If you want to create an effective content marketing strategy, there are two critical stages that your organization needs to move through.
The first contains the things you need to consider before you start, and the second contains the processes you need to pass through  in order to implement it effectively and keep it on track once it is released.
<h2>Stage One (3 Steps)</h2>
Here's what stage one consists of:
<h3>1. A List of Topics</h3>
This keeps content on-topic making idea generation easier and avoids it becoming too “salesy”. The nature of content marketing means it is important to choose topics with audience appeal.
Businesses should approach content strategy from an audience perspective when compiling a list of topics by asking themselves the following two questions:
<ol>
<li>What questions does the audience have that obstruct a purchasing decision?</li>
<li>Is this topic a sales pitch or a description of a problem and its solution?</li>
</ol>
<h3>2. Define a Set of Goals</h3>
These enable content marketing plans to maintain a results-oriented approach. Is the main goal, for instance, to boost webinar enrollment or generate new leads? The best way to devise a set of goals is to examine current problems and brainstorm how content marketing might solve them. Ask questions like, “what effect do we want our content marketing to have?”
<h3>3. Stylistic Guidelines</h3>
These enable writers to craft purposeful, high-quality content, with a seamless editorial process. This includes what voice to use, how to format content, and how to make it more accessible. Content guidelines keep content marketing on-brand for organizations requiring a larger content development team.
<h2>Stage Two (9 Steps)</h2>
Here are some manageable guidelines to get you through stage two of your content marketing strategy planning:
<h3>1. Formulate Your Strategy</h3>
While the formats and planning methodology can vary depending on the organization, the main questions you want to answer in your plan include the following:
<h3>2. Set Your Goals</h3>
The first step and quite possibly the most important question to answer. This is where you define your goals and objectives. Typically, your broad goal is probably to drive sales and grow your business. But you want to be more specific in identifying this. The more specific you are, the easier it is to create more meaningful content.
<h3>3. Identify Your Audience</h3>
A thorough understanding of your audience is essential. This includes clearly defining demographics, psychographics and the behavior of your audience. Also, clearly understanding the triggers that motivate them to action will help create a content strategy that gets results.
<h3>4. Nail Down Your Voice</h3>
Most business describes their tone with a few words, but when bringing their content to life it lacks a clear personality. What are your company’s tone and voice for content? What tone could best achieve your marketing objectives and speak to your audience. An apparent personality or tone in content makes it more relatable and allows your audience to feel connected.
<h3>5. Decide on What Content Should be Created</h3>
The next step is to decide what content you should create. The content creation plan should include the themes, messages, and topics. To create a good content strategy, it is helpful to research the landscape and look at the discussion forums, twitter, search, and blogs to understand what your audience is interested in. Also consider the action that you want someone to take as a result of engaging with your content. Bridge the gap between brand objectives and audience desires.
<h3>6. Decide How The content Will be Created</h3>
Once you complete the strategy, next determine how the execution will occur. Make sure the right people are creating the right content. Do you need to hire writers? Unless you build the content, people can’t come. Good content needs a good syndication and promotion plan. Consider paid and owned media options. Use social networks to spread the message and integrate social media sharing into the design of your content, and don’t make it an afterthought.
Content marketing is highly targeted. Campaigns are about getting your message in front of the largest and most targeted audience as possible. A large audience means more people know about you, and a more targeted audience means they are more than likely potential buyers. With Content marketing, you develop content specifically produced for your customers. This is the type of content that brings buyers back to your website. This in turn draws a targeted audience of people to your site. Things that you want to keep in mind when you write your content.
<h3>7. Provide Content That Your Customers Want</h3>
Many people make a simple but fatal mistake. They write their content about their business. Why is this bad? Because most customers don’t care about your business, they care about themselves. Content marketing wants to take advantage of this by providing valuable content that customers want and need in exchange for their attention.
<h3>8. Avoid Shameless Self-promotion (Mostly)</h3>
Providing value to customers means you mostly write content for the customer’s benefit and occasionally promote your products. People are interested in content that helps them – not ads that promote your product or service. By giving customers what they want nine times out of ten, you’ll be rewarded with an engaged and targeted audience.
<h3>9. Do the Research</h3>
Sometimes it’s hard to know what your target audience wants to read about. One way to find this out is to visit sites within your industry – check popular blogs, review Twitter, Facebook, Google, to name but a few. Do the research to find out what’s needed and then write that content.
<h2><img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/laptop-849800_1280-e1467896662225.jpg" alt="laptop-849800_1280" /></h2>
<h2>Content Marketing Best Practices</h2>
The essence of effectiveness is in knowing how to optimize your strategies. But how can you focus on those that allow more efficient connections with various stakeholders across a number of social channels, drive conversations, and influence customers? When opening up content contributions to more users across your organization, you provide more opportunities to connect and engage your customers in social channels, and you extend your online reach.
In order to engage users and keep visitors returning to your site, it is necessary to deliver fresh, compelling, and appropriate content, and then extend this to your social channels. Make sure you provide content that covers broader issues and doesn’t only focus on things that advertise the features and benefits of the product. Through tailoring this content to your audience, you are constantly identifying the right content which is imperative to the success of any content.
Take the time to listen to the online conversations of your target audience and then optimize content and strategy based on the insights you gather from them. And like any marketing activity, setting goals for the expected outcomes of any of the content produced means sometimes being ruthless. Don’t be afraid to test new ideas continually, expand and optimize what works and dump what doesn’t.
<h3>Content Marketing: Basic Techniques</h3>
Aligning sales and marketing to determine your target audience helps create a content and editorial plan of relevant topics. Don’t forget to produce content regularly that is fresh, relevant, timely, and audience-optimized.
<h3>Content Marketing: Advanced Techniques</h3>
Develop personas to understand better your customers and create a map that identifies the process of information each of your personas needs throughout the buying process. Provide website visitors with the ability to socialize and amplify content using Twitter, Google +1’s, and Facebook Likes, and build your backlinks for better SEO to ensure they contain high quality, relevant links.
<h3>Content Marketing: Optimization</h3>
Review data to better match the right communication to the right customers, and review and produce content based on the keyword phrases that are driving your organic search traffic and conversions. Continually review lead scoring and criteria to provide the most accurate score possible and re-imagine content in different forms (blogs/whitepapers/webinars, etc.)

