The Top 10 AI Tools for Small Business: From Automation to a Coordinated Team of AI Agents

matt-garrepy

It’s time to build your website, and one of the first things you need to decide is also one of the most important.  Do you choose one of the popular Open-Source systems (like WordPress or Joomla) and get your hands dirty, or do you use a Proprietary system and pay someone else to get their hands dirty for you?
<h3>But perhaps the more important question is… What’s the difference!?</h3>
A lot of people think the difference is “Free vs. Pay,” but it’s not that simple.  The technical definition is that Open-Source systems make their source code available to the user, while Proprietary systems don’t.  That means that developers using an Open-Source CMS can modify and update their sites themselves, while users of Proprietary systems leave it to the company that maintains the system.
<h3>Open-Source CMS</h3>
The most popular choice, but don’t let that sway your decision – they’re popular because they’re often free.  However, their popularity isn’t negligible; more users, combined with the availability of the code, means that any programmer can add to it, which means a Open-Source CMS will generally have a lot of extensions and plug-ins to choose from.  This is pretty essential if you’re looking for something customizable, but keep in mind, the more custom add-ons you want to buy, the less “free” it becomes.  If you’re serious about how your site looks, you should shake the idea that an Open-Source CMS is not going to cost anything.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/bigstock-open-source-33808928400x0.jpg" />
<h3>Proprietary CMS</h3>
Don’t really care how your website is built as long as it works?  Proprietary systems “lease out” existing templates for a fee so you don’t have to stress about the technical aspects of your site.  However, that also means you can’t customize it how you want.  But are Proprietary systems worth the cost compared to the free alternatives?  That depends on which one you use. A good Proprietary system functions smoothly and will update often.  A bad one won’t.
So which CMS is better?  Again, it’s not that simple.   The first thing you need to know is what you want.  Once you’ve figured that out, it’s just a matter of seeing which system can give it to you.
<h3>When to Use Open-Source: </h3>
<ul>
<li>You are a tiny business with an even tinier budget.  In this case, you just can’t beat “free.” </li>
<li>You are not afraid of code and feel comfortable making the upgrades you want by yourself.  Techies love Open-Source systems the same way mechanics love scrap-yards. </li>
<li>You may need to move your website to another platform later on.  Exporting data is rarely a problem for Open-Source. </li>
</ul>
<h3>When to Use Proprietary:</h3>
<ul>
<li>You don’t have a lot of time to spend building your site. If your time is constrained but your budget is not, this is the choice for you. </li>
<li>Your industry requires a very specific type of site that you can’t build yourself.  Proprietary systems offer that “right-out-of-the-box” functionality. </li>
<li>You don’t want to worry about bugs, updates, security, or hosting.  Proprietary works best for technology ostriches. </li>
</ul>
<h3>The Bottom Line</h3>
If you want to do it yourself, use an Open-Source system.
If you want someone else to do it for you, use a Proprietary system.

