Telerik, an end-to-end provider of software application lifecycle and content management solutions, has revealed the latest release for Sitefinity, its award-winning Content Management System (CMS). In Sitefinity 4.4, customers will find a fully integrated Module Builder, enabling website administrators to rapidly create new content-types using a web-based UI. Another highlight of the release is the site synchronization feature, which facilitates synchronization of data across multiple sites and environments. Sitefinity 4.4 accelerates the website development and content creation processes, boosting overall productivity and minimizing costs.
Central to the Sitefinity 4.4 release is its Module Builder, which elevates overall productivity by empowering administrators to create custom content types and associated fields with minimal time and effort. Depending on the use case, site administrators can define required fields and select field validations to create a custom module tailored for their specific scenario. Upon installation of the custom module, Sitefinity will auto-generate any necessary administration interfaces, API, permissions, workflows, and more, allowing users to quickly get sites up and running, while still allowing .NET developers to customize the project through Visual Studio or through the integrated back-end configurator.
Also debuting in this release is a new Code Reference tool that puts the developer’s documentation in context with the custom modules. Sitefinity generates a set of ready-to-use code snippets based on the created custom types and fields, thus improving efficiency by eliminating the need to reference lengthy manuals.
“Customization is among the key features when choosing a CMS, especially for our clients who are always striving to maximize productivity. The focus of Sitefinity has always been on making everyone using the system more productive as well as making Sitefinity easier and more pleasant to work with,” said Martin Kirov, executive vice president of Sitefinity at Telerik. “The new Module Builder is the culmination of more than two years of hard work rebuilding Sitefinity from the ground up to be the most extensible .NET web platform. It brings customization and extensibility to a whole new level and sets the foundation for many new Sitefinity features and modules which we and our clients and partners can now build much faster.”
Also new with this release is site synchronization, which advances Telerik’s goal of streamlining the management of web assets in multi-tier environments. Site Sync makes Sitefinity an ideal solution for enterprises with mature internal development processes, high website traffic volumes, multiple sites and servers. The new site synchronization technology ensures content synchronization of content blocks, news, blogs, documents, videos, pages, templates as well as taxonomies among multiple websites and environments, including live, test, and staging servers. Administrators can be assured that content or data updates will be reflected uniformly across all sites and servers, helping them to easily deliver the most up-to-date information.
A host of other enhancements and refinements are making their debut, including improvements to Sitefinity’s rapidly maturing ecommerce module. As part of this latest release, storeowners have the flexibility to define product variations for style, color, and other variables, giving customers more freedom of choice and simplifying the purchasing process.