The Ultimate Guide to Formulating a Content Marketing Strategy

Queue the fireworks.
Amidst the explosion of acquisitions and partnerships across the CMS and DXP industries, <a href="https://kontent.ai/" target="_blank">Kontent.ai</a> – now formerly Kontent by Kentico – has officially <a href="https://kontent.ai/blog/kontent-ai-has-raised-40-million-in-growth-capital/" target="_blank">declared its independence</a>.
After securing a whopping $40 million investment from Expedition Growth Capital (EGC), the <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/tag/headless/">headless</a> Content Management System is now a standalone enterprise for the first time. The next stop on the growth path: enhance its product by bringing AI deeper into its CMS.
Currently powering over 2,000 projects – from websites to apps to <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/top-headless-commerce-platforms/">headless commerce</a> experiences – Kontent.ai came from humble beginnings. Originally started in 2015 as a business unit of its elder bootstrapped parent, <a href="https://www.kentico.com/" target="_blank">Kentico</a>, Kontent now boasts a roster of global brands, including Algolia, Anaplan, SonarSource, and Zurich Insurance.
Kentico's fledgling division already employed over 120 staff across five offices on four different continents before the announcement. As a newly-minted independent company, Kontent.ai already has plans to increase its headcount by 100 over the next 12 months.
By channeling investment into "human power," Kontent will have the resources to expand its global footprint by amping up marketing and sales. It will also have ample funds to further innovate and enhance composable AI across its modular content platform.
<h2>Kentico's rise in the headless CMS market</h2>
Let's face it: headless is hot. In fact, the headless CMS market alone is projected to reach $1.6 billion by 2027.
In its "<a href="https://www.gartner.com/en/documents/3994550" target="_blank">Adopt a Composable DXP Strategy to Future-Proof Your Tech Stack</a>" report, Gartner estimates that organizations that have adopted a composable approach will outpace the competition by 80% in 2023 – specifically when it comes to new feature implementation.
CMS and DXP vendors are rapidly embracing <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/mach-alliance-releases-study-on-adoption-of-mach-technologies-by-tech-leaders-qa-with-sonja-keerl/">MACH and the composable revolution.</a> With this spin-off, Kontent.ai appears to be taking a major step towards becoming a composable DXP. While competition across the stack has been increasingly fierce, Kontent has a critical advantage by not being "the new kid on the block."
<a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/tag/kentico/">Kentico</a> has been helping to shape the CMS landscape for almost two decades. As a stable fixture in Gartner's Quadrant for Digital Experience Platforms, it has juiced Kontent's prospects significantly – giving it an edge towards success.

<img style="max-width:700px" src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2022/03/gartner-mq-dxp-2022.jpg" alt="Gartner Magic Quadrant for DXP graphic 2022" />