Open-Source vs. Proprietary: It’s Not Always About the Money

With the recent <a href="/ubuntu-16-10-now-available-to-download/">release of Ubuntu 16.10</a>, we thought we'd delve into the latest release of this popular Linux distribution and share with your our Ubuntu 16.10 Review. This review is intended for the desktop user.If you hop distros as much as I do (see <a href="/the-trials-and-tribulations-of-a-distro-hopper/">Trials and Tribulations of a Distro Hopper</a>) then you're probably pretty excited to mess with this release. The installation process for Ubuntu hasn't changed a wink. As per usual, it's one of the fastest and easiest installs out there and for my hardware, worked without issue. Installation of third party drivers is quick and easy as per usual. Some people prefer to use the GUI to install drivers but I find the console still to be far more efficient for most tasks so I install all of my third party drivers with one line.<code>sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall</code><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/virtualbox_ubuntu_16_10_review_14_10_2016_11_28_491332x0-is.png" alt="ubuntu 16.10 review" />For those who want to use the GUI, however, just launch the app Software &amp; Updates and click the Additional Drivers tab or, alternatively, use the shortcut and launch the Additional Drivers link which brings you to the same place. Either method is fine.<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/virtualbox_ubuntu_16_10_review_14_10_2016_11_33_361332x0-is.png" alt="ubuntu 16.10 review" />Ubuntu 16.10 doesn't visually look much different than previous releases but that doesn't come as much of a surprise. While Canonical is working on a new release of the Unity 8 desktop environment, the existing Unity interface hasn't changed much over the years and don't expect much difference here.<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/virtualbox_ubuntu_16_10_review_14_10_2016_11_05_371332x0-is.png" alt="ubuntu 16.10 review" />On that same note, this release includes a preview session of Unity 8 and boy, let me tell you how much I hope this changes because it is simply awful looking. Yes, I am aware that this is not even remotely close to being completed but at first glance, it's frighteningly bad in my opinion.To access the Unity 8 preview, simply log out of the desktop and choose it during the login by selecting the Ubuntu icon (shown below):<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/virtualbox_ubuntu_16_10_review_14_10_2016_11_44_331332x0-is.png" alt="ubuntu 16.10 review" />This will bring up the two options (and of course, should you install any other desktop environments or window managers, those would show here a well):<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/virtualbox_ubuntu_16_10_review_14_10_2016_11_53_111332x0-is.png" alt="ubuntu 16.10 review" />Select Unity 8 and log in.I'd show you what Unity 8 looks like but interestingly enough, during this review, when I went to login, it went to a black screen than kicked me back to this login screen again so I was unable to access the Unity 8 session. This only happened on this one Virtualbox install, however, as I was able to access it fine on my desktop. Perhaps a hardware issue, I'm not sure. Since it won't work on my install, here's a video showing the environment you SHOULD see: A large portion of the changes to Ubuntu 16.10 changes pertain to the server / cloud end of things, which is excellent since Ubuntu is a very popular choice in both instances. To find out about those changes, check the <a target="_blank" href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/YakketyYak/ReleaseNotes#New_features_in_16.10">release notes</a>.From a desktop perspective, the main changes are:LibreOffice has been updated to <a target="_blank" href="https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/5.2">5.2</a>. Ubuntu now uses the <a target="_blank" href="https://caolanm.blogspot.com/2016/02/native-gtk3-menubar-in-libreoffice.html">GTK3</a> version by default.Update Manager now shows changelog entries for PPAs too (<a target="_blank" href="https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/253119">253119</a>).Apps provided by GNOME have been updated to at least 3.20. Many apps have been updated to 3.22 also.The Nautilus file browser has been <a target="_blank" href="https://csorianognome.wordpress.com/2015/09/04/nautilus-3-18-comunicating-changes/">updated</a> to <a target="_blank" href="https://csorianognome.wordpress.com/2016/02/08/nautilus-3-20-and-looking-forward/">3.20</a>.systemd is now used for <a target="_blank" href="https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2016-July/039465.html">user sessions</a>. System sessions had already been provided by systemd in previous Ubuntu releases.LibreOffice 5.2, during my testing, ran almost without a hitch and I didn't experience and glitches or issues of any kind initially. It was snappy, loaded quickly and was fully functional.<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/virtualbox_ubuntu_16_10_review_14_10_2016_11_15_291332x0-is.png" alt="ubuntu 16.10 review" />However, when exporting and attempting to open a CSV file which a few lines in it.. the first time it opened perfectly and the second time it took almost 1 minute and my whole system slowed to a crawl. I'm not sure what happened here but I can't seem to get it to recur. If anyone else experiences issues like this, let me know.BTW, In case I forgot to mention it, I have fully updated the system and am using the default sources with no PPAs installed to make this review as fair as possible and so that I do not affect the installation with third party sources.Nautilus 3.20 includes a number of fixes and improvements which you can <a target="_blank" href="https://csorianognome.wordpress.com/2016/02/08/nautilus-3-20-and-looking-forward/">read about here</a>. One small and handy update is the display of free space when selecting Other Locations within Nautilus. Overall, I found it much quicker than before, especially with regards to searches.<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/virtualbox_ubuntu_16_10_review_14_10_2016_12_14_511332x0-is.png" alt="ubuntu 16.10 review" />Something that plagued me quite a bit during the writing of this Ubuntu 16.10 review was the number of “System Problem Detected” pop-ups I kept getting. This happened on multiple machines. I experienced ones related to Webkit and numerous related to Compiz and the system compositor:<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/virtualbox_ubuntu_16_10_review_14_10_2016_12_21_521332x0-is.png" alt="ubuntu 16.10 review" />For the purposes of this review, I won't be running Ubuntu 16.10 as my desktop of choice anyway so it's not going to affect me but for those of you out there considering using it for your desktop of choice, you may wish to wait a month or so for some of these to potentially get resolved before installing. Of course, I don't know all of the details on when or whether these will occur for everyone and we all know experiences can vary greatly so proceed at your own risk.You can also disable the bug reporting interface so you don't get these notices but the more people reporting bugs the better. To disable the bug reporting pop-ups, open a terminal window and type:<code>sudo nano /etc/default/apport</code>This will open a file editor. Use the arrow keys to navigate and change enabled from 1 to 0. The press CTRL-X to save and Y to accept the changes. Reboot and they should be disabled.If you are an active PPA user and rely on third party repositories, it's best to wait a month or so before you proceed with installing this release. It often takes a bit for third party developers to get caught up and release packages for new versions so hold off a bit before proceeding.Overall, I'd say this felt like a typical Ubuntu release, at least from a desktop perspective. The inclusion of the 4.8 Linux kernel is probably one of the biggest changes, which Linux.com covered quite well in their article here: <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linux.com/news/new-linux-kernel-48-plus-kernel-killing-bug">https://www.linux.com/news/new-linux-kernel-48-plus-kernel-killing-bug</a>What have your experiences been with this release? Have you encountered any issues? Let us know in the comments below. Also, I'd love to hear from someone in a SysAdmin role about the server side changes. If someone is interested in providing their thoughts, I'd be happy to append them to this review.