A new version of <a href="http://www.liferay.com">Liferay</a> Community Edition has been released. Version 6.1 brings with it a huge list of new features. Here is a partial list from the release announcement posted on the Liferay website:
In addition to the numerous bugs that have been fixed since 6.0 GA4, Many new features and improvements have gone into this release. Highlights include:
<ul>
<li>Updated Support Matrix – Liferay's general policy is to update our support matrix for each release, testing Liferay against newer major releases of supporting operating systems, app servers, browsers, and databases (we reguarly update the bundled upstream open source libraries to fix bugs or take advantage of new features in the open source we depend on).  For example, we are moving to Tomcat 7.x, MySQL 5.5.x, JBoss AS 7, Geronimo 2.2.1, and others.</li>
<li>UI Refinements – Too numerous to list here.  Many tasks that used to require a trip to Control Panel (thus losing your UI context) can now be done via the “Manage” menu.  Document Libary has gotten a sweet overhaul.  General improvements in snappiness.</li>
<li>Sites – As described in Jorge's blog and now in the official documentation, the Sites concept has been introduced, decoupling a set of pages from an associated community or organization.  This is one of the big conceptual changes in 6.1.</li>
<li>Setup Wizard – To ease the first-time configuration of a portal (and its associated database), when starting a new instance of Liferay, the optional Setup Wizard will prompt for and configure these items for you.  No more mucking about with <code>portal-ext.properties</code> for those basic configurations everyone wants to do initially.</li>
<li>Marketplace Support – Groundwork in the form of app hot deploy and marketplace browsing has been introduced into 6.1, gearing up for the opening of the Marketplace later this year.</li>
<li>Mobile Device Enhancements –  For example,  mobile device rules allow you to configure sets of rules and use those rules to alter the behavior of the portal based on the device being used to access Liferay. You can also access and evaluate rules through custom scripts.</li>
<li>Social Activity Improvements – Many improvements to the social value system (formerly known as Social Equity).  Check out the official documentation on what's new.</li>
<li>JSON Web Service Improvements – A lot of work has been done in this area, making it much easier to invoke Liferay's services using REST-like (AtomPub-based) JSON (e.g. through supplied JavaScript libraries, or through standard HTTP requests).  Online documentation is also available (check out <code>http://localhost:8080/api/jsonws</code> on your local install. Sweetness!)</li>
<li>Asset Publisher Improvements – The darling of the supplied out-of-box portlets, Asset Publisher can now do things like showand publish content from/to multiple scopes, better linking behavior for assets, and many more.</li>
<li>Content Management Goodness – One of Liferay's core strengths is its simple yet powerful Web Content Management System.  There have been many usability and functional improvements to it, including inline drag/drop structure editing, internationalized web content titles, preloading of structures on template creation, selection of default display pages, and more!</li>
<li>Search Improvements – Lots of performance and accuracy improvements.  Including users in search results.</li>
<li>Unification of the Document Library and Image Gallery – these two apps have historically overlapped each other – that overlap has now been eliminated, by combining the two into a Documents and Media app (with a much fancier UI to boot).</li>
<li>Multiple Repository Mounting.  In the new Documents and Media app, you can now mount multiple repositories (e.g. through CMIS) and develop custom connectors to link to existing CMS repositories.  Features that overlap with Liferay are respected (e.g. permissioning, locking, etc).</li>
<li>Native support for storing and serving videos and other media types – Liferay now includes preview functionality for rendering PDFs and other common document formats in-browser, eliminating the need for external apps to view.  In addition, audio and video can be captured and played back from within Liferay.</li>
<li>Robust content metadata management – New metadata management tools and UIs to easily capture extra metadata related to documents, for efficient searching and categorization of documents.  Sales team uploading this year's financial data?  Let them enter the “bottom line” numbers into well defined metadata fields for easy sorting and searching.</li>
<li>Establishing contextual relationships between content types – with the Related Assets feature, any asset can be dynamically related to any other asset, for easy cross-referencing.  For example, link to a document in a meeting request, or relate a forum post to a blog entry.  Relations can be mined and analyzed later.</li>
<li>Enhanced staging support (including Site Branching, Versioning, and Rollback).  A major overhaul of the staging feature, Liferay allows concurrent editing of sites, with versioning and rollback (undo/redo) of changes on the fly.</li>
<li>Dynamic Site and Page Templates – One can now create an entire site based on a site template.  When changes are made to the template, the changes are automatically (and smartly) applied to any derived sites.  Sites can later be unlinked if needed, allowing independent forking.</li>
<li>User Customizable Pages – Allows your users to customize certain areas of a site's pages, while keeping other areas fixed.</li>
<li>User Defined Lists (Dynamic Data Lists) – A very powerful feature that allows one to create a custom data list based on a user-specified schema.  Data can be extracted for reporting, or any other use.</li>
<li>Unified User Management – Liferay has always had the ability to be your central directory of users.  The management of said users has not always been easy.  In Liferay 6.1, users and their associated organizations can be viewed hierarchically, allowing easy navigation into your user directory.</li>
<li>OpenSocial 1.1 Support – this includes the new pub/sub feature from OpenSocial.</li>
<li>Enhancements for Liferay IDE – It's never been easier to develop for the Liferay Platform, using the latest features of Liferay 6.1 and the Liferay IDE.  Liferay 6.1 now includes a remote server deployment plugin, allowing development against a remote instance of Liferay.  Simply throw a switch to publish your tested changes to a production environment.</li>
<li>More social networking and collaboration feaures (too many to list them all!) – anonymous comments that are later associated with you when you sign up, follow support, anonymous ratings, related assets, social activity improvements (already discussed above), wiki images, setting threads as questions by default, and, and.. well.. just try it!</li>
<li>Better Scalability</li>
<li>Better Auditing, Management and Monitoring</li>
<li>Better Documentation</li>
<li>Better Security</li>
<li>Better Quality</li>
<li>… And more!</li>
</ul>

e107 Inc. announces new branding and the release of v1.0 of its website content management system.
For the past 9 years the open-source CMS e107 has been mostly a hobby project of a few dedicated PHP developers. Despite its lack of funding or marketing over that time, e107 has continued to be a favorite CMS for the 150,000+ people and companies who use it. e107's strength lies in it's simple, intuitive interface and flexible architecture which allows the system to perform well on anything from blogs and personal websites to business sites and intranets.
<blockquote>
“For many years e107 lacked some of the ‘eye-candy' of other content management systems such as WordPress or Joomla.”, says Cameron Hanly, CEO of e107 Inc. “It was like a powerful engine in the body of an old-looking car and we believe some may have overlooked the potential of our CMS as a result.”
</blockquote>
Now, e107 Inc. hopes to change that with its new website design, new branding and a <a href="http://www.e107.org/download/">new release</a> of it's software – v1.0.