Despite the blessing of Kentico's DNA, the dream of Kontent.ai has been seven years in the making. During that time, Kontent has established itself as a contender in the headless CMS market, powering content delivery and collaboration at scale.
<h2>Kontent.ai brings advantages to marketers and developers</h2>
These days, it may sound cliché to position a CMS or DXP as a platform that "unites" marketers and developers. But Kontent.ai believes that both parties have a stake in the digital experience – and by adopting Kontent as their platform, a business can unlock the potential for both parts of its team.
From a marketer's perspective, Kontent's modular capabilities help organizations unify, organize and manage all business content in a cloud-based repository. Its intuitive authoring experience allows for simultaneous, collaborative work at every phase of the content lifecycle. Using Kontent.ai, content teams can easily plan, create, and review content with streamlined workflows and approvals. Editors can also focus on content without being blocked by structural design choices that govern how and where their content will be displayed.
From a developer's perspective, Kontent's modern, microservices-based architecture allows for seamless integration with other applications and technologies. Robust APIs, webhooks, and flexible content models give developers full control over the structure of their content and how it's delivered to their websites and applications. This ensures clean, organized content can be pulled into any experience or technology stack, saving developers time and allowing them to focus on the best way to display information. Meanwhile, the cloud-based infrastructure means there are no concerns over maintenance – and virtually no downtime or performance issues.
<h2>Delivering centralized content to distributed organizations</h2>
According to the company, there has been an ever greater need for Kontent following the rise of hybrid and remote work. As global companies shifted due to the pandemic, they needed to centralize content and reproduce digital experience at scale while employees leveraged and produced across different locations.
Using Kontent.ai, multinational organizations are able to ensure consistent content across languages and regions, with no need to jump in and out of other apps. The result: improved real-time collaboration and planning that saves both time and money.
<h2>Using composable AI to evolve content management</h2>
It's clear that Kontent.ai is looking to push the boundaries on technology. Following its recent investment news, the company has been doubling down on the development of its composable AI features.
So what is "Composable AI" anyway? According to Kontent, it's the application of machine learning capabilities directly within its CMS, so it's available where its needed – and can be distributed to support specific teams, workflows, use cases, or delivery channels.
Kontent believes that for AI to bring true value, it needs to be purposeful, targeted, and actionable. In achieving these things, AI will enable Kontent's customers to improve all aspects of content operations, from creating more relevant content to optimizing results to automating repetitive tasks.
<h2>Rapid change ahead as Kontent.ai and Kentico appoint new CEOs</h2>
As part of the announcement, the separation of the two companies will also bring changes to the captain's chairs: the newly formed Kontent.ai will be led by <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/bartomlo/" target="_blank">Bart Omlo</a>, while <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/dominik-xperience-pinter/" target="_blank">Dominik Pintér</a> will take the helm at its former parent. Kentico's current CEO and founder, <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/petrpalas/" target="_blank">Petr Palas</a>, will become Chairman of the Board for both companies.
"With this investment into Kontent.ai, now as its own company, we're excited to expand our global footprint helping enterprise teams scale their content operations, make the most of machine learning and AI, and deliver exceptional digital experiences," said Omlo. "With Kontent.ai's modular content platform, we push the boundaries of content management to give our customers the competitive edge."
Kentico recently introduced a new cloud-native version of its digital experience platform called <a href="https://www.kentico.com/" target="_blank">Xperience by Kentico</a> – which was chosen as <a href="https://www.kentico.com/discover/blog/kentico-xperience-received-gartner-customers-choice-for-dxp" target="_blank">Gartner's Choice for DXP</a> last year. Xperience is a separate tool designed for midmarket companies, and Kentico plans to continue supporting its growth and enhancement. Additionally, the company is investing heavily in product development – and as part of the funding announcement, will also receive an additional $20m of committed capital from EGC that will be used to support its growth in the future.

Established in 2007, EDU 2.0 have steadily grown into one of the most popular learning management systems of offer – and for good reason.
EDU 2.0 raced past the 1 million user mark back in 2013, and are still going strong today by providing their platform for schools, universities and businesses in particular.
They moved their entire platform into the cloud in 2008, and claim to, “still operate like a startup”, with new features rolling out all the time. The icing on the cake is EDU 2.0's super sleek interface, making their platform easy on the eyes, and easy to use.
<h2>A Perfect Fit for Schools &amp; Universities</h2>
EDU 2.0 for School/University – as the name implies, was originally designed for the schooling system back in 2007.
The platform enables schools and universities to take advantage of a number of features, including curricula creation tools, lesson planning, attendance checks, and more. All of which can also be tracked and measured using built-in analytics, helping teachers to visualise progress of individuals and groups.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/sshot-17700x0.png" alt="EDU 2.0 Learning Management System" />
Furthermore, EDU 2.0 offers a completely free package for schools with up to 2000 students. The free plan does not expire, and includes unlimited storage, unlimited bandwidth, and access to community support forums.
<h2>Seamless Integration for Businesses of All Sizes</h2>
EDU 2.0 for Business was launched in 2010, and offers a wide range of useful features. These include file management, calender scheduling, and a handy integrated messaging and alerts system to help streamline workflows.
Ecommerce is also supported by EDU 2.0, which enables its business users to associate costs with their courses, thus allowing students to browse and make purchases using their credit card or PayPal accounts. EDU 2.0's shopping cart also supports multiple discount codes and multiple currencies, with Authorize.net and PayPal offered as payment gateways.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/sshot-1700x0.png" alt="EDU 2.0 Learning Management System" />
Perhaps the most helpful feature of EDU 2.0 for Business, is its flexibility when it comes to integration with other tools and services. Such services include Google Docs, LDAP, Calendars (iCal), Paypal, SMTP/POP3, and more.
Further integration – with Google Apps, for example, is set for later on in 2014, whilst EDU 2.0's API can be used to create custom integrations.
<h2>Help &amp; Support in a Variety of Forms</h2>
Integrating and understanding a new piece of software can be stressful on staff within both schools and businesses, and since migrating from one digital environment to another has an impact on almost every task, the learning curve needs to be a short one.
The team at EDU 2.0 recognizes these issues and provides a robust support system to help ease companies and schools into their software. Help and support come in the form of standard on-site training, web-hosted training via online conferences, regularly updated video libraries, and more.
To find out more about Edu 2.0, check out their <a href="https://www.edu20.org" target="_blank">official website</a>. You can even try out an <a href="https://www.edu20.org/info/demo" target="_blank">online demo</a>.

