LightCMS have announced a major security update that relates to connecting with your LightCMS website via FTP.
Used by more than 175,000 people around the world, LightCMS makes us of standardized code and a vast array of tools to make up a powerful suite capable of building corporate websites, eCommerce websites, Blogs, and more.
With this FTP Secure protocol update, which is due to roll out on June 2nd, 2014, LightCMS users will experience a far safer connection. Connecting to websites via FTP is a popular method of making changes to web property, and so many LightCMS users will likely be affected by this change.

Each App group box can be assigned a specific color, and those colors have a big impact on the way users first experience Apps. Poor color contrast in the App group can make an otherwise great App appear unprofessional.

The Best Practices for Designing a Magnolia App

Following two years worth of development, Elgg – a social networking CMS – has rolled out a release candidate for version 1.9.0.
Elgg is a free and open-source social network software. With it, you can build a variety of online social environments, from a campus-wide social network for your university, school, or college to an internal collaborative platform for your organization.
Although this release is only a release candidate meant for developers and bug hunters, this is still great news for all Elgg users, as the final release of Elgg 1.9.0 cannot now be far away.

SeoToaster CMS Unveils New Features & Revamped UI

<a href="http://redaxscript.com" target="_blank">Redaxscript</a> have announcd the release of version 2.1.0 of their powerful platform.
Initially started in 2008 as a fork of sNews CMS, Redaxscript is a free and open-source content management system based on PHP scripting language and MySQL database engine. It is almost entirely written using functional programming.
The last release of Redaxscript, <a href="/redaxscript-2.0.0-released/" target="_blank"> back in November 2013</a>, saw a number of enhancements to things like the admin panel, templates and more. With version 2.1.0 though, Redaxscript have taken those enhancements a step further.
<h2>Flat Template Style &amp; Vendor Prefixes</h2>
Redaxscript have followed up on their work with version 2.0.0 of their platform by continuing to flatten the admin and default templates.
For example, a couple of user interface elements like accordion, dialog and tab have experienced a colour revision. Most partials have also been extended with inline comments and divided into more files to improve readability and speed up workflow.

Furthermore, Redaxscript have endeavoured to get rid of outdated vendor prefixes by parsing CSS files with the Postprocessor named  <a href="https://github.com/ai/autoprefixer"> Autoprefixer </a> , a mind blowing tool based on the popular  <a href="http://caniuse.com/"> caniuse.com </a>  database to determine needed browser support.
As a result, Redaxscript have reported that they have managed to saved around 500 CSS rules in their templates.
<h2>Fresh Modules &amp; Native Form Validation</h2>
New modules, such as Disqus comments have also been introduced. Once you have installed the new Disqus module, all native comments are automatically replaced where they were enabled.
So, you can now enjoy some enhanced social engagement and traffic to your website as well as improving your SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Finally, the Redaxscript form validation system now uses the native “checkValidity()” method, which gives specific error messages to highlight required fields. Third party libraries like jQuery, QUnit and Zepto were also updates to their latest versions.

Redaxscript 2.1.0 Released

<a href="https://www.episerver.com/customer-hub/ektron" target="_blank">Ektron</a> has been enjoying the 2010s so far, as the past few years have been kind to this software company from Nashua, New Hampshire.
Founded in 1998, they got their start a browser-based HTML editor (eWebEditPro), but a few years later abandoned this format for the Microsoft .NET platform. This suited them better and they stayed with it up to today, which is fortunate because in the last few years they began to get some serious recognition.
In 2011, Gartner’s Magic Quadrant listed Ektron and its Web CMS as one of the WCM industry leaders, competing head-to-head with the likes of Adobe, Oracle, HP, and SDL. That same year they landed on EContent Magazine’s Top 100 Companies that Matter Most (no ranks, just a list).

Weebly Rolls Out New Blogging URL Structure

No matter what hemisphere you’re in, one of the main driving forces behind business is competition. 
 When the competition gets neck-and-neck, businesses look for whatever advantage they can find; and that’s exactly what’s happening in Latin America as a result of the strong and steady GDP growth. More and more companies want – and need – that competitive edge, and they’re finding it in ECM (Enterprise Content Management).
Surprisingly, a large amount of Latin American companies are still harboring outdated idea of what exactly ECM is. For them, it is the same as the EDM (Electronic Document Management) systems of the early 80s – nothing more than a digital filing cabinet.

<h2>Out With the Old</h2>
Some of these businesses still even do their internal management on paper. But many of these companies are abandoning these old-fashioned ideas when they see their competition take the lead by implementing a state-of-the-art ECM system.
 Not surprisingly, the leaders of this revolution are the countries with major and more mature markets. Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Colombia – the usual suspects – are experiencing the most rapid integration of ECM, in some cases in the same field (or even surpassing) the economic powerhouses of other continents. 
 On its own, Brazil spent over $68 million on ECM solutions in 2013. By 2018, that amount is expected to nearly triple (estimates suggest $165 million).
It all started with big data analytics, which shone a light on the need to integrate all the information within their companies. In this difficult transition period, we see a trend of companies implementing ECM in some departments but not others, failing to achieve that total, company-wide integration for which ECM works best. But even this partial integration is being abandoned for the convenience of full-scale ECM.
<h2>Coming of Age</h2>
As a result, the companies that successfully use ECM have less paperwork, less redundancies, and more collaborative environments than to easier methods of file-sharing. We see them enjoying the benefits of organization and using their time more efficiently.
In general, Latin America is going through a phase of developing their digitization and IT infrastructure. 
Cloud computing is on the rise, as are implementations of CMS. The popularization of big data analytics, which spurred the movement towards ECM, is further evidence of Latin America’s “coming of age”.  
 These growing global economies are now adopting the techniques and tools that will allow them to compete with the rest of the world – which will no doubt be good for business!