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.silverstripe.org/">Silverstripe</a>, the open source CMS, has rolled out the Beta for their latest release, SilverStripe 3.2.<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/silverstripe_800_transparent.png" />With almost 100% backwards compatibility, improved documentation, a new interface and a new ORM, SilverStripe users have a lot to be excited about.Here's a more detailed look at what SilverStripe 3.2 has in store.<h2>New Interface &amp; ORM</h2>First of all, SilverStripe have, “spent a great deal of time” on enhancing their user interface, and the user experience as a result.The publish, unpublish and delete actions have been overhauled, while many interface elements have been resized. Some elements are also now collapsible, giving users more space to work with if they wish.<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/resizedimage800412-cms-32-collapse709x0-is.png" />Perhaps SilverStripe 3.2's most notable feature though, is the new ORM. Concerning this enhancement, SilverStripe have said the following:<blockquote>“We’re proud of the steps we’ve taken towards modularity and clean code. As a result, we’ve split the old connector classes into smaller, more focused roles. You can still use your favourite database, and extending the ORM will be easier for you and maintaining it will be easier for us.By default all SQL queries are parameterised as standard, meaning the threat of potential SQL injection vulnerabilities are all but eliminated.”</blockquote>Also, thanks to the adoption of <a target="_blank" href="http://semver.org/">Semantic Versioning</a>, SilverStripe 3.2 will be backwards compatible. Meaning that, existing code works and will continue to work in any 3.x version going forward.To find out more about SilverStripe 3.2 Beta, head over to the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.silverstripe.org/blog/silverstripe-3-2-beta-now-available/">SilverStripe blog</a>.Also, you can explore more of <a href="/products/silverstripe">SilverStripe via our CMS Directory.</a>