EDU 2.0: a Flexible, Cloud-based Learning Management System

If you have ever written anything online, you'll know that it can often be a challenge figuring out how to best position your content and gain visibility for it online. Thanks to a tool called InboundWriter, the writing process just became a whole lot easier. For those looking to develop a content marketing strategy, this product should be on your list.
<h2>What exactly is it?</h2>
InboundWriter is a web-based content optimization application that helps content marketers and professional writers of all types to create web-friendly content. There is also a WordPress plugin, which can be installed from the WordPress plugin repository.
<h2>How does it work?</h2>
The application/WordPress plugin suggests popular keywords as you type, empowering you, the writer, to make informed decisions regarding striking a balance between style and optimization for the web.
Until now, the traditional online writing process was broken into separate stages – research, writing and optimization. InboundWriter combines them all into a single application by integrating real-time insights from a variety of web sources, including search engines and social media, directly into the writing process. Documents created in InboundWriter are scored on a scale of 1 to 100 based on their findability and in accordance with the content optimization strategy, as identified in the settings by the writer. Signing up and exploring the insights and automation that InboundWriter provides is completely free. Professional users may upgrade to a premium account with unlimited editing and no advertising for a monthly subscription fee.
<h2>What I Think About It</h2>
I think InboundWriter is an excellent tool to help writers get back to the business of writing and I think it's extremely useful for those who have been pushed into a blended role of creator/marketer. It removes the stress of having to figure out how best to position your content for maximum exposure. If you are in the process of trying to define your content marketing strategy, InboundWriter should definitely be on your list of applications to consider adding to your repertoire.
I'm a big fan of choices and InboundWriter gives you plenty of them. At any time,  you can choose your content marketing strategy, effectively telling InboundWriter what your goals for the particular piece of content are.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/wp_plugin_strategies-620x497.png" alt="InboundWriter Review" />
Once it has your goals in mind, the system changes it's focus and guides you in the writing process by providing new suggestions and recommendations as you write.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/wp_plugin_tips-620x497.png" alt="InboundWriter Review" />
The stars in the screenshot above show you which terms are more likely to give you higher traffic &amp; exposure, allowing you to alter your content accordingly. This is handy if you, like me, are unsure at times which keywords are the best to use as focus terms for your content.
Once you've completed all of the steps suggested by InboundWriter, you should have a score that shows green and the gauge in the software should show you in the 80-100 range (shown below). This is how you determine that you've done a good job targeting your content.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/wp_plugin_finished-620x497.png" alt="InboundWriter Review" />

Any visitor to this site can see that there’s a huge array of content management systems on offer that all aim to help create a common user interface for dealing with the creation and maintenance of digital data.
But many people who are building websites will be unsure as to whether to jump into this complicated area. And so here’s a quick rundown of reasons why you may need a content management system, and which are some good options.
Controlling content
Ever since Bill Gates stated that ‘<a href="http://www.silkstream.net/blog/2014/07/content-is-king-bill-gates-1996.html">content is king</a>’ in 1996, there’s been hundreds of websites being created each minute, and many ways that organisations have sought to try and control the huge amount of data being produced.
Although there are many informative sites that are relatively static and won’t require frequent updating, for most modern dynamic websites, there has grown the pressing need for the usage of a content management system (CMS).
A CMS is an invaluable tool in the upkeep of a website, and in a collaborative domain such systems are critical to avoid the disorganisation of data which can lead to delays, confusion and productive inefficiency.
CMS in operation
CMS systems work by featuring a common user interface that allows multiple users to add, remove and edit content on a website to a predetermined template. And such preset designs mean that a site can benefit from a harmonious aesthetic and allow the content producers to focus on the message, rather than having to deal with unwieldy HTML or CSS.
Such systems have a wide range of applications and can be very handy to use when creating a news blog that needs to be constantly updated with latest stories. The entertainment blog at Lucky Nugget Casino uses such a system to talk about their <a href="http://blog.luckynuggetcasino.com/big-movie-slots-to-expect-in-2016/">latest slot games offerings</a> in a way that’s stylistically coherent across the whole of the site so that gamers can easily find the relevant information and even share such stories via social media.
The great thing about the CMS system found at the casino gaming site is that it allows for a much more dynamic approach to content creation. This is especially important at a gaming site where there is a constant supply of new gaming products to promote in a way that necessitates a flexible way for site builders to organise the content that is created.
CMS choices
As examples like the ones above have frequent updates, many content management systems will also feature a buffer so that <a href="http://www.socialmediatoday.com/content/guide-great-content-marketing-buffer-case-study">posts can be scheduled</a> without the webmaster being present. This is particularly handy in the social media age where timing can have a surprising effect on the efficacy of a post.
And with a range of software like the WordPress CMS, as well as SharePoint and Joomla constantly offering an impressive range of features, it looks like we’ll all be gaining easier access to the latest news stories, shopping products and online games in the future.