A new version of Concrete5 is now available. Here are some of the changes from the release announcement:
<blockquote>
We completely changed the way installation works so it is much easier to build a starting point. You can even install completely from the command line. We also took the time to rethink Scrapbooks which had evolved “organically” and had any number of issues. Now there’s Stacks which let you clump different blocks together into one reusable element. Permissions, versions – everything you’d expect from a concrete5 page all work on a Stack. Very cool.
We also spent a fair amount of energy on performance concerns. Lots of cleanup on less than optimal queries, extra object loads, etc. We even consolidated and rearranged javascript a bit more to just create that snappier feel everyone likes.

The video sharing cms CumulusClips is officially out of Beta and released a stable version (v.1.1). CumulusClips is an open source video script that allows users to create their own video website or YouTube like clone. CumulusClips has several great attributes. These include free &amp; open source, mobile support, and automatic updates, just to name a few.
With all the hype surrounding the video recently more specifically online video this is a major break through. Users can now deploy their own branded video communities without relying on the major players like YouTube and Vimeo.
Users have been able to build their own video websites for a while now however these solutions were usually tagged with a hefty price tag (like BrightCove) or encumbered with encrypted source code like other video cms'.

Newscoop, the open source content management system for online news media, has a new major release out in beta. Newscoop 4.0 adds the possibility to build a community platform into a news website, allowing newspapers to grow and manage vibrant communities around their content.
The feature was developed in close partnership with the groundbreaking Swiss online-print news hybrid TagesWoche, who attracted 2500 people into their community in the first week following their October launch. Newscoop has primarily found a niche powering independently online publications like TagesWoche, El Faro, the first digital newspaper in Latin America, or West Africa Democracy Radio, who were honoured this year with the Knight-Batten Innovations in Journalism Award for their use of Newscoop.
More information and free downloads are available at http://sourcefabric.org/en/newscoop/latestrelease .
Other features included in Newscoop 4.0, which will see its full public release in early 2012, include improved themes, with which complex platforms can be redesigned with one click. Sourcefabric will launch their Theme Park in 2012 featuring a library of free, 100% customisable themes.
Article Playlists now allow editors and journalists to easily create lists of articles and display them on their site, making it easy to create articles round-ups or particular news focuses. With Related Articles, journalists can now ‘relate’ articles to other articles from the Article Edit screen, allowing connections to be made between stories regardless of the author or topic (a feature TagesWoche uses for their acclaimed in-depth feature Dossiers).
Overhauled comments, article webcodes that allow linking from a print edition, a feedback messaging system and numerous bug fixes and other performance tweaks complete the release.

The Symphony CMS team dropped me a line to let me know that they've just launched a new website, <a href="http://symphonyextensions.com">symphonyextensions.com</a>, to aggregate all of the 350+ Symphony extensions that exist on GitHub.
They've developed our own XML schema for documenting extension metadata (changelogs, versions, dependencies, authors etc.), which is similar to the packages.json that the node.js world is inheriting, so that this website, and one day Symphony, can consume and intelligently parse it.
The site allows developers to add their repositories in one click (after signing in with GitHub), and allows site builders to quickly discover new extensions by recency of update or by popularity. Check it out.

Hannon Hill Corporation, has released <a href="http://goo.gl/xH4NF" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Cascade Server 7.0 for beta testing</a>. The newest version of its CMS software introduces several major new features, including a Twitter feed module, deep site copy, inline regions, and an improved asset chooser. The introduction of the Twitter module represents a new strategic initiative by the company to offer more components that end users can easily set up to generate dynamic content for their websites that would normally require more technical expertise.
The Twitter feed block is the first of many modules that Hannon Hill plans to offer in future versions of Cascade Server. It allows end users to insert a feed of Twitter comments into any region of a page on their website, and it can be customized to pull in any combination of tweets and mentions for a specific account or use a general search query. Hannon Hill’s module strategy was created to provide more out-of-the-box functionality to end users for organizations with limited IT resources, while still allowing full customization of site features and maximum flexibility.
Deep site copy allows users to copy all of the content of entire sites, including navigation and administration assets. Links contained within assets of a site will be re-aligned in the site copy to point to the corresponding assets within the copied site. These and other improvements to the existing site copy functionality will make it easier for customers to create new sites from existing template sites.
“Deep Site Copy is going to be a game changer for templating out entire Sites,” said Charlie Holder, Sales Engineer for Cascade Server. “Bringing new departments and organizations into Cascade will be as simple as starting the copy routine.”
Other noteworthy features include inline regions and an improved asset chooser. Inline regions allow non-technical users to apply blocks to similar pages from the page edit screen. The improved asset chooser includes a new dropdown menu with historical items and search results and appears as an inline overlay rather than a pop-up window.
Hannon Hill CEO, Kat Liendgens commented, “We always strive to ensure that in every release of Cascade Server, there's something for everybody, including administrators, developers, and end users. Cascade Server 7 is chock-full of great features, but it is also a true testament to our philosophy to always put our customers first and to listen to their ideas and suggestions.”
Hannon Hill’s customers have been notified of the beta release and invited to test the new features in a sandbox environment or by downloading and installing it on a test server. Users who have previously tested a Cascade beta release can use their existing credentials again, and other customers can request access to test Cascade Server 7.0 Beta. For more information, please see the Cascade Server 7.0 Release Notes or visit <a href="http://goo.gl/9nE3y" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">HannonHill.com</a>.

