Well, it's been another action-packed month in the CMS and DXP worlds, and there's barely time to process the news.
Just as we finished breaking down <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/key-takeaways-from-gartners-2021-magic-quadrant-for-digital-experience-platforms/">Gartner's 2021 Magic Quadrant for Digital Experience Platforms</a>, the 2021 Forrester Wave for Agile Content Management Systems was released. There's a lot to unpack, but the main question is: how do you make sense of both the Gartner and Forrester reports when evaluating a solution? There are similarities and differences to be sure, but the comparisons reveal some bigger things happening across the experience management landscape. We'll have a detailed analysis next week.
<h3>Automattic's WordPress VIP Acquires Parse.ly</h3>

WordPress VIP (<a href="https://wpvip.com/">WPVIP</a>), Automattic’s WordPress enterprise content management platform, has announced the acquisition of <a href="https://www.parse.ly/">Parse.ly</a> – a real-time content analytics platform designed for content management and e-commerce platforms. The goal is to provide enterprises with content analytics that integrate seamlessly across WPVIP’s commerce and content offerings.
Parse.ly is the first large enterprise software acquisition for Automattic, the parent company of WordPress, Tumblr, and other tech platforms that enable people to publish content to the open web.
Previously, Salesforce made a <a href="https://ma.tt/2019/09/series-d/">$300 million investment</a> in <a href="https://automattic.com/">Automattic</a>. In a post about the transaction, Matt Mullenweg – the founder and CEO of Automattic – said that Salesforce "helped open his eyes to the potential there is in the enterprise market for WordPress VIP."
While the Parse.ly purchase represents a larger enterprise strategy, Automattic is no stranger to acquisitions. One of their most notable, <a href="https://woocommerce.com/posts/woothemes-joins-automattic/">WooCommerce</a>, provided a critical pathway to e-commerce, and had become a well-known brand in the space. On the other side of the stack, they acquired the <a href="https://angel.co/today/stories/automattic-acquires-wordpress-plugin-zbs-crm-4292">ZBS CRM</a>, a customer relationship management plugin for WordPress that enables online retailers using WordPress and WooCommerce to keep track of their customers.
Through Parse.ly, Automattic is elevating the value of enterprise analytics for its customers. Parse.ly uses predictive analytics for content recommendations, driving engagement with personalized experiences for every visitor. It also provides both real-time and historical data.
“We’ve always had a deep admiration for WPVIP as the gold standard for enterprise content teams, and we’re thrilled to join together,” <a href="https://blog.parse.ly/post/9995/wpvip-acquisition/">said Sachin Kamdar</a>, the CEO of Parse.ly. “From the culture and people, to the product, market, and vision, we’re in lockstep to create more value for our customers. This powerful combination of content and intelligence will push the industry forward at an accelerated pace.”
With Parse.ly, WPVIP customers will get much more than basic analytics like page visits and views. Commerce brands will be able to see which content converts visitors into buyers and deliver content recommendations for top-performing products.
<h3>Oracle Announces Cloud Customer Experience Updates</h3>
Oracle <a href="https://www.oracle.com/news/announcement/oracle-cloud-cx-updates-021021.html">announced</a> that it's rolling out updates to its Cloud Customer Experience (CX) platform. The latest updates to the CX suite adds enhancements and capabilities to Oracle Sales, Oracle Service, and Oracle Marketing.
“Customers aren’t afraid to walk away after a single bad experience, and that reality means organizations have to empower their sales, marketing, and customer service teams with the data they need to make every customer interaction matter,” said Rob Tarkoff, executive vice president and general manager, Oracle Customer Experience.
The latest updates within Oracle Customer Experience (CX) include new B2B selling, service, and marketing capabilities.

<li>Communications Industry: A new Buy application in Digital Experience for Communications helps service providers give customers more relevant offers to increase conversion rates. This includes making it easier for customers to buy services via their preferred channels.</li>
<li>Actionable User Interface: Data-driven recommendations help sellers save time and focus their efforts on the strongest opportunities.</li>
<li>Smart Lists: Help guide sellers on what action to take next by automatically displaying relevant information based on past behavior.</li>
<li>Infolets: Enable sellers to quickly accept leads, qualify prospects, rank deals, and create tasks from the home page of their CRM system.</li>
<li>Advanced Search Capabilities: Help sellers quickly and easily locate information related to a sales opportunity, territory, account, and quotes. In addition, Favorites allows users to mark records to save for later.</li>

<h3>Twilio Segment Releases 2021 CDP Report: A Look at How Pandemic-Driven Digital Acceleration Ushered the Industry into a New Era</h3>

eCommerce solutions are becoming more and more necessary as companies transition from standard store fronts to a new digital presence. This year, we have two categories for eCommerce solutions, SMB and Enterprise.
This year, the contenders for Best eCommerce Solution for SMB were Prestashop, Shopify and ASPxCommerce. All three solutions are great ones and any small or medium business that chooses to go with these contenders would end up with a great implementation of their online presence.