Why you need a Content Management System

<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/auditorium-572776_1280-e1467648402113.jpg" alt="auditorium-572776_1280" /> This is an open and unapologetic letter to CMS vendors who can't figure out why their updates get no love from their community.
More to the point, it's a letter to those same vendors who don't understand why their updates aren't news worthy.
Let's get to it:
[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”vertical-curve-both” width=”auto” height=”” background_color=”#ffffff” border_width=”1″ border_color=”#dddddd” ]
Dear CMS vendors,
As the Editor of CMS Critic, my inbox is battered with “news” of updates from around the world of CMS on a daily basis.
Some of those news items are interesting – but most of them aren't.
Here's why:
<h2>1. You Announced Your Update Horribly</h2>
Here's something that really bugs me, personally.
If you are launching a new product, or perhaps announcing a set of new features for an existing one, you should do so with energy, commitment, and confidence.
But far too often, I see announcements being made with zero effort.
For example, I see blog post announcements that are made up of nothing but bullet points. No introductions, no images, no structure, no nothing.
I also receive abysmally short press releases with minimal information and a short quote from a CEO saying something generic. This approach will bore your community – and repel journalists.
Instead, here's how to best present your update:
<ul>
<li>Blog Post: Publish a well-crafted blog post, with images and preferably a video. These should be directed towards your users first and foremost, but with the press in mind also.</li>
<li>Press Release: Here's where you can focus on journalists. Give them extended (and interesting) quotes from your executives, more images, and some general information about your company. Link to your blog post announcement, too.</li>
<li>Go The Extra Mile: If your update or product launch is worth shouting about, then do some shouting. Feature it in your next email newsletter, talk about it on social media, make custom graphics for it, make a video for it, and start a hashtag. Just do something to stand out.</li>
</ul>
<h2>2. Your Update Ignored User Feedback &amp; Complaints</h2>
You boast about being community driven, but do you actually let your community drive anything?
Releasing updates is almost always a positive event, but if you take years to implement features that your community is in need of, don't be surprised when they don't applaud your latest version – because it's not what they want.
If you have this issue, there is no quick fix. You'll have to go back to the drawing board to begin prioritising the features that your audience has been crying out for.
But it will be worth it, because a happy community is more likely to buy your add-ons, share your news, and <a href="/cms-critic-awards/">vote for you in the CMS Awards</a>.
Plus, a journalist such as myself will be more inclined to cover said news, since it got such an awesome reception.
<h2>3. Your “Major” Update is Actually Minor</h2>
Your product's major updates are golden opportunities for you to gain new customers and claim media coverage. But so often, those chances go begging.
When <a href="/wordpress-4-4-beta-bare-bones/">WordPress 4.4 was released, I accused it of being “bare bones”</a>. Because it was.
But WordPress isn't the only CMS vendor guilty of this. I've seen many “major” updates that are truly disappointing in terms of value.
If you aren't able to bring together a string of genuinely interesting additions to your platform, then I suggest you hold off on releasing it – even if that means having to adjust your product's roadmap.
If it's a chronic problem, you may want to stop releasing so many minor updates in between the major ones, so you have something left over for what should always be the biggest milestone in your product's history.
The fact of the matter is, a lot of CMS vendors are approaching their updates all wrong. Hopefully, the points I have raised in this open letter reach the right people, and sparks the right kind of change.
Yours frustratedly,

An Open Letter to CMS Vendors: Why Nobody Cares About Your Latest Update

<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/ecwid-shopping-cart-logo-1024x269.png" alt="Ecwid-Shopping-Cart-Logo" />
After covering <a href="https://www.ecwid.com/" target="_blank">Ecwid’s</a> awesome ShopApp feature – which allows merchants to launch their own native iOS and Android retail app – it’s time to take a look at another Ecwid feature; automated taxes.
On a personal level, taxes make my brain hurt. In fact, I deem it as one of eCommerce’s scariest hurdles – and I’m sure I’m not alone.
To make life easier for merchants though, Ecwid recently partnered with TaxJar to automate the entire process. What more is, that automation is available for free for all paid Ecwid users.
<h2>Tax Is No Longer Taxing</h2>
The alliance between Ecwid and TaxJar means something very significant; merchants from the U.S., Canada, EU, and Australia can set up tax rates in their store with just one click. Seriously.
Once enabled, the automatic tax rate will determine a precise tax rate at checkout depending on where you and your customer are located. All the technical stuff is done behind the scenes.
How? Well, the tool knows the tax rules in your country, state, and even your county – which is the hardest part, really. It then simply applies them properly to each order as and when they come in.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/ecwid-tax-feature-1-1024x459.png" alt="Ecwid Tax Feature" />
If you’re worrying about its level of tax knowledge, don’t. Here’s why:
The TaxJar integration knows whether you’re located in a region with origin-based or destination-based tax schema, whether shipping cost or discounts are taxable, whether you should charge tax in another state or country not, whether the tax rate is calculated with a zip code accuracy. If your customer provide zip+4, it will be calculated with even higher precision. In some U.S. states the tax is calculated with a street address level precision!
The real beauty of this automated tax feature is that it will stay up to date with all new tax laws that get implemented in your country. So you never have to worry about updating your tax configurations – it’s all automatic.
<h2>More To Come</h2>
But that’s not all, because Ecwid has already unveiled some of its plans to expand their automated tax feature with the help of TaxJar.
By the end of 2016, they hope to introduce:
<ul>
<li>Multiple nexuses for US sellers, which allows for accurate rates to be calculated if your store operates in several states.</li>
<li>Automated reporting &amp; filing to fully automate sales tax management, and more.</li>
</ul>
Essentially, Ecwid is taking that scary tax hurdle and throwing it off the track, so you can focus on running your business.

