Ah, the commercial forum niche. A province of the CMS world which is home to much discussion and debate (quite literally).

Demandbase releases real-time visitor identification for Drupal CMS

Most of your sales team will never like your CRM. Fact. Regardless of how shiny or new it is, your CRM will still create extra work for your team that doesn’t involve selling, and that’s a massive faux pas when it comes to keeping a sales person happy. 
I should know, I used to be one of them.

There’s nothing worse than finding yourself smothered under a ton of admin work on a Friday afternoon when you’re 2 sales away from hitting your target, and when your CRM process is standing between you and your $1k commission for the month – it doesn’t exactly instil feelings of goodwill.
However, since I’ve ‘switched sides’, I’ve seen just how important it is to have a quality CRM in place that’s both implemented and used correctly. When you duck out of sales for a while, you start to look at the long-term objectives of your business rather than your immediate goal of ‘hitting this week's target’.
Having experienced using a CRM system from both angles, I’m always on the look-out for a new tool that will cut down on admin for sales teams whilst also providing marketing teams with the customer information they need to do their jobs efficiently and effectively. After all, part of the marketing team's job is to generate inbound leads for sales. So it's a win-win when both parties are happy.
My internal CRM ‘sat nav’ recently brought me to the site for <a href="http://www.youdontneedacrm.com">You Don’t Need a CRM</a>. The company say that this system is designed for small businesses of up to 200 employees who want a ‘more proactive sales approach to turning leads into deals’.

To say I was intrigued is an understatement, so I decided to check it out. Read on for my review of the new ‘anti-CRM’ to see what this system is all about.
<h2>Getting Started</h2>
Getting set up with You Don’t Need A CRM is a fairly simple process and you have two options if you wish to participate in the free 15-day trial. 
To sign up, users can share the site on social media, provide more details via email (if you don’t use social media), or enter credit card details for billing for after the 15-day period. I liked seeing this focus on lead generation from the get-go, as it showed that these guys don’t just talk the talk.

There are regular webinars available if you need a hand with anything and the online tour is really useful also.
<h3>Managing Your Leads</h3>
To create a new lead, you can insert details manually, add a contact list, or scan in details via a website, business card, or email. 
To test it out, I added details for a very important prospective customer.

The default lead stages are ‘Incoming’, ‘In-touch’, and ‘Closing’, and lead details are inserted in a textbox that’s extremely easy to use. It’s a far cry from having to fill in 20+ contact details in a standard CRM, that’s for sure. You can also tag your leads for sorting purposes which is pretty handy.
The ‘upload via business card’ feature is great and will especially appeal to sales reps who are out on the road. Users can simply send a scan of the business card to the supplied email and it will be added as a new lead.
To upload via excel or CSV, simply go to ‘Prospecting File’ on the dashboard, click on the ‘+’ sign, and you’ll be presented with this page where you can add a title, description, and tags for your new prospects list.

<h3>The To-Do List</h3>
You Don’t Need A CRM have streamlined the whole sales management process into a basic ‘To-do list’. Each lead goes into the ‘To-do’ list automatically and remains there until you add a reminder for your next action; once you’ve added a reminder, it moves into ‘Standby’. 
From here, it can be moved into the next stages and there are default buckets that allow you to organize everything easily. 
For example, the ‘Alive’ bucket includes all leads listed under ‘Standby’ and ‘To-do’.

<h3>Email Management</h3>
As I mentioned above, you can upload leads via email by scanning a business card; but it’s also possible to use email to keep track of conversations with those leads. 
When you sign up, you’ll be given two custom email address – one for lead creation and one for lead tracking. To track your conversations via email, simply bcc the custom email address that’s provided.
<h3>Reporting Functionality</h3>
This isn’t great. Whilst the basic nature of everything else on this system seems to be a plus, the lack of in-depth reporting functionality will be a stumbling block for most businesses.
There are 3 main reports; ‘History’, ‘Won’, and ‘Future’ – and that’s it. There’s no other customization available and you can’t create your own reports. Whilst this may not be an issue for very small businesses, most companies will be used to a far more extensive reporting function.
<h3>Pricing</h3>
Pricing is really affordable at $19 per month for 1 user and an extra $7 per month for every other user. It’s definitely a solid option for the small business owner.
<h2>So, Do You Need A CRM?</h2>
In short, yes. Even if you don’t need an extensive CRM right now, you will need one eventually. However, You Don’t Need A CRM is a great stepping stone before moving on to a larger CRM, and it will appeal to small businesses with an immediate focus on lead generation and management.
This is a ‘love it or hate it’ kind of tool that will really suit the business owner who craves a little more simplicity in their CRM. It definitely won’t be a good fit for anyone looking for an extensive reporting tool, though.
In the long-term, I can see You Don’t Need A CRM taking off as a lead management tool to use alongside a more full-featured CRM. It would definitely compliment any of the top dog CRM systems really well.

In a move that's bound to cause speculation in the social media world, Twitter, the popular micro-blogging site, has snapped up staff from an email marketing startup named RestEngine. While we're not 100% clear what exact services or products RestEngine offered, we did find this diagram on their site which might help clear things up for some people:

Externally Hosted Intranets: What’s The Hype?