<a href="https://www.weebly.com/">Weebly</a>, which is without a doubt one of the most popular website builders out there, have made some welcome changes to their Site Creator interface. The changes, which are rather dramatic visually, are definitely better than what they previously had in place and we're excited to share with you those changes today.

As you can see, content elements are no longer on the top of the page but are now on the left hand side. While this looks significantly different, the elements still function in the exact same way: you drag them to your site in order to add text, pictures, and other content.
<h2>Renamed Elements</h2>
Some of the elements have also been renamed. For example, the Custom HTML element is now labeled as Embed Code. The Paragraph element is now called Text. What about the picture element? Now it's Image. The Scribd element? It's called Document.

The old toolbars felt a bit cramped and it wasn't always easy to decipher which button performed which function. The new toolboxes are bigger and very clearly labeled. Plus if you don't like where a toolbox shows up on the screen, you can click on it and drag it somewhere else.

Now you can see easily see what your site looks like on iPhone and Android, as well as choose a unique mobile theme and edit your mobile site directly from your computer.  Bitrix24 is a Bitrix, Inc product which seeks to help revolutionize the way that employees work, share and interact within their company via their very own <a href="http://www.bitrix24.com/features/" target="_blank">Bitrix powered social Intranet</a>. Bitrix currently supports organizations ranging from small sized, to Fortune 500 companies including well-known enterprises like Xerox, Samsung, Volkswagen. 
 Now, with their free to use mobile Intranet portal, smaller companies can begin to modernize the way they get work done by organizing staff, projects and company interactions under one, feature extensive digital roof.

Bitrix, Inc Releases Free Mobile Intranet Portal for Small Businesses

When it comes to increasing your website sales, your focus is most likely on building a visually appealing and responsive site that will attract visitors and make it easy for them to make a purchase.
However, there is so much you can do internally to increase your conversions; after all, how you manage your business will have a direct impact on what you are able to deliver to your customers. By optimizing your internal business processes, you can significantly speed up your backend workflows and have a positive impact on your users’ experience by delivering sales faster.
In this article, we go through the main two elements involved in this process.
<h2>1. Think about your content architecture</h2>
The most important element when designing your website is your content architecture, which refers to the way all your site content is organized and structured. The best content architectures are set up according to an organization’s unique goals and objectives. This is a truly important and yet often overlooked step of building a website, and will have an immense impact on your future internal processes and user journeys, giving you much more flexibility and efficiency.
When designing your content architecture, think about what your key objectives are (in this case, selling more), and map out your top five or ten user workflows. Once you do this, you can plan your entire content architecture around them, to make it as easy and efficient as possible for those particular workflows to be delivered.

The same applies to integrations. With time, you will undoubtedly need to update and add new integrations to your site, so ensure that your content architecture allows for the flexibility and scalability needed to accommodate this.
A well-planned content architecture will not only deliver a better user flow for your customers, but it will also make it as easy as possible for your content editors to build, edit and populate the site. This will increase efficiency both internally and externally, ensuring that products are delivered as quickly as possible.