A Closer Look at Ecwid’s Automated Tax Feature

To continue with this Ecwid-focused featured week, we’re taking a look at how the product helps keep its users effective – even when they’re away from their desks.
Previously, we discussed the <a href="/retail-app-ecwid-shopapp/">Ecwid ShopApp feature</a>, <a href="/ecwids-automated-tax-feature/">tax automation</a>, and the <a href="/ecwid-for-wordpress-an-easy-secure-ecommerce-plugin/">Ecwid WordPress plugin</a>.
Now, let’s take a closer look at how it caters to merchants who like to get out and about as they handle their business.
<h2>Manage Your Store, Wherever You Are</h2>
There’s nothing quite like the freedom that comes with running an online business. But that freedom is expanded upon when you can cope with your daily routine from just about anywhere with internet coverage.
Ecwid has mobile-specific features that make it supremely easy to manage your entire store whilst on the move.
This is done through the Ecwid App, which allows all users to log in and get to work.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/products-main-min.jpg" alt="products-main-min" />
Here’s a breakdown of the Ecwid App features:
<ul>
<li>Manage orders on your mobile device: Ecwid merchants can see their new and existing orders and begin taking the necessary actions to get them shipped or delivered.</li>
<li>Photograph and upload your products: Shoot, upload, and sell, all from a mobile device.</li>
<li>Modify inventory, you can update product names, prices, and descriptions from within your Ecwid App.</li>
<li>Get notified: The app will send you push notifications about new orders.</li>
<li>Share your products: You can share products from the app to Instagram and Facebook, or via text messaging and email.</li>
<li>Sell on the go: At a trade show? No problem. The Ecwid App lets you accept payments directly, like a makeshift POS system with a credit card swiper.</li>
</ul>
Furthermore, Ecwid deploys an extremely simple and standardized checkout procedure, which streamlines the checkout process for customers using mobile devices.
When customers access an Ecwid on their mobile phone the store utilizes responsive design to the store automatically matches the size of the screen. So combining responsive design with a standardized checkout process and having this all automatically part of the product means higher conversion rates on mobile for the merchant.
<h2>The Ecwid ShopApp</h2>
<a href="/retail-app-ecwid-shopapp/">Ecwid’s ShopApp</a>, which we discussed previously, is yet another example of the focus Ecwid has given to the world of mobile.
The ShopApp enables (Ecwid Unlimited) users to launch their very own retail app, personalized for their specific Ecwid store. An excitingly awesome feature, by all means.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/ios-img.jpg" alt="ios-img" />
This helps merchants reach their audience not just through responsive design that works well with mobile web browsers, but through the medium of an app, which are far easier to access – and give off a heightened sense of professionalism.

How Ecwid Puts Mobile First

<img alt="sshot-1" src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/sshot-1-2.png" /> WordPress is the most popular content management system in the world – for many good reasons. One of those reasons, is the flexibility it offers through third-party plugins like the <a href="https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/ecwid-shopping-cart">Ecwid WordPress Plugin</a>, which makes for an impressive eCommerce extension.
<blockquote>
“Ecwid is the best e-commerce solution for WordPress applications. Ecwid offers a solution that easily integrates with a responsive WordPress platform and is much easier and more cost effective [when] compared to most other e-commerce solutions.”
— Mikel Bruce, CEO and Founder at tinyfrog.com.
</blockquote>
Let’s take a closer look at what Ecwid’s WordPress plugin brings to the table.
<h2>Ecwid WordPress Plugin Features</h2>
<img alt="sshot-2" src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/sshot-2-1.png" />
The Ecwid WordPress plugin boasts all the native features of Ecwid that can be integrated across a number of platforms.
Those features include:
<ul>
<li>Install Ecwid in minutes</li>
<li>Sleek interfaces and product catalogs</li>
<li>Responsive design</li>
<li>Personalised customer accounts</li>
<li>Product favoriting </li>
<li>Automatic language detection</li>
<li>Smart shipping calculator</li>
<li>Multiple POS system integrations (including Clover, Vend, and Square POS)</li>
<li>Detailed tax automation</li>
<li>Personalised retail apps for iOS and Android via the Ecwid ShopApp feature (for Ecwid Unlimited users only)</li>
</ul>
<h2>Free for WordPress.org </h2>
Ecwid also offers a totally free plan that doesn’t require any further modules or plugins to function. And the Ecwid control panel is now accessed from inside your WordPress dashboard so you don’t need to log in to separate locations.
At the time of writing, the plugin boasts over 20,000 downloads and a 4.6/5 star rating on the <a href="https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/ecwid-shopping-cart">WordPress plugin repository</a>.
<h2>Smart &amp; Secure</h2>
Furthermore, Ecwid’s WordPress shopping cart offers seamless and automatic upgrades, hosted on powerful and secure Amazon EC2 servers for free.
Ecwid is also PCI-DSS Level 1 Service Provider certified, which ensures a robust level of digital security and makes transactions with your payment gateway and bank airtight.
From a personal standpoint, I’m beginning to see Ecwid as one of the most helpful eCommerce solutions on the market. It lets you launch your own retail app, configure taxes in one click, and integrate with WordPress and WordPress.com via a simple plugin.

