something that is quite evident year over year.