<h2>2. Leverage data insights</h2>
Paying attention to your metrics will also give you insight into how your site is performing and, most importantly, how your sales are performing. Despite this, <a href="http://www.skyword.com/contentstandard/marketing/data-driven-marketing-becomes-a-focal-point-for-executives-according-to-study/">87% of marketers consider data their organization’s most underutilized asset</a>. If you are among this 87%, you are missing out one of your most valuable resources.
Sales data will offer you a good understanding of what improvements are needed to make it as easy as possible for your customers to make a purchase. Data analysis is an incredibly important step when optimizing your strategy, and is most effective when done consistently, whether that is daily, weekly or monthly.
On the design side, tools such as Google Analytics can give you key insights into the sorts of user flows customers are taking through your site; do these align with the user flows you would like them to take? Are users able to easily find content? Do any of your landing pages have higher-than-normal bounce rates and, if so, why? Are users leaving your site without converting, and if so, where?
You should also be able to generate and analyze data relating to all sales, so if your Ecommerce solution doesn’t provide this you could be missing out on key insights. What products are performing best? How are your special promotions performing? What’s your average order size? Could you provide any special offers based on this insight to encourage higher-revenue sales?
There are many metrics you could track according to your specific workflows and strategies, but some key ones are:
<h3>Conversion rate by landing page</h3>
Looking at your conversions by landing page will show you what pages are performing best; is there a particular product or promotion page that is highly effective? Has any page’s performance increased or decreased over time, and why? Could the success of high-performing pages be replicated on low-performing pages?
<h3>Per-session value</h3>
Knowing your average session value is a great way of establishing which of your products are most saleable based on their price. It is also a good metric to keep in mind when running promotions; you could set up a promotion at a value higher than the average sales value, encouraging visitors to spend a little more and increasing your overall sales revenue.
<h3>Bounce rate</h3>
Your bounce rate will give you insight into how individual pages or products on your website are performing. If a particular page has a very high bounce rate, there is most likely something you can do to improve it. Does the page title accurately describe its content or product? Or could the page design be unattractive? Is page content clearly organized and is information easy to find? Do you need to encourage users to remain on the site through additional call-to-actions (CTAs) or internal linking?
<h3>Top 10 pages (by Pageviews)</h3>
By looking at the ten pages with the highest pageviews, you can determine which of your site pages and products are most popular and see if these meet your expectations. Is there a particular page or product that should have more pageviews? Check to see if there is anything you can do to improve it, such as optimizing the design or changing the copy. On the other hand, if there is a particular product page with a high volume of pageviews but very few conversions, check to see if you can make the page more attractive or better describe the product.

Recently, I was contacted by the author of an incredibly detailed analysis of open source CMS security. As part of this breakdown, the analysis goes into detail about which systems have had the most vulnerabilities and the severity of them, coming up with a number of rather intriguing conclusions.
Take a look at this graph for instance:

As you can see, certain systems perform better than others and what I found especially interesting is that contrary to what you might hear on the ‘net, Joomla actually shows quite well from a security standpoint.
As part of the interpretation of this analysis, the author came to this conclusion:
<ul>
<li>WordPress only had a single serious vulnerability (in case I interpreted that correctly) — impressive.</li>
<li>Drupal did also well, only the percentage is a little higher due to the low number of overall issues.</li>
<li>In contrast to the first two, TYPO3 appeared to not do well at all. It has by far most serious vulnerabilities both in absolute numbers and the percentage. However, I would attribute part of the difference compared to the other projects to TYPO3's stricter rating of vulnerabilities. One should probably add a CVSS comparison to Drupal to get a more balanced result.</li>
<li>Joomla, while having the most vulnerabilities overall, did very well with serious ones (meaning it had few of those).</li>
<li>SilverStripe seems to be floating somewhere between the other projects, neither being exceptionally good or bad.</li>

The Winner of the 2014 People's Choice CMS Award for Best Cloud CMS for Enterprise

eZ Systems has released a new update to eZ Platform, their enterprise CMS. This release is heavily geared towards developers as most of the changes are aimed at them, however, there are a few small visible changes for content editors.
The first is the inclusion of tables within the content editor, meaning you can now insert and use them within content regions: <img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/platformui-table_medium.gif" /> For developers, the changes include items such as:
<ul>
<li>The public API is now much simpler to use when trying to access and use translated content </li>
<li>For those who use Solr, you can now use the Solr bundle to create search facets on Content Types, Sections and Users</li>
<li>Developers now have the ability to configure index time boosting within Solr, which lets them tune search results to provide more relevant results to users</li>
<li>New Design System – The new design system allows developers to better manage the designs (meaning templates and design assets) they want to apply to their sites. It lets them define Themes and build Designs from those themes with the ability to share and override themes. It’s a great feature for those building multisite solutions with eZ Platform.

eZ Systems releases eZ Platform 1.10

A new release of <a href="http://www.mojoportal.com">mojoPortal</a> has been made available. The major highlights of this release are support for Artisteer 3.1 and new Audio Player and Video Player features.

There are also a number smaller improvements and bug fixes for things reported in the forums since the last release, and there is a change in behavior when using SSL.