Ecwid for WordPress: An Easy & Secure Ecommerce Plugin

“I get to build a wiki? Awesome! This is going to be a blast!” – These are not words you would normally here from anyone tasked with such a chore and for good reason.  Up until recently, the process of putting together a wiki or intranet has been a relatively daunting task and while there are certainly good tools on the market to do so, not very many of them are geared towards making the user experience a pleasant one. [pullquote align=”right”]If you've never had a reason to make a wiki, find one just so you can have an opportunity to use this product. It's that good.[/pullquote]This was the case as I saw it, until I discovered Papyrs. Papyrs is the brainchild of Wim Cools &amp; Diederik van Houten and is a unique tool in that it is inexpensive (or free depending on the plan you choose) , incredibly easy to use and offers drag and drop wiki / intranet building. It can be used for a myriad of purposes as well and certainly isn't confined to just wikis and intranets but we'll get into that more later in this Papyrs review.
First, let me show you how the tool looks so you can understand why I'm so excited about this product. First off, you need to sign up for an account, a process that is just as simple as the tool and requires you to enter info into three boxes:
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/papyrs-review-620x294.jpg" alt="papyrs review" />
Once you've completed this, your account is created and you will be directed to your new site:
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/papyrs-review-1-620x431.jpg" alt="papyrs review" />
Once you arrive at your new site, you can immediately get to the fun part, the building! To do this, simply click on the Page drop down and you'll see a number of menu options.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/papyrs-review-2.jpg" alt="papyrs review" />
As you can see, you have a number of actions you can take with the page, ranging from editing to page settings or making a copy of the page to use elsewhere if you so choose. Clicking on Edit Page will allow you to get straight to work and will activate the editing controls.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/papyrs-review-3-620x492.jpg" alt="papyrs review" />
Now that you've chosen to edit, you'll see that each of the available areas within the page where content resides have been activated for you to begin modifying. There are a few things you can do here. First, you can simply click the edit link shown in the screenshot above which will activate the applicable editor (in this case, it would open a window for you to upload or remove the images within this content panel). You can also simply delete the whole thing with the trash can icon. Let's say you want to add a new type of content to this part of the page, doing so simply requires you to drag and drop the applicable widget right into the box from this handy toolbar:
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/papyrs-review-4-620x62.jpg" alt="papyrs review" />
There are plenty of widgets to choose from including ones for discussions, media, even form capture widgets and they are all very easy to setup once you add them to the page. For instance, to add a text box, I simply drag and drop it where I want it and begin entering my text. It's that simple.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/papyrs-review-4-1-620x435.jpg" alt="papyrs review" />
Once you've added the widgets where you wanted them and clicked save, you are ready to go! That's how easy it is. Let's say you want to modify who has access to your page to either modify or view it. That's where the page settings come into play. Click on the Page drop down and then Page Settings and you'll be directed to a page such as this:
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/papyrs-review-5.jpg" alt="papyrs review" />
From here you can modify the title, who has access and which permissions they are granted and you can even invite additional people via email. Perhaps you want to make a copy of your new page so that you can build a new one without re-entering similar content. Simply click on Page-&gt;Copy Page and you're good to go.
Papyrs, of course, has versioning as well and keeps track of all changes to a page so you can quickly revert back to a previous version if you need to.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/papyrs-review-6.jpg" alt="papyrs review" />
To manage your pages, simply click the Pages icon (shown below) and you'll be directed to a list of all pages on your site.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/papyrs-review-7-620x114.jpg" alt="papyrs review" />
Selecting the next icon will show you all activity throughout your site in an easy to read activity stream. You can also use this area to post status updates or add links for your team members.
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/papyrs-review-8-620x414.jpg" alt="papyrs review" />
The final icon, a set of gears, will take you to the settings page for the site. From here you can perform a variety of tasks such as:
<ul>
<li>Setting up your profile:</li>
</ul>
<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/papyrs-review-9-620x784.jpg" alt="papyrs review" />
<ul>
<li>Inviting team members to contribute the site:<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/papyrs-review-invite-620x452.jpg" alt="papyrs review" /></li>
<li>Configuring and choosing a theme:<img src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/papyrs-review-theme-620x639.jpg" alt="papyrs review" /></li>
</ul>
And that ladies and gentlemen is Papyrs.  As I mentioned, this has to be one of the easiest tools I've used in quite some time for wiki building and I had a blast messing around with the interface and adding content. It's not often that I get to say I'm wowed by a new wiki/intranet product but today, I can certainly say that I truly think Papyrs is a brilliant piece of software. I enjoyed the interface, didn't find any bugs to mention and generally had a good time writing this review and sharing my excitement about this new product. If you haven't heard of or tried Papyrs, you should.  It's not just limited to Wikis and Intranets. Papyrs can be used for a number of purposes including: document management, team collaboration networks, contact management and much more.

Papyrs Review - Drag and Drop Wiki Building That's a Blast to Use

If you just heard a loud noise echo across the digital marketplace, it might have been a sonic boom. But don't let your ears fool your eyes: this was a visual explosion, and it has us intrigued.
A few days ago, Milan-based start-up <a href="https://boom.co/" target="_blank">BOOM</a> acquired Berlin-based visual production start-up <a href="https://www.lemonone.com/" target="_blank">LemonOne</a> for an undisclosed sum. Now, that might not ordinarily catch your eye (or your ear), but what got our attention was the growth of a relatively new sub-category: visual asset management (VAM).
Not to be confused with the abundant plethora of TLAs (three-lettered acronyms), VAMs are evolving the <a href="https://www.cmscritic.com/acquia-widens-its-dxp-stack-with-widen-acquires-dam-and-pim-capabilities/">digital asset management (DAM)</a> charter by focusing more deliberately on the role of imagery within an ecosystem. Along with housing files like photography, VAMs go further by offering tools that enhance the management of creative files, brand elements, video components, and more.
VAMs seem to have a number of different applications, but there's a <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/visual-asset-management-what-why-you-need-kevin-bouffard-c-e-t-/" target="_blank">great overview</a> by Kevin Bouffard of 3SixtyEdge about a use case for construction. In it, a VAM provides a more immersive experience for integrating different image assets into a 360-degree tour of a building or property. Very cool stuff.
As you might guess, VAMs are a perfect content management repository for agencies and marketing departments that are developing integrated visual solutions. As such, BOOM's acquisition of LemonOne further expands its content capacity to help creative teams build visual campaigns, organize imagery, collaborate on ideas, and publish visual content anywhere online.
<h2>BOOM makes waves by managing the full visual lifecycle</h2>
Founded by <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/jacopobenedettiai/" target="_blank">Jacopo Benedetti</a>, <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/federicomattiadolci/" target="_blank">Federico Mattia Dolci</a>, and <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/giacomo-grattirola-1b8a58100/" target="_blank">Giacomo Grattirola</a>, BOOM has specialized in visual asset management. The company has raised over $18M in seed, Series A, and Venture funding in the last three years and has grown rapidly since its launch in 2018 – now serving clients in over 80 countries.
The acquisition of LemonOne strengthens BOOM’s presence in Europe, accelerating the delivery of its mission to create a scalable environment that empowers digital companies to effectively manage their full visual content lifecycle – from initial production to final distribution – from anywhere in the world in line with e-commerce growth and increased demand for visual content.