Users of the popular platform Wix will be pleased to know that improvements to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and connections to third-party tools and networks has been introduced through advanced meta-tagging.<a target="_blank" href="http://www.wix.com/">Wix</a> is a user friendly website builder which boasts over 46 million users across 190 countries.Meta-tags allow your Wix website to Header code supported services include  <a target="_blank" href="https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35659">Google Webmaster tools</a>,  <a target="_blank" href="http://www.bing.com/webmaster/help/how-to-verify-ownership-of-your-site-afcfefc6">Bing Webmaster Tools</a>,  <a target="_blank" href="https://dev.twitter.com/docs/cards">Twitter Cards</a>,  <a target="_blank" href="https://en.help.pinterest.com/entries/22488487-Verify-with-HTML-meta-tags">Pinterest Verification</a>,  <a target="_blank" href="http://www.alexa.com/siteowners/claim">Alexa site owner claim</a>, and many more.Wix have put together a straightforward video to guide you through the process of adding these header codes to your Wix website: <h2>What are Meta-Tags &amp; What Can They Do For Me?</h2>If you don't know what meta-tags are for, it might be worth your while to find out, simply because of the benefits they can bring.As Wix recently <a target="_blank" href="http://www.wix.com/blog/2014/05/meta-tags/">detailed in their advanced meta-tag announcement</a>, there are two types of meta-tags – Ownership Verification and Rich Media Experiences. Let's take a brief look at what both of these terms mean.<h3>Ownership Verification Meta-tags</h3>Search engines like Google and Bing along with other services offer added benefit to website owner who can prove they own certain website. One way you can do this, is using meta-tags.For example, verifying your website with Google via meta-tags – as shown in the intstructional video above – gives you access to extremely important metrics: your site’s traffic sources, the keywords which drove traffic to your site, how your site ranks for different keywords, and statistics about how Google indexes your site.Similarly, adding a Bing site verification meta-tag to your website header means that Bing will be able to index your website, giving a healthy SEO boost.<h3>Rich Media Experience Meta-tags</h3>Meta-tags don't just expose you to hidden benefits and administrative tools. They can also greatly increase search engine optimization and broader marketing efforts in a more direct way.One example which you might have heard of, is the Google Authorship. Adding a Google authorship meta-tag changes the way your site will appear in Google's search results page. Adding this tag enhances the way Google displays your content: your name, photo and author byline will prominently appear next to relevant search results.<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/meta-tags31.jpg" alt="Wix Google Authorship" /> To learn more about the different types of supported Wix meta-tags, and how to use them, visit the Wix Learning Center. Following on from the <a href="/dotcms-enterprise-cloud-released/" target="_blank">recent release of dotCMS Enterprise Cloud</a>, dotCMS has unveiled version 3.3 of their platform.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/dotcms-250h-1.jpg" />
dotCMS is a platform with a track record in the enterprise market, and can be utilized either on-premise or via the cloud. It was also the winner of the <a href="/2014-critics-choice-award-winner-best-cloud-cms-for-smb/" target="_blank">2014 Critics' Choice Award for Best Cloud CMS for SMB</a>.
Here's what's new with dotCMS 3.3.
<h2>Cold Hard Cache</h2>
With 3.3, dotCMS has seriously revamped the way it handles caching.
First and foremost, the new advanced caching schemes with external cache are designed for use in high availability and low latency situations.
Here's a breakdown of the new features, which aim to keep systems running better, faster and with fewer downtimes.
<ul>
<li>Supports four caching providers: Guava, H2 (disk), Timed Memory, Redis (external cache service)</li>
<li>Supports multi region caching</li>
<li>Ability to add/define your own cache providers via plugin</li>
<li>Configurable cache chains</li>
<li>View cache region settings by name in dotCMS: System -&gt; Maintenance and press the Refresh Stats button</li>
<li>Note that configuration of cache chains and providers are available only in dotCMS Enterprise licensed editions. DotCMS Community editions use the default GuavaCache provider</li>
</ul>
dotCSMS Enterprise customers will find that, with dotCMS 3.3, a Redis Cache Provider is now included out of the box. <a href="http://redis.io/">Redis</a> allows offloading cache to networked servers or a cluster of servers.
The benefits of this approach include:
<ul>
<li>Redis caching servers can be scaled independently and at runtime in order to add or remove cache capacity and can improve performance</li>
<li>External caching with Redis removes the dotCMS cache from the Java heap, which lowers the dotCMS memory requirement and may significantly speed up Java GC</li>
<li>Cache “puts” and “removes” are network-wide</li>
<li>There is no external syncing mechanisms that can fail</li>
<li>dotCMS servers can be restarted with their caches fully loaded which is really cool, and speeds restarts which is most welcome in most situations.</li>
<li>Supports master/slave environments – read from one, write to another</li>
</ul>
<h2>Push Publishing</h2>
dotCMS 3.3 also brings about added stability to the platform's push publishing feature, thanks to a range of bug and use-case fixes.
The integrity checker has also been enhanced and the dotCMS team has added the ability to directly push languages and add languages to bundles.
So all in all, it's an update that's highly focused on improving the caching capbilities of dotCMS, which enterprise customers will be happy to hear about.
You can <a href="http://dotcms.com/blog/post/snapshot-dotcms-3-3" target="_blank">read the full story on the dotCMS blog</a>, or you can download dotCMS 3.3, <a href="http://dotcms.com/download/" target="_blank">click here</a>.