Nuxeo, the provider of an open source content management platform for business applications, today announced the availability of Nuxeo Platform 5.5, a significant upgrade to the company’s unified platform for building and running content-centric applications. Nuxeo Platform 5.5 offers a complete set of enterprise content management applications, including document, digital asset and case management, as well as social collaboration features, mobile readiness and an improved developer experience. It is ideal for deploying a large range of solutions in a single repository – from basic to customized, vertically specific, content-centric applications.
Social Collaboration Nuxeo Platform 5.5 streamlines communications and interactions within enterprises with a novel social collaboration module that enables the capture of project- and community-centric exchanges with a searchable and traceable flow. Features include new social workspaces, an activity stream, circle-based relationship network management and micro-messaging.
“The new social collaboration features are pivotal to the cooperation and sharing of knowledge between our many different communities of students, teachers and researchers,” said Mustapha Alouani, service research and development manager, École Centrale Paris (ECP), an elite engineering school in France. “Working with the Nuxeo team, we have developed a united, integrated solution with the modularity and extensibility to grow with ECP’s use adoption.”
Mobile Android Readiness In addition, Nuxeo Platform 5.5 delivers features to any Android-based mobile device, a giant step towards mobile content management. A ready-to-use Android client SDK is delivered separately, offering API access to power customization, synchronization, client-side storage, and authentication and offline capabilities. The solution also offers an offline mode; documents and content are available on the mobile device even when it is offline, and content and documents are synced back to the server when the connection resumes.
Improved Developer Experience Nuxeo Platform 5.5 is an important step in Nuxeo’s commitment to arming developers with the right tools to boost productivity and improve their experience, providing faster time to market and better quality of content management projects.
Developers building on Nuxeo Platform 5.5 will benefit from Nuxeo IDE features such as the hot reload capability, wizards and templates, as well as a range of new features for Nuxeo Studio, the customization and configuration environment provided as a service for the platform, such as better support for multimedia assets and case-centric applications. User interface and graphic designers will welcome a new theme and style engine that makes it easier to customize the look and feel, offering a simple yet powerful cascading style sheets framework.
As well, architects can build on a unified software platform that meets the requirements of multiple, complex enterprise projects and all content management needs. The single underlying platform and infrastructure now includes modules for document, digital asset and case management, resulting in simpler application maintenance and management.
“Nuxeo’s bundling of platform and application technology, along with the ability for customers to select or deselect modules during installation, is meant to help architects match the application to functional and technical project requirements, and lay the foundation for future changes,” said Kathleen Reidy, from The 451 Group. “This can work because of the openness and modularity of Nuxeo’s ECM platform.”
The modular, flexible architecture of the Nuxeo Platform makes developers more productive by enabling them to focus solely on design and development, and reduces IT costs by easily fitting into any IT strategy, architecture or design with unparalleled ease and maintenance. It also accelerates and automates many of the manual processes of customization work, enabling architects to focus entirely on the specific needs of business applications and function innovations, rather than custom code, ensuring delivery of reliable, sustainable, high-quality code and software that can be easily upgraded without recreating the custom capabilities.
“With Nuxeo Platform 5.5, organizations now have greater control and ease of development with a single software package, and formerly independent products now run together, making the same content available for different use cases,” said Eric Barroca, Nuxeo CEO. “The social collaboration features and Android-readiness also take content management capabilities to a new level of performance we know will be much appreciated by our customers.”
Availability Nuxeo Platform 5.5 is currently available on premise or as platform-as-a-service (PaaS) in the cloud, enabling maximum deployment and management flexibility so organizations are not locked into a single option, whether content, application or infrastructure. The Nuxeo Connect subscription is available to offer support, maintenance and an automated customization toolset with the option of a development-to-deployment environment in the cloud.
For more information on Nuxeo and to download Nuxeo Platform 5.5 visit <a href="http://www.nuxeo.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">www.nuxeo.com</a>.