Latin America Begins Looking Towards ECM

The <a href="http://hgt14.onehippo.org/" target="_blank">2014 Hippo Get Together</a> was held on May 16th, in the heart of a sunny, serene Amsterdam.
The CMS Critic team were in attendance, in the form of Mike Johnston and myself.
On the morning of the event, Mike and I made our way to the venue – the trendy Amsterdam Trouw Club – before taking up our front row seats. <h2>Marketing Versus IT &amp; The Future of Hippo</h2>
The event was being presented by Hippo's Community manager, Bas Van Leeuwen. He welcomed everybody formally before handing the stage over to Tobias Jeger – Hippo's Lead Developer – to kick off the first talk.
Tobias wasted no time, jumping right into the Marketing vs IT dilemma which many companies face. A worthy topic to get the audience's juices flowing.

Being on the IT side of the fence, he put forward some of the key flash points between the two opposing sides, highlighting how marketing teams could improve their approach.

Immediately after Tobias Jeger's presentation, marketers everywhere will be pleased that they got their rebuttal through none other that Sonja Wraith, Hippo's head of Marketing.
She offered up some highly interesting statistics regarding the IT vs Marketing clash, and drove home the lack of support marketers generally get from their friends over in IT.

Sonja Wraith ended the quasi-debate on a positive note though. She underlined the need for both marketing and IT teams to work on improving communication and collaboration in order to bridge the gap between the two sides.

Before the Get Together's first Coffee break, Arje Cahn, Hippo CTO, wrapped up the points put forth by Tobias Jeger and Sonja Wraith, and gave a brief insight into how Hippo CMS is working to help bring the two feuding sides together.
He touched on Hippo's aim to introduce A/B Testing features, as well as their brand new user interface, which is currently in the works.

<h2>Hippo Essentials, The New UI &amp; Happy Hippo Customers</h2>
Hippo Product Manager Oscar Scholten also used his time to discuss the upcoming <a href="http://www.onehippo.org/library/essentials/hippo-developer-essentials.html" target="_blank">Hippo Essentials</a>, a frame work offering a range of tools designed to help get Hippo projects up and running faster than ever before.
He mentioned the integration of Hippo certified plugins, video plugins, &amp; other key features like blogs and banners, all of which are needed to start projects quickly and effectively.

Hippo's Get Together also offered some high profile customers a chance to air their experiences with the platform.
Hugo Valk for example, the lead developer of <a href="http://www.ibridge.nl/ibr/home/index.xml" target="_blank">I-Bridge</a>, a Randstad company, presented some interesting insights into how Hippo CMS helped build their online presence better than ever before. He detailed how Hippo had an immediate impact on things like site speed and general SEO.

Speakers from <a href="http://www.elasticpath.com/" target="_blank">ElasticPath</a>,  <a href="http://www.finalist.nl" target="_blank">Finalist</a> and <a href="http://www.oracle.com/index.html" target="_blank">Oracle</a> also delivered presentations.
Anton Bensdorp from Hippo also expanded on Arje Cahn's earlier mention of Hippo's new user interface. He spoke about the need to revamp Hippo's UI to help support new, less experienced user types, relocate functionality &amp; to also accommodate different screen sizes.

He also touched upon a handy new feature of the new UI, which allows publishers to view autosaved content edits,which are individually presented in an accessible list. The ideas is to make edits easier to track, and content easier to publish.
<h2>Open Source, Open Friendliness</h2>
Away from the scheduled talks and presentations, Hippo Get Together 2014 offered up an extremely pleasant atmosphere.
The Club setting was about as unique as they come – but it worked. There was plenty of space to move around and converse, meet new people and hear new Hippo-related stories. Everybody seemed to have a blast.

A number of friendly Hippo representatives were on hand throughout the coffee breaks and lunch times, holding flowers – an indicator that they were there to help out and answer any questions.
Hippo T-Shirt were handed out and quick thrown on by attendees. Many though, were already rocking the Hippo T-Shirt from the 2013 Get Together. That tells you all you need to know about the passionate and loyal Hippo community, which only continues to grow.
All in all, the event was a resounding success. Attendees had fun, heard some juicy insights into the future of Hippo, and got to celebrate the nature of open source software.
To top it all off, attendees were invited to join the Hippo team on a boat trip through Amsterdam to cap off the evening. What more could you ask for?

Looking Back on The Hippo Get Together 2014

SocialEngine have released version 4.8.3 of the non-hosted flavour of their social networking CMS, <a href="https://www.socialengine.com/" target="_blank"> SocialEngine PHP </a> .
Coming out of the box completely unbranded, SocialEngine PHP can be customized endlessly. Also, thanks to the large SocialEngine Community, a hug range of addons and themes are available to apply to your SocialEngine website.
With SocialEngine PHP 4.8.3, HTML5 video compatibility has been introduced, alongside a number of bug fixes.

<h2>Uploading HTML5 Videos on SocialEngine</h2>
HTML5 video support is obviously the big news here, and I'm sure many SocialEngine users will be excited at the prospect. However, there are some steps you'll need to take before you're up and running.
To be able to upload HTML5 video, your SocialEngine FFMPEG must be compiled with h264 encoder support. Also, HTML5 Support must be enabled in your SocialEngine PHP video settings.