dotCMS 3.3 Arrives With Caching Improvements

Today’s fast paced world results in code aging faster and faster. That in turn results in security holes in everything from our handheld mobile devices all the way to our webservers.
These security holes are not overlooked by hackers and their large cadre of tools used to look for weak websites.
As a small or medium business owner, you are surely concerned about your website traffic, ease of use and your customer’s experience.
However keeping up with all the security vulnerabilities that could hit your website is a full time job.
SalvusAlerting.com answers that problem with its revolutionary new service designed to send you near real time alerts for software vulnerabilities that could affect you.
The subscription service, starting at only $15.97 per month, is built on a powerful engine that ingests vulnerability updates and reports from hundreds of known sources.
The engine reviews each and automatically categorizes them by type; the information is formatted and then sent on to the subscriber as an ‘alert’:
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/image-for-cmscritic-article-580x302.png" />
Each alert is categorized by Severity, Critical, High, Low and Informational, giving the subscriber an immediate visual clue as to the response priority.
The alert has three sections, Executive Summary, Technical Details and Recommendations for remedy.
Alerts are sent directly to your eMail account and starting in November 2010, SalvusAlerting.com will offer Direct Twitter messages and Text messages.
“Well I am thoroughly impressed with SalvusAlerting. I've been only a subscriber for about one month and I have found the information invaluable for not only myself but also my clients. – Mike Carson – JoomlaShowRoom.com”

Editors on these platforms, e.g. Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets, can be viewed and accessed within the Nuxeo environment, providing free and open collaboration without having to copy files and store them locally.
With this release, Nuxeo customers can not only access the standard editors on these platforms but also the wealth of third party editors that have been created. Notably, two or more users can collaborate on a given file – for example, a legal contract or a press release being readied for distribution – within the Nuxeo environment or outside of it while maintaining the approval workflow and publishing capabilities.
<h2>Elasticsearch Query API with Automatic, Dynamic Security Filtering</h2>
Developers can now use a new Elasticsearch API to query the Nuxeo repository.
This new feature also allows developers to build custom Elasticsearch frontend applications, with no need to worry about user authentication or permissioning, which are now automatically enforced by the Nuxeo Platform.
Furthermore, Nuxeo developers are now able to use the native Elasticsearch Query DSL, with the Elasticsearch client of their choice (JavaScript, Python, etc.), to build search functionality in the Web UI of the Nuxeo Platform. From here on out, Nuxeo will dynamically apply permission filters to end user search queries, ensuring that only those objects that the user has access to are presented in search results.
<h2>Branch Management and Collaborative Configuration with Nuxeo Studio</h2>
Nuxeo users can create and manage branches of their Nuxeo Studio Projects.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/sshot-19.png" />
This allows developers to collaborate while building applications by configuration. Development time can be accelerated and Nuxeo developers can easily use Nuxeo Studio in their development workflow and integration tools.
<h2>Cloud Media Publishing</h2>
Nuxeo customers now have an easy way to push digital media, managed by the Nuxeo Platform, to video publishing platforms. The 7.3 release introduces the ability to publish videos directly to YouTube and Wistia out of the box with the ability to easily add other providers.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/sshot-18633x0-is.png" />Once the video is published, users can retrieve URLs, embed an HTML snippet to publish on an external website, and view analytics directly from the video platform inside of Nuxeo.
<h2>Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM)</h2>
Last but not least, is the introduction of HSM.
Nuxeo developers can now implement a HSM policy that complies with business rules while also improving application performance and storage cost efficiencies.
The platform's new File Storage Dispatcher empowers developers to specify which BLOBs are to be stored in Amazon Simple Storage Services (S3), locally, or on a different on-premises storage system. This can be determined based on multiple criteria, including document metadata, file path, file type, or as specified within written code.
Nuxeo's CEO, Eric Barroca, made the following comments upon the release of version 7.3:
<blockquote>“Even though EFSS revolutionized the way people work together, adding this benefit to your business processes has required a copy and paste approach or, at best, upload them to your ECM. The business part, the information part hasn’t reacted. We are changing that.
With Nuxeo Live Connect, it’s time to revolutionize the way organizations use content to benefit their business.”</blockquote>