“This is a major leap forward in BOOM’s strategy to serve the whole of Europe and beyond through our ground-breaking digital platform," said Federico Mattia Dolci, CEO of BOOM. "We have been growing our team across Europe and the Americas, and we are now delighted to join forces with the team from LemonOne. They bring fresh energy, passion as well as a wealth of vertical expertise. We look forward to doing great things together!”
<h2>Squeezing the juice from LemonOne</h2>
Founded in 2017, <a href="https://www.lemonone.com/" target="_blank">LemonOne</a> has grown to serve online marketplaces, real estate agencies, and food delivery companies with on-demand, tailor-made visual content for their digital presence.
LemonOne’s clients will join BOOM’s network of customers – which includes major names such as Dolce &amp; Gabbana and Houzz – on the BOOM Worksite, a centralized platform that enables digital enterprises to organize, share, and collaborate on visual assets with internal and third parties.
LemonOne’s team will join BOOM’s workforce to boost service capacity for its growing customer base and enable the company to focus on its technology and product arms as it develops its new SaaS platform, Worksite. Meanwhile, LemonOne’s photographers will join BOOM’s community of visual content creators, enabling BOOM to serve a broader range of customers across mainland Europe.
“BOOM is breaking the ground to develop a revolutionary category leader in the space of visual asset management while LemonOne built a European market leader for digital photo production," said Maximilian Schwahn, Co-Founder at LemonOne. "By joining forces and being able to offer every company a one-stop-shop solution for booking, collaborating, and publishing visuals, we are able to reach our founding vision even faster. Therefore, we are super happy to partner up with BOOM and benefit from each other’s strength to make 1+1=3 for all our customers as well as our community.”

Visual Content Management Platform BOOM Acquires Visual Production Company LemonOne

<a href="http://www.crownpeak.com/">CrownPeak</a>, the Digital Experience and Digital Quality Management platform, has unveiled enhancements for Search G2, its enterprise-grade indexing and query platform, called ‘Realtime Indexing.’
At the same time, CrownPeak also named Dave Gully as COO and Javier Muniz as EVP of Engineering.
<img alt="crownpeak logo" src="https://cmscritic.com/ms-content/uploads/2023/08/large_detail_1432767033.png" />
CrownPeak is a Digital Experience Management platform that’s designed to help enterprise-grade companies successfully manage hundreds of digital experiences across multiple touch-points.
Their re-launch was announced earlier in 2016, when they merged with <a href="https://www.activestandards.com/">ActiveStandards</a>. There's no concrete date as of yet, nor do we know precisely what that re-launch will bring – but it's coming.
<h2>An Update to CrownPeak's Search G2 Feature</h2>
CrownPeak's Search G2 platform, released in 2015, is a highly-scalable, high-performance, enterprise-grade indexing and query platform, that enables rapid searching, sorting &amp; filtering of data across all customer touch-points.
Realtime Indexing enables content managed within the CrownPeak CMS to be delivered immediately to the search platform, upon publication. Further, Realtime Indexing allows time-critical publication of content, easy use of geospatial searching capabilities, as well as searching across protected content that, for security purposes, cannot be deployed to live website.
<a href="https://www.lightmaker.com/">Lightmaker</a>, a key CrownPeak partner, was a beta participate of the search new feature.
Together, CrownPeak and Lightmaker worked with one of the world’s largest investment management firms as well as one of the most prominent energy companies to expedite the publication of content from the cloud-first and purpose built CMS for multi-purpose deployment – a process that is nearly impossible when relying on search crawling to index content.
In the client’s respective industry, the Realtime Indexing enhancement makes time-sensitive information such as press releases, share prices and critical public service announcements like the location of distribution centers and secured areas in the event of natural disasters to be disseminated quickly and accurately to customers.
Further, through use of the only cloud-first DXM platform that features built-in DQM, CrownPeak creates super-fast, multi-site, enterprise deployments that create exceptional, high-quality customer experience moments, across all digital touchpoints.
<h2>“Seamless”</h2>
Following the beta testing, Lightmaker's CCO Ben Philyaw was full of praise for CrownPeak's newest feature:
<blockquote>
“With CrownPeak’s Realtime Indexing, we are able to adapt to our customer's demanding and critically time-sensitive content publication needs.
The Realtime Indexing enhancement, coupled with CrownPeak's easy-to-use CMS platform, provides a seamless content creation, approval and publication process for our customers. This is a unique industry development and we look forward to continuing to partner with CrownPeak to provide our clients with quality and reliable results.”
</blockquote>