Hannon Hill, creators of the Enterprise CMS <a href="http://www.hannonhill.com/" target="_blank">Cascade Server</a>, have announced today that Cascade Server 7.8 is now live and ready for users to begin upgrading to.
Cascade Server is a robust platform built from the ground up to help enterprising companies manage their websites in a professional, powerful manner. Recently, Cascade Server was nominated in the <a href="/2013-people-s-choice-winner-for-best-enterprise-cms/#.Uo83L8QvlyU" target="_blank">CMS Critic People's Choice Award for Best Enterprise CMS</a>.
With Cascade Server 7.8 now released, users can look forward to a host of changes, particularly in regards to the way they interact with their assets and information. With this update, Hannon Hill claim to have satisfied over 300 user votes from their <a href="http://ideas.hannonhill.com" target="_blank">user idea exchange</a>. So, let's take a look a what's new.
<h2>Relationships &amp; New Permissions Interface</h2>
Cascade Server 7.9 brings about control over relationships between assets, which was one of the most voted on ideas in the user idea exchange. Now, users of all roles can see how assets such as page link to and refer to each other.
All assets that link to a particular page can now be viewed quickly and easily, so finding out what will be affected by a change to that page in now a faster process.

Additionally, thanks to one-click publishing, users can quickly re-publish all assets which link to a particular page, even when they rename, modify or move it.
The update also brings about a completely revamped permission interface, which allows users to take advantage of type-ahead search to quickly locate users and groups, along with faster load times in implementations involving large numbers of users and groups.

Users can now also assign and unassign permissions for other individual users and groups for specific folders and its contained assets, all whilst preserving other existing permissions on other assets.
<h2>Saved History &amp; Assorted UI Improvements</h2>
Working in more than one place is now easier, thanks to all asset history now being maintained between sessions and browsers. This enables users to pick up where they left off whenever and wherever they log in. Additionally, when users log-in or switch between sites, the navigation on the left hand side will be expanded to the last folder they were working in on that particular site.

To top these updates off, Cascade Server 7.8 also introduces a number of UI improvements.
A new, more prominent version comments box has been designed to help remind users to use comments when submitting edits. Plus, the new smart version comments automatically populates the comments with a summary of which fields were changed.
There are also two new Data Definition field types, which are; an asset chooser field that allows you to select pages, files and external links, and a dropdown interface that supports user submitted values in addition to pre-determined values.

Cascade Server 7.8 Launched

Not too long ago, <a href="/ghost-0.5-released-with-re-written-admin-ui-multi-user-support-more/" target="_blank">Ghost announced plans to release features on a (very) regular basis</a>. Now though, the youthful blogging platform has gone a step further, enabling users to test features still under construction. 
Ghost is a relatively new and exciting blogging platform. Recently, it was crowned the <a href="/2014-most-promising-cms/" target="_blank">2014 Critics' Choice Award Winner for Most Promising CMS</a>.
This new feature has been given the name Ghost Labs. 
<h2>Protective Eye Goggles Not Necessary</h2>

Essentially, Ghost Labs is a brand new settings page within Ghost which allows you to access bits of brand new and unreleased Ghost functionality.
John O'Nolan, the founder of Ghost, had this to say:

So, Ghost users can now access import and export features more easily (whereas previously these were hidden on a debug page), as well as some handy tools to reset content.

Newly Released Ghost Labs Lets Users Test Unreleased Features

<h3>What is new with Constellation?</h3>
A couple new features recently added to the Constellation Suite are the ability to share data between sites/portals and automatic detection of duplicate content and assignment of canonical URL. Wow! Those words sound so nice, but what are you talking about? Lets take these features one at a time.
<h4>Data Sharing Between Sites</h4>
“Why oh why would I want to share content between websites?” Pretend for a moment that you built your site to look beautiful only on your typical browser. You did not have the foresight to make it mobile friendly so all those many thousands of tablet and smartphone users have to zoom and scroll or send your articles to a Read It Later app to keep from squinting. So, being the smart person you are, you make a mobile version of your site. Wouldn't it be nice to “share” the content from your regular site to your mobile friendly site? Wow! That would be great! That is just one example of what this “sharing” feature will allow.
<blockquote>“When shared, the content is treated like it is part of the new site instead of taking the user back to the original website. This is to make sure that the shared data doesn’t take the user off the site that they are currently browsing, prioritizing engagement on the existing site. Administrators that have permission to see all of the sites are allowed to choose what websites can share data with each other, while website administrators have the ability to decide when to use the data from another website on their particular website pages.”</blockquote>
<h4>Duplicate Content Detection</h4>
The problem that may arise is duplicate content with all this sharing going on. PackFlash has this issue covered with the update to their Friendly URLs module.

Payrexx Launches the First One Page Shop Software in the US

<a href="https://ghost.org/" target="_blank">Ghost</a>, the freshly crowned winner of the <a href="/2014-most-promising-cms/" target="_blank">2014 Critic's Choice Award for Most Promising CMS</a>, has taken another important step forward in the world of blogging platforms — by buying up some competition.
<a href="https://roon.io/" target="_blank">Roon.io</a>, like Ghost, was a young blogging platform. It launched in June 2013, making it only a few months older and Ghost. Along with over 100,000 users, Roon had a deep focus on making content creation easy, although its standout feature was its markdown editor. So standout was this feature in fact, that it sparked the interest of Ghost. 
Here's some of the story behind the move, along with some hints at what will happen next.

Via the Ghost blog, founder John O'Nolan remarked that Roon.io was, “a beautifully designed, Markdown powered, modern blogging platform.” Notable praise from a man who knows his stuff.
O'Nolan went on though, pinpointing Roon's markdown editor as a reason for the acquisition:

Speaking of Roon users, Ghost has tried to make their migration process an amicable one.