<a href="http://koken.me/" target="_blank">Koken</a>, the photography CMS, is on the brink of being acquired ny <a href="http://netobjects.com/" target="_blank">NetObjects</a>, a US based software vendor.
We <a href="/koken-the-photography-cms-goes-up-for-sale-as-co-founders-announce-they-want-out/" target="_blank">previously reported that Koken's Co-Founders were looking for buyers</a>, stating that it was, “time for a new team to take over.”
<a href="http://koken.me/" target="_blank"><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/h4qgi0zfisx9k6wv1i4a_400x400365x0-is.png" /></a>
That new team, seems to be over at NetObjects. The company offers its own website builder, and will certainly be boosted by this acquisition in more ways than one, considering Koken's existing potential and popularity.
<h2>What Koken Users Can Expect</h2>
NetObjects has been developing, marketing and distributing web design software since 1995, so Koken should be in very safe hands.
Existing Koken users can continue to use Koken to publish web sites and upload photography. New users can also go about setting up free Koken instances, just like they always could.
So in other words, there's not much to adjust to for the average Koken user.
NetObjects President and CEO, Steve Raubenstine, had this to say following the announcement:
<blockquote>
“We are proud to add this exceptional product to our award-winning portfolio of web design products. The Koken CMS meets every need for managing and sharing our ever growing libraries of digital images — whether run from a home based server or a shared hosting account — the user is in complete control of their images.
For the past few years I've used Koken to manage my own personal photography website. We at NetObjects are excited to continue development of this special application and introduce it to an even larger global audience.”
</blockquote>
The deal is scheduled to be completed on September 30th 2015.

Koken to Be Acquired by NetObjects

<a href="http://www.dnnsoftware.com/Solutions/Evoq-Social" target="_blank">Evoq Social 2.0</a> has arrived. It comes bearing an array of features designed to empower online community managers, primarily through enhanced community monitoring tools.
<a href="http://www.dnnsoftware.com/" target="_blank">DNN Software</a> provides a suite of solutions that make designing, building and managing feature-rich sites and communities fast, easy and cost-effective.
The DNN Platform CMS – which powers Evoq Content – is the foundation for over 800,000 websites around the world.
Evoq Social is DNN's newest solution, which enables businesses to create immersive and interactive online communities.
Now, let's take a look at what version 2.0 of DNN Evoq Social brings to the table.
<h2>Powerfully Enhanced Community Management</h2>
Evoq Social's new dashboard offers up some powerful community monitoring and analytical tools.
For example, graphs reporting on things like Adoption &amp; Participation, along with a breakdown of the areas where your members are most engaged are displayed. The dashboard also lets you monitor popular trend tags and content, or get basic (but essential) stats like how much time is spent on the site.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/cme-dashboardoverview700x0.png" alt="DNN Evoq Social 2.0" />
Interestingly, the new dashboard also lets you quickly see which members of your community are the top contributors, influencers, and reputation leaders.
You can delve far deeper into these stats to get filtered details about each module, or change the comparison period.
“Community Health Cards” are specific to the module being viewed, identifying several potential problem areas within each module. This will naturally help community managers take a proactive rather than reactive approach to community management.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/cme-communityhealth700x0.png" alt="DNN Evoq Social 2.0" />
Areas of the community in question that are in bad shape are easily identified with red warning icons and listed first in the list. Other areas of the community which are doing well can be identified with a green icon and are listed last in the list.
<h2>User Management &amp; Tasks</h2>
Managing users in an online community is typically quite different from managing users in a CMS – but is no less important. After all, different user roles are necessary in order to keep communities running smoothly.
For example, as a community manager, you may need to promote a normal user to moderator status – but at the same time, you may wish to restrict some of their capabilities. Evoq Social 2.0 gives you that power.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/cme-usermanager700x0.png" alt="DNN Evoq Social 2.0" />
You may also need to see details about the user's engagement with the community. For example, their most recent site activities, what their engagement/influence scores are, and so forth. Once again, Evoq Social now makes that happen with ease.
Furthermore, “Tasks” have been introduced to notify community managers of things like content pending moderator approval or reported content that hasn’t been reviewed yet.
This persists throughout all views of the dashboard and helps community managers not only address the notifications from within the dashboard but also helps identify bottlenecks within the community.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/cme-tasks2.png" alt="DNN Evoq Social 2.0" />
The Tasks section also groups similar notifications, such as two users reporting the same piece of content, in order to make addressing the potential issue easier by handling all grouped notifications with a single click.
These grouped notifications can be expanded and paged through if necessary, so you can see who reported it, when they reported it, and why.
<h2>Mobile-optimization &amp; Much More</h2>
All of these newly introduced features can be made use of via a tailored mobile device experience. Community managers can any mobile device – wherever they are – to keep their community on track.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/dnn-evoq-social-mobile-view.png" alt="DNN Evoq Social 2.0" />
Several sections of the dashboard make use of gestures and are displayed in different formats when compared to desktop views. For example, line charts become donut charts, grids have fewer columns, and so forth.
Additionally, here are some miscellaneous improvements introduced by Evoq Social 2.0:
<ul>
<li>Enabled friendly URL's for the six main content-oriented modules. The friendly URL's help with SEO and also avoids duplicate page titles.</li>
<li>Surfaced comment moderation in additional areas: Discussions, Events and Ideas.</li>
<li>Added “Upcoming Events” view in Social Events and made it the default view. It shows only events currently in progress or scheduled in the future.</li>
</ul>
Overall, version 2.0 of Evoq Social gives online community managers a boost in analytical firepower.
From anywhere and on any device, they can understand top performing areas, monitor participation in popular trending topics, and moderate discussions. Data-driven decisions can also be made, helping to keep engagement of membership at its peak performance.

Evoq Social 2.0: a Look at What's New With DNN Software's Community Platform

More and more consumers are saying goodbye to the offline retail experience, opting to do the majority of their shopping online.
While this shift may not surprise most tech-savvy business owners, the amount of money ($80 billion) that changed hands in eCommerce transactions in 2015's first quarter alone, is a real eye-opener.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/ecommerce-mas_1602x0-is.jpg" /> While convenience has clearly been one of the major contributing factors in the rise of eCommerce, the biggest catalyst behind its overall success has been the direct result of a feature that isn’t often associated with eCommerce: personalization.
You heard that right – online consumers are able to enjoy a personalized shopping experience on a level that not even a brick and mortar retail store can offer.
At this point, you might be asking yourself exactly how a business could possibly make an online shopping experience more personalized for a consumer than a trip to the local retail location. After all, eCommerce was, at one point, a basic storefront used by businesses to sell their products directly to a visiting consumer. With eCommerce Marketing Automation Systems, however, that has changed in dramatic fashion.
By enabling businesses to make personalized product recommendations based on past purchases, as well as provide dynamic content based on previous product searches, eCommerce Marketing Automation Systems can help consumers to find needs they never knew existed, and then call upon them to act on those needs.
With the soaring growth of eCommerce, there are many different eCommerce Marketing Automation Systems available on the market. That being said, there are 5 eCommerce MAS in particular that offer everything that a business could need to transform their online storefront into a personalized online boutique that not only attracts customers, but also retains them as well.
<h2>1. Remarkety</h2>
Remarkety is an email marketing platform – but it’s much more than just another autoresponder.
Rather than having to craft broad messages that don’t really target any of your customers in particular, Remarkety allows you to craft newsletters and automated emails that are sent to specific customers based on their buying habits.
It’s hard to get information more targeted than that. You can tailor your message to your customers based on what they’ve actually bought – not on more nebulous characteristics like demographic information.
The possibilities here are almost limitless. You can instantly email them upsells and cross sells based on the items they’ve already purchased, follow up on abandoned cart items, and give them truly personalized recommendations based on what they’ve already proven to be interested in.
The data that you’ll get from tracking this information is truly priceless. You can see how much a customer is likely to spend in total if they buy a certain items, which of your products has the highest lifetime customer value, and more.
The end result is a more engaged customer base that can trust your brand to give them recommendations they can actually use – because Remarkety has given you information that you can actually rely on.
<a href="http://www.remarkety.com/" target="_blank">Find out more about Remarkety</a>.
<h2>Silverpop</h2>
Silverpop is conceptually similar to Remarkety, except that instead of personalizing email messages, Silverpop allows you to personalize every page that your customers see. This feature, called “dynamic content,” means that you don’t have to guess what to show your customers when they visit your site. Instead, what they are items that have been specifically chosen for them.
This is as close as you can come to having an experienced salesperson guiding your customers every step of the way. The software can reveal products to your customers that they’re likely to be interested in, based on past behavior.
You can use Silverpop on your email campaigns as well. Each purchase can trigger a specific set of emails, designed to keep your customers engaged – and buying. One of Silverpop’s biggest selling points, however, is the breadth of the data it gives you. You can instantly analyze the ROI of a campaign, measure brand interaction, and see how each of your campaigns is trending in real time. This information could make – or save – you a bundle.

<h2>Klaviyo</h2>
Klaviyo is an email platform that integrates more fully with your ecommerce site than your typical autoresponder.
If that sounds complicated, don’t worry – many of Klaviyo’s are designed to have one-click integration. This means that you can get much of the system up and running with a simple click of the mouse – no advanced degrees required.
The ultimate goal of Klaviyo is to give you the ability to make more money from sending less emails. To do this, it gives your customers highly personalized emails that feel more like a one-on-one conversation, as opposed to a mass blast to the entirety of your list.
Using Klaviyo gives you an unprecedented look at your audience’s behavior. You can see exactly what they’re responding to – and what messages are falling flat. When you combine this information with beautiful, highly personalized messaging, it adds a powerful weapon to your marketing arsenal.
<a href="http://www.klaviyo.com/features" target="_blank">Find out more about Klaviyo</a>.
<h2>Windsor Circle</h2>
Windsor Circle is an MAS that focuses primarily on customer retention. Of course, it also gives you plenty of opportunities to attract new customers – primarily by tracking unknown users and treating them like customers you just don’t know that much about yet.
By giving you as much information as possible about your customer base, you can tailor your strategy to give them as positive an experience as you can – and keep them coming back. This includes features like cart abandonment messages, personalized emails, and renewal reminders.
Another great aspect of how they use the information they collect is that they can make incredible predictions about future customer performance. They can predict which of your customers are most likely to churn, determine which customers are likely to represent the most value for your company, and much more. Once you know which customers are on the shakiest ground, versus those who are committed for the long haul, you decide where and how to focus your marketing efforts.
This allows you to allocate resources where they’re most likely to have the highest ROI – and that can really add up over time.
<a href="http://www.windsorcircle.com/" target="_blank">Find out more about Windsor Circle</a>.
<h2>VibeTrace</h2>
VibeTrace offers many of the same features of the above MAS’s, but focuses more on customer segmentation, so that you can be sure you’re sending the right message to the right people.
You can personalize email campaigns, product displays, and even well-timed discounts and coupons. Similarly, you can follow up with cart abandonment emails, recommendations based on past purchases, and messages designed to help them get the most out of their product experience.
Once you have enough information to properly segment your customer base – segregating loyal customers versus those likely to churn, repeat visitors versus first-timers, etc. – you can get a lot more bang for your marketing buck. You won’t have to worry about wasting money by putting the wrong offer in front of your customers, because more segmentation gives you the ability to be hyper-targeted.
<a href="http://vibetrace.com/ecommerce-marketing-automation" target="_blank">Find out more about VibeTrace</a>.
<h2>Finding the Right eCommerce MAS for You</h2>
Although there are other <a href="/top-5-ecommerce-platforms-for-your-website/" target="_blank">major MAS that provide eCommerce marketing functionality</a>, using a MAS that is designed specifically for eCommerce may be the most ideal solution for online merchants.
After all, a dedicated eCommerce MAS can ensure that the online merchant has the ability to give each customer gets the personalized shopping experience they want, without forcing the merchant to pay for additional tools that they probably won’t use.
Ultimately, the more you can zero in on your customers and their behavior, the more you’ll see your marketing results improve. After all, the aim of marketing is to have a one-on-one conversation with your ideal customer – and with the right MAS, you can do just that.
